Where to Drink Bombay Sapphire Sparkling Lemon in the Twin Cities | Eater

"Layline, the third and most recent collaboration between Innerbloom Hospitality and Daniel del Prado, emphasizes seafood in its swanky digs near Lake Minnetonka. Sure, you’ve got your grilled chicken sandwich and stalwart cheeseburger, plus entrees sourced from various world cuisines (Hong Kong noodles, Argentinian choripan, and Italian pasta). But the royal move is to order a host of chilled raw oysters and a lobster roll. Soon, through a homegrown delivery service called Tonka Dash, you’ll even be able to get Layline delivered straight to your boat." - Cecilia Johnson

I have been here for dinner when it first opened and I would have rated it a 4. This round i had brunch and it was delicious. The Johnny cake was just as fabulous as it was the first time I had it. We shared the hash browns and they were on point. Seasoned perfectly and super crispy. The Benedict was delicious, the mushroom omelette was yummy, and the breakfast sandwich was reported as delicious. I know there is stuff for dinner I need to try so I'm excited to come back. Love the atmosphere and the service was great!!

Finally made it to Layline! I had wanted to go and try the burger with duck fat fries I had heard so much about. We started with the cocktail of the moment which was a tequila Negroni. Very good! The simple clear presentation with an orange nose meeting you as you raised your glass was wonderful! We ordered the burger as mentioned along with the pok wings which come with the marinated cucumbers. Wings are more like a dry rub than a sauce which I prefer. Flavor is complex. Fully enjoyed these wings. Cucumbers are refreshing. Could use more. Now for the burger... ! Everything I had waited for! Crispy edges with a perfectly done middle. Cheese melts in and bun is soft like a part of the burger not getting in the way. A hint of heat with the peppers. Beautiful! Duck fat fries are good. They are the thin crispy kind. Did they wow me? No, but good. For those who like a thin crispy not quite shoestring, these are great. Personally, I prefer a slightly thicker fry. Again, not a knock, just a preference. I do love how you can come here for cocktails, a casual dinner or more of a formal dinner all in one place. Food is great! Looking forward to my next visit!

This was a very pleasant surprise. On our our stop over to Chanhassan we drove to the quaint town of Excelsior about 8min away and picked this place for dinner and it did not disappoint. We sat at the bar and both our bartenders were very kind and attentive. The cocktails were great and the food was excellent. The johnnycake was the best appetizer if you like a savory/sweet taste. Have to admit I saved half for breakfast 😉

Layline Seafood Restaurant is a real win for the town of Excelsior, MN. We’ve waited a bit to get in on their schedule for a Friday evening dinner, and Daniel Del Prado’s new restaurant did not disappoint. Our table tried the Ahi Tuna Crudo appetizer; it was good (but lacked flavor). I liked the watermelon and grapefruit, but some added fresh watercress would bring a bit of needed zing to it. My main entre of Seared Sea Scallops with roasted butternut squash was superb. The bits of accompanying granny smith apples were a great addition. I often order scallops when dining out – and I’d rate theirs as the best. I already look forward to enjoying it again. The service was excellent; we enjoyed the pleasantness of our well-informed water. The carbonara pasta is good (a lot of pasta) tasting. I recommend the roasted carrots for a side. I had the Forest Floor Martini, as we were told it was very “herbaceous.” However, they could not cut back the vodka and I could barely taste the spruce tips and rosemary, which are excellent flavors together. That was disappointing. For the limited space they have, the conversion from a garage repair shop to a bistro is done really well with a nice bar in the back with seating. The atmosphere is cozy and pleasant. They extended the seating area quite a bit, where it's bumped out in front with seasonal windows all around. The garage doors were up, and it opened between the two seating areas. Limited parking. However, we love the town of Excelsior, and walking a bit is pleasant. Nice sidewalk, with two modern fire pits, and nicely landscaped with new trees and lighting. We don’t mind being charged 5% for kitchen help – we know that good help is hard to get—delightful staff. We are thrilled to have this local seafood dining option. Highly recommended.

I love going out to eat here. The Johnny Cake would be my last meal it’s so good. I have yet to be disappointed when we go here!!

Google
One of my absolute favorite restaurants in all of Minnesota! Their rotating cocktail and food menu ensures an exciting a delicious experience every visit. I truly believe Layline to have the best service in Excelsior and my oh my does it show. We have brought friends here so many times and been here over a half dozen times ourselves. We cannot wait to go back for a seventh. We recommend the Caesar salad, johnnycake Neptune style, and the oysters never miss!

Google
We were able to get a walk in spot on Friday night! Was not sure what to expect, I thought the food may be a bit more seafood, but they had a bit of everything. Nicely done interior. The tuna was really fresh. Was blown away by the pancake caviar app, super fluffy. Would like to come back for brunch! Worth trying!

Google
The food options on the menu looked delicious which made the food selection so hard. Thankfully the staff came to the rescue to guide our decision. The dipping sauces paired well with the meat and fries spectacularly. We shared a pasta and steak 🥩 The restaurant was full of beautiful happy plants. Plants in the middle of winter with great food make a cozy ambience to dine in.

Yelp
Food is unique and killer. Johnny cakes are a staple. Pork chops crushed. And the cocktails are spirit forward in a good way.

Yelp
I've been here a few times but needed to leave a review as this place is truly 5 stars! Always a friendly staff and great upscale ambience for any season, but I think the food has gotten even better in the last year or so! We devoured the marinated cucumbers, tuna crudo, and roasted beats. I got the salmon with rice for dinner and was stuffed! Everyone was satisfied with their meal. I've equally been impressed by their breakfast which I believe is only served on weekends. Give it a shot! Will be back in the fall!

Yelp
does the "walk" count if it's into the restaurant and around the lake to get ice cream after? oh well, @laylinerestaurant brunch was worth it. one of my go-to spots for good eats and vibes. s featured: egg sandwich // bacon, avocado (maybe a little too much for my preference), giardiniera, garlic aioli and American cheese - wishing there was some to heat this up but the bun was perfection. espresso martini hashbrowns // roasted garlic butter, chèvre, chives & parsley - must order whether it's for yourself or to share. french toast // orange, cinnamon, cognac whipped cream & maple syrup - a blend of delicious flavors. the $7 side of sausage I ordered for my pups who refused to eat

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! I have heard nothing but great things about this tiny fine dining restaurant across the street from the Excelsior Brewery. Inside, you escape to an intimate lush atmosphere which sets the stage for a delicious meal. The menu is limited, but don't let that deter you! My two girlfriends and I had a 7:15pm reservation on a Saturday night. When we arrived, it felt like the tail end of the dinner rush. A few more tables were seated after us, but quickly everyone else started to clear out. The bar went from having all their stools full, to all stools available by 8pm! It got a little loud inside but as folks felt, it mellowed out. I enjoyed the mix of bench seating and table seating the tables provided. I love a good cushioned half booth side! We started with the arancini balls which I am still drooling over the next morning after! The red sauce underneath the four balls was the perfect touch to add a little zip. I would 100% recommend getting those to start with for dinner. Then each of us ordered our own pasta but made sure to try each others! I thought portion sizes were fair for the price. The nutmeg addition on the fettuccine was a nice addition to add some rich unique flavor. The carbonara was by far my favorite with the egg and fresh ingredients! The pomodoro was surprisingly spicy, but the burrata helped cut some of that - just be warned! I also enjoyed the espressso no-tini which was a mocktail. It tasted pretty dang close to the real thing and I appreciated the time they took for the presentation of the drink. Lastly, I took the banana cheesecake home to enjoy. I was sad to see how small the portion of it was for the price, but that being said I could only eat half in one sitting! All in all, I had such a lovely evening here with my girlfriends. This is the perfect date spot too! I look forward to bringing my husband back with me for round 2! MUST GETS: Arancini & Carbonara

Yelp
Visited here for a friend's bday dinner and had a mixed experience. Food was delicious but service was rough. It was our first time here so we didn't know that the restaurant is tinier and there is no dedicated free parking (they have a lot but it was $7), so street parking or a different lot is your best bet for a free spot. Once we got to our table, we were informed that we would not have a dedicated server, but instead whoever was available would check on us. In theory this works, but unfortunately we ended up going long periods without being able to place orders when we wanted drinks or dessert just because we couldn't find someone. Management was very receptive to feedback about this though, so hopefully this is fixed for the future! The Eily cocktail was outstanding, if I wasn't driving home I 100% would have ordered a second one. Absolutely incredible cocktail! As for the highlight of the night, the food was absolutely great! The johnnycake is a must-order, it's sweet&salty and fluffy. The grilled half chicken was a surprising standout as well. For pastas, we loved the carbonara, and the gemelli was good too. The butternut squash app I personally loved, it was warm, cozy and cheesy.

Yelp
This was our third visit to Layline and as with the previous visits the food was excellent. We ordered the duck fat fries, a Cesar salad, carbonara, cedar plank grilled salmon for the main meal and the Chocolate Espresso Cake and espressos to finish. The two outstanding dishes were the carbonara (so rich and flavorful) and the duck fat fries (every single one was a crispy salty delight). Service was slower than we've experienced in the past, but we think that was just a one-off, and the noise levels by the windows was very high with patrons voices bouncing back from the glass. We'll definitely visit again.

Yelp
I went here for a birthday dinner with a couple friends and had an ok experience. I had never been here before and didn't realize how small it was! Definitely get a reservation here, it fills up quickly and there's not much waiting space. It's very tropical and airy - seems like a good place for a summer Sunday brunch. I will note that with DDP pulling out, the menu has changed since the past - it's more in line with other Innerbloom restaurants. Not a bad thing, just something we noticed. Our only poor experience here was with service, it was abysmal. We were stuck here for about 2 hours, with other people coming and going around us. We were even warned at the beginning of our visit that we didn't have a set server, just whomever was available behind the bar. It took 15 minutes just to get our first drink order in - we wanted a second round of drinks and dessert and couldn't even get an order in because of poor service. The management team was very receptive of the feedback my friend gave them regarding this! Overall, the food and drink were so delicious, rich and filling - I highly recommend. JOHNNYCAKE - Must order, like a big, fluffy and buttery corn cake! BUTTERNUT SQUASH A LA PLANCHA - If you like a butternut squash, this is for you. Cheesy, buttery and warm. CARBONARA - Star of the show in my opinion! So rich and flavorful, I kept going back for more. GEMELLI VERDE - Very earthy and light, great spring pasta. GRILLED HALF CHICKEN - Incredibly tender, juicy & flavorful. PALOMA GARIBALDI - My favorite paloma I've had in the cities! The foam on top really makes it special.

Yelp
The vibes at Layline were spot on. Their interior decor and service and menu were all aligned and nothing felt out of place. Definitely curated perfectly, which I appreciate! Coming from Indianapolis, we find the food scene in Minneapolis to be next level. Especially the cost to experience/value ratio! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here for my birthday dinner. The atmosphere and vibes are so fun and inviting. They have a cool bar area as well as a 4 seasons patio and a big patio outside. The service was exceptional, great recommendations and always checking in. This is a fun date night area or a fun spot to grab dinner with the girls or couples night out! The watermelon salad is a must! So refreshing. The oysters were probably our least favorite. Didn't have much flavor and were small and expensive compared to most places. Drinks were flowing!! Very unique and tasty! Pasta was great as well as the steak and the fries! Highly recommend the steak with the fries. Was a little surprised they don't do anything for birthdays but overall the service and ambiance was a 10/10!

Yelp
One of the many delightful new restaurants in downtown Excelsior, Layline has charming atmosphere, amazing service and a rotating menu of delicious dishes. Within walking distance of other local haunts, be sure to have Layline on your list.

Yelp
We went for brunch on Sunday and sat at the bar. Initially service a little slow but after that everything was perfect. I had the eggs Benedict, pictured. They made it special with baby asparagus, fantastic ham, perfect tomato and an outstanding hollandaise sauce. My wife had the standard breakfast. The potatoes were perfect. Try the rose versus the mimosas for an extra treat.

Yelp
Came here with a reservation on Monday evening. We had a really great server who was so kind and friendly. I got the cosmojito - a very light and refreshing summery cocktail that is the perfect blend of my favorite drinks. The calamari was nice and fresh and lightly crispy. The linguine was nice and creamy with a kick from the chili oil. I thought the added chicken would have been a part of pasta but was on the side but was super juicy and tender! A very cute place with a cute outdoor seating area which is perfect for this weather. Check it out!

Yelp
I LOVE johnnycakes! Not that I've had them before now, but oh what an ethereal delight! They're lacy crisp on the outside, and so light and airy inside, with just a hint of delicate corn crunch. I could just have johnnycake and call it a night. But we did also get the creamy shrimp fusilli, which was savory and rich. I think the key is that they cook the sauce in plenty of shrimp shells, infusing them with briny deliciousness. The fresh Chilean sea bass was tender, capped with a perfectly crisp brown sear. The pineapples added a nice tart note, and even though I normally don't like endive, these were roasted to a lovely caramelized softness. Next time, I have a better plan. Just johnnycake for brunch, then come back later to try more dinner selections.

Yelp
W really enjoyed sipping wine and slurping oysters al fresco at this lovely Excelsior restaurant!

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere for a Mothers Day brunch. Welcomed into the restaurant with champagne. Seated quickly and orders taken. Salmon omelette was filled with salmon and asparagus, hash brown was delicious. Great staff topped off the experience

Yelp
Every dish we tasted at Layline had a wow factor! Starting with the fried calamari and roasted beets. The former was fresh and crispy, not the least bit rubbery, and came with an addictive Thai dipping sauce. The beet salad was a combustion of flavors with tender beets, pickled blackberries (don't knock it until you try it), and creamy burrata with specks of pistachios. I wouldn't have ever imagined this combination, but it was delectable. Their main dishes were also excellent. I tried their burger which did not disappoint - two smash patties with a juicy center and lacy circumference. Toppings were kept simple with melty cheese, crisp pickles and special sauce. We also ordered a side of duck fat fries - thin cut, salty and piping hot, do not skip! The seafood dishes were fantastic as well. The Chilean Sea Bass was seared to perfection and rivals the best sea bass I've ever had in Fort Meyers Beach, FL. The scallops were large and full of flavor. Our server answered our numerous questions and definitely steered us in the right direction on the seafood dishes. The indoor space has a small bar with ample table seating while the four seasons porch is lovely for any occasion. Excellent food and service with a casual ambiance right by Lake Minnetonka. With the recent closings of Red Sauce Rebellion and Bull and Wren, Layline is a welcome addition to the area!

Yelp
What fun to boat to a restaurant on a cute street and enjoy a fabulous meal. Seriously amazing atmosphere with good food. Service was great. I had the scallops and hubby had pasta carbonara. We had something called a Johnny cake before but I'd eat it for dessert instead! And of course the decor was stunning. I want wallpaper and chairs like that. And the bar looked inviting.

Yelp
We went here for a work meeting. Service was impeccable. Food was good. We had calamari and scallops. They were not the best I have had but really good for Minnesota. The presentation of the food makes you feel you are eating at a 5 star restaurant. This is a great local restaurant and was greatly needed in the area. The ice tea was really good. Better than what you can normally find in Minnesota. I highly recommend making reservations. Plenty of parking near the restaurant.

Yelp
I found Layline on Instagram and I am so happy I checked it out! First of all the parking lot is small so street parking is pretty much what's available. I highly recommend having a reservation since this restaurant was much smaller than I anticipated. As for drinks I got the Cosmojito and it was alright. I wasn't too impressed by it plus I feel like it was mostly filled with ice rather than the drink itself. Next are the appetizers. I truly enjoyed their calamari and it was a huge portion too for an appetizer. Then I tried their Johnny cake and absolutely delicious! As far as entrees I got the Stracci which was absolutely delicious but I could barely finish any of it since the calamari had filled me up. Then my husband got the burger with the fries and the truffled aoili sauce was to die for. I will have to stop by with how cute the ambience and service was!

Yelp
Great new spot to try!! Made a reservation in advance and glad we did as it got quite busy for dinner on a weeknight. Parking was a bit confusing as they have a tiny lot with meters but if you're eating there you don't have to pay (which isn't super clear). Place was cute and good ambiance / sound! Food: -We started with the pancake appetizer which was my absolute favorite of the night (10/10!). It was sweet and salty and all the right flavors. -Next came duck fat fries which were also amazing 10/10. Great flavor and comes with your pick of four sauces. We liked the truffle aioli. -For entrees: -Lobster Roll - came warm and was a hearty portion, no complaints! -Chicken Sandwich - didn't try but was told it was good! Doesn't come with sides so you have to order a La carte. -Pesto pasta - this was my least favorite.. just odd mix of flavors and didn't hit the mark. Was also a bit spicy? We weren't sure if it was too much garlic in the pesto or something else but we didn't like this. -Burger - said this is what they were known for even at a seafood place. Was good! A little similar to a Parlour burger if you are familiar... but not as good. Smashed Pattie's, good cheese and soft bun. My only complaints were 1. There were a lot of flies in the restaurant; we were constantly swatting. Not sure if it was due to doors opening often or something else but it was noticeable. 2. Service in the bar area. We had a table near the bar which was serviced by the bartenders. Our server tried but when the bar was busy we had no service. It took awhile to order food and drinks because of this but the food came out decently quick. Just not a great setup for anyone having the bartenders try to manage tables on top of the bar. Overall was a good visit and would return to try other things!

Yelp
Excelsior wins again! What was an auto repair shop has transformed into a great neighborhood style restaurant with an extra helping of class. A busy but manageable Thursday evening we were seated on the temperature controlled and enclosed patio. The menu offered many options to tempt the taste buds. We decided to split the grilled cabbage Caesar salad, my wife chose the Lobster Roll, and I toyed with the idea of making it two, when she offered to split entrees. I selected the Fusilli pasta with shrimp. The Caesar was fantastic! One of the best I've had recently. Perfectly dressed with a light and flavorful dressing. Glad we split as it really could be an entree. The entrees arrived and we both dove into the lobster roll. It was stuffed beyond the roll with super fresh and sweet lobster. The roll was perfect and the butter and aioli were great accompaniments. I could have easily eaten an additional whole sandwich after my half. The fusilli was good. Since I jumped on the lobster roll I think the fusilli lost some temperature but that was my only concern. Large helping of al dente fusilli and copious amounts of shrimp. The sauce is deceptively light but has a slow heat on the back end. Blistered d tomatoes added a nice pop of acid to the dish. Service was great. Our server was prompt and friendly. She offered great suggestions and demonstrated an understanding of the menu that showed great training and appreciation of the efforts of the kitchen. Definitely would visit again !

Yelp
This is very fun place to dine with a great space and lots of good plates and drinks. A few misses to be sure, but they've only been open a month. And the service staff is really good. The calamari and shrimp appetizer is not to be missed. Not greasy at all and it comes with a mild sauce. Very good. Also, the beet salad with burrata was excellent. The clams with fregola was good, but once the clams are finished, it's pretty boring. The black cod was perfectly cooked. The broth was a little too salty but still really well done. They have a decent cocktail program and a lot of wines by the glass. Definitely worth a return visit.

Yelp
Must try newer restaurant in Excelsior, MN @laylinerestaurant Cute restaurant with great service. 1) CHILLED RAW OYSTERS - accoutrements & choice of mignonette (9/10) 2) TUNA CRUDO - leche de tigre, grapefruit, avocado and chamomile (9.1/10) 3) FRIED CALAMARI & ROCK SHRIMP - Thai dipping sauce (9.2/10) 4) ROASTED BEETS Salad- pickled blackberries, mint, burrata, pistachios (8.5/10) 5) WATERMELON Salad- feta, Calabrian chili, basil, hazelnut (7.5/10) 6) CHILEAN SEA BASS - peach, plum, jalapeno, basil, lime (9/10) 7) STRACCI - roasted mushrooms, taleggio, brown butter and lemon (My wife ordered this, so I cant rate it because I am biased against mushrooms) Overall Food & Vibe 9/10

Yelp
Excelsior needed another fine dining option! This is a *GEM* Atmosphere: bright, on trend, very small interior with a cool bar. Place currently feels expansive with a 3 season porch and large patio, it will be interesting to see how it goes in the dead of winter. The four top tables are too small if there are multiple plates being shared. Drink menu: beautiful stemware, inventive cocktails (forest floor martini so good/interesting) BUT no tequila drink?! Whhhyyyyyy. The Wine menu has interesting choices at all price points, nice choices by the glass. Food: they really know what they are doing with their vegetables. The beets with burrata is out of this world, the side dish of carrots with pistachio is also crazy good. The raw asparagus salad was interesting and fresh; Not my top item but still good. the tuna Crudo was gorgeous and tasted fine, but not super interesting. The oysters were fresh and delicious as one would expect. The linguine was good, but not great, interesting with the mint and ricotta, but the marinara sauce was somewhat bland. Service: a little uneven (to be expected in the first 2 weeks) but very friendly, competent, knowledgeable and hard working. They missed a main course for one of our party & he waited more than 20 min; it should have been rushed through (a pasta) and also comped and it wasn't (we should have asked but just assumed since he didn't get to eat with us). I don't like the mysterious 5% charge added (too low for a tip, what is it for?) Pricing: very fair for portions and flavors Overall: major thumbs up!!!! You can be nicely/ casually dressed all the way up to dressy and fit in.
google avatar

Yelp
Pros: Tasty and well-executed dishes. Great menu with a variety of price points, good cocktail menu and wine list. Overall a very solid dinner. Happy to have a trendy high-end spot in Excelsior! Cons: went on day 2, and personally didn't like the white peach aperol spritz. The aperol overpowered other flavors, and the floral branch of baby's breath felt unwieldy/gimmicky. Neutral: industrial-type design is airy and beautiful but can get noisy during busy times.

Yelp
Loved this place. Food was extremely amazing. The lobster roll was probably the best thing I've ever eaten. The brown butter made it. Great service from Brian (believe the bar manager??). Fun night with a dear friend of mine. Great vibe and decor.

Yelp
Second visit to Lay Line and it did not disappoint. The menu changed a bit but still a number of options. The forest floor martini was SUPER good. So good I had two. The Johnny cake was also good but the butternut squash side was, and I rarely use this word, was orgasmic. I could have had just that and been very happy. But the pasta, hamburger and Hong Kong noodles were all well received. This is my new favorite go to.

Yelp
Cool location, good service, and nice decor. But the food was good but not great. Wonderful patio to hang out on a sunny evening! The menu looked intriguing, maybe we have to go back and try some other dishes.

Yelp
Definitely had high expectations coming in! Friends had been raving about Layline for a while before I was able to try it out and I was excited! Overall, awesome spot. The food is delicious and the vibe is chill but fun/trendy - neither a surprise because of Layline's sister restaurants. Anyway, we kicked off the night with some drinks, which I failed to get photos of, as well as some tequila shots (because WHY NOT). Drinks were fantastic, and just a warning, if you get the forest floor martini (vodka, spruce tips, pinecone bitters, rosemary vermouth), and then take a shot of tequila, you too will be on the floor. I kid, sort of! For starters, we got the Johnny cake, the tuna crudo and some fries. Both the Johnny cake and the fries were good, not incredible, but I loved the tuna curd! The grapefruit gave it a fresh zap of flavor and the jalapeños gave it a little bit of a kick! Yum! Dinner was family style, and we got two pastas (I'm blanking on names because they were summer menu items), the salmon, the scallops and Brussels sprouts. The pastas were great, full flavors. The scallops were awesome - they reminded me a bit of the scallops from Macanda (which makes sense since it's also a Del Prado spot), but I mean, you cannot go wrong with seared scallops! The Brussel sprouts were also delicious and a perfect green pairing with most of the dinner. The biggest disappointment however was the salmon! It was a little dry and just unflavorful, even with the squeeze of lime. For the price, I would expect a perfectly flaky slab of salmon and it just wasn't that! But again, overall it was a fantastic experience and a must try!

Yelp
Ambiance is super cozy... the indoor /outdoor seating area is plenty warm for our winters. Service was great. We went w two kids and he was patient and attentive. Food was kind of meh, ok at best. We ordered a variety of plates: Calamari and rock shrimp- good!! Fried nicely fresh seafood Mussels- good, nice flavor Linguine w the red sauce- kind of bland and the noodles were slightly overcooked Hong Kong noodles - flavorful but these were literally the same linguine noodles in the other pasta. Not expecting authentic but this was a sad pass Sea bass - very crisp and soft on the inside. For some reason it had a fishy taste... I've had a lot of sea bass, it's okay Salmon- nice flavor but a bit overdone Duck fries - the best dish and the two sauces were excellent Potato aligot- rich and yummy Banana ice cream- very delicious Miso pot de creme - very pretty, worth trying once Other than the fries, the rest were ok but nothing that screams, oh I have to come back bc that dish is very unique to this place. I wish I liked it more as we live close and would appreciate some nice restaurants.

Yelp
Everything is great except the food. Food is mid. It's really disappointing because Excelsior has a restaurant problem. The salmon was tough and dried out on the burnt cedar plank. I had a lobster roll that was woefully undersized and cost $25. We had high hopes. Too bad.

Yelp
Back for another shot at this establishment and it's much better on the porch (in December) with no flies Total winners were the burger and scallops (yet again)! Also huge fan of the lobstah roll and Chilean sea bass! Our server was top-notch she knew exactly what drinks to pair with our dinner, and she was super attentive, making sure our water lessons were always full!

Yelp
Small intimate restaurant. Stopped in on a late Sunday night for my husbands birthday. Cocktails are top tier 5/5! Started with fries loved sauce pairings but found the fries way too crispy as they were all crunchy 3/5. Scallops were seared perfect but a bit too much salt added 4/5. Carbonara very creamy and perfect amount of poncetta 4/5

Yelp
I was really excited and had been looking to get in for awhile. When I came I was disappointed by the service and the food. The burger wasn't above average, the fries were crispy but nothing special, the Brussels sprouts were pretty good. We sat in the 4 season patio thing and it was pretty cold and windy - we went back in October on a rainy day.

Yelp
The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The ambiance was quaint. I recommend the Johnnycake. The best. I would come back again.

Yelp
Everything was amazing here. From the food to the service to the location, it was a great experience. Definitely will go back. The Johnny cake was a must order, so delicious. The cheeseburger sounds simple but is so flavorful. The lobster roll with the brown butter aioli is incredible and might be the best lobster roll I've ever had. The sea bass and pasta were also great options to try. The cocktails were super unique and flavorful. Would definitely go back and order everything again! It's a super trendy interior and was pretty filled up when we went during the week for dinner, but it wasn't noticeably loud even with the crowd.

Yelp
What a great new spot! The space is beautiful, love the jungle vibe. The food was delicious. Get the Neptune style for the johnnycake, it's awesome. The pastas are really tasty, we got the Stracci and Fregola. The duck fries were crispy and they come with unique dipping sauces. The mango sticky rice had great flavor and texture. Our server was so nice. The cocktails are very unique, we liked all of them. They accommodated for a stroller and had high chairs for our little one. There are a few parking spots that are free. There is a patio with big umbrellas for the summer as well. Make a reservation now, they are booking out!

Yelp
This is a cute spot! Much smaller than I expected. Definitely make reservations if you plan to eat here. The host greeted me kindly and led me to the table. The server was friendly, answered our questions and gave her recommendations. I ordered the cosmojito, fried calamari and butternut squash. I was also able to taste my friend's brussel sprouts. The cosmojito is a pretty drink that is refreshing. It's sweet and tart without being too much of either. I didn't taste the alcohol at all. That could be a good or bad thing. The calamari comes with green beans and red bell peppers. All fried in the same batter. Or should I say, the beans and peppers came with some calamari. There wasn't much calamari. The batter, while perfectly fried (the right amount of crisp) was bland. The Thai chili sauce was the star of the show. Though I enjoyed it and like sauces in general, I don't like my food to depend on the sauce. It should be a nice compliment. I'm not sure what was on the butternut squash. It didn't do it justice. It had a charred almost burnt flavor and took away from the natural sweetness of the squash. The brussel sprouts were bland and had no distinct flavor.

Yelp
Best hash browns I have ever had in my life. Service was pretty slow but really cute interior and fun menu!

Mighty delicious The saffron broth the came in was outstanding! beet salad is completely different than I've had elsewhere . Absolutely perfectly perfect sear on the freshest scallops nestled in a creamy corn succotash was delish paired with the stracci & mushrooms Can't wait to work my way through the rest of the menu

Yelp
Great atmosphere, but a confusing menu concept. It was eclectic and lacked a theme. I wanted to try the burger, but did not want fries. They refused to sub out for a different side. So, I had the Hong Kong noodles. It was a pile of ramen noodles with peanuts and lime. It was dry with no sauce and flavorless. I would not suggest getting this dish. I did try my fiancée's salmon that was really good, but it was paired a side dish comparable to rice-a-roni.

Yelp
It pains me to leave a review of this low caliber, but I simply have to. The food was BEYOND sub par. Bland, boring and over priced. Porch was freezing cold. They wouldn't move us to the outdoor patio (so we could be in the sun - we had a newborn baby with us who was chilly) even though there were a billion open tables outside. Like why? So rude. Honestly unacceptable. The experience overall was so boring and not special. Vibes were off. I won't be returning and you shouldn't either unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for mediocre scrambled eggs.

Yelp
The restaurant is very pretty inside. As for the food I thought it was nothing special. We came here for our anniversary dinner and we were honestly not too impressed with the service and food. Not sure that I'll be back again.

Yelp
I came in with my husband, and we had a disappointing experience. Our server was not accommodating and kept arguing with me about my order. The prices are high. My husband ordered their burger and liked it. However, they have an unusual service fee that they claim is for the well-being of their employees. This seems odd, especially for such an expensive restaurant. It feels like the management is being greedy, as most other restaurants don't have this kind of fee. Additionally, my husband ordered a rhubarb pie dessert, and it was a very small piece and not good. Overall, it was pretty disappointing.

Yelp
Starting with service: we had Oscar as our waiter. He's fantastic! Very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. He made the experience so much nicer. And the experience itself...atmosphere is very cute, my wife pointed out it's kind of Hai Hai decor. Overall very nouveau. And then the food...we split watermelon salad, Trofie pasta, and Hong Kong noodles. The watermelon salad was the surprise hit. I'm not normally a fan but it was perfectly sweet and salty accented with nuts. Truly wonderful. The Trofie bursts with flavor, very basil forward pesto so you have to be a strong basil fan. We found the Hing Kong noodles to be the next favorite (after the watermelon). It has a complexity of flavors that's very unique (NOT spicy!) and was a joy. We will definitely be back to try the sandwiches next time (saw them at other tables and they looked great).

Yelp
Once again the burbs' get a non-chain that puts out an unchanging lackluster menu, but this is what the typical burb eater wants, apparently. So let's dive in. What's to like? The Johnycakes. Yes, this is the stand-out of the menu and unique enough to give the place half a star (if I could). Get a couple. Better yet, order them for dinner and call it brunch. I would also say the server we had (both times we've been there) was super busy but good despite. The rest of the menu looks interesting but just doesn't quite deliver. (avoid the dry pastas) Unfortunately the wannabe Caribbean wallpaper doesn't prop up the food any more than being stuck in a table in the middle of a loud crowded bar area. The wine selection is so bad they know people will bring their own so they have jacked up the corcage fee higher than any place in the metro. Of course they did, how else will they push warm Pinot's and 100% markups. As I always say, if a place doesn't store their wine at the proper temp it's just Applebees in drag. We ate there twice hoping to give it a chance but won't be back. This is too bad as there are only so many places out on the west side.

Yelp
Breakfast at Layline. I always worry when a newish restaurant adds breakfast as it's usually the sign of a downward spiral. We chose to eat in the somewhat cramped dining room though we could have opted for the more spacious, extremely casual enclosed patio. Adding plants and color would make that space more inviting. Waitstaff was exceptional. A cup of coffee, a cappuccino, French toast, and a standard breakfast of eggs, potatoes, bacon and toast, with taxes and 5% "wellness tax" plus 15% tip came to well over 50 bucks. I'm always a bit resentful when management is too cheap to pay for the employee's healthcare and passes on the cost to the diners. Yes, I admit it, I lower my tip from 20% when I'm paying company costs for "wellness". The food was good, but breakfast anywhere is the biggest rip off there is in the dining world. You pay through the teeth for a couple slices of bread, eggs and potatoes. We get that, but close to sixty bucks is just too much. The ambience is below average here and they can command their price points because it's Excelsior, and there's a distinct lack of breakfast places around. But how long will it last? I fear for the future of this restaurant.

Yelp
Visited their patio on Sunday night with a party of 6. It was great sitting on the corner of the bike path and street to watch the stream of nice cars going by. As they have only been open for a month, we expected service to be spotty, but it was a little worse than we expected unfortunately. They definitely shouldn't be seating every table at the same time only one month in! Two guests were told that they ran out of their order and one had that happen twice! That shows very poor kitchen to server communications. it took forever to get drinks and food, luckily we were enjoying the weather. The Calamari starter was fine, good sauce, but not spectacular. The scallops were also good and the charred corn added a good amount of flavor. The smash burger was probably the winner of the night. We'll be back, but maybe not until the patio seating is closed so there's less risk of an overwhelmed kitchen and wait staff. It's got promise. Not a huge fan of the cocktails as all but the cosmo has some strange element that won't be welcome for the average drinker. (Mushrooms, wormwood, spruce tips, etc.)
