"At the helm of this spacious, light-filled bistro in the heart of Montpellier is Cédric Sangenito, a chef with a seamless CV and a firm grasp of classic techniques. His modern, somewhat inventive cuisine features Japanese barbecue cooking and lacto-fermentation. He highlights good fresh produce, especially seasonal vegetables from market gardeners, to which he devotes a surprise menu at lunchtime and in the evening. The menu is updated every week – although the rum baba, the emblematic dish of the house, is a mainstay (in various guises). A diligent and professional team is at your service." - Michelin Inspector

We dined at Bistro Urbain with out of town friends and we were all very inpressed. I always appreciate a prix fixe menu as the smaller number of dishes allows the kitchen to focus and that was evident here in the presentation and depth of flavors in all the offerings. A first course crayfish with basil and a garden vegetable tartlet with a wasabi jelly were both excellent as were the main course duck with eggplant and mackarel. Desserts were a spot-on Rum Baba and and an apricot dessert with a granola-like crust and Chai Tea ice cream. Wine list is good and fairly priced and their wines are all stored in a two-door Euro-Cave which shows the attention to detail this restaurant takes with everything. Wine pairings were available with each course but we ordered a nice bottle of rosé (of course!) Service was friendly, knowledgable, and efficient.

Superb food that plays seriously with seasonal ingredients to create imaginative and exciting taste combinations. It looks gorgeous too. A 2 choice per course set menu, it was one of the best meals we have eaten in a long while. The excellent, affordable wine recommendation worked well with both octopus and lamb. Vibe was relaxed and unstuffy and the service was charming and helpful. We were the last to leave the restaurant and it will be first on our list when we next return to Montpellier.

The place was surprisingly empty - just a few tables taken around 8 pm but the food was very good, well prepared and reasonably priced. Maybe the main course (swordfish) portion could be a bit more generous…The wine list is solid.

After a recommendation of our hotel receptionist, my girlfriend and I had a delicious dinner here on our last night in Montpellier. A great menu with interesting flavors and textures, and wines to go along with it! The prices were very fair too 👌 I'd add photos of every dish but my phone doesn't do them justice. Best to go and see them for yourself 😌 The host of the restaurant was delightful and made sure everything went smooth. Definitely recommend eating here, would go back myself!

Bistro Urbain was on my list before we arrived in Montpellier and I was not disappointed. There were 4 of us ( 2 couples ) and we did one of the tasting menus - with wine pairings. As there were 2 choices per course we were able to taste the entire menu. I can say that everything that we tasted was amazing. Really an amazing experience and the staff could not have been more charming - we were speaking in French, English and Spanish. A delightful evening.

A nice fine dining experience in Montpellier. The starter was very fresh and light. A good introduction for a meal. The main was a bit more classic but I liked the sourness of the yogurt to balance the meal The dessert was excellent, tasty and creative. A lot was happening in my mouth, in a good way ^^ My only complain is that we had to wait 40 min after finishing the starter and receiving the main. The rest of the service was efficient and the staff kindly apologise for it.
