Méson Chalut

"In his "méson" (which means "house" in Gallo, the language of Upper Brittany), the chef-owner goes all out Breton, showcasing seafood and other regional ingredients (buckwheat, lait ribot (Breton buttermilk), Coco de Paimpol beans, salted butter) that he sources locally. Freshness, flavour and a respect for nature." - Michelin Inspector

Le Chalut provides an excellent dining experience, all local seafood paired with all local vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers. Tastes were all exquisite and well-matched. One note: a reservation apparently is an absolute must, which we found to be a bit of a logistical challenge until our hotel finally was successful in getting in touch. If you’re already in St-Mało a day or two before, easiest may be to stop by and make a reservation in person!

It was all of the Michelin ⭐️ experience that you could want! There was a 3 or 4 course choice menu and optional cocktails and wine pairing. Such a beautiful evening. She explained every course and each was so unique from the area.

What a great spot. So much attention to detail. Only the freshest and in season ingredients. The best seabass I ever had, but that is only one of many dishes, all great!

You don't have to trust other people's verdict on the food because we all have different taste at the time. But just look at the food if you could and it was a feast! The service was great and you also get mini dishes between the dishes that we ordered so it was really almost too much to eat. Don't order a lot if you're not hungry! Will def recommend it to anyone. Enjoy!

We brought a group of 45 Catholic pilgrims to 75th of D-Day and Shrines of France. We stopped in this town for three hours of free time. We chose Le Chalut because it was quaint and out of the way and a good menu. We were not disappointed and I’m convinced French food is the best! The seafood was excellent, the service was exceptional and we loved every minute of it and can’t wait to come back.

Yelp
What a great culinary experience. The staff was lovely and the whole meal was delectable with super complex flavors by far the best meal we had in France.

Yelp
Restaurant le Chalut has one Michelin star and we could see why. Everything was good and the restaurant had a cute atmosphere. My favorite part was actually the trio of complimentary starters that they brought us at the beginning. So good! I also enjoyed the oysters and white fish over mashed cauliflower in a yummy sauce. The soufflés dessert was also good but I thought the appetizers and main dishes were more interesting. We didn't make any reservation and just walked in for lunch. It was pretty empty and we didn't have any issues. Staff were kind but a bit aloof. A solid lunch but nothing super special.

Yelp
Small restaurant located inside the small historical town St Malo. Staffs are nice and very friendly. The soup that come with the complementary appetizer dish is rich and creamy, which gives you a very warm feeling. Foie gras is very smooth and doesn't taste oily, it comes with generous portion of truffles. Fish dishes have great technique because the timing is just right when they are serve. The fish is hot all the way to the centre but not dry. Overall dishes have excellent presentation, they are delicate and very detail. Chef has great cooking technique and the taste is of dishes is well balanced.

Yelp
By far one of the best meals that I've had in France. The service is polite, the food is excellent, and (in my experience, contrary to one of the reviews here) there was NO problem bringing a teenager. I had one of the prix fix menus, and every course was incredible (especially the oysters!). The portion sizes were excellent, and they allow for guests to take their time, while still staying on their toes to follow with new courses. I HIGHLY recommend this place.

Yelp
I do not understand how this place gets any Michelin stars. The wine list is poor, the bread that is thrown at you is stale, and service is rude. Would not advice anyone going out for a gastronomic evening, or a romantic evening, or simply a fun evening to go here. Will not even go into the ambiance of the place.

Yelp
Supposedly one of the best restaurants in Saint-Malo, we didn't even get welcomed properly. In snotty style we were told that the restaurant is fully booked, whilst tables were empty and had no reservation tag on them. When asked whether the in availability of tables today and tomorrow had something to do with our two teenage kids, the answer was less than honest or convincing. The moral: don't bring children and don't do a walk in. We prefer simply never to go there again. All of the other restaurants, creperies, cafes, bakeries in Saint-Malo were friendly, helpful, good and kind ... so why bother with the stuck up "Le Chalut". AVOID
