First dinner on my first trip to Paris and I will never forget the Cotte Roti. This is not a typical French bistro. The staff was very friendly even when we arrived at 7 for what we thought were 7:00 reservations. Turns out they don't start serving until 7:30. No problem, we just walked around the neighborhood then stopped for a quick drink in another place.
The menu is on a chalkboard, so they describe everything to you. They will speak English if you ask nicely. It was a long trip, so I wish I could remember everything I had, but I know my main course was a veal shoulder. So tender and moist and flavorful. The fig dessert was awesome as well.
Its not cheap, but its worth it for a special occasion, like being in Paris!
Make a reservation, its not huge, and you don't want to miss out. If/when I ever get back to Paris, I will return to the Le Cotte Roti
