The Best Restaurants in Sausalito | Eater SF

"This former garage with indoor-outdoor seating is Sausalito with a French accent. It’s a bit of a walk from where the ferry docks are, so you’ll probably work up an appetite finding the place. But once you’re there, you’ll find a panorama of sailboats on Sausalito Bay with French-influenced dishes like croque monsieur, French toast, moules, and pommes frites." - Dianne de Guzman

24 NYC Restaurants Where You’ll Want To Become A Regular - New York - The Infatuation

"Le Garage has a sweet backstory - the restaurant was started by an interior designer and his mom (who used to cook in restaurants in Paris). The result feels simultaneously classy and casual, with French jazz playing on the speakers, a sleek bar, and simple snacks and mains like delicate chickpea fritters and a creamy mushroom ragout with ricotta. Le Garage is one of the best date night restaurants in Bushwick, regardless if you’ve been on two or two hundred dates with your person." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, matt tervooren

Le Garage - Review - Sausalito - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Brunch at Le Garage in Sausalito is always a good time. It looks like the French bistro edition of an industrial warehouse with big roll-up doors facing the docks, red and yellow trim, and Grand Prix posters. Locals who look like they sailed out of an L.L.Bean ad, couples, and families with babies pack the place. The buzzy energy is ideal for devouring rich, buttered, and sauced-up French standards that are a step above average, including salmon eggs benedict, omelets, quiche lorraine, and croque monsieurs. While there’ll certainly be a wait on weekends, just put your name on the list, and then go wander the paths and pick out which boat you’d like to own. photo credit: Melissa Zink" - Lani Conway

Google
Everything was AMAZING. I'm not sure why this place only has 4.4 stars (at the time of writing this), but from the atmosphere to the food and the staff, you can't go wrong. Every flavor is matched beautifully, and the portions were light yet full of flavor. I'd highly recommend going yourself or with a group of friends! *Note, this place was recommended by a French friend 😋

Google
Le Garage in Sausalito continues to be one of the Bay Area’s best hidden gems, even after nearly two decades of excellence. Nestled right on the waterfront, it offers not only picturesque views but also a warm, inviting atmosphere that keeps regulars coming back. The owner and staff treat you like family, remembering your name and favorite dish, creating an experience that feels both special and familiar. On my most recent visit, I had the grilled chicken sandwich — and it was absolutely divine. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and tender, paired with fresh, quality ingredients that elevated a simple sandwich into something memorable. Whether you’re a local or visiting for the first time, Le Garage is a place that quietly impresses every time. It’s the kind of spot you almost want to keep to yourself, but it’s just too good not to share.

Google
Modern French menu choices. A few more options would move it to a 5 star for me. Our waitress happened to be flighty and the busser took my plate while i was still chewing. The other staff seemed solid. I'll update when I visit next.

Bruno created an atmosphere that captures a warm, cozy french bistro! The space is beautiful and the food is delicious! Service is excellent and everyone is so kind :)

This is a great spot in Sausalito. Servers were very attentive, and food was well made and fresh. Great ambiance and views. Highly recommend the eggs Benedict and mussels.

Google
The food was really amazing. Loved bouillabaisse, it was delicious and the portion size was good as well. The salmon was beautifully cooked and the parsnip puree was delicious. We went for brunch only to realize that brunch is only served in weekends. Definitely a good visit.

Google
Good food. Eat there and don't order take-out. On Sunday lunch time, they offer take-out without a system for it. They don't check that your entire order is in the bag (our egg dish was missing eggs!), the one front person doesn't know when the order is ready for you, and they don't check in with you when there are delays so you're waiting and definitely in the way of people checking in for their tables.

Google
Sitting at the corner of the restaurant with the view of sale boats, it really feels like sitting at the European harbor. Super relaxing. Sunset is amazing here. Because this is the only restaurant here, it is super quiet. Food is excellent and deserts are delicious! It’s a great place to spend some slow time to dine.

Yelp
This is a great spot by the water for authentic French food. We visited on a holiday weekend without a reservation, and luckily the staff was very accommodating and made room for us. Service was exceptional. We ordered the escargots, brioche croque madame, bouillabaisse, moules marinière, and frites. There was a bit of a wait for food due to the kitchen's capacity, but the wait was worth it. Everything was delicious! This was the best French food I've had since my last trip to France. The vibes were also very French. In fact, I heard more French being spoken than English here.

Yelp
Le Garage is a favorite of mine where I've eaten at a few times. I recently visited and was a bit disappointed. My friend and I have made it our annual pre-christmas brunch spot. I always order the eggs Benedict and a coffee. This year we shared the French toast as a dessert in addition to the Benedicts. First of all, we were seated in the outside covered area but there were tables inside that appeared empty. ‍ Our server felt rushed and kept checking on us. She felt a bit abrasive, too. Like she was over her job and had a forced smile. Maybe she was having a bad day. I was still able to enjoy my friend's company! I think the most disappointing aspect was the food. It seems like the quality and portions have gone down. I remember the Benedict being fresher and tastier, as well, the French toast looked significantly smaller. The location is cute! You can't beat bay side, on a pier, with parking. I really hope this was a fluke and that it's not a sign of the restaurant declining or going out of business. That would be sad.

Yelp
Today we went to The garage for the 5th time for a Christmas lunch. The more I go the less it's good. The menu was really poor. I ordered the salade frisée that is not such a hard thing to make in my opinion but the lardon (bacon) was dry and hard with just a few little pieces in it, the crouton were stale and the dressing wasn't good. My son had the steak with eggs as well as his friend and the piece were small. For $34.00 i think they could do better anyhow, i was dissapointed

Yelp
A overdue review! When we came on the weekend there as a bit of a wait but it was well worth it ! We needed something flight and hearty and this did not disappoint . Egg Benedict was on point !

Yelp
Great bistro by the water! We arrived shortly after opening on Saturday and were seated immediately. We chose the covered outdoor seating. It can get chilly so bring your jacket. There's also plenty of indoor seating. The burger was delicious and the shoestring fries were great with the aioli. The pain perdu was so soft and yummy; fantastic french toast with berry compote. The croque madame was great as well with a nice side salad. I love bread and all the bread from these dishes were stuff my face good. There's a dedicated valet parking lot for $5. The surrounding parking spots are all permit parking until you get to the bridgeway.

Yelp
Definitely been here before and had really liked it. This time I wasn't as happy. I was visiting with an old beau who is in the food industry and we were definitely taking our time. The food wasn't bad. It was pretty good: mussels and frites, sautéed green beans and a burger. I guess what struck me as incorrect was that as we were finishing our lunch the server was nowhere to be found, and none of the other servers would actually meet our attention. They just kept walking by us not looking and no one came to tell us that our server was off the floor , I think that's poor service. If you're going on your break, tell your table, introduce the other server that's going to help them. Instead, we were sitting there trying to find somebody for some more water or some more napkins; our check. And everyone else that wasn't our server, seemed to be put out by us asking for attention.

Yelp
Had a great experience eating here as a family! We called about 2 hours prior to arrival and made a reservation for lunch. We were seated fairly quickly. - Food was delicious- we tried a variety including breakfast Crepe, duck confit, mussels, etc. - Nice location next to the water and inside an industrial garage for the vibes - Although the place was busy, we received decent service from the owner. - Down side was having to pay for parking

Yelp
A little pricey but solid delicious food. Cute restraunt, friendly staff. The eggs were cooked so good!

Yelp
Great brunch spot with good menu options. Definitely the best bang for your buck is the burger - it's huge and comes with a ton of fries. I got the mussels with fries which were also good. Others in my group had the salmon crepe which they enjoyed. My only issue is that you can only valet park on the weekend here and the lot is small so you'll have to wait to valet park.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good but lacked a bit of seasoning. We asked for their spicy sauce and made it a thousand times better!! The service was amazing and it was nice sitting outside. Great views!!

Yelp
I used to visit Le Garage a lot when I was in Marin County. It's been quite a while since I move to Sonoma County. This visit was the best yet. First of all the restaurant was all open with great access to the boats and the Bay. Having no walls made it much easier to hear each other talk. I started with a glass of Sancerre Pinot Noir. Mmmmm... Then half a dozen oysters, and share one. Ooooh... Then shared half the escargot. Ahhhhh.... Then had a rare rib eye steak with frite. Smile... And shared two different desserts. Nap time... A walk to the car and an easy drive home. But I have to say the highlight of the meal was our server, Lavelle. It's so nice to have someone with great people skills AND deep knowledge of each item on the menu and the ingredients. Wonderful ambience and view with good food and great service. It doesn't get any better than this!

Yelp
I came by to have lunch here with my family last July and had a mediocre experience. There wasn't a lot of parking available around. It was very busy when we came by for lunch and we waited over an hour. The restaurant is nearby a marina and small beach, the area is cute and picturesque. Since we waited over an hour which was longer than our initial estimate, the host/possible manager who was taking names down told us we'd get our drinks on the house which was really nice of them to offer. I ordered the sandwich au poulet (chicken breast, basil goat cheese, piquillo peppers, butter lettuce, artichoke pesto, ciabatta bun, kennebec fries for $19) and a mimosa. The chicken in the sandwich was dry and my sandwich mostly tasted like goat cheese. The ciabatta bun was light and crisp. The fries were generously portioned but I asked for a side of aioli to dip them in since they were plain. My mimosa was perfectly fine. When the check came, we were charged for our drinks despite being told they'd be on the house. Our waitress went to check with the man who took our names down/offered the comped drinks. She told us he claimed he hadn't said that and we must have misheard him, but they did comp a glass of champagne. Our waitress did her best to handle the situation nicely even though it wasn't her fault. Overall, I wouldn't return and haven't since then. The vibes are nice but the food didn't warrant the long wait. The incident with our drinks also put a bad taste in my mouth.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service on the water! Glad there's now parking for customers. Haven't been ages and will be back soon!

Yelp
Beautiful location on the water for a casual lunch. I bought my friend who was visiting from NYC to Le Garage after reading reviews & seeing pictures of it's pretty & serene location overlooking the boat marina. We started our meal with light beverages (my friend had an Aperol Spritz & I had a mimosa) and mussels with pommes frites. The mussels were perfectly cooked & the white wine sauce was light & delicate & was also good for dipping the fries. For our main meal, I had the Brioche Croque Madam & my friend had the Pain Bagnat. My sandwich was perfect & the light side salad was a nice, healthy option. My friend said that her sandwich was very good. We skipped dessert because we were too full. Service was friendly & helpful, checked in on us often. They have a private parking lot which is very convenient.

Yelp
We've been wanting to eat here for a while. I'm so glad we finally did! Now, it will have to be in our rotation for sure! Very busy place, so prepare. The atmosphere is so very cool! See pics. Their food is really good! Servers are a bit overwhelmed, but aim to please! It has a nice vibe, good food & we recommend coming here. My family will be coming back soon to have their mussels!

Yelp
Great little Salsalito spot at the marina close to a little beach Sunday brunch:-) be careful where you park, we parked in Permit spot and while we didn't get towed, we did get a bright green sticker on our window, they have valet parking FYI
google avatar

Dave R.

Yelp
Food was fine, though not worth what we paid, nor worth the long wait. Roasted potatoes were soggy, and the Benedict was lacking flavor. Pastries seemed good. Service was incredibly slow. Also, the parking situation is pretty ridiculous. There is only valet parking, and one poor guy was scrambling to meet the demand. We had to wait quite a while just to hand him our keys. Luckily, we happened to get there early, otherwise we might have lost our reservation just waiting for the valet. All in all, not a pleasant brunch experience.
google avatar

Becca H.

Yelp
This spot was pretty good! They had a bunch of fun brunch French items on the menu. I love having a salad with the breakfast items. I thought the food overall was decent. The service was good and was in a great location.
google avatar

Cindy N.

Yelp
This is a beautiful restaurant for a fun Sunday brunch! I loved that it was right by the water and you got the view of the docked boats. The food was all exceptional - we ordered the grass fed burger and smoked salmon Benedict which we devoured lol I also ordered a glass of Bellini which was refreshing and perfect for the sunny day we had. I definitely want to come back! A great brunch spot in Sausalito

Mike S.

Yelp
As usual, great food. The Moules marinières with fries are fantastique! Love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
The mussels were amazing especially with their Sauvignon Blanc. Crayons for kids and right on the water with heat lamps.

Yelp
Key Points: - beautiful view - delicious food - first time having chickpea fries Came here for brunch during the Little One's Birthday weekend. The place had a beautiful view by the water. Though we sat inside because it was cold. Our server was funny, polite, and attentive. Plus he wore a mechanic-like uniform. Trying to stay true to a garage theme? The Goods: - Chickpea fries. Must try it. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Not quite a "French fry" texture, but still delicious - Quiche Lorraine. Flaky crust. Soft savory center. Only wished it was a bit bigger. - croque madame. Added $2 for the egg. Can't have have breakfast/brunch without an egg dish! The coffee wasn't all that special to me. They have espresso drinks, so the coffee was actually an americano. Definitely not a specialty single origin pour over, if you're into that. Still, it gets your caffeine fix in. Definitely a must try in this city. We'll come again and sit outside when it's warmer.

Yelp
A bit torn on this one. Some aspects were great, others not, but rounding down since our brunch came out to be $$$. Unless you have a parking permit, you basically have to do valet parking ($5 + tip). We arrived late around 2 PM, but we still had to wait a good 15 minutes or so for the valet since there is only one guy working the lot by himself. Host was funny and pleasant, and our server was great. We got an outdoor, dog friendly table, and the server was really sweet with our dog and got our dog a water bowl (though it was a bit dirty, but oh well). I loved my Omelette au Canard Confit, which I got without goat cheese. The duck was divine, but the roasted potatoes that came with it was unbearable to me, drenched in butter or something. My husband liked the side of frites maison and the mixed greens that came with his dish, but not the Croque Madame itself. So many other reviewers seem to recommend the Croque Madame or Monsieur, but his bread was really tough and didn't taste great together; maybe he had a bad one. Even though we weren't checked in on that frequently since they got really busy, we got our food quickly, which is what matters! Too bad not all the food was equally as good...

Laura L.

Yelp
Be aware that valet is the only option for parking. While the attendant was sweet. impatient parkers were yelling and blowing their horns. It's not the restaurant's fault, they're not responsible for their customers being a$$holes. Location is lovely, right on the water amid the marina boats. Service is a little tepid, but may be because they didn't expect much of a tip from a table of two women (especially if the usual clientele are the honking broads trying to park). Food was good, but the menu was small and they were out of two things my friend wanted. I still gave a good tip. Try it, and if you enjoy it, go back. Good rule of thumb for any place.

Yelp
Very different , very strange ... very french Some of the food was great , other stuff not so much. Our waiter was very good and so was their wine. I will comeback here and try their other dishes.

John F.

Yelp
My wife and I had the soup of the day and the Salad Nicoise. No drinks , just water. Bill was $100.56. In my humble opinion it is WAY over priced. Yes it is in Sausalito, next to the water. But not worth that amount to me. Next time I will continue looking for some place Where I might get a better value. The service was fine. We were there before other customers and the food was delivered fairly quickly. The soup and salad were very good. $100.56 for two soups and two salads.

Yelp
Le Garage in Sausalito is awesome, and my recent experience deserves nothing less than a solid five stars! The vibes at this French spot are top-notch - think casual chic with a side of laid-back charm. Now, let's talk about the star of the show - the Le Garage Burger. Oh boy, where do I even begin? The beef patty was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful, while the brioche bun was a crispy, golden delight. The toppings were a symphony of taste, and the secret sauce? Well, let's just say it's not so secret anymore - it's downright addictive. The ambiance is just what you need for a chill hangout. It's the kind of place where you can savor your burger while soaking in the waterfront views. Trust me; it's Instagram-worthy! The service was spot-on - friendly without being overbearing. The staff knew their menu inside out and had some fantastic recommendations. Le Garage has successfully blended French culinary finesse with a laid-back California vibe. Whether you're a foodie or just looking for a great meal, this place hits all the right notes. My taste buds are still doing a happy dance, and I can't wait to go back for another round of burger bliss. Le Garage, you've earned a loyal fan!

Moira H.

Yelp
Always a great experience at Le Garage! Food, service, ambiance and views. Love this place!

Courtney W.

Yelp
The food was so good with such a nice menu. There was a nice variety, and it was executed perfectly. The staff was very attentive and friendly The restaurant was overall and super cosy. Can't recommend it enough, will definitely be back!!
google avatar

HY W.

Yelp
Took the recommendation of a friend to try the bouillabaise... excellent, and perfectly cooked. The sauce was so good that I used a spoon to scoop up every last drop! And the chocolates fondant amazing, that every last bit was scraped off the plate. The view of the boats was also very pleasant.
google avatar

Joc V.

Yelp
I know I like a place when during the meal, I Google the recipe of the food I'm eating so I can figure out how I can recreate it at home. That was the case for the Crispy Panisse, garlicky chickpea fries that were so much better than their potato cousins, again proving that the French know what's up when it comes to good food. We had the burger and fried chicken sandwich and both were done well. I know that sounds boring for a French bistro but Le Garage serves some simple but well executed food. I thoroughly enjoyed the Kir Royal, sparkling wine with raspberry cassis. It was the perfect drink to have while sitting outside enjoying the view of boats docked on the marina.

Yelp
My party of 6 was able to get a table as a walk-in on a Wednesday afternoon. It is located at a lovely boatyard. Parking is more heavily regulated over the summer. Overpriced for average food. Just FYI, the portions are not meant to share. The best item we had was the beignets de morue. Everything else was not memorable and I would not recommend ordering: pain bagnat (first time having raw tuna in a sandwich), oysters (so tiny and the plain sauce did not make up for their size), bouillabaisse, bavette (a bit salty), frites maison (nothing special)...Service was decent. Wish we had the same experience as others have mentioned.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
We took our moms here for an early Mothers' day brunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We arrived almost an hour early and the host was thoughtful enough to try to seat us in a timely manner. Overall, the portions were generous, especially the mussels which were delicious and paired with some fries. The french toast made with brioche, topped with berry compote and creme fraiche was well balanced and not too sweet. Depending on your preference, the bellini was a little too strong for my taste, but that's probably a plus for others :) It was a good meal with a great view. In addition, I appreciate the convenient and super friendly valet service available.
google avatar

Aldouse H.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service. located in a tucked away marina is this one heck of a gem restaurant. staff is awesome and the food is delish. the mussels are a hit and awesome value. you get a ton of mussels to enjoy for what they charge without all the extra fillers. the croque madame is very flavorful and i love the egg. the kids fish and chips is amazing too!

Dominique C.

Yelp
Amazing location closed to the boat and great Ambiance Super Friendly and professional Team Maya was incredible The food is excellent and the wines too Easy to park If you want to relax and to have a lovely brunch , lunch or dinner to not hesitate to stop here A GEM

Yelp
You have to pay for parking, valet only. Location and good were great, not a big menu. And the chef came around to the tables during our visit, over all good.

Eric V.

Yelp
Not sure what happened to an old favorite. The place was empty and the food was clearly not what it used to be. A complete change soce the last time I visited. New " chef "??
google avatar

Natalya S.

Yelp
The food was pretty decent, tasted homemade but I felt like the eggs benedict could have a tad more flavor. The potatoes were amazing though. Service was fairly quick and the view was quite nice. You HAVE to pay $5 for valet parking if you drive there.

Yelp
Decided on Le Garaje as our lunch spot while visiting Sausalito for the day. It's tucked away in a nice location by the water, with plenty of heaters outside to keep you warm. As we were walking there, the streets were empty, so when we reached the restaurant, we were surprised to see it packed with people. Despite this, we were seated instantly inside. I would recommend making a reservation or calling ahead though if you have a larger group. I went with the jambon sandwich as I wanted something a little more filling. It was delicious but definitely heavy. The bread was moist and soaked with oil. The fries were also freshly fried and very hot and crispy. I saw that tables around us ordered mussels which came in a huge delicious looking portion. Would definitely order those next time if I were to revisit. Service was efficient and prices were quite fair considering the location. Note: I don't think they allow dogs inside.

Oxner J.

Yelp
What an amazing place , excellent French food , just like home ,the staff was very attentive and the ambiance couldn't be any better on a summer day.Did I mention it's a dog friendly place! Thank you for everything and see you soon

Bob S.

Yelp
Service from Lavalle was non-existant. He finally took my order after 20 minutes and I never saw him again. (even though he was floating around the room) My before meal drink, didn't arrive until after the meal, and if I had wanted another drink, (I did) good luck. He was not to be found. Now, they offer online check out so you don't even need to see your server again - telling! Food - good, although the great frites are gone, Service- a zero, and Ambiance - unsupportable. I think my days at the Garage are over. To make matters worse, the garage which is normally noisy, was deafening since they had a large group/party which was not separated from the rest of the tables. Guys, if you're gonna have a separate party, you have to make it PRIVATE. You couldn't hear yourself think.

James M.

Yelp
We arrived just at opening time for lunch . We were looking forward to try the French brunch dishes of Croque Monsieur / Madame but this is a weekend menu item only unfortunately . However , what we ordered instead was delicious ... fresh moules frites in a delicious broth , a wonderful steak tartare , and their spring salad . The service was quick, efficient and never felt rushed by the staff. It is located by the Sausalito harbor and the outdoorsy atmosphere lent to the ambiance . We look forward to coming back for the brunch weekend menu sometime and we highly recommend giving this cute French spot a visit !

Yelp
A must stop by in Sausalito! Fresh seafood + a beautiful view of the sunset and water. We ordered the P.E.I. MUSSELS MARINIÈRE, which was recommended to us by the waiter! It was mussels with white wine, garlic, shallots, and parsley. Really delicious!! We've been craving mussels for so long and wish we could bottle up the sauce and bring it back with us We also ordered the BOUILLABAISSE: a stew of cod, scallops, mussel, clams, prawns, potatoes, and rouille crouton. It was good, and great to dip the bread in!
google avatar

Ally W.

Yelp
Le Garage is one of my favorite brunch places in Sausalito. It's away from the touristy areas of downtown, but still on a pretty marina. The food is fantastic. It really reminds of me of having brunch or lunch in a cafe in France. My favorites: * Oeufs Bénédicte au Saumon fumée (smoked salmon, tarragon hollandaise, English muffin, and roasted potatoes) * Sandwich au Jambon Roti (ham leg, fourme d'ambert, pears, watercress, and pomegranate butter) * Canard Confit (duck leg confit, rosemary garlic potatoes, and maple gastrique) * Panisse (garlic rosemary chickpea fries, fleur de sel, and harissa aïoli) The portions are generous. The host and waitstaff are attentive. The ambiance is relaxing. Merci beaucoup et on se revoit bientôt!
google avatar

Raul C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed what Le garage had to offer: the brunch menu had options and were so delicious. Especially if you love shellfish. The oysters were fresh and the mussels were a highlight. Beautiful views of the harbour and is also dog friendly!
google avatar

Angelene E.

Yelp
The atmosphere was gorgeous and the view was splendid. My only complaint is that the food is overpriced for the taste. Waitress was very helpful with giving us recommendations though! Croque Monsieur was very dry.
google avatar

Timothy T.

Yelp
Nice little restaurant by the water. Prices are reasonable. The food is good but nothing too special. Soup of the day (lobster bisque): this was yummy during a cold winter day. Especially since we were seated outside. Mussels: very fresh and flavorful. The wine sauce was delicious to dip bread and fries in. Croque madame: this was just ok. I wouldn't order again. Cheesy with very little ham. Burger: medium rare cooked perfectly. Really juicy throughout and the fries had a great crisp. Since we were seated outside, service was a little slow. The heater lamp also wasn't working too well so we were still cold.

Tom A.

Yelp
Excellent food, service, and ambiance. Will be back again and again. The view is unique.

Yelp
Great portions. Great view. Good Service. The Pain Perdu was delicious, but the Croque Madame and Galette Saumon Fume were a bit dull in flavor.
