Le Grand Café - Review - 8th Arr. - Paris - The Infatuation

"Where are the beautiful people going for lunch and dinner in Paris these days? To the freshly renovated Grand Palais’s Grand Café, a brasserie designed by star architect Joseph Dirand with lots of marble, velvet, and beveled mirrors, sky-high ceilings, and 300 seats inside and on a leafy terrace with views of the Petit Palais across the street. The place is objectively massive, which makes it easy to pack in the local fashion set and the corporate types in well-fitted suits at lunch. By night, the crowd skews toward local and foreign jet-setters who are thrilled to have an excuse to get dressed up." - Lindsey Tramuta

Where to Eat in Paris in 2025

"Set within the newly reopened Grand Palais, this grand restaurant pairs a spectacular terrace perched on original mosaic floors and soaring columns with an opulent dining room of marble, mirrors, and velvet; live jazz elevates evenings. The menu ranges from salads to seafood platters, and the drinks program benefits from the presence of famed bartender Colin Field behind the bar." - Mary Winston Nicklin

"In the shade of the century-old plane trees on the terrace, or beneath the high exposed timber ceiling of this stunning 18C manor house, chef Mathias Dandine serves cuisine that is both traditional and generous, in keeping with the bistro decor. The short, appetising menu features dishes beautifully made with fresh produce, leaving diners with some difficult decisions! Pâté en croûte with shallot condiment; Iberian loin of pork with fregola sarda risotto; apple tarte fine with vanilla ice cream. A flawless and truly delicious culinary offering and relaxed but professional service." - Michelin Inspector

Truly one of the magical places to have dinner at christmas time. Walking in you have the gorgeous bar and lead mixologist on hand ready with the recommended cocktail for the evening. Then you head into the main dining room adorned with a Christmas tree and Christmas’s decor and a live jazz singer and band. Max was my server and he was so wonderful, patient, professional and kind. Made my experience one of a kind and tailored to top tier French hospitality. Will definitely be back in the warmer months to sit out on the terrace. Merci!

We dined at Le Grand Cafe during our visit to Art Basel Paris taken place in Grand Palais. Le Grand Cafe is chic, stylish, stunning restaurant. We’ve had an amazing lunch. First, while we were waiting for our table to be ready, a mixologist prepared delicious mocktails for us, we just asked him to create something fruity and fresh, both were creative, fresh and tasty. We were witted at a nice sofa table. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, personnel were attentive, with a great sense of humour and warm welcoming attitude. Thank you! We will be back.

My husband and I had a our best dining experience at Le Grand Cafe in Paris! The food was delicious! I loved the tomato tart and lamb chops. We sat on the terrace which is stunning and magical. There was a singing with a 3 piece band. Their song choices were perfect and she was divine. They took an already perfect night over the top. We sat in the bar after dinner to enjoy their performance. This is a magical restaurant and I can't wait to go back!

Beautiful restaurant & staff is super friendly and kind. The resto itself is so beautifully decorated, it is a pleasure to dine there. My favorite dish was the cucumber and feta salad, their french fries are also delicious, and especially the millesfeuilles!

The most amazing experience ever, here its not just about food which was amazing by the way , their tomato tartte was unbelievable , but also the atmosphere, the views and the service was to another level, we went to so many places in Paris but here was the only place we felt welcomed and cared for. You could just sit there and enjoy the amazing views, their drinks were also great. I can not recommend this place enough. If I ever come back to Paris this place is one of the main reasons.

Very well executed and tasty food in a beautiful setting. I must admit I was amazed by the quality of the meal. It is not cheap that’s fair but you get a very delicious meal in the newly renovated Grand Palais. Firstly, we were served yummy bread (2 types) with salted butter and also some radishes. What a great idea to start the meal. Then we had for starters the Comte and truffle soufflé and the girolles and poached eggs. Both were delicious. The sauce which came with the mushrooms/egg was absolutely delicious. For main, we both had steak with pepper sauce. The meat was cooked to perfection and the pepper sauce was very nice, it could be richer but still it was a lovely pepper sauce. We had fries and green beans for sides both portion were generous and very tasty. Finally, we had for dessert the chocolate tart which was just so delicious. A must try for chocolate lovers! And we had also the chouquettes filled with chantilly which was served with a rich chocolate sauce on the side. The cream was not overpowering and the dish was very well balanced. Overall, I was expected a restaurant where I would be able to enjoy the grand palais setting and have an average meal. I was wrong. The whole experience was great : setting, service and food. A must try while in Paris for an authentic and special meal.

🍽️ Food: The food was excellent — we loved everything we ordered and the quality was spot on. Unfortunately, the kitchen forgot our salad and one of the mains, and we weren’t able to flag it as our waitstaff was quite busy. By the time we could, the lunch seating time was nearly up. 🧑‍🍳 Service: Our waitstaff was very sweet and welcoming. Although she was clearly stretched, she stayed kind and had a genuine smile throughout and even let us order dessert close to the end of our seating time, which we really appreciated. 🌿 Atmosphere: Charming and pleasant vibe, though the 1.5-hour seating limit for lunch felt a bit rushed. 📌 Note on dress code & reservations: We had seen some reviews mentioning strict or selective entry, but we saw several guests in casual wear with backpacks being let in without issue — it seems as long as you have a reservation, you’re good. Overall, a great spot with amazing food — we’d happily come back, hopefully with more time to enjoy it fully.

Le Grand Café at the Grand Palais might just be the most beautiful restaurant in Paris today. The interiors are stunning, but the terrace — with its breathtaking view of the Petit Palais — is truly unforgettable. And yes, the food lives up to the setting. Classic French brasserie cuisine executed to the highest standards. A must-do for anyone looking to experience timeless Paris with style and substance.
