Montreal’s Best Chinese Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"Henan food is the main draw here, with braised meats, soups, classic Chinese salads like shredded potato and wood ear mushrooms with coriander, and their take on Sichuan fūqīfèipiàn, cold beef tongue and heart with chilis. Lotus Bleu boasts seven varieties of noodles, including some hand-pulled and others dried. Don’t miss the fragrant DaoKo herbal roasted chicken, a Henan specialty." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

The Best Dim Sum Restaurants in Montreal - Eater Montreal

"Perched high atop the Swatow building on lower St-Laurent, Imperial serves dim sum with a view right across to Montreal’s beautiful City Hall — that’s if you can take your eyes off the kindly ladies purveying the metal carts laden with Imperial’s signature square dim sum steamers. It’s worth the wait for Imperial’s deep-fried squid and the har gow steamed shrimp dumplings: the thin, translucent rice flour wrappings are always the measure of a well-made morsel. Imperial’s lotus leaf with sticky rice (lo mai gai), snug parcels with tiny bits of meat and vegetables nestled inside, are another item to seek out. A range of quality teas is also available here; ask for Tie Guan Yin black tea as a complement to the small plates." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

Google
If you want hand pulled noodles in excellent broth, dumplings, and no lines to navigate this is the place to go. Even better than the shop a couple doors down. Both the lamb and beef soups were so so good. Owner recommended their northern style chicken, very flavorful. Dumplings were also tasty.

Google
It's a tight spot, tables are close together. Noodles were good, not exceptional but good. Dim sum wasn't great either. The service was fast but they needed to be reminded stuff all the time. Overall, I liked the experience, and I plan to come back. I would recommend this place, but there are other better spots in China town. 3.4/5

Google
i had been craving xiaolongbao for eons and these were amazing, only thing is i wish there were more soup inside because it was so yum. the spicy minced pork soup with the handmade thick noodles were amazing. the spice level was great, it wasn’t too hot but it was enough to taste. the seasoning on the pork was divine along with the broth!absolutely delicious and the staff were so kind!! highly recommend :)

Paul Chan

Google
If you want authentic handmade noodle. Taste Better than the one right next to it. The beef noodle taste really good.

Google
Really delicious and authentic Chinese food. The restaurant may be less known but it's a must try! The owners are very kind too! And yes their Daoko Herbal roasted chicken is so unique and very tasty!

Google
Delicious authentic Chinese food. We had hand-made noodles with lamb and beef. Also, we ordered fried dumplings, daoko chicken, etc. Overall, the food was tasty and highly recommended. The service and the atmosphere were excellent.

Google
The food was delicious - I had the lamb noodle soup and it was very good. Hand made noodles were chewy and held together nicely. The service was prompt, very polite and attentive.

Google
I would definitely recommend this place to everyone who’s looking for hand-made noodles with lamb or beef. I ordered their classic lamb noodles, added some chili oil and vinegar, and this delicacy treated me well! As someone who spent 16 years in China, I can guarantee that this noodles place is worth your try!

Yelp
Have to say, some of the best Chinese fare we have had in a long time! Restaurant is understaffed so dinner took a while to get to us, I saw that happening at other tables also. You know what? IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! We had a hand pulled noodle soup, cucumber salad, another noodle dish with spicy pork and hand made beef dumplings that were pan fried. EVERYTHING WAS STELLAR! The photo does not do the food justice! Do not pass on this place! Humbly submitted, Moi

Yelp
Yummmmmm! We had a group of 13, the owners were so nice and were able to accommodate us in her little restaurant. We just landed in Montreal so we were tired and hungry! Our favorite were the dumplings. The noodle soups were fantastic as well.

Yelp
Food was good and authentic but service was HORRIBLE! Credit card machine down. Didn't tell us until it was time to pay. Charged more than the exchange rate so we paid $25 more than would should've! Never eating here again!

Yelp
Was looking for both noodles and dumplings and stumbled upon lotus bleu when the line next door to another restaurant was way too long. Lotus Bleu was serene, delicious, and a taste of home. I went for the waitresses suggestion of La pi and it was my favorite dish, especially for a summer day. We got the lamb noodles and shrimp, chive, pork dumplings. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Once the food arrived, it was delicious and plentiful. It was also fun to see noodles being hand-pulled to order. However, we had a difficult time getting our server's attention to order and then it took a good while for our food to be served. Fortunately, we arrived a little early before the restaurant filled, but it made me wonder how long the others would have to wait. This appears to be a family-run establishment, which I always want to win, so I hope they get a little more help to serve.

Yelp
Great! Went to this place cause the place next door had a line out the door. So we tried this place out and it was great! We tried the noodle soups and dumplings. Two thumbs up from the whole fam of 6. Portions are well sized and flavor/texture of the hand pulled noodles was better than what we are able to get in NyC. We just got to Montreal yesterday and have eaten here twice already!

Ryan C.

Yelp
overall this restaurant is very good. i've been here twice now and had the Jiajiang mian and beef noodle soup. Both times i was very satisfied with the service and the food. you also get to customize your noodle thickness which is cool. the broth of the beef noodle soup is especially very good!

Yelp
Overall: Lovely spot for hand-pulled noodles in Montreal's Chinatown! Lots of tables, fast service. We had a very heartwarming conversation with the restaurant manager. Value: 10/10. One 'small' bowl of noodles is around $12 CAD ($9 USD)!! The portion is generous; definitely enough for one person. Taste: 10/10. The noodles feel handmade and are flavorful on their own; I got the width 6 which was perfect as a fan of wider/thicker noodles. The broth is delicious (as is the tea! so cozy for a Montreal night). Yelp
Ma recommandation #1 dans le quartier chinois. Je recommande vivement la savoureuse soupe à l'agneau!

Yelp
Interesting place, with very good noodles. They take credit cards. We got the cucumber salad (very refreshing), potato salad (the strips of potato have the crisp, raw consistency of bamboo shoots, with a bit of pepper oil on them), steamed shrimp and pork dumplings, the house lamb noodles, and the chicken cutlet noodles. The noodles and dumpling wrappers are substantial. My wife didn't care for her chicken, as it turned out to be dark meat, but I liked my lamb. The service wasn't very good. We were seated right away, but it seemed like a half hour before our order was taken. They didn't seem well organized. Food came quickly once ordered.

Yelp
Amazing hand pull noodles with great texture and soup base. Every dish we ordered had amazing flavor. We had appetizers 1) wood ears 2) cucumbers and 3) pigs ears. Ordered the hand pull noodles with beef, ja Jia noodles, dumplings and their famous chicken. Definitely recommend!!

Yelp
Service was pleasant and the food was delicious . Their soup is not bad nor was it salty. Do you want to wait in line, if not try this place. We ordered pig ears and dumplings as well as their noodle soups. They had chicken katsu noodle soup. they have more selection than next door you don't have to wait an hour in the rain or snow. This place, their seating is not as close together and crowded like next door. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed and there are many items on the menu to try.

Yelp
Probably the only restaurant in Montreal serving steamed noodles. So glad to find it. Not the most tasty one I have had but I know how much time it takes to make steam noodles if they make them the original way. So they are still decent. Especially if you have never tried! A safe choice is their soup noodles, all hand made. A little bit oily but good overall. Recommend!

Yelp
It's hard to please every member of my family of 6, but this place was an immediate fave! We had dinner here last night and again for lunch today because we're still dreaming about the noodles. Texture is perfect! M2 is a crowd fave (with size 4 noodles, or size 6 if you prefer wider noodles), and I really like the ban mian with spicy ground pork and crusted peanuts. The dumplings are handmade in-house and we love the pan fried pork and chives dumplings. As for size, my teenage boys can eat a large bowl along with a dozen or so dumplings, and probably XL size if they don't eat dumplings as well. If we lived locally, we'd be frequent customers of this delicious restaurant!

Yelp
I went to eat here last week with my mum. I had pan-fried dumplings and spring rolls. It was really tasty. It's pretty good location if you want something fast and the ambiance is very warm. I would come back to eat here with my friends the next time I'm in town. The services were pretty fast and I wanted to try everything on the menu, although I find some are pretty pricey for me. But I will come back for such great services and try their lamb soup...I find it pretty muggy to have lamb bowl which I had heard it's really good and the waitress recommended that I should try it!

Yelp
This place is so underrated. I am kind of frustrated that if you search "noodles" in Google from a bit further away, this place doesn't even show up so so many people are missing out on this wonderful place. We originally planned to go to the place next door which is Lanzhou noodle. It is this one waitress trying to do cashier, serving, wiping tables and seating customers. Literally impossible. I left after waiting 15 mins and could barely get a table. This place is the complete opposite. The service is phenomenal. The lady is super attentive (pouring water, get takeout box, get extra bowls all by observing) and recommends good dishes. The food is also so good. Henan and Xi'An and Lanzhou are all next to each other in China. Henan noodle is with the Lanzhou like soup base and Xi'An like noodles which are more thick and like blankets. The difference is in the hot sauce. The Henan ones are slightly darker and tastes a bit more like peppercorn. Different but good. A lot of people who are not from China only know Lanzhou and Xian noodles but actually Hunan noodles are just as good and just super underrated. You are missing out if you come here instead of the surprisingly super highly overrated next door spot and you got to try a Chinese regional cuisine which is a lot more unique and harder to find in North America.

Yelp
Came to the area and we were gonna try a different place but the wait was long so came here and glad we did!! The food was outstanding. Service was great!! Staff very friendly. I pretty much devoured everything that was set in front of me. Many options. My boyfriend is vegetarian and the menu was ver accommodating. As we left more people kept strolling in. The restaurant itself is very intimate. Can easily accommodate big parties too. The bowls were offered in different sizes to accommodate all appetites.

Mike C.

Yelp
The thick noodles at this place is the best noodles I have had in my life. I do not make this statement lightly. I have eaten at many noodle restaurants in Chinatown in Los Angeles, but this gem in Montreal, Canada is the best. If you like Chinese noodles, then don't miss this one when you are in Montreal.

Yelp
Simple Henan chinese cuisine that's tasty and inexpensive. I decided to check it out because the nearby noodle soup spot was packed. They do serve pretty similar dishes. The seating was comfortable and service was good. We got the lamb noodle soup, and the wontons in chicken soup. The soups are mild and comforting, I would definitely come back in the winter. One issue is they don't have air conditioning, so when you're drinking hot soup in the hot summer it may not be so fun. Do check it out soon because the turnover of restaurants in this certain spot is really fast.

Yelp
Idk WHY the line at Noilles de Lanzhou is so long when Lotus Bleu is CLEARLY the superior noodle restaurant oh my goodness this food was delicious. They KNOW how to do noodles here - the hand pulled noodles are so chewy and the soup is so flavorful. I'm not usually a big fan of Liang Pi (cold skin noodles) but it was the BEST Liang Pi I've ever had oh my gosh. Dumplings were pretty good too. In summary COME EAT HERE!! I feel like it should so much more busy here given the quality of food!!

Yelp
Like other reviewers, we intended to go to the hand-pulled noodles place almost next door, but there was a line at the other place and we were hungry. I think we got lucky. The server/owner? explained everything on the menu and we opted to hand-pulled noodles with spicy chicken and tofu, cucumber salad and steamed pork/shrimp dumplings. Everything was fresh and delicious. Service is very police, but no frills with paper napkins. The atmosphere was very relaxed with some background opera. I'm sure a far cry from the hectic neighboring noodle house.

Danielle B.

Yelp
Fresh. Spicy. Delicious. The steamed dumplings and crispy wontons were the best. Definitely recommend!

Cindy S.

Yelp
Amazing Amazing Chinese Food in Montreal. We will be back!! Fried potstickers and home made chile sauce were outstanding!! People from Arizona

Yelp
This was some of the best food I've ever eaten. Everything we ordered was amazing. The prices are very reasonable and the service great. I wish I lived close enough to come every day!

Yelp
We loved this random find in Montreal's Chinatown! The noodles were delicious and perfectly textured, and the appetizers were wonderful as well. It's a lot less crowded than the noodle place next door and does not require a wait - a great hidden gem. Highly recommend.

A L.

Yelp
As other have stated, this place is severely underrated. We originally intended to go to Nouilles de Lan Zhou a few doors down. But, that place has peanuts in everything, which wouldn't work for our kids who are anaphylactic. So glad we landed on Lotus Bleu. The food is delicious and the server was extremely sweet and efficient. We advised her of the peanut allergy and she literally triple checked everything with the cook. We had zero issues. The place is also comfy and spacious to sit in. Our order: -Lamb noodles -Pork and chive dumplings -1/2 herb roasted chicken (stating the obvious, but these are Chinese herbs, not oregano, thyme or typical western/European aromas). We are not from Montreal. But, will surely stop by whenever we are in town.

Yelp
Came after the government lockdown so had to order for takeout and we were sitting there waiting 45 mins for our food but it ended up tasting phenomenal. The flavor is authentic and up to par with New York's Flushing and Chinatown. I liked the wonton soup a lot.
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure about the 5 star reviews but this place is not ready for prime time. Waited 15 mins to be approached to get seated. Had to call waitress so they can get our order. The place is 50% capacity. Ordered noodle soup with braised beef, fungus salad and braised beef appetizer. Wait staff came back 10 mins after order to say they run out of braised beef. But they have some for the appetizer. Go figure. Replaced soup with chicken and mushrooms, taste very underwhelming. Fungus salad lack acid. Braised beef app okay. Placed is dirty. I regretted spending a meal here when there are better options in Chinatown.

Lila M.

Yelp
Delicious Lamb Noodle (#6) soup! Husband had the combo #1 dumping soup, broccoli salad and dumplings. Everything was DELICIOUS. The hand pulled noodle were amazing and the soup broth was good too.

Dylan M.

Yelp
Super yummy. Dumplings, noodle soup. Everything. Service was good too. Went two days in a row. Crowds both times. Would go again.

Suzane L.

Yelp
The food and service was excellent! I highly recommend visiting this place! The cuisine is from Henan province and they hand make their noodles!

Andnifinand M.

Yelp
They have super delicious noodles that come in different sizes. I like No 5 or 6, the wide noodles. They also specialize in dumplings, salad dishes and rice noodles. The noodle soup is very fresh. They deserve all the customers that lined up for Lanzhou, which I tried before and didn't like the noodle soup that much.

Al S.

Yelp
We ordered a lot of difference noodle, rice and appetizer dishes and they were all good. The place was short staff but very friendly.

William W.

Yelp
This was hands down one of the best noodle eating experiences I had in a LONG time: huge portions, fresh ingredients, and the price is so reasonable considering everything is made by hand (noodles and dumplings). We had braised beef, noodles and broth with Shanghai bok choy. Fantastic meal for a cool spring day in Montreal!

Elsa G.

Yelp
The broth lacks a lot of flavour and so does the braised beef. I had high expectations and am disappointed. The broth tastes like chicken stock from a carton at a grocery store.
