Oh it was a lovely sunny day.
Nearly two years into a global pandemic. Upon showing up, I clearly told the woman seating people that I was waiting for my friend.
"No problem!"
Here I am thinking, "oh nyc, I know you have such a bad reputation but I've lived here so long. Maybe you're making a comeback." Maybe people finally realized they don't have to be pretentious assholes.
Maybe not.
I am finishing my iced coffee (that I ordered at the restaurant) and drinking my water on this hot sunny september day. I never use my phone at restaurants but I called my mom to tell her how nice it was to be out again when out of nowhere, a waiter abruptly comes over, interrupts me and says frustratedly that I was holding the table during their busy hour and that if my friend didn't come soon, I would have to leave.
(Insert my very shocked and disappointed though not surprised internal response.)
I explained firmly how I was seated under very clear pretenses that my friend was not there yet and when I waved the alleged friendly host over to ask why this was happening, after i explained that I would be waiting, she said, "ah, but your friend still isn't here and that was a long time ago."
It had been 30 minutes and as I pointed out, there were about 5 open tables. I was drinking coffee that I ordered.
I said in my tone, "wow. Well, thank you for being so sweet about it and if I wasn't waiting for someone, I would leave right now. You really know how to make people feel good during these tough times."
Suffice to say they rushed us and I only ate because my friend was eating and I didn't want her to feel uncomfortable.
I never review but shame on you- you don't deserve my money after this year of struggle and you are why I am moving from nyc.
You should be thanking your customers for still coming to you during a global pandemic when so many better restaurants have had to shut down.
Food was whatever. It's another $15.00 omelette in nyc.
Thank you for reminding me how done I am with this place.
