"Le Poêlon d'or: It's hard to say whether or not the chef does actually use a golden saucepan (the restaurant's name translated), but they definitely have a secret weapon. The food is tasty and perfectly put together, from the gâteau de foie de volaille (chicken liver) with tomato coulis to the pike quenelle gratin with béchamel sauce." - Sophie Friedman

Booked here well in advance of our trip to assure accommodation during our time in Lyon. We were well-pleased that our hotel staff highly recommended Le Poelon d’Or for a traditional Lyonnaise meal. We were not disappointed. Service was good; do expect the feel of “organized chaos” but truly there was symphony to the movement and flow of the entire team. The tables are tight. The spirit is lively. Food is hot and delicious. The team is efficient and cordial. Thank you for a spirited, delicious evening.

I booked here as the good Bouchon restaurants are always busy, I saw a review on youtube and really wanted to try the Boudin Noir, however the very nice waitress explained that they only have this on the menu in the ”winter” October-March so I settled for something else. Very nice, ok prices, and great atmosphere. So remember, book a table and if visiting for a specific dish, ask of it is on the menu.

Best meal we had in 3 days in Lyon. Loved the beef & morel sauce, the lyonnaise salad and the boudin noir. Also very friendly service.

Friendly staff, amazing food and speedy service. What more can I say…. This is a must when you visit Lyon. The steak was cooked to perfection… one of the best I’ve ever had. The first time trying the quenelle as well… would definitely recommend. For starters the foie gras and the chicken liver dish was a hit for us. This is a very popular restaurant with locals and tourists alike, so I would recommend making a reservation at least one week in advance so you don’t miss out.

Unique restaurant in the old town of Lyon. Kind of an insider hint when visiting Lyon. The brochette was very good, generally were all the tipical Lionaise dishes. The planch cochon was a bit disappointing, everything else was quite alright. Waiters were attentive and responsive, friendly as well. Great address when looking for authentic food in Lyon.

Highly recommend the 1. Herring entree; 2. Lentil salad; 3.Lyonnaise salad. The bacon was delicious (but there was sand in the lettuce - informed the waiter and he acknowledged that the chef will rewash) but did not offer compensation. We didn’t eat the lettuce but the rest was cleared. Main dish - Quenelle of pike with shellfish. It was tasty but not much shellfish seen. Crowded and feel a bit rushed but the waiter was very friendly.

We shared 3 starters for lunch and a glass of wine each. The server accommodated our poor French with good humour. The food was excellent and well presented. Highly recommended for traditional Lyonnaise cuisine.

The food was quite good. I like the lyonnaise salad and the fried Brie. It’s a pity I didn’t order the popular gâteau de foie de volaille or the pike quenelle. If I had another chance I would definitely try those two.
