Lyon is Taking Over as France's Global Gastronomy Capital

"Le Poêlon d'or: It's hard to say whether or not the chef does actually use a golden saucepan (the restaurant's name translated), but they definitely have a secret weapon. The food is tasty and perfectly put together, from the gâteau de foie de volaille (chicken liver) with tomato coulis to the pike quenelle gratin with béchamel sauce." - Sophie Friedman

Should reserve in advance. We made a reservation for 9:15 and had to wait a little to enter the saloon, but some of the main dishes (Quenelle) were already finished for the night… Good food, awesome atmosphere! 82€ for 2 main dishes, 2 starters and 2 glasses of wine.

This was our first visit to Lyon, and we feel incredibly lucky to have discovered Le Poêlon d’Or. From the moment we arrived, the warmth of the welcome made us feel right at home. The waitress was wonderfully kind and, despite our limited French, greeted us in perfect, friendly English. The food was absolutely outstanding—every dish bursting with flavor and showcasing the heart of Lyon’s cuisine!!!Thank you for your attentive hospitality and for sharing such passion through your cooking. We can’t wait to return on our next trip❤️🫂

Did a walk-in dinner here tonight and it was surprisingly excellent. Not surprisingly in that. I didn't expect the food to be good, but I didn't expect it to be this good. I had the roasted pork with green pepper sauce and it was amazing. My wife had the mushroom ravioli and a cream sauce. Equally amazing. We can started the dinner with the foie gras which was delightful and the bread is incredible. Service is outstanding. If I had one complaint, it's that it's a little bit warm inside the restaurant. 9/10 would absolutely eat here again..

Booked here well in advance of our trip to assure accommodation during our time in Lyon. We were well-pleased that our hotel staff highly recommended Le Poelon d’Or for a traditional Lyonnaise meal. We were not disappointed. Service was good; do expect the feel of “organized chaos” but truly there was symphony to the movement and flow of the entire team. The tables are tight. The spirit is lively. Food is hot and delicious. The team is efficient and cordial. Thank you for a spirited, delicious evening.

At the end of our trip, we decided to try traditional French cuisine, and Le Poêlon d’Or turned out to be a great choice. The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere, elegant decor, and very friendly service. The flavors were authentic and true to classic French cooking. Although some dishes were unfamiliar to us, we enjoyed every bite with curiosity and pleasure.

Yelp
Great place to get some Lyonnaise cuisine. They provided an English translated menu, service was friendly and very responsive. This is one of the best meals I have had in France. I had the veal kidneys, fish dumplings(quenelles), and chicken liver cake (gateau de volaille). I thought they were all great dishes that I would order again, but some of these dishes might be too authentic for some. The lavender creme brulee was probably the best creme brulee I have ever had. The panna cotta was also very good.

Yelp
Fantastic. We made a last minute reservation on a Tuesday night. When we showed up, the place was packed and they were turning customers away... Our table was still occupied so they couldn't seat us immediately. The manager suggested we have a drink at the bar across the street while we waited for our table and said he would come get us when the table was ready. True to his word he came to the little bar about 20 minutes later and said our table was being cleared, so we could finish our drinks and make our way over at our leisure. When we returned, we were seated immediately. Our servers were extremely friendly and as a bonus they spoke excellent English. The meal was outstanding. My wife had the Lyonaisse salad followed by the andouille sausage with potatoes au gratin. I had the best ravioli I've ever tasted. We shared a bottle of regional wine and had the desert of the day, a homemade ice cream with meringue, Fresh whipped cream and chocolate sauce. We lingered over dinner and drinks for a couple of hours... And at one point our server brought us delicious limoncello on the house. The dinner was a highlight of our trip and I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Yelp
My mate and I came here for dinner while in Lyon. Given its popularity, we called to make a reservation. I called several times in the afternoon, but the call went directly to voicemail; they began answering the phone about 90 minutes before opening, and they were able to save a table. We arrived right at opening time, and the place began filling up quickly (there was only a handful of unreserved tables left). I ordered the €26.50 Menu Lyonnais, starting with the salade niçoise. I'll be honest: this was one of the best salads I've had in my life. The lettuce was crispy, the croutons were freshly baked, the bacon was cut thick and salted just right (and still warm), and the egg complemented everything. My only complaint about the salad is that I've never seen it served near where I live, and so I'll have to fly to Lyon to get another one. For the main course, the beef was done perfectly with a nice sauce and side of potatoes. For dessert, we were allowed to choose anything from the dessert menu (with a small upcharge if we picked any of the items costing €7+). I chose the praline pie, which was a beautiful shade of reddish velvet and had just the right texture. It was a wonderful ending to the meal. I waddled back to the metro station afterwards full and very satisfied. It's rare that I remember more about the salad and dessert than the main course, but that's what happened at this restaurant. I'll definitely come back here when I'm in Lyon again.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Don't agree with any of the complaints at all. Staff is very friendly, the food is super authentic and amazing! Everything we had on the menu was very good. This place would cost double in the US.... we felt like it was a bargain... nice, but not super fancy.

Yelp
Classic Bouchon Lyonnaise. Be sure to book a table ahead of time. The ladies went with the menu Mere (can you ever go wrong with Mom's cooking?) and it did not disappoint. Foie Gras atop Fond Artichou followed by quenelles with a bechuemel sauce. Wine list had some nice years in stock and we enjoyed a Mercurey 1st Cru 2012. I had a salad Lyonnaise and andouille with a mustard sauce. Desserts are not to be missed. The women working the bar and tables were all witty and hard working. A good time was had by all. All so good on a chill winters night. A short walk from Place Bellecour. Excuse my spelling.

Yelp
Recommended by my hosts in Lyon as a good place to try Lyonnaise cuisine. Very nice and helpful staff. Food was excellent, and wine was also good. A little expensive, but worth the price.

Yelp
Le Poelon d'Or is a wonderful bouchon. Great food, vibrant and fun staff, and relaxed environment. We arrived later in the day and we were hungry. They slid us in at 2:15pm without so much as a sigh of disgruntlement (which we experience often, as we'd be a bit late or early for the proper eating times in France). These people were joyous and fun, served us great food without any rush and just entirely took stellar care of us. The food was hearty and yummy. The baked and then pealed potatoes made me swoon. Do try this place. You'll enjoy the environment, company and meal.
