Le Vacherin

"With its polished wood flooring, part-mirrored walls and belle époque pictures, this smart, vintage-style brasserie brings a little bit of France to London. Authentic French dishes are prepared with obvious care. The fixed price menu is great value and the chateaubriand to share is a popular choice." - Michelin Inspector

A lovely French fine dining experience with great food overall. It’s on the pricier side, but the quality and flavors make it worth it. The lamb was a standout—super tender and cooked to perfection. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. A great spot for anyone looking to enjoy a refined dining experience, though it comes at a premium!

One of the Best French Restaurants in West London. Close to Chiswick Park Station. Fine dining restaurant with excellent food & drinks, and excellent service, all details are perfect. Super friendly, and professional staffs, and don't judge anyone by his/her looks (even though we don't dress properly for a fine dining restaurant). Better to reserve a table in advance. Toilets are clean and tidy.

Google
made a booking for a dinner at 8:00 we arrived the restaurant and waited for a bit then being welcomed by the staff. the restaurant was not busy and the server of our table is friendly, gentleman and polite The food came fairly quick and we enjoyed a lot with some background classy music roasted duck and stonefish are brilliant. We ordered a glass of pinot noir and chardonnay, perhaps they were ordered by glass, balanced and smooth but lack of character. But the sparkling (also by glass) was nice. a bit pricey but definitely worth it, will come back again

We’ve lived just down the road from Le Vacherin for years but never thought it was really our kind of place: how wrong were we. We went for our 10-year anniversary and had such a brilliant evening. The Prix Fixe menu was great value for the quality, and the food was spot on: really well cooked and full of flavour. We added a few extras (oysters, sides, and some extra bread because the anchovy butter that came with it was just so good), and everything was fantastic. Service was friendly and quick, and they made us feel really special with personalised dessert plates. So glad we finally gave it a go—it was perfect for a big occasion and didn’t set us back nearly as much as we expected.

Le Vacherin is a beautiful and elegant restaurant that offers an exceptional experience. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the refined atmosphere. The service was equally outstanding; Claire, our waitress, was pleasant, polite, and very accommodating, making us feel welcome throughout the meal. For the main course, I ordered the Longhorn beef, which was cooked to perfection and came off the bone effortlessly. I have always wanted to try escargot and I was definitely not disappointed it became another highlight of the meal—delicious and full of flavor. To start, I had the soup, which was rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious. For desert, Frangipani tart had a lovely crunch base with Mascarpone. Overall, my experience at Le Vacherin was fantastic, and I will most definitely return. This French restaurant has quickly become my favorite, and I look forward to bringing my friends to share in this wonderful dining experience.

Used a Groupon voucher and paid the £10 surcharge to dine in on a Friday night. Once other diners arrived (we were the first ones there at 7pm!) the atmosphere was nice. Staff were attentive and kind. Food was generally good, twice baked cheese soufflé was worth the surcharge. Groupon came with one glass of Prosecco each. We paid the surcharge for the ‘bread basket’ which consisted of four little baguette slices and anchovy butter which wasn’t to our taste - the server kindly brought us some ordinary salted butter. Portion sizes of our dishes were fairly reasonable. A nice evening out in Chiswick. There were still a few additional charges but generally we paid what we expected to.

We had pumpkin tortellini for appetiser and chateaubriand for main to share. The beef was top notched quality. I enjoyed the main a lot. The service was excellent (except from one server that wasn’t great). Great atmosphere. Plenty of parking spaces in the residential area after 6 pm or a short walk from Chiswick Park station. Highly recommended.

We had a great night. There are quirks as well as gems in this place, but it’s all character and we really enjoyed it. We went for the ‘Opentable’ set menu through The Fork which advertised: “This preset menu includes: Amuse-bouche du jour + Les hors d'ceuvres + Les plats princjpaux + Made for sharing + Side dishes + Bread basket + Pre dessert de la maison + Les desserts and drinks.” You may be forgiven for thinking that all of the above would be ‘included’ for the set price of £45, but yes that would be far to good to be true. Included in the price is 5 courses; Amuse-bouche du jour, Hors d’œuvres, Plats Principaux, 1 bread basket (2 small slices of baguette each with plentiful anchovy butter), Pre desert de La maison, Le deserts, and one glass of Cremant each. All of the sides carry an extra charge, as do all of the ‘Made for sharing’ dishes… Also if you need more than two small slices of baguette each, you’ll need to pay extra. Thankfully when we asked our waitress to explain the ambiguous pricing, she happily obliged. We stuck to the 5 actually included courses with one additional side between us and we did not go home hungry… although a little more bread in the basket would have felt less stingy, and hugely useful for soaking up every last delicious drop of our Amuse-bouche; the most amazingly tasty cup full of mushroom soup. The anchovy butter accompanying the bread transported me to the fishing harbours of Boulogne. There was far more butter than our four baguette slices could take, so we kept the remains on the table just in case, and it was useful. For my hors d’œuvre I ordered the Yellowfin tuna tartare, avocado purée, tomato & basil concassé with sesame wafer. It was fresh and uplifting to begin with, but by the third spoonful I was missing something. The tuna and the avocado needed a little more acid. Neither the tomato nor the basil were quite enough to give it the punch it needed. Maybe some capers would have done it. As nice as it was to eat, it was just… ‘nice’. I did finish it and I didn’t complain because it was good quality food, and very healthy too, but it was bland. There was also a 20min wait for food when we arrived so I was pretty hungry. I was treated by my dining partner to a taste of her Twice-baked St. Maure de Touraine cheese soufflé, with beetroot sorbet which was out of this world. It was the comfort we were looking for on a cold winter evening. I was considering requesting it in place of my desert and had major food envy. Well worth the supplement! Next were the principaux as well as the side of ‘sautéed spinach’ to share. Both mains were perfectly cooked. The spinach however didn’t appear to be sautéed. It appeared more wilted. Obviously this was not a dealbreaker by any means and it is where our saved anchovy butter came in handy. I went for the Selection of Artisanal cheeses, red onion chutney & cheese biscuits, 4pcs. When only three pieces of cheese arrived, I did ask for the fourth as advertised, and any extra if they were feeling generous. I received five pieces which felt more appropriate for the £9.50 supplement. Unfortunately neither my partner nor I could agree with the red onion chutney. She likened it to cigarette ash. It reminded me of the liquid in my waste food caddy, not that we consume either very often.. We chose not to offend the cheeses with it and left well alone. I rationed the five Carrs water biscuits to last as long as possible across my now five pieces of cheese. The service was warm and friendly, and the restaurant busier than expected. It was a little unusual to not wait at the counter by the door to be seated, but having read previous reviews mentioning this, we knew to seek the assistance of the busy floor staff, who found us a table right away. Would be go back? Yes please! (If they’ll still have us)…

Yelp
Bistrot set up, suitable for couples and friends. Went there after a day at Kew Gardens. Love the decor and food was delicious. Quite a busy restaurant so will definitely recommend booking ahead. We started with escargot and the mackerel ceviche. Mains were rump steak and coq au vin (chicken was succulently tender). Dessert were apple tart and rhubarb crumble. Service: 9/10 Food: 8/10 Ambience: 8/10 5 course meal with a glass of Cremant was definitely value for money! It was the standard 3 course with an amuse bouche and pre-dessert.

Yelp
A top quality and impressive French restaurant to fit in with an ever growing list of good places to eat. Very French is design, in the food it produces, the wine that it sells and the staff that work there. With many good reviews and awards with a highly acclaimed chef, this is one of the best places to eat in Chiswick and might even give some of the more famous restaurants a go for there money ? Chef Malcolm John says that they use organic produce wherever possible and only source the very best meat and fish. They have regular gala evenings where they showcase seasonal produce and it is normally a fixed piece for the evening and is normally accompanied by a wine tasting session also. Service can be a little pushed at times but with a great wine list I was certainly not in a rush and the wait for my steak was well worth it.

Yelp
I like this place, a lot! I haven't been as often as I'd like, mainly due to the fact it is quite a pricey restaurant and in spite of what people may say, you certainly can get too much of a good thing, so don't want to put myself in that position with this place ;) The service is excellent, the decor is classy, the food is amazing and classically French and they have a pretty decent wine list to boot. It never seems overcrowded here which to be honest, when i have been there, is a good thing as it keeps the noise levels down but I really hope this doesn't mean they aren't getting the footfall they deserve. This place is slightly off the beaten track but well worth that trek (hardly a trek, just sounded like a good word to round off that review...) Oh, and if you fancy 'slumming it' a little after your fine food, I can thoroughly recommend popping for a nightcap or two at The Duke of Sussex just next door - great pub

Yelp
I had a most delighful experience at Le Vacherin on Friday evening with my fiance. I would highly recommend the cheese platter, as it is a delightul and quirky starter. She loved her creme bruele and I absoltely loved my steak, which was cooked to perfection. Even if it was a bit pricey, I would say its damn worth the price. Except, when I left and bid them farwell there was dog poop that was outside their restuarant that I found that extremly sickening that when I got home and vomited my food. Two stars.

Yelp
I really hope this place makes it because I went here on a voucher deal and I was impressed. It was kinda empty at lunch time on Saturday but maybe that was just the time of day. It's sort of out of the way but if I lived in that neighbourhood, I would go all the time. We had a set menu, which was a little restrictive but everything was very good classic French. The bread was crazy good. They don't make it there but who cares, it was amazing.

Yelp
This is an excelent french restaurant serving delicious food and a pleasant service! I went there last month with some members of my family, everybody loved it without exception! I highly recommend this place to people seeking a nice dinner!

Yelp
Wonderful, attentive, but not overbearing service even though we used a Groupon. Had the eggs benedict, sea bream (good but personally not something I'd order again), and strawberry tart. Husband loved his steak and fries and creme brulee. The portion sizes were also really nice for a pricey restaurant. Only thing I would change is the flavor of the herbed butter that came with the bread. I prefer plain, fresh butter. We would definitely return.

Yelp
Lovely ambience and fantastic food, one of Chiswick's hidden gems. The atmosphere is formal but staff are friendly and very accommodating. The vacherin platter was generous in proportion and definitely a must for cheese fans, and the venison fillet was one of the best I have ever tasted. Great selection of wines on offer at varying prices.

Yelp
Another great French restaurant in Chiswick. Nice family atmosphere, good selection of wine and the ChateauBriand is really good. Another good menu choice is there baked cheese starter - something very unique, although I think that might now be off the menu - which is a real shame. Wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful staff (if you like your steak rare they will cook it Blue in a French way - no problem). Overall an excellent dining experience.

Yelp
What value for the price! Went there on a weekday and their prix fixe menu is unbeatable! The food is excellent. Cannot wait to try their regular menu!

Yelp
I had dinner here last night and the food was very good, the wine superb. I am a woman alone traveling on business therefore I had no dining companions. I was greeted by the manager with total disdain, seated in the front room by myself, told the dining room was all booked which it was not and left to feel most awkward. Though an occasional waiter glanced over in my direction I literally waited 45 minutes for my meal. Delicious as it was, I would never go back here. If an establishment does not know how to treat its guest why would I contribute in any small part to its success. Very disappointing.

Yelp
We went here on a voucher deal. Great food throughout: foie gras smooth superb, sea bream with risotto a point, chicken with a great sauce, spicy cheeses and apricot tarte tatin. Not a lot of guests but everything made fresh. Don't go here in a rush. Very much enjoyed the lunch.

Yelp
I just wanted to add a quick addition to my last review. I went there for lunch this week with family. They did a fantastic three-course prix fixe lunch menu. It was delicious and only £16.95 each. That's really good for this quality of cooking. Definitely a good lunch spot and much quieter during the day too.

Yelp
Gives La Trompette a run for its money, potentially suffering only from accessibility issues if on foot. Has a very indulgent vibe, order the baked Vacherin and follow with the chateaubriand and you'll know about it! Love it here though, beautiful restaurant.

Yelp
As I write I struggle between three and four stars. The food I had that night would definitely deserve a four. As the name suggests it is a very French affair. Starting with their signature dish baked vacherin with almonds & truffles, went down really well and 'vacherin' is one of my favourite soft cheeses anyway. For main course the côte de boeuf with béarnaise sauce and matchstick potatoes was very good (especially the frites, which were crisp on the outside and soft inside). I don't want to pretend to know food inside out but it seemed a bit of a pretentious menu that is missing the Wow! factor that would make up for its pretentiousness. After all, if you look at the restaurant's credentials you would expect almost the best-the owner is an ex-Savoy chef- In addition I felt the service was slow as if they could allow themselves to be, or maybe its a ploy to make you consume more wine while you wait. Another thing, be sure to dress smart as you don't want your evening to become uncomfortable because- for some reason- people stare at you if you are not wearing high heels.

Yelp
Competent cooking and a nice ambiance for Sunday lunch. And friendly professional staff. Perhaps too many British dishes for my taste.

Yelp
I visited Le Vacherin for dinner last Wednesday and my oh my was I ever impressed. The restaurant was very nearly full but despite not having a reservation we were made to feel immediately welcome and seated instantly....bread and two kinds of butter were served immediately and our fellow diners had that smug look about them that only people 'in the know' about a great neighbourhood place have. We ordered a very good, very reasonably priced Sauvingon Blanc (under £20) and sat back to peruse the menu. We had actually come in to sample their France for under a Tenner promotion which offers steak frites and a glass of good red for £9.95 having heard great things about it but couldn't resist ordering a starter so kicked off with the Foie Gras with baked fig which was every bit as lovely as it sounded, caramelised Foie and a perfectly juicy fig...heaven. We then had the steak frites which was really good and given the price tag exceptional value for money a thick cut juicy piece of beef and hand made double cooked chips, crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle.... but I have to say that looking round at what other people were having next time I'm going a la carte at £35 for three courses for this standard of cooking it's the best deal in town.....everyone looked so damn happy, the lighting was perfect, the service unobtusvie whilst remaining attentive and what really tickled my friend was that the lack of annoying music in the restaurant, a particular pet peeve of hers, was evident in the ladies loo which was a lovely touch, she felt that on a date she should waft back to the table on a cloud after having been seranaded with french love songs as she powedered her nose..each to their own...but....it's this attention to detail plus the warmth of the welcome and the great food that makes Le Vacherin such a great and rare find in London.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant serving top quality authentic french food. A little off the beaten track, its worth heading to for a lively enjoyable evening. Sea-bass, chateaubriand, vacherin with almonds all recommended. Not cheap though mainly down to the wine list. So choose carefully.

Yelp
We've been to LV about four times now over the past couple of years and we're never disappointed. It is unashamedly French, the decor is understated (and quite dark!), and the staff are friendly and not too formal. The wine list, as other people have said, is very extensive and for the quality of the food I really don't think it represents bad value for money at all. Try the baked cheese starter and forget about the calories.

Yelp
Average food, poor service. Not worth the high prices. Plenty of other better places locally, even the chains!!

Yelp
An exquisite French restaurant on the green. The menu is exceptional - always go for the cheese board! The waiters are very knowledgeable of the preparation and source of the food. Definitely somewhere to go for a special dinner with friends, a romantic indulgence or a celebratory team dinner. I will definitely keep finding reasons to go back for more!

Excellent service, tasty dishes and athmosphere that makes me feel more than welcome, I recommend the restaurant to everybody!

Yelp
This was a disappointing experience. The food was OK, just a little bland. The ambiance is lovely and the service was excellent.

Qype User (Ianpat…)

Yelp
Excellent local restaurant doing French food very well indeed. Good for evening meals and Sunday lunches, the times I've been so far. Excellent atmosphere with attentive but not intrusive staff, keeping things relaxed but well run. Reasonably priced too especially if you're easy on the wine. I've only had good experiences there too. My elderly mother enjoys it too despite being one for traditional British food.

Yelp
Very good food, whatever fish or fowl, very friendly staff and a good quality/price ratio . I had a nice evening there a few days ago , my first experience, it's nice to have so good restaurants in Chiswick, not far from our holiday stop.
