There was an ad in the newspaper for this winery, so my GF and I thought we would "try it out" on one of our Canadian foodie days. (We live in northern Vermont.) we had to use the GPS to get there, as it was way off the beaten path, and we passed multiple other wineries on our way there. So we wondered if we should have stopped at the ones that were easier to access, and sang Deliverance-style dueling banjos to each other as we took turn after turn on gravel roads.
But it was so worth it! It looks brand new, and super-swanky. You walk across a modern pedestrian covered bridge to get from the parking lot to the winery, and the building in front of you are modern and tastefully done. Of the main building, the ground level is for standing at the bar and tasting. Go up the stairs for a sit-down experience: in essence, for a more relaxed time, with the possibility to sample food-wine pairings. The view of the GREAT OUTDOORS was amazing and relaxing.
So the wine is great. Our favorite was the Chardonnay (hers) and the Pinot Noir (mine). I have the feeling that they use fewer of those tricks commonly used to make vintages more consistent year-to-year. I bought a bottle of each ($27 for the first and $23 for the second). The service, while earnest, had some hiccups. There was a large, loud bachelorette party that came in, so maybe they were dealing with that group. Thank god they sat inside, bc when we went in to pay our bill, they were already obnoxious. The food chosen to pair with each wine was delicate (small but meticulous) and complemented the wine well. The menu was a little complicated, so I would ask questions. We were confused even after we ordered about what exactly we would be getting. We each got the five-wine tasting "Complement," which include two whites, one sparkling, one rosé, and a red. They speak English, as in most every merchant in Quebec. It can be halting and accented at times, but that adds to the charm. All in all, I highly recommend it.
