"An East Coast–inspired bakery from Jamieson Leadbetter will take over the former Castro Fountain location and is slated to open in mid-May. Google
Delightful breakfast sandwich spot!! I had never heard of a bakery that specializes in English muffins, but Leadbetters absolutely excels at building the most beautiful English muffin sammies. The muffins themselves are quite large and robust (perhaps 1.5x the size of a standard grocery store English muffin), and they feature your standard white or whole wheat muffins, as well as a ton of options with fun flavors infused. You can get the muffins plain or topped with just a pat of butter or jam, but they also have the most amazing selection of sandwiches. I opted for their avocado toast, which comes with a generous portion of super fresh mashed avocado, pickled onions, and sprouts. I also added on some scrambled eggs for extra protein, and they were great — super creamy, rich, and just the right amount of salt. The overall toast didn’t have a ton of flavor, but they have a few hot sauces available that really leveled up the toast. My partner got their standard breakfast sandwich with bacon, which came with the same beautifully scrambled eggs, a slice of cheddar, and layer of perfectly crispy bacon. The staff is super friendly and very ready to answer any and all questions about their menu, and I loved the outdoor seating space. The little nooks on the sidewalk balcony were really cute and cozy, and the street was quiet enough that we weren’t disturbed during our meal but hopping enough that there was plenty of good people watching. We loved our brunch here, and I can’t wait to come back!!

Google
An awesome addition for breakfast and pastry options. These are the most delicious English muffins I’ve ever encountered— with different innovative flavors. My favorite might be caramelized onion or might be ginger apricots or plain delightful ones?! Packaged into a succulent egg and sausage sandwich and I melt just like their melted cheese… bring a bag home for toasted avocado treats in the morning … but throw in a huge slice of blueberry banana bread or apple turnover and you’d be all set!! Super kind and gregarious staff — big hi to Jamieson and Nikko. We’ve got a favorite spot in the hood!

Google
Leadbetter’s is brand new, but already feels like it belongs here. They’re keeping it simple for now—just English muffins and banana bread—and honestly, that’s all they need. The muffins are next-level: crisp on the outside, soft and chewy inside, with a deep flavor you just don’t get from the store-bought kind. And the banana bread? Super moist, not too sweet, and somehow nostalgic. Coffee and espresso aren’t here yet, but they’re on the way. I’m already picturing myself grabbing a muffin and a cappuccino before walking the dog or heading to work. Friendly staff, cool vibe, and quality that speaks for itself. A welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Google
Got the breakfast sandwich but was kinda disappointed since the bread was kinda tough and the sausage tasted like it was a frozen store bought sausage. So I’d give it 3.5/5. Maybe it was a bad batch but I would like to come here and try again maybe one day.

Google
Great new place in the neighborhood, fast and friendly service. The English muffins are a great texture and I love the different flavorings. Can't wait to come back!

Google
Great little cafe. The English muffins are huge and soft and delicious. Throw the bacon and eggs on and it's decadent and scrumptious. I like to go go with half the usual amount of egg as they use 2 eggs on it which can be a hit overwhelming.

Google
Such an amazing addition to the castro, the english muffins are amazing and the breakfast sandwich is such a classic. You can tell they've put a lot of work into the baked goods, and the drip coffee is also great (espresso machine on the way). Friendly staff and also family owned - go support!!

Google
Great (and large) english muffins! Sandwich was good if a bit plain.

Yelp
Delicious and massive breakfast sandwich! Ordering at the counter was easy and friendly. I knew what I was there for but they have some other fresh baked treats to try as well that also look amazing. Will have to try one of them next time. They have a few tables outside to enjoy their food or you can take it to nearby Duboce park which is what I did. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Delicious breakfast sandwich and cold brew (with the brown butter sweetener). The eggs were fluffy, the bacon wasn't soggy, and the English muffin was so airy. Nice vibe but only a couple tables outside. Quick and friendly service. No espresso, cold brew and drip only.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in SF and I love breakfast sandwiches so I've tried a bunch. I had never been a huge English muffin fan since most of my experience with them had been Thomas's which is probably not the best example. This English muffin was so different, so thick and fluffy. I got the sun-dried tomato one which was very flavorful. Generous amount of eggs, also quite fluffy. Generous amount of cheese, perfectly melted. I was super excited to see there was the option to add housemade sausage (sausage is my breakfast protein of choice when available) and that was juicy and also packed full of flavor. Since my baby had fallen asleep, I opted to eat my sandwich at one of the outdoor tables and enjoy the neighborhood instead of taking it home. Gonna have to return so my husband can try it since he had to go in to work that day so missed out. Oh there are also really nice cross-stitch pieces around the store. The owner said his mother-in-law (if I recall correctly) made them. I loved the SF one.

Yelp
we've been eagerly awaiting this spot's opening, and I was so excited when I had a moment to stop in on their first official day. They did a nice job with the space and their staff is super friendly and welcoming. They had their sticky bread on sample and it was absolutely delicious. Cannot wait to bring my kiddo here. breakfast is pretty much her favorite meal of the day. right after I ordered a breakfast sando the owner came out to ask if I had a little bit of extra time. I said yes, but they only needed like five minutes. He didn't like the quality of the eggs they had ready and wanted to make a new batch. Talk about your quality control! While I waited outside on a bench he chatted to me about their delicious sticky bread and how they make it from the leftover pieces of the English muffin dough so that there's no waste. So rad! We can expect lots of different kinds of sticky bread made from the different biscuit doughs they produce. Cannot wait for the cherry chocolate. More savory items are on the way, but it's definitely already worth a stop in to this lovely family owned and operated business. my sando was delish and the eggs were perfect btw! this is definitely going to be a favorite among our school community since it's just around the corner.

Yelp
new family owned bakery in town, with humongous and actually quite scrumptious english muffin sandwiches. the muffins are crispy outside but light & airy inside. they aren't cheap but they are huge so definitely shareable!

Yelp
Food: I got the Breakfast sandwich with bacon on Herb English Muffin and it was soo good. Not greasy at all, the eggs were so beautifully fluffy and not to mention generous egg portions. The bacon was cooked exactly how I personally prefer it (crispy on outside but chewy in middle). The herbs in the english muffin added the perfect hint of flavor without being overwhelming. The english muffins are such a nice size and fluffy with a nice crust. It was a 5-10 minute wait for the sandwich, which felt like was the case for the guests ahead of and after me in line. The length was longer than I was hoping for but 2 potential factors - 1) the place recently opened so they might still be working out the kinks and 2) the sandwich looked made to order and good things take time :) I recommend buying some english muffins to take home to have the next day! Service: Service people were lovely and friendly! Ambiance: The inside of the battery feels warm and cozy and is nicely decorated. It feels like they're positioning themselves to be a neighbor staple. There's very few seating at the time of writing, minus 3 benches outside, so this should be seen as a grab and go spot!

Yelp
My sun dried tomato bagel with homemade sausage and egg was absolutely delicious!! I also really enjoyed the little samples of cake and other pastries they had. The wait time was a bit longer than expected so next time might run to Walgreens to run errands after ordering. Service was really friendly and I always love seeing a family owned business thriving (grew up working in a Peruvian restaurant myself so I know it can be tough but extremely rewarding to work with family).

Yelp
The menu is minuscule and they still don't use fresh eggs or actual cheese! This is McDonalds in disguise. The bacon egg and cheese sandwich is made from Sysco pre-mixed egg batch, (like McDonalds) with slices of "American cheese" (like McDonalds) and okay bacon. All this is on a barely toasted english muffin leads to a mediocre experience for a premium price. (The outside of the sandwich was toasted but the inside wasn't, like they put the entire thing in a panini press instead of toasting the english muffin first. Isn't the entire point of an english muffin to have a toasted "nooks and crannies" crunchy experience?) There is also a lack of flavor and WAY too much oil. A few bites of the sandwich and my mouth was so coated it felt like I'd taken a shot of pure canola. Very disappointing. Go to McDonald's instead if you want an oily under-toasted Sysco-filled english muffin.

Yelp
Super friendly and delicious. You can tell the owners are working their butts off to make this place great. The breakfast sando with eggs and bacon is delightful. Eggs super good and buttery. Bacon great and the English muffin is huge and fluffy. But the hidden star of the show is the Pizza muffin. I used to have these when I was a kid. I find my favorite restaurants take a nostalgic item and make it like 10x more amazing and that's true here. It's like something from childhood but somehow better instead of worse. Love it. And you can even order 1 half instead of a full (2 halves)

Yelp
In the heart of the Castro, Leadbetters Bake Shop is quickly proving itself to be a breakfast spot worth seeking out. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, whose family roots in baking run deep. His passion shows in every detail, and it's clear he's not just making food, he's carrying on a craft. The English muffins alone are reason enough to stop by. Not only do they come in plain, but also Whole Wheat, Cinnamon Raisin, Herb, Olive Apricot Ginger, Cherry Chocolate, Roasted Onion, and Sundried Tomato. Each one is baked large, fluffy, and packed with flavor. I went for the breakfast sandwich with eggs, cheddar, and bacon. The first bite was pure bliss. The English muffin had the perfect chew and toasted crunch, while the smoky bacon, fluffy eggs, and melted cheddar blended together like a symphony. It's the kind of sandwich that makes you slow down and savor every bite. This spot is the real deal. Whether you grab a dozen muffins to take home or dive into their sandwiches on the spot, Leadbetters comes through. Honestly, it's worth more than one visit...because once you try it, you'll want to taste every flavor they bake.

Yelp
Yum! Who knew English muffins were a thing? Had the mushroom melt, very tasty. Good price point. Super cute family working the register and front of house. So glad to see Ledbetter's here. A new reason to detour on my morning walks!

Yelp
Sorry to see Castro fountain go, but I came in and got what looked like the last piece of sticky bread at this new place, late in the afternoon. It was incredibly tasty. Omg really good and tasted fresh. I think the whole family operator group was there, and that was nice to see. There's more in the menu I didn't try, but for the first taste, it was exceptional.

Yelp
Amazing family run bakery. Try the mushroom melt with egg! I enjoy stopping by for a delicious pastry.

Yelp
Lovely and super friendly family owned space. Great English muffins which were larger than I expected. The Breakfast sandwich had light and fluffy eggs with crisp bacon.
google avatar

Yelp
Thrilled to have this bakery in the neighborhood! We tried the bacon breakfast sandwich and the mushroom melt with egg--absolutely delicious. Already looking forward to our next visit! Great service.

Yelp
I've been noticing the big shop near my office in the Castro and have been wanting to go in while I was waiting for my coffee across the street. I went in to see what they had. The owner was amazingly accommodating and very friendly. I had the smoke salmon with cream cheese - it was the best I have had in the city! I will be back!
google avatar

Scott L.

Yelp
Fresh English Muffins with olives make for the best breakfast sandwich, it turns out! Banana bread is lovely too! Loving this new addition to our diverse business community!
google avatar

Kumiko H.

Yelp
THE BREAKFAST SANDWICH--The muffin was so soft and airy, and the egg and bacon created perfect harmony. I've never had such a dreamy breakfast sandwich like this. THE STICKY BREAD - please have it toasted and ask to put butter on it. It made my Saturday morning brighter.
google avatar

Yelp
New breakfast spot in the Castro did not miss! They have a specialty larger English muffin they create and the texture is AMAZING! Got the sun dried tomato with goat cheese, and demolished it lol definitely a must try

Yelper J.

Yelp
Great spot. Delicious food. Really friendly people work here. Might take a little while to make the sandwiches but totally worth it.

Lilia R.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich was delicious. Disappointed they ran out of sausage and it was only 12pm but still a really good sandwich.

Torrpedo T.

Yelp
Tasty new breakfast sandwich place in the Castro and very reasonably priced. Nice folks running the shop - highly recommend.

Yelp
Amazing bakery with a truly wonderful breakfast sandwich. What a great addition to the neighborhood! Come here!!

Michael B.

Yelp
great coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and friendly staff. English muffins are incredible.

Allan D.

Yelp
Awesome English muffins and breakfast sandwich. Also tried the sticky bread which was fantastic. Not too sweet which is how I prefer pastries. Let's keep this place in business!

Fred M.

Yelp
These are the best breakfast sandwiches you will ever have in your entire life. The family who run the bakery are wonderful, and the pastries are absolutely delicious. 'Nuff said.

David W.

Yelp
Delicious and filling breakfast sandwiches. Prices are very reasonable. The space is nice. Owners are super friendly! They did a great job with the place and will make a great addition to the Castro community! Will be back

Sapna S.

Yelp
Once you have these English muffins you won't have any other. The sandwiches are amazing and the muffins are perfect. A fabulous family owned shop

Catherine C.

Yelp
My husband never stops anywhere on his way to the office, so I was shocked when he felt compelled to pop in here on a random weekday. He texted me right after--"the sandwiches are insanely good." Naturally, we came back that weekend with our 1-year-old and ordered two sandwiches, a pizza sandwich for her, and some monkey bread. Everything was so delicious--we devoured it all just sitting outside their shop. Such a great new addition to the neighborhood!

John

Yelp
There is something to be said about family owned businesses who are truly family owned and run businesses. "Leadbetter Bake Shop" is owned and run by an entire family (husband, wife, and two sons). They are all the sweetest people who want to become a part of the community. Not to mention their food is AMAZING! I mean who doesn't like fresh baked english muffins in a variety of flavors, fresh baked pastries, and freshly made sandwiches? We can't wait to go back for another delicious meal!

Glenn S.

Yelp
Breakfast sandwich was delicious! I ordered with bacon and added avocado. Highly recommend it.
