The Newest Bars in Philly, March 2020

"Cocktail lounge Leda and the Swan is open in Center City with a velvet-curtained entrance, DJs and live music on weekends, and drinks named for mythological figures. It’s from the owners of Vesper, nearby, and Northern Liberties’ Vesper Day Club and Germantown Beer Garden." - Rachel Vigoda

Great atmosphere! I asked for a strawberry margarita but this is what I actually received. I ended up having to try & muddle the strawberry myself. I don’t think the female bartender knew how to make one!😂 However, the drink was pretty good despite the lack of strawberry flavor. The people were friendly, music was nice, and the customer service was great! I would definitely return!💯

Google
I was surprised when I saw that this bar had lower than a 4 star review. The drink menu was impressive and expertly crafted. My wife and I had a couple of cocktails while an awesome jazz band played in the background. Ambiance is nice and perfect for a date night, wine, happy hour, or just a place to catch some good tunes. 5 stars for creativity in both the space and menu. 🙌🏻

Google
I went with a group of friends for the first time to Happy Hour. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The veggie roll and dumplings were delicious! My only issue was the seating. The low stools are uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time. Have your friends rotate seats and you’ll have a fun evening!!

Google
Definitely a pricey spot if you’re not there for happy hour, but it’s definitely got cute vibes & a nice esthetic. The happy hour deal is 2 cocktails and a sushi roll for $25. Our waiter was so sweet and even though we got there right before happy hour was about to end, she didn’t make us order everything at once to get the deal. Would definitely come back.

Google
Great staff!! The group I was with had an issue with other guests last night, and the staff was quick to shut the problem down and accommodate us for the inconvenience. The drinks were good, and it’s a great atmosphere!! The flowers are cute that hang from the ceiling and the pink lights are really pretty. We will definitely be returning based off of how the staff treated us, but we also had a great time other than that!!

I had been wanting to come here for so long so for my birthday I got a big group together and made a reservation a month ago. As we were on our way into the city we got a call saying they had to cancel all reservations with no reason other than “my manager told me to.” I understand things happen but at least show some sort of empathy, give an actual explanation as to why a reservation that was made a month ago is getting cancelled, and offer some sort of compensation! Maybe just turn away walk ins and don’t accept other reservations if it’s a staffing issue or be transparent with your customers about your horrible decision making! Terrible business practice and after this experience I’m grateful I didn’t spend a dime there.

Google
We came here on a Saturday night around 11pm. The drink menu is extensive and unique. I got the Flora, which I really enjoyed. My friend got another drink that changed colors after pouring in a small glass which was cool. The music was fun. I think the drinks were priced well based off their quality. We sat at a table and our server was nice. We were surprised that it wasn’t more packed on a Saturday night. I would recommend to a friend

Google
Came on a Friday night without a reservation and were seated inside immediately without any issues. Seats between parties were far apart. Service was on the slower side but cocktails were inventive and good. Sushi was good enough to avoid drinking on an empty stomach. Don't come here for the food This place is definitely "instagramable" and has a vibe but nothing else special about it. Would come back for happy hour to try their different cocktails.

Yelp
Hated the atmosphere. A dead club. Not fun. It was so dull that my wife and were immediately pulled into the back which is a different restaurant.
google avatar

Thuy H.

Yelp
Cute spot and bartenders are nice. Mocktail prices are quite high in price though and on the extremely sweet side. I tried 2 different ones and they were both a bit hard to take down. I haven't tried any foods yet though, so this review is strictly just for drinks. Will I be back? Of course. They do salsa dancing here!

Yelp
Arrived on time for my reservation (party of 2) and waited 15 minutes, just for a party of 6 to be seated immediately upon their arrival. When we questioned the hostess and manager about why this party was sat before us, they didn't seem to care or have an answer. Needless to say we left pretty upset and will not be returning.

Yelp
So I'm 50/50 about this place that's opposite The RAW restaurant. The best place about this was tufted chairs and the ceiling. This place is very small. I was here for a party so i don't know how it looks as a restaurant. But it's soso. I didn't have the full experience so I'll be back when i have the full experience.

Yelp
Almost walked by this gem of a place when I was searching for it! The window is completely covered by dark curtains and you wouldn't know it was open unless you listened to the music coming from inside! Gump, the manager, had an open table for us so we were able to be seated without issues, but I recommend getting a reservation if you can! This lounge was honestly so amazing. The vibes were immaculate. Everything from the decor, drinks, and music was ideal! For cocktails we ordered the Shiro, Trobairitz, and Lilith. The Trobairitz cocktail (made with sparkling wine and Grey Goose) was my absolute favorite because it was refreshing without being incredibly sweet. The DJ played some throwback hits, both in English and Japanese, as well as more recent hits. It made for a great atmosphere! Overall, this is a great place to have a date or catch up with friends. I'll be back whenever I'm in town again!

Yelp
I can't wait to get back here for another cocktail! My friend and I visited after a dinner reservation back in February. We arrived around 7/ 7:30. It wasn't too crowded and I think we had one of the best seats in house, a high top. The couches did look comfortable, but a little bit of a tighter fit. The upstairs balcony wasn't open this weekend. The servers were stylish, friendly and attentive. The menu was a little hard to read, lights were pretty low and set a nice mood, but there were candles on the table to help with that. The menu was fun, lots of different cocktail options and I always love a good theme'd bar. The decor was sexy, the live music was amazing. By 10 this place was packed so I recommend coming a little earlier and just enjoy a good time! I remember when we were looking for the place it was so hidden that we walked past it haha. Keep your eyes peeled and definitely grab a drink here!

Yelp
Came here for a Kentucky derby event. Loved the atmosphere - the place was covered in rose petals and balloons and they were supplying derby hats for every guest! Appetizers were solid but had more of a 'bar food' vibe. The wings and shishito peppers were excellent and the fries were fries (but was obsessed with the wasabi aioli dip that came along with them). Loved the energy of the staff - they were all super attentive and upbeat! Looking forward to coming here again on a jazz night

Yelp
The brunch cocktails are fire, but the food included with the $50 per person bottomless brunch is not sufficient to sustain the amount of alcohol you will consume. All of the cocktails were good but the Kali Krush was my favorite. They provide a pre-prepared charcuterie board and sushi assortment. They could not provide more crackers for the charcuterie or make modifications to the type of sushi rolls provided. The sushi rolls are miniature and we didn't care for 3 of the 5 rolls included. The charcuterie was mostly veggies and hummus with about 10 crackers, 2 small cheese wedges, and 3 kinds of meat. I saw some pictures others posted also included pickles and fruit but ours did not. We bee lined down the street to Shake Shake the minute our 2 hour limit was up at Leda & The Swan.

Yelp
1 week out: Booked a table through Open Table for 6:30pm for drinks. 2 days out: Confirmed rez. Day of: Verified that it was "open" on Open Table. 6:30pm: Doors were locked to this spot. Beware of false bookings between the establishment and the reservation apps. Useless.

Yelp
I was so impressed with this place. The gentleman at the door was so nice and welcoming. I'm upset I didn't ask his name so that I can put it on here but he was very nice to my husband and I and set the tone for our evening. The staff inside was also so nice, the service was all around great. Whenever I'm back in the area we will definitely go back. The cocktails we tried were very good and the orders came out quickly. The music was also good and everyone was having a great time.

Yelp
Time for an update! We went yesterday for happy hour. Their happy hour menu is probably the best I have seen because they include all their cocktails on the hh menu! The Return to Olympus made it to my top 5 best cocktails in Philly. Their hh food menu is also quite inclusive and we chose to have the Bulgogi bao buns and the Spicy tuna sushi both were soo good! Recommend!

Yelp
How have I been in Philly for almost 4 years and not been to this place?! Honestly, I had a hard time finding it during my visit last week. Had to go the old school route and follow sign boards for once. Any who... after realizing my dependence on google maps I finally found this 'hideaway' bar that I crossed several times on my earlier attempts. They had their drapes closed and it looked like a property that had gone out of business lol. Ambiance: I was pleasantly surprised by the interiors. They have a seating upstairs for bigger groups that tends to get noisy. There was live music when we went and called for a perfect date night/ drinks with friends. Drinks/ Food Not too many food options, they did have some sushi that I did not get. I got the 'Ulysses' and replaced the Tullamore Dew(Whiskey) with Rum. Overall the drink was great but a little too sweet for my liking. I also tried the 'Shiro' but with Rum instead of Mezcal. I found the ginger too overpowering so request to go easy on that. Definitely coming back for more live music!

Yelp
Nice little lounge that opened up! Had a chance to check it out after work and enjoyed my time! This place is in the middle of all the action in CC but can get past you as the signage is not completely apparent when walking the streets. It's a small unassuming door to the entrance where the wait staff greets you. It's much longer than wide. Towards the left is a full bar and then a dance floor/lounge area opens up. The back has a full booth/small tables and then it's attached to the adjoining establishment for bathrooms. The drinks are inventive and have subtle hints of deviousness and mystique. Alluring for sure and I think that's the vibe they're going for. The lighting is muted but not too dim and the tall ceilings really open up the space that may feel more cramped otherwise given how narrow it is. Overall, chill HH spot and looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
This is what philadelphia needded!!! The music is on point, drinks are eclectic, vibe is amazing! Thee crowd is mixed too. Had such a fun time here. Will definitely be returning!!
google avatar

Yelp
Needed a place for cocktails and live music while I was visiting for the weekend! This place was it. If you want a table you'd need to make reservations otherwise you can sit at the bar. Dim lights, sleek, and red velvet all around! Nice ambiance. If your in Center City...check it out. Not a typical bar/restaurant.
google avatar

Tashalee B.

Yelp
It's definitely my go to spot. It's a very sexy place to go to on a date or a night out with your girlfriends! I've walked past this place so many times and didn't even notice it was there. The have lots of drink options and a handful of small foods like very simple sushi and edamame. Nothing fancy. I personally would t go there for the food at all. If you want sushi go to a sushi restaurant. If you want drinks and a great environment that's indoors come here!
google avatar

Kendal C.

Yelp
Felt like I stepped into a mythical dream the minute I walked through the door. This is the perfect date night spot. Dimly lit, elegant, and the Trobairitz cocktail with grey goose, sparkling wine, and peppercorn syrup was fabulous. Gave the salmon avocado sushi roll a try -- not too shabby! Beautiful decor, great service. We had a high top at the bar, would definitely like to try one of the seating options in the back next time. Note: other than the sushi rolls, they do not offer a full food menu.
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
Bar has amazing music to vibe to. Fairly empty on a Thursday night. Service was great. Staff had masks on the whole time and was very helpful on drink recommendations.
google avatar

Rachelle L.

Yelp
This bar is still open during the pandemic. You are required to wear a mask whenever you are up out of your seat. They drinks and music were good. They played top 40.
google avatar

Dee K.

Yelp
Happy Hour is false advertisement and for ONE person an added 20% gratuity automatically added. This is nowhere printed and I mean nowhere printed on the menu! Drinks taste watered down for the prices given. Sushi Roll taste old and dry. The fact that there is no one to get in contact with when realizing being overcharged via phone or email is insane. So it would have to be done in person. As much as I eat and drink downtown, nowhere have I ever experienced a shot of Tito's vodka for $12! If you plan to go I'd advise to not eat here, DO NOT have an open tab and by all means pay in cash after every drink. By far this is going to be a journey for me to dispute these charges. I left feeling taken advantage of and overcharged. There is no limit to the capacity of people and no AC. Only thing I enjoyed was the music.

Yelp
These Japanese devours come from the well-known @lnsphilly . This upscale dining/lounge is known for its amazing and creative drinks as well as its aesthetics. They offer happy hour from Thursday to Saturday from 5 PM to 7 PM. They also offer a $25 2 drink and one food item special. The vibes are really dope here and I had the pleasure of meeting my amazing bartender Desiree. She was really dope and cool and really helped me through the menu. Wow here I ordered the return to oculus . Which is made up of rye, Rose syrup, lemon vranac float. This drink was simply amazing and very tasteful! I didn't know what to expect but it blew my mind. I then ordered the spicy tuna roll as well as the "Leda Roll". The Leda roll is which was crab meat and aioli. The spicy tuna roll was actually spicy what really made me happy because most spicy tuna rolls aren't spicy. The Leda roll was super good definitely packed with crab meat and was simply amazing. While Hera also found out that this establishment is directly connected to @1225raw sushi bar! Which is really dope because you can walk from one establishment to another and get a complete different vibe. If you ever find yourself wanting some dope vibes and try some new drinks as well as eating some fine sushi please check out @lnsphilly and ask for Desiree and tell her Shimmy sent you! #food #foodporn #foodie #foodphotography #foodblogger #foodpics #sushi #japanesefood #japanese #drinks #signituredrinks #philly #philadelphia #water #crab #tuna #date #datenight #vibes #happyhour #friends #friendship #friend #goodtimes #shimmyeats #shimmy

Yelp
Great new addition to center city! Nice bar with cocktails + extensive group cocktail menu. There are a few seated tables and a live band who treated us to covers of popular songs. DJ takes over at night and they told us that there is an upstairs area that would be available for reservation for tables/bottles in the future. I am excited about the grand opening this weekend and look for it to a new staple of the center city scene!

Yelp
I finally decided to visit Leda and the swan this weekend. I came here with 2 friends, place wasn't too packed and we were able to get a small table. There was live music but it wasn't anything crazy, however, kinda too loud for not being a "club" type of place because everyone were just sitting and talking. Drinks were good, little too sweet, but strong. So they need some work on that because it was a bit too pricy for what you get. Staff are great and I think it has a lot of potential.
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
came here on a friday night for a drink or 2. it was quite crowded but had good music and good vibes. i got a honey and blueberry vodka club, for the price i wanted more flavor but i barely could taste it. overall, it's a great new addition to CC and can't wait to check it out more when its' a little less crowded

Bryant C.

Yelp
This bar tries to cater to an older demographic in its decor, but continues to act as a dive bar for college kids in the way it conducts business and the music it plays. Drinks were not great at all, but the service was nice.
google avatar

Cassie A.

Yelp
Came on a Saturday night and the place was packed. I was surprised that the service was great/fast given how crowded it was. Our cocktails were decent, and we would have stayed for a second round except the music was really not good. They had a live musician which we love, but the music was so slow and low key that we were falling asleep. We thought this was odd given the # of people and the up beat vibe of the crowd. I'd say def liven in up on a Saturday night and we would try it again.

Karley P.

Yelp
Great drinks, but all of them taste pretty similar. Just took a while as one bartender hand-made every drink for the 30+ people inside. The waitress brings you a charcuterie board after seating for 30 minutes and removed the plastic wrap for you at the table. As you head to the bathroom you can see your charcuterie board sitting on the floor as the "out of order" employee the bathroom leaks into the box they're sitting in. We checked with surrounding tables and half of them did not receive their board as the employees told them they were all out for the day.
google avatar

Neil R.

Yelp
This place is great. I had the chance to go when indoor dining was still available. The indoor is reminiscent of Ranstead Room. It's dark, intimate, and a great place to take a date. They also have an upstairs area too to make it even more exclusive. My friend and I got cocktails here. I got the "Return to Olympus", which was amazing. It was refreshing, smooth, and the egg white made it extra creamy. We also shared some edamame, which was weirdly addicting. I couldn't stop eating it! Leda & The Swan definitely has a place in Philly's speakeasy and cocktail lounge scene. I can't wait to be back in January when indoor dining is available again.

Yelp
This rating is based on their brunch service. 4/5 stars for the unlimited drinks, for $50 and 2hrs of service. There are 4 different drink options, all champagne based. They do serve a small charcuterie board and basic sushi, which upon our research we did know before going. That being said, we knew that the food was not the main attraction, but the drinks and ambiance made up for it. Vaccine cards are required to enter. We walked past this place several times before realizing that it was the location, a small non descript sign is what you will look for. There was a DJ present who played 90s and pop music, and a large space for several groups. The waitress was amazing and friendly, she worked alone with a bartender, which was not a problem until the bar became busy, meaning we would sit without drinks for a little bit. However, the waitress was super sweet and we can't blame her for under staffing. The variety of drinks were lacking, but that being said, we did leave very buzzed from the drinks we had. I would definitely go back for another brunch, and eat before going!

Pronto T.

Yelp
The bartenders are very impatient and rude. I'm not sure what the issue, but they're going to run and tell their managers to approve of there rude behavior. Specifically the one with the nose ring and glasses. Totally unprofessional.

Yelp
Very interesting cocktail bar/club. We were here in its opening day and everything was still setting up.

Yelp
Great vibes, great assortment of people and drinks...Lady Antoinette was fantastic. Very attentive, very nice, and helped bring the overall experience to a 5 star rating.
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
Music was amazing and our server Antoinette was lovely. Great spot for intimate live music, and well crafted drinks. Will def be coming back!

Genesis Q.

Yelp
I frequent Leda at least a couple of times a month, mostly at night for their spectacular cocktails. The bartenders are very skilled and friendly. The music (DJs) could definitely be better, I don't think hardly any of them played any song released in the last 30 years. Also whenever I go, there aren't many people inside (probably because the music isn't very good).
google avatar

Ale H.

Yelp
I came here with my best friend i believe it was opening weekend. First of all, we were dressed cute as hell and the aesthetics of this place definitely complimented our outfits. It was packed basically on both floors. We just ordered a tequila sunrise, chugged it and left. The crowd wasn't really vibing well plus there didn't seem to be much diversity in the crowd but maybe that's just me. The music was sub par. One minute it was Drake playing and the next it was some Macklemore type of music.......anyway we came out to shake our ass, so we dipped. Cute place with lots of potential. I'll definitely be back to try their cocktail menu and shall update my review accordingly.

Jourdan G.

Yelp
I have been to this place twice now both really fun times. The first was when visiting the city and it was a quiet night and the man that seated us was great and gave us recs around the city. The 2nd was when they required covid vaccines which I am vaccinated and fully support and as we were walking in the bouncer let a couple in that stated they didn't have their vaccines at all BOTH OF THEM and he let them in. This was on Saturday August 14th. This was pretty infuriating as ppl take covid seriously and this bouncer just let in two ppl without vaccine cards. I don't know if he knew them or let them in cause of social profiling but it was very frustrating given the climate of COVID and level of protection vaccination cards hold

Abhay N.

Yelp
Nice ambience. The drinks are hit or miss. I really enjoyed a couple of them. The service is good. I'd recommend this place.

Lisa Z.

Yelp
I like it . Thank you , Will come back . Very nice place . Everything is good . Fast , Easy park !

Sacha M.

Yelp
Came for drinks on a Friday night. We were seated upstairs. The lighting and ambiance wasn't as great as the ground floor which was disappointing. Unfortunately, the cocktails were another disappointment. We tried the Shiro and Ulysses. The Shiro was awful. Way too many ingredients that didn't mesh well together at all. The Ulysses was better, but still not great, especially for the price. Went with beer for the rest of the night. OK but we won't return, there are much better options in the area.

H S.

Yelp
Went for Happy Hour with friends on Friday. Awesome deal on their very creative takes on cocktails

Amanda R.

Yelp
I personally think it was a waste of money. You think paying for unlimited they would keep the drinks rolling... nope. 45 min wait for each "flight" and you only get one for 8 people. The charcuterie board was nasty. The prosciutto was hard. It is not supposed to be like that EVER. Bagel was stale... idk save your money and go somewhere else. The music was horrible. I wanted to fall asleep.

Megan S.

Yelp
This place was terrible, the service took 45 minute to receive 1 drink for unlimited drinks. The chacuterie board we never received and they wanted us to pay 200 dollars for us getting 1 drink. Thankfully the chacuterie board people were amazing and appreciated that we told them there boards were being treated so badley after all there good work! We couldnt even get a water. Never go here

Lindsey F.

Yelp
Rashid was exceptional!! What an absolute gem. He committed to making sure our reservation was timely, and suggested drinks to our tastes. Rashid continued to check in periodically throughout our reservation, making recommendations and small talk that just personalized the experience. As a first time guest, I will be certain to come back solely on my experience with Rashid.

Kate N.

Yelp
I had such a great experience here! It's just a cocktail lounge so I wasn't expecting food or anything but the drinks were great!! And I was able to get some sushi. I will definitely be back

Lena N.

Yelp
My friends and I enjoyed a Saturday night here with lovely live music and amazing cocktails. Our server Antoinette was the sweetest. It was our first time there and we definitely will be coming back!
