The Best New Bars Around D.C. Right Now | Eater DC

"Chunky analog televisions, a vintage soda machine, and payphones just got a new life inside Adams Morgan’s nostalgia-inducing Legacy HiFi. The hip new hangout debuted in November at the top of the nightlife strip with $10 cocktails like an espresso martini, Moscow mule, margarita, rum punch, paloma, gin rickey, or Old Fashioned. Legacy HiFi comes from Marvin’s former head bartender Tim Slayton; Legacy DC co-creator and talented graffiti artist Tyler Stoe; and chef Mathew Ramsey, who turns to his childhood memories and fine dining background to unleash a soon-to-debut food menu full of “shorties” (sliders) and “slims” (hot dogs)." - Emily Venezky

A Hot Dog Time Machine Debuts in D.C. | Eater DC

"A nostalgia-driven Adams Morgan bar and music venue opened at 2471 18th Street NW that rolls vintage decor—chunky analog televisions, a vintage soda machine, payphones and other retro ephemera—into a lively nightlife outpost, opening daily “out of the gate at 5 p.m.” and making its debut on Thanksgiving Eve, one of the biggest going-out nights when hundreds of D.C. establishments pour until 4 a.m. The project comes from the team behind a multi-concept cultural hub at 14th and U (a rotating art gallery, live music and comedy, dispensary, streetwear and podcast studio) and marks that mashup brand’s first foray into hospitality, led by Tim Slayton, Legacy DC co-creator and graffiti artist Tyler Stoe, and chef Mathew Ramsey. Cocktails are notably affordable—$10 for an espresso martini, Moscow mule, margarita, rum punch, paloma, gin Rickey, or Old Fashioned (plus shot combos)—and the space will pair drinks with a soon-to-arrive food program built around cheffed-up sliders and hot dogs. Ramsey, author of ThePornburgercookbook and a veteran of Tail Up Goat (one Michelin star) and Pineapple & Pearls (two Michelin stars), draws on both fine-dining techniques and childhood burger-shack memories: the menu is intentionally pared-back and split into “shorties” (sliders) and “slims” (hot dogs) served on silver trays. The smash-patty sliders are inspired by Culver’s ButterBurger—dry-aged trio patties on soft potato rolls, slapped with a pat of miso-brown butter for a rich-and-juicy finish and dressed with mustard, pickles, griddled onions, and smoky sauce—while another slider, dubbed “kimento,” layers kimchi and pimento cheese with a hot honey drizzle. The all-beef smoked franks are pickle-brined, deep fried, and topped with diced onions and relish. Ramsey says, “I love how Pineapplebrings fun into the foodand I want to continue to do that with my own cuisine,” and he adds, “This day and age we want to do everything so grandiose — burgers have to have two patties or three toppings. I want to bring back what gave me butterflies,” reflecting the menu’s less-is-more philosophy; he also notes, “There’s a lot of history in this building, which was fun to discover.” Stoe contributes colorful street art and a vast collection of reclaimed items, including coin-operated telephones used in an interactive installation; the reclaimed soda machine functions as a repurposed door that opens to a staircase leading to a planned second level, and a roll-up garage door will lead to an outdoor patio in spring. Music is central—bands and weekly DJs will perform on a newly built stage—and the site sits at the top of the nightlife strip in a building with a storied past (it previously housed a rock-and-roll lounge called Asylum, where Harrison Ford once threw a party)." - Tierney Plumb

Wednesday karaoke was definitely a vibe! My sister was visiting from NY and we decided to try out this spot in AdMo and loved it! We got beef and vegan smash burger sliders and they were delicious! Bartender, staff and karaoke host were all so nice and welcoming! People were singing all kinds of songs at karaoke and having the best time. We stayed out way best our bedtime and would do it again! 10/10 recommend.

The food was so much better than I expected. We tried the whole menu, and the sliders were juicy, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. Even the fried hot dogs were delicious—and I’m not even usually a hot dog fan! The menu is great drunk/comfort food with a twist, and everything hit the spot. Even the honey bun for dessert hit the spot with some complex tastes that were overly sweet. They also have a full bar with cold draft beer and cocktails. We tried the HiFi Punch, which was super refreshing. What really stood out, though, were the vibes. Even on a rainy Tuesday, the place was buzzing, thanks to a live DJ keeping the energy up. Tim, in particular, made the experience awesome with his great energy and that really set the tone for the night. This is definitely a spot I can’t wait to come back to.

Walked into Legacy HiFi on a whim and ended up discovering one of the best bars in DC. The vibe is unmatched—dim lighting, vinyl spinning behind the bar, and sound that wraps around you like a warm jacket. It’s like a listening lounge meets cocktail haven. The bartender crafted a drink based on my mood (smooth with a twist), and the music sparked conversations between strangers. No TVs, no noise—just good drinks, great people, and legendary sound. If you love music and a damn good cocktail, this place is a must. They also have a kick ass karaoke night on Wednesdays!

Google
Don’t try to call it a karaoke night when it’s just someone who found a microphone and a YouTube channel and just lets their friends sing. It said it started at 8, but it didn’t start until 930. Literally a paper yellow notepad sign up. We were there for an hour and only two people sang… that ain’t karaoke night. Try again. So annoying.

Real nice addition to the block. Great bartenders, good drinks (thank you for good non alcoholic options!) and tasty snacks. Can’t wait to bring my friends!

Google
Seems like it could be a cool spot when the kitchen is reopened, but drinks are massively overpriced (with an unspecified service charge tacked on) especially when, despite the bartender's assertion that it should be, the draught Strongbow is served flat.

I am gonna start from Entry, you think there is not security, yes it does and if you make any problems I would not recommend to mess with security . Second after you in you are realizing every one is so relaxe and nice . The third thing what I saw was that it is so diverse . I am almost 50 and I was not the oldest but you have also younger people( from 21 till 40years old) who came to enjoy, and everyone is having good time and for me that is so important that as someone who is older like to have a drink where is no one looking at you and thinking what are this old folks doing at the bar !!! The staff who is working are very nice you feel like they know you all life , very professional and they really take good care of you. I didn’t try the food but my friends did and they said it really good , so definitely I am coming again just to try that. The owner who I met later is who worked in industry and then you realize that everything is how it should be. As someone who went in DC in many bars this Bar remind me at DC Reynlods, for the older generation they know that bar like that is not existing any more and yet I found it. I know for sure I am gonna be regular here .

Google
I'm not local so this was a blind stop. The name was attractive, the menu looked sparse but committed to doing my favorite thing correctly-- a good slider. I grew up eating Minneapolis juicy Lucy's, so I have a high bar when it comes to meat and cheese between a bun. This place was a gem to find. The buns are as soft and buttered as they look. Get em smothered to hell and eat like no one is watching. Good music, good people, stylish design. Damn what else is there? The beer is cold. The rhymes are fat. The spray cans are a nice touch. A "Painters Touch" perhaps? Y'all know what I'm talking about! If you know you know!

Yelp
Really nice staff who are so kind and attentive. Definitely a beer and shots place. Don't order a cocktail. Their food is actually pretty good. They have these seasoned fries that are addicting and really good hot dogs. They have a live DJ on the weekends.

Yelp
cool new spot, solid drinks (and priced well), and nice/fun snacks. loved the little sliders, but the hot dogs were great as well. the house punch is solid, the people are awesome, we came on the earlier end but will check out their live DJ's in the future

Yelp
Great new addition to that Adams Morgan area, feels like a breath of fresh air. Came in on thursday for a couple drinks and was pleasantly surprised to walk into a unique experience; There was a full music production happening with multiple DJs, producers and instrumentalists (trumpet, bass, beatboxer) creating together that felt really special. The space was full but comfortable with an early 90s kind of city street vibe full of brick, street art and vintage TVs playing interesting vintage videos. We also dug the "secret door", Apparently they're working on an additional bar in the lower level that's been said to lead into a completely different vibe in the near future. Can't wait. The service was laid back but attentive and the burgers (they call them shorties) were really good, well seasoned lil smash burgers that filled me up. The drink menu was very affordable ($12 for a beer and shot) and the bartender Tim was spot on. They also do "to-go" beer there until 1am, excited to be able to grab a 6 pack or two late night on my walks home now. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Fun spot with playful food presentation, affordable drinks and delicious food. Service was relaxed but attentive and they were kind to my 4 year old and even showed him the secret door! :)

Yelp
i've been to this bar a few time since they've opened. i knew some of the bartenders from when it was Tight Five and was eager to see some familiar faces, however the times i've gone to Legacy HiFi the service from the bartenders and staff novel to me was poor. they were inattentive and very slow every time. the service and bar experience has gone down hill since becoming Legacy HiFi.

Stoked to have this spot in the area. The cocktails are amazing, and the food really surprised me, delicious and well-crafted. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and definitely worth a visit!
