LeGrand Kitchen - Review - Riverview - Norfolk - The Infatuation

"LeGrand Kitchen is the best restaurant in Norfolk. The vibe is quintessentially the 757 on its very best day, cool and unpretentious, effortless and fun, and while on the pricier side, it’s a perfect spot for any situation. Go on a date. Go with your parents. Go with a big group of friends and don’t worry about the short menu, and if there’s a vegan or two in your inner circle, they’ll whip up something incredible that rivals the rest of the seasonal dishes on your table. Or, go alone and order the aptly-named A Really Good Martini and the burger at the bar (just don’t expect fries with that). Treat yourself to LeGrand at least once a year—you, and Norfolk, deserve it." - Alicia Camden

A tiny Riverview “finer diner” where chef Stephen Marsh riffs on Mid-Atlantic produce and turns out a cult burger. Highlighted in Coastal Virginia Magazine’s 2024 Culinary Awards and praised by local critics, it remains a reservation-worthy essential.

We went to LeGrand Kitchen for an evening date and had such a wonderful experience. Our waitress, Allegra, was attentive and made us feel well cared for the entire night. We ordered the burger with potato wedges—perfectly spiced and absolutely delicious. Honestly, it was the best burger we’ve had in a long time! For dessert, we shared the chocolate chip blondie, and it was incredible - definitely something I’d come back for again. Overall, great food, great service, and a cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Love love love. This place is amazing. I personally appreciate the relaxed vibe with high end food!!! Parking is tricky, if you’re not looking, you’ll miss it. The burger is something my husband and I dream about!!!! It’s so so good. I only wish it came with two pickles lol Service is always top tier. We’ve had several of their dishes and drinks, they never disappoint! Thank you for existing and giving us…. THE BURGER!!!!

Good food is healing, and LeGrand Kitchen knows the art of nourishment. The shrimp & grits were flawless—fresh, comforting, and bursting with flavor. The cornbread pudding was golden, sweet, and earthy, the kind of dish that lingers in your memory. The chef’s commitment to quality ingredients and creative execution is undeniable. And while this meal was extraordinary, I’ll definitely be back to try their burger—I’ve heard it’s a masterpiece in its own right. This place is a true gem.

We showed up with no reservation on a Friday evening just a few minutes after they opened, we didn't even think about possibly needing a reservation! There were maybe 2 people in the restaurant so we didn't know what to expect, we didn't know we'd needed to call ahead! The hostess looked at the seating and reservation books for the night and graciously fit us in. I say "fit us in" because within 10 minutes the place started to fill in quick as people started showing up for *their* reservations! Food: We got the grilled cabbage appetizer and the pork belly appetizer, both were delicious! The grilled cabbage was our favorite. My partner got the Legrand Burger and he really enjoyed it. It was a little on the juicy side so be careful! The bottom bun was a but soggy but the flavor was great! I got the steak frite special. The steak was tender and the fingerling potatoes were the perfect size side. The house sodas are so delicious! My partner got the pineapple passionfruit and he had to pace himself so he didn't gulp it all down before the food arrived. Bathrooms: There are 2 single stall bathrooms. They are gender neutral and very clean! There was a nice candle burning in there and a few tampons and toothpicks. Very thoughtful! Overall, super happy with the service and food! Everyone was super friendly. It gets a bit loud as it gets busy but you can still hold a conversation. It's not super romantic, but if those are the vibes you're going for maybe go super early or much later. If you're a single diner or have no more than 4 people you could probably get away with not having reservations if you show up right as they open! Otherwise, you might want to make some reservations ahead of time.

Saturday night dinner for 4. The food was good overall. Burger was excellent, deserves all the praise it gets - super fresh, super hot, excellent ingredients. A lot of love in that burger. The flounder entree was pretty good, no complaints. The issue we had with Le Grand was the service. From the beginning, our server seemed annoyed by us - zero smiles, and practically rolled her eyes when we asked her about the options for kids and vegetarians (even though the menu actually says "ask about our options for kids and vegetarians"!). We observed her standing around a lot, yet she couldn't be bothered to ask us how our meals were, or if we needed anything else. But of course, she managed to be pleasant when dropping off the check, as she hoped for a decent tip. Super disappointing. I might go back to Le Grand if we're in that part of Norfolk again, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Absolutely blown away by Legrand Kitchen! From the first sip of cocktails to the last bite of dessert, every detail was phenomenal. The flavors, presentation, and atmosphere made for an unforgettable dining experience. Each course felt like pure artistry on a plate. Kiss the chef, this place is a true gem!

this place is absolutely amazing. It has been on my radar for two months now. I had to have that burger and that burger was just as good as I anticipated it to be. The bartender made some lovely drinks and was very informative to us about Mezcal as I love Mezcal. The fish of the day was rockfish so that was delicious as well as the lemon dessert we had!!! I highly recommend going ASAP!!☺️. The staff was very friendly and welcoming as well!

Had a wonderful dinner here tonight! The food was excellent, but the service truly made the experience. Our server, Katrina, was absolutely the best! She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. We'll definitely be back, and we'll be asking for Katrina! Highly recommend this spot.
