"Lekka Burger, a vegan burger chain backed by the owner of Michelin-starred vegetarian restaurant Dirt Candy, has closed its remaining locations in New York City. The burger shop closed its original spot on Warren Street in Tribeca this spring, and the website Tribeca Citizen reports that a second location in the Urbanspace food hall in Midtown East is done, too. “We will no longer be operating our restaurant or wholesale business,” Jazz Mace, the restaurant’s manager, says. “Unfortunately, we were not able to recover from the impact of COVID despite our best efforts.” Amanda Cohen, the chef and owner of Dirt Candy, opened Lekka Burger in 2019. Eater called its meatless burgers peak “junk food” in an early review." - Luke Fortney
"Lekka Burger, a vegan burger spot backed by Amanda Cohen, owner of Michelin-starred vegetarian restaurant Dirt Candy, will call it quits on March 29 after three years. The restaurant did not provide a reason for the closure, which was reported by Tribeca Citizen on Friday, but manager Jazz Mace tells the publication that the restaurant, “will be announcing some exciting news in the next month.” Lekka opened in November 2019, and Eater praised its burgers and shakes as peak “junk food” in an early review. A second location, at the Urbanspace food hall in Midtown East, remains open." - Luke Fortney
"Unless a restaurant plans on making its name specifically around its veggie burgers — like Superiority Burger, Bareburger, Lekka Burger, or Burgerlords — imitation meat seems easier for restaurants to serve." - Jaya Saxena
"Chef Amanda Cohen’s hip veggie burger hangout Lekka Burger has reopened for takeout and delivery this week, Tribeca Citizen reports. The restaurant is operating with a truncated menu offering three veggie burger variations, including the popular guacamole burger that Eater critic Ryan Sutton reviewed favorably earlier this year. Sides include a broccolini Caesar salad, cheese, curry, or regular fries, and Lekka’s oat-milk shakes. For now, the fast-casual spot is open with shorter hours, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday." - Erika Adams
