Looking at the negative reviews made me weary to try the place but glad I went with my gut. The crust is light and crunchy, good amount of sauce (and great flavor on it too) and the cheese pulls are solid. Flavor can vary depending on the toppings (the saltier cured meats definitely add a much needed balance to the fattiness of the cheese) but overall the three flavors I tried were delicious. I would rank pepperoni as the top dog though. Service is great, had a long chat with Jose Luis, staff was nice and the ambience reminds of an old school pizza shop in the best way. Will definitely keep coming here if consistency keeps up with my experience today!

I have now been here three times twice on lunch and once for dinner with my family I have to say the dinner experience was awful. It’s the first time I actually ordered a whole pizza instead of getting the slices. We ordered two large pizzas one pepperoni and one sausage six drinks and three salads and it was $80. We went to get our salads and the Worker told us we could only have three toppings on each of our salads. That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard in my life why can’t I have more toppings they cost you $.10 each for the salad and I just spent $80. I forgot about the no cheese and no peppers at your seat. You literally have to get your slice of pizza up from your table and go to a station to put Parmesan or peppers on your pizza slice it’s so weird. The worst part about it is the pizza was oily and tasted like Casey’s pizza but flattened to resemble New York style pizza grease was everywhere and it just wasn’t very good. I won’t be back. They also had half the restaurant blocked off with chairs and “caution slippery floor” signs I think because they just didn’t want to clean half the restaurant so my kids had to climb over chairs to access the arcade games which by the way mostly didn’t work and kept eating their money. I’m surprised this place stays open in Johnson County.

Google
Great pizza. Just one annoyance: a single topping slice is listed in their electronic menu board for $3.99, but it rings up at $4.96. How is that possible? "Oh, the prices have gone up." It's weird that it's just explained away as just one of those things. I mean, it's 50 cents, but the point remains that it's false and misleading. It has a bait and switch feeling. Can't the board be updated so there's no confusion?

Google
I’m a sucker for a good NY Style pizza by the slice. At first glance it looked the part, but WOW was disappointed. They really need to take a trip to NYC to see what NY Style pizza by the slice is like. The slices were doughy, not crispy at all. The edge of the crust was not crispy either. The sauce was extremely bland and the cheese tasted like it was out of a bag. The pepperoni tastes like it’s out of a bag as well. This might be considered good in Overland Park, KS but I couldn’t even finish the slices. I tried but I just couldn’t do it. What a waste of money. I would rather make the 30 minutes drive to Lawerence, KS to the Big Mill, it’s not NY style but their Detroit style taste and execution blows this place away. If you are craving good pizza with flavor and great ingredients go somewhere else. I should have taken my own advice. STAY AWAY FROM PLACES THAT TRY TO SERVE TOO MAMY ITEMS. I DON’T WANT MY PIZZA PLACE TO DO CHEESE STEAKS etc. The menu is too big, I bet they don’t make one thing good, just a bunch of low quality offerings. Save your money and stay away.

Google
You can never go wrong with this place. The pizza is delicious and the price is great. My daughter absolutely loves the cheese pizza — and they’re huge, which is a big plus. I definitely recommend this spot to any pizza lover.

Google
Got garlic toast cheese bread, was still soft and not toasted at all. As well, it was soaked in garlic butter. And the pizza tasted like plastic. I used to love originals, but now it’s not the same.

Google
Food was great! The Italian guy is my favorite. He goes out and talks to the customers and greets as many as he can. All the people in there have great attitudes and then deliver great food. Once I have kids I’m definitely bringing them here.

Google
Finally, my search has ended! Authentic New York style pizza that is perfection. Placed an online order, picked up at the shop and all the gentlemen behind the counter were friendly and engaging. I was happy to wait for the mozzarella sticks cooked on arrival and the pizzas had steam coming from the box when I put them in the car. Lunch was delicious. Please start a call back list for the lemon cake :-) Yours Truly, Customer for life

Yelp
The pizza is really good! I bought 2 large pizzas, one pepperoni $26 one sausage, half side with black olives $27. The prices on the website are not the same as in-store. With tax & tip, it was $63 for 2 pizzas. That's a lot for 2 pizzas!! You can buy by the slice. There's a few old school video games. Lots of tables to eat there. Looked clean. People working there were friendly enough & it was well staffed.

Yelp
We love Original Pizza. We've been coming here for years and always get perfect pizza and service. The restaurant is clean, and the staff is so nice. I miss working close by so I could come more often. The reviews being below 4 starts surprises me, as we've always had amazing experiences.

Yelp
I cannot believe it's taken me this long to write a review for these guys. And I absolutely am dumbfounded by their overall score being so low. As y'all know I'm a bit of a pizza snob. Coming from NY, home to the greatest pizza in the world (that's right Naples, I said it) I set a high bar. And this place meets it. Is it exactly like home? No, but no place outside the Tri-State area will be. It's all in the water. NYC water may be dirty, but it makes for tasty pizza. And Leone's also makes a tasty pizza. This place ain't like the other Original Pizzas in the KC metro area. Everyone assumes that the Original Pizzas are a chain. While Jack Leone started out partners with Vito and Sal, at some point the three split and each pizzeria is its own. Walking in to this pizzeria and it feels like walking into one back home. You can order a whole pie or just a slice. They have sandwiches and cannolis. All the comforts of home are right here. And the counter people are always friendly and provide great service.

Yelp
Great NY style. Like the cheese and pepperoni particularly. Large menu. Could use a bigger beer selection though.

Yelp
Had never stopped before, great pizza, and great service. Had a large variety of options, spacious restaurant. Can't wait to come back and try more pizza!

Yelp
Leone's has been almost my go-to lunch location since I started working nearby. I'm hardly a block away from there! Their pizza is one of the best I've ever eaten and beats a lot of the local places - better than average joes like Dominos and Papa Johns; better than Papa Kenos and Minskys. I usually order their pizzas since their salads are good but not great. I prefer the preparation to Panera's which has a further location and uses plastic packaging - I would prefer Leone's to help the environment. I do have the salad occasionally and have also tried their spaghetti. There's also a great atmosphere with plenty of seating and several pinball and arcade machines. Since I've been coming regularly, the employees are polite and recognize me whenever I come. If there's one thing I would change, which isn't the place's fault so not to affect the rating, it's the intersection by the place. It's easy to turn into the area where it is from Antioch. However, the intersection between Antioch and - search - Mackey Street lacks turn signal lights so one has to pay attention to which cars are coming from the opposite direction. It's a little more congested since I first started coming since they opened a big QuikTrip in the same area. But the place and above all the pizza is worth the trip!

Yelp
Pizza was a bit old, but we got there 45 minutes before closing. We got a few pieces to eat there and some to go, paying full price. When we offered to buy their leftovers that would otherwise be thrown away, their unbelievably rude manager started yelling at us, stopping just short of cussing us out. Avoid this place at all costs.

Yelp
A native NY'er here...and I have to say, this pizza is pretty close to NY pizza. I would say it's slightly doughier and the crust under the cheese could be a little thicker and crusty/crispier, but overall it would have fooled me! You can also buy it by the slice... which is how we roll in NYC! Needless to say, this is a nice slice of home, and is where I will be getting my pepperoni pizza from now on. I also think the inside of the shop feels really authentically New York-y. S---y table and chairs, and old ass shakers, which is really like home, but you gotta let people take em' to their tables, bro....plastic shakers, salt, pepper, and oregano are pretty damn cheap. Usually people in NY will stop by, grab a slice, eat in and go. You can do this here, but the mall that this shop is in is not very busy like a pizzeria on a NYC street, so I would recommend tremendously sizing down.... and saving that money on rent. That way it'll be a small hole in the wall just like we've got in NY and you can stop spending your profits on all that square footage that doesn't really get used anyway!

Yelp
Worst experience! I put a carry out order in and guy helping has no place in any retail environment. He had no clue what was going on and couldn't help me with any questions and was very rude. Another kid came over and same thing. Nobody knows what's going on. I wasn't the only one shaking my head. Not sure what's going on over there! F-

Yelp
My favorite place for pizza in the greater KC area. Lots of choices. Fast service. Quality pizza. Best NY style pizza outside of NYC and Jersey that I've had.

SimDog

Yelp
Worst wings I have ever had. They were overcooked, under seasoned and had what I believe was the wrong sauce. If that was the buffalo sauce, it is also terrible. Very disappointed in the wings. Pizza was solid though.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is pretty good. Not amazing, but it's good. I personally would prefer more sauce. A lot of the slices didn't have hardly any sauce on them. So next time, I might just order extra sauce. The mozzarella sticks and fried ravioli were good as well. Overall, didn't blow our mind, but it arrived hot, and was decently good.

Yelp
Original pizza is a nice neighborhood pizza joint for when you don't want to deal and of the big guys. Dishing out New York style pies the slices are huge and they even offer Sicilian crust for when you want a change of pace. It's by no means the greatest pizza you'll ever have but it's a pretty solid pizza option.

Tony W.

Yelp
This is the best pizza in the metro. New York style, giant slices, phenomenal taste.
google avatar

Yelp
If the pizza was square, most of the experience here would seem like 90s high school cafeteria. The lunch attendants are less than thrilled to be working there, just slap the pizza on a paper plate and keep everyone moving down the line. Got the cafeteria seating; some tables with only a few chairs for the emos over here and then the nerds over there, then some long tables with a bunch of chairs for the preps and jocks. High School is so boring, sometimes you have that inattentive gaze off to the side of the room and day dream of playing video games. Was that the bell? I gotta get to class, I didn't even finish my lunch, but whatever...

Yelp
Best New York style pizza in the metro. Crust has the perfect chew, great toppings. Huge fan!

Yelp
Pizza I got today was alright alittle bland , kind of gross for pizza actually nothing wow for me. I used to like this place but the pizza I got today was not so tasty had to put it in the air fryer cause they barely warmed it up. It's the pizza they leave on the table and they just rewarm it up... fresh is better or frozen pizza would of been way better . Two okay sized pizzas for 13 bucks with a large drink kind of pricey ...

Yelp
After moving from Long Island New York to Topeka we spent the first year trying to find a decent pizza place. After we finally gave up with my daughter in tears that she will never have good pizza again she was determined to find a NY Pizza and found the reviews for originals. I drove from Topeka to Overland Park to try their pizza and let me say it was worth the trip. I think I may be the only customer that drives an hour for their pizza but that first bite I say ahh it's the closest thing to NY we have found.

Meredith S.

Yelp
Pizza was good but the sauce is very limited and there was a lot of crust on the edge. I would eat here again, but I wouldn't drive across the city to do so.

Chris B.

Yelp
Great food love the old school feel back again and again best pizza in town 10/10 love it

Yelp
I got persuaded into ordering from here tonight for my family. The reviews looked ok, if not good, but I was pretty disappointed. There's a lot of hype for this place, nostalgia I guess (I also remember eating at the mall when I was a kid!), so I thought it was going to be better. Really though, It's pretty much what I would expect for Mall pizza. There was nothing special about it. I got a single slice while the rest of my family all got their own small pizzas. Theirs obviously spent more time in the oven than mine, the vegetables and the cheese on mine were barely melted/cooked. Even the kids thought it was just ok, and they're pretty easy to please when it comes to pizza. We did get a lot of pizza for the money vs other places, but I would choose pizza elsewhere next time.
google avatar

Renata B.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch and it wasn't bad. I got a salad with a roll and my husband got their philly. While the salad was good the rest of the food wasn't that impressive. I will say his sandwich was way better than the roll I got. My roll had been sitting out as it was kind of dry and the chicken was hard unfortunately.

Yelp
Sadly I keep forgetting that his place is there! I have enjoyed Original pizza since is was in Metro North Mall next to the Theater that was IN the mall. Yes that was a really long time ago! Original Pizza makes this thing called a Stromboli... which is reminiscent of a calzone but they don't put sauce in it. Just the meats and chesses! Then give you a cup of sauce to dip in. It is glorious! This place is old... expect that. It has been serving pizza for a long time and it is way more cafeteria than even a pizza hut or dominios. It is perfect to stop in and grab a slice for lunch. Or if you have the family that can't agree on the type of pizza to get. The slices are the big New York style floppies that you fold over and eat like a pizza roll. Take time to try this one out... then hop on and give your review!

Craig M.

Yelp
Regular customer disappointed by negative attitude of staff. Have lunch there 5 times a month. Not happening again. First time I've ever selected the no tip option, still feel bad about that action. Needed to happen, going to miss you guys!
google avatar

Daniel Z.

Yelp
First time here. I really enjoyed the option of picking a slice and there were several options available. I had a slice of sausage & pepperoni and a slice of pepperoni. Really like the size and the crust was very good. Tad lite on the sausage but the overall flavor was very good. I also had a side salad which comes with 3 toppings (olives, peppers, pepperoni, 3 cheeses, cucumber salad , croutons and bacon bits) and Italian dressing . Definitely a great place for lunch at a good price. Service at the counter was good.

Todd K.

Yelp
Pizza was good. Just not enough sauce in my opinion. Delivery was prompt and hassle free.

Jon W.

Yelp
Pretty good NY style pizza ruined by a rude little prick young manager with gauge earrings. The guy acts like he's doing you a favor by taking your order. What a detriment to your place, Mr Leone! Oh, and they're really proud of the ONE shaker of crushed red pepper -generic brand - with a broken lid that looks like it's 17 years old. As for the other seasoning, "Don't take shakers to the table!"
google avatar

Tea L.

Yelp
The pizza is great but we were just turned off by the workers not being able to keep their masks on properly and pulling them down to talk to each other. One even kept his below his nose.
google avatar

Kimberly G.

Yelp
We wanted pizza for dinner on National Pizza Day, because who wouldn't want pizza on the day meant for pizza eating? The only time we had ever had original pizza prior, was from the food court at the mall. We knew we liked their pizza so we decided to try their actual restaurant location. They have the options to get single slices, or a whole pie. We ordered a cheese pizza, and I also got a side salad. I was able to choose what toppings as well as the dressing for my salad which I was not expecting at all. Our total was right around $20, which is pretty nice for an entire large pizza! About 5 minutes after we checked out and sat ourselves at a table, our pizza came out. Overall the pizza is pretty good, but we found the cheese on the pizza extremely chewy rather than melty. They also have a variety of arcade games in the back of the place, so there is something to keep the kids busy while you wait for your pizza.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem. It is hands down my favorite pizza in Kansas City. It's is the closest to New York Style that you can find locally. It's simple and delicious every time. The staff is friendly and warm. I would order to go if you are not coming in for lunch. The ambiance is a little lacking, but it's ok because you don't usually eat pizza in the restaurant.
google avatar

K A.

Yelp
Best pizza in Kansas, hands down! Been eating it for yearsssss and even though I moved away I still come back and make sure I have it once or twice while I'm in town. Never change or leave!

Julie H.

Yelp
Came here based on the reviews. Pizza was so so. However, the customer service was horrible. They sell pizza by the slice so you assume a slice of cheese pizza would be available. They brought out the families order, but no slice of cheese. They hadn't even started to make it. 15 minutes later they brought it out. The staff was rude and constantly gave us dirty looks. We spoke to the manager who quite honestly could not have cared less. We will not be back.
google avatar

Hugo D.

Yelp
As all reasonable people know, New York-style pizza is the best pizza out there. Original Pizza makes New York-style pizza, and it is easily the best pizza in KC. Get the Combo. It won't disappoint.

Isabella H.

Yelp
great pizza. great service. that pizza boy with middle part is delicious you should put him on the menu as the next special!!!
google avatar

Josh C.

Yelp
I'm actually gonna blow up I help you with place is. Fantastic crest, friendly staff, good price, etc.

Yelp
Love this place! Giant crispy slices with the "good ranch"! Always stop by when I'm visiting KC!

Yelp
Let's start with the bad, and that is that this location is no longer Original Pizza. It is now Leone Original Pizza and you can find their website here: https://www.leoneoriginalpizza.com/#/. After bragging about this place to friends recently, we went there on 12/17/18, and were we disappointed. The pizza is the reason to go, but on this trip, they didn't prepare it as before. There was very little sauce on my slice, or my wife's mushroom slice, and there was no cheese sprinkled around the slice over my added black olives as before. Just some black olives thrown on the slice, bare and naked. And we didn't recognize any of the people manning the cook area. All new to us. The accompanying salad was OK, so that was the good of this review. But the bottom line is that the changes we saw are enough for us to write off this venue as a favorite pizza in town. They shouldn't have messed with a good thing. Maybe one of their other locations serves up the best pizza in town, but this isn't one of them. My opinion.

Yelp
So disappointing, a customer for years Metcalf south to blue springs...was suprised to find one close by ...grub hub did great but the order beef, onions mushrooms and fresh tomatoes. Could NOT taste any beef, tried calling no answer, called again...grub hub finally helped me get in touch...had to argue with the jackass who made it who argued that the beef was under the cheese. Saw minute pieces maybe 4 specs a piece and a $30 beef pizza should have beef. After arguing had to remake pizza so I waited, a good hour wasted...can never trust them again...pick it up and check it...damn, what a shame....won't order delivery from them again
google avatar

Yelp
Simply true NY Pizza. Everyone else is just a wannabe. This location is my favorite of all of the Original Pizza's. Not just cause Tony's Brooklyn accent makes you feel nostalgic of NY. but simply because the ovens are almost 40 years. And everyone knows old ovens make the best pizza. The cheese pizza alone in my opinion destroys any pizza with any toppings anywhere else. Not to mention the Gyro sandwich, although not the most authentic one out there, for some reason taste strangely addictive. My wife regularly craves them. she's also a huge fan of their veggie pizza. Also a thing of beauty is the wonderful crust the pizza here has. I mean to get crust any better, you might need to literally cut Lombardi's out of the ground and ship the whole building to KC. Don't be a stranger and try some mind-blowing pizza. FYI, they also have pizza by the slice. (And they have cannoli's!)
google avatar

Steve D.

Yelp
The lunch special, which included a large slice of pizza, a large salad, and a drink was $6.99. The combo pizza slice was delicious! The toppings were plentiful, the cheese and sauce were flavorful, and the crust was not too doughy, not too crispy, but just right. The salad was substantial, and the ingredients were fresh. The employees were friendly, and the interior was clean and spacious.
google avatar

Kristen L.

Yelp
Lives up to the hype. Loved it! Crust, sauce, cheese all right on for ny style. The main reason I can't give this place 5 stars is cleanliness. Yes I know it's more of a local dive and floors get dirty in a busy restaurant around dinner hour. However see a large hole in the wall and huge spider web in the ladies room was really what put it over the edge for me. I can't not see those things and really wonder how if the kitchen is really clean. There's certainly room for improvement in this area. I do think I'll be back because the pizza really was that good. It was obvious this place has a following as almost every other person who came in while we were there knew the guys behind the counter. So that's respectable in my mind. Be sure to visit their website for a $3 off coupon
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
Absolutely love !!!! Its east coast size fold in half kind, just the plain cheese is my absolute favorite, huge size for price
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
Pretty good pizza. A little more expensive than most pizza places, but worth it. Wish they had banana peppers.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Well I dont know how we have never eaten at the place but what a gem. It has been there for almost 40 years. I had the two piece lunch special, with one slice of Sicilian thick and one slice of regular, I liked them both but the thick was my favorite. Will definitely go back, I do wish they would tidy up the bathroom.

Gracie S.

Yelp
Not one to ever make a review but the customer service here is very poor and it's not sanitary. They yelled at one another as if it was only them in the store, had an attitude the whole time he took our order, kept touching their hair and face and would go back to making food while not wearing any gloves.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
One of the workers was highly condescending, rude, and impatient when my fiancé and I went to make an order, and for no apparent reason. He acted like he wanted us to get out of there and that we were a bother and nuisance. The condescending rudeness was palpable and shocked me. I have been going to hundreds of restaurants in multiple states for decades and never encountered this degree of rudeness at any restaurant in all those years. I almost called management to complain about the worker, but decided it wasn't worth my time. I confirm other reviewers on Yelp who said that the workers at Original's often drop f-bombs and swear on a regular basis, which is not appropriate, especially for children. If management would allow such lack of professionalism and swearing in front of customers on a regular basis, I'm not sure if they would care if their workers treat customers with condescending disrespect. When I have the munchies for pizza, I'm now going to Rosati's Chicago pizza around the corner from Originals because they treat their customers better. I rate the pizza at Original's pizza 5/5, but I rate their customer service and professionalism 1/5, and that ruins it.
google avatar

BadChad E.

Yelp
Fantastic quality! Our whole family enjoys eating here at least once a week. Salad is simple but taste great. I usually get the 2 slice special. Always satisfied!!! The atmosphere is unique and worth the stop.
google avatar

Charles S.

Yelp
The best New York style pizza I have had this far away from New York. It has the soul of a neighborhood pizzeria but cleaner and little nicer. It's a good place to eat your lunch and go, or even have an extended meeting.
google avatar

Deborah M.

Yelp
After looking at a whole bunch of pizza places that looked a lot more classy and hip, I came across original pizza and decided on the low-key atmosphere to take my four-year-old. The pizza was exactly what I remember when I was a kid and my picky child loved it. However there's no way that I can give more than two stars when the atmosphere is so subpar that it's disgusting. It also looks like they've attempted a remodel in the bathrooms and had hired the cheapest contractor available. There was plenty of conversation, including inappropriate comments in front of customers, between several of the workers and a group of six kids that came in to dine. There definitely needs to be more manager supervision at this establishment. This place is not worth coming back (even for the pizza which wasn't bad).
