Yelp
Le's Baguette Bahn Mi is excellent.
Located down the street from one of my all time favorite restaurants, I only discovered Le's because of Yelp. Shout out to Jen L. for cluing me into this spot because I loved it.
My visit to Le's was to place, and pickup, a to-go order. I arrived around 11 and the place was empty. That was a huge plus for me because it meant I was in and out in just a few minutes. The space itself is rather narrow with a small dining room on the right side as you enter. Despite that layout, the tables seemed well spaced from one another. I am rarely in this area of the city for long, but I could totally see eating in without feeling cramped.
Service was fast and friendly.
The food ranged from really great to holly mackerel what is this amazing bite of food. Here is what I tried:
Shrimp Bahn Mi - Shrimp remoulade and slaw on a bahn mi baguette is a genius discovery. I know lots of people make shrimp remeoulade po-boys, but the baguette here (I am assuming from Dong Phuong) kicks the mundane remoulade po-boy into high gear. That extra bit of crunch with the creamy remoulade is delicious.
Lemongrass Pork Bahn Mi- Wow. I've had a lot of grilled pork when eating Vietnamese food. The pork here may be the best I've had. The smokey pork paired so perfectly with the veggies and jalapenos that I wanted another one. If left to choose between the two bahn mi, the pork wins every freakin time.
Pork Belly Bao - Ok. If you only read one thing in my review, read this. My first bite of this bao was pure heaven. After eating it I said (out loud to no one in particular); " that is the best single bite of 2017". It was that good. As I continued eating it I did encounter some chewy pieces of belly that weren't great, but overall, this was a great dish. Get two with a pork bahn mi.
Parking is street only and I had to make the block a few times to find a spot. Since I usually grab and go this is an issue, but if you're dining in just park somewhere and walk.
Prices for the bahn mi were more than Dong Phuong, but I think the $8 is still fair.
If you lie Vietnamese sandwiches, you owe it to yourself to check out Le's.
