"Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois put Megève on the map when the Rothschild family opened its doors in the 1920s, but the property got a top-to-bottom design overhaul a few years ago when it joined the Four Seasons portfolio. The 41 rooms are decked out in a mix of rustic and bohemian design, and suites are spread across three traditional wooden chalets. There are indoor-outdoor pools, a spa, several on-site restaurants (La Table de Noémie offers a fine dining twist on classic Savoyard fare), and close access to the Mont d’Arbois slopes. If there’s anything you can’t do or find here, the resort’s sister property up the road, the Four Seasons Megève, will certainly be able to deliver (including a new outpost of chef Anne-Sophie Pic’s excellent Dame de Pic – Le 1920 restaurant)." - Lindsey Tramuta

A Disappointing Stay – Far from a 5-Star Experience We had high expectations for Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois, given its reputation and the price point. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of what one would expect from a true luxury hotel. 1. A Lack of True Luxury From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the underwhelming decor and ambiance, which did not reflect the level of refinement and sophistication expected of a five-star establishment. At €950 per night, we anticipated a stay that exuded elegance and comfort, yet the rooms lacked the attention to detail and craftsmanship that define true luxury hospitality. The bathroom design was particularly disappointing, with poor hygiene standards and a complete lack of practicality—each shower left the floor flooded, making it uncomfortable and inconvenient. The spa facilities were also misleading. The promotional images suggested an inviting and tranquil retreat, but in reality, the space was surprisingly small, offering only a few lounge chairs. With so many guests, there was little opportunity to truly relax. The pool water was uncomfortably cold, making it an impractical option for unwinding. 2. Disorganized and Unaccommodating Service One of the most frustrating aspects of our stay was the lack of professional service. Breakfast was extremely limited, offering little more than eggs and bread—far from the lavish selection expected at a five-star resort. Communication was a struggle, as many of the staff did not speak English. Rather than making an effort to assist us, they seemed frustrated by our requests, which made the experience even more uncomfortable. The concierge service was ineffective. When we requested a restaurant reservation, we were assured that a message had been sent. However, there was no follow-up, no confirmation, and no alternative suggestions. When we inquired again, we were simply told to go to the restaurant ourselves and see if they could accommodate us—a response that was astonishingly unprofessional for a hotel of this caliber. 3. Lack of Accountability and Guest Care The most disheartening aspect of our stay was the complete lack of guest care when we decided to shorten our trip due to our dissatisfaction. We informed reception of our concerns and were told that management would be in touch—yet no one followed up. The next morning, no one at reception was even aware of our request. When a staff member finally spoke to the manager, he walked past us without a word, displaying a level of indifference that was truly disappointing. Instead of making any attempt to remedy the situation, the receptionist simply stated that a refund was not possible due to hotel policy, adding a dismissive “Thanks for your understanding.” There was no acknowledgment of our concerns, no offer to improve our experience, and certainly no effort to uphold the service standards of a five-star hotel. Final Thoughts – A Hotel That Does Not Live Up to Its Reputation Adding to the misleading expectations, many sources claim this hotel is managed by Four Seasons, yet we learned upon arrival that this is not the case. This only compounded our disappointment, as the level of service and hospitality was nowhere near the standard we expected. For travelers seeking a seamless luxury experience, this hotel is not the right choice. The lack of organization, poor service, and failure to meet even the basic standards of a five-star property made this a regrettable stay. We had hoped for a refined and memorable experience, but instead, we were left with a deep sense of dissatisfaction. Would we return? Absolutely not.

Disappointing Experience – Not a True 5-Star Hotel We had high expectations for Les Chalets du Mont D’ Arboirs, especially given that it claims to be managed by the Four Seasons. Unfortunately, our experience was far from luxurious and certainly not what one would expect from a 5-star establishment. 1. Breakfast – Limited Options & Poor Service • The breakfast selection was extremely limited, not meeting the standard of a luxury hotel. • The coffee was terrible, and when we tried to communicate in English, which is a universal language, the waiter did not understand us, making it difficult to enjoy our meal. 2. Concierge – Unhelpful & Unprofessional • We asked the concierge to book a restaurant, and she claimed she had sent a message but never followed up. • When we chased her for an update, she casually said the restaurant did not respond. She didn’t even bother calling to check. Instead, she told us to go directly and try our luck. This is not the level of service expected from a luxury concierge. 3. Room Service – Completely Incompetent • We requested chamomile tea but were sent verbena instead. • When we called reception to fix the mistake, they told us to call room service ourselves—for two teabags. This level of service is shocking in a so-called 5-star hotel. 4. Lack of Luxury & False Advertising • The hotel claims to be managed by the Four Seasons, but the experience felt nowhere near that level. • The spa and gym facilities are misleading—far from the high standards advertised. 5. Poor Cleanliness & Disorganization • There was a noticeable lack of cleaning in the hotel. • The staff seemed disorganized and disconnected—there were many employees, yet no proper coordination or teamwork. 6. Terrible Customer Service & Unresolved Issues • We decided to shorten our stay due to our negative experience. • We went to reception to discuss the situation, and the receptionist promised to speak with management but never got back to us. • The next morning, no one knew about our request. When another receptionist finally spoke to the manager, he walked past us without saying a word. • Instead of addressing our concerns, they coldly informed us that a refund was not possible due to hotel policy. The receptionist then said, “Thanks for your understanding.” But did they even try to understand our situation? Or was it just a generic, dismissive response? Final Verdict If you are looking for a true 5-star luxury experience, avoid this hotel. It lacks proper service, organization, and attention to detail. This was an extremely disappointing stay, and we do not recommend Les Chalets du Mont D’ Arboirs in Megève.

Firstly, I was surprised to learn that Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois is no longer a Four Seasons property. Many guests, myself included, may choose this hotel expecting the high standards synonymous with the Four Seasons brand, only to find the experience far from comparable. The hotel is significantly overrated when considering the standard of service and facilities provided. Key concerns include: • Kids Club: The advertised kids club is essentially an empty space, lacking qualified staff to supervise or engage children effectively. • Spa Facilities: The spa was disappointing, with a non-functional sauna and an unheated pool. • Reception Staff: The reception team was neither polite nor proactive in ensuring a pleasant stay, which was disheartening. • Agency Booking Issues: I booked through an agency, yet the hotel did not respect the commission arrangement, which reflects poorly on professionalism. Overall, the service, amenities, and management do not justify the premium reputation or cost of this hotel. Regrettably, I will not consider returning to Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois in the future, nor can I recommend it to others.

A perfect place for vacation, especially if planning for a ski trip, close to slopes in a calm area, not very far from the city center. It has a bit of an acoustic problem between rooms, you can hear others walking, talking, playing music....the staff is so friendly and helpful. Recommended if looking for a nice and calm vacation

Great venue, ideal location for family holidays in a very comfortable hotel. The decoration is quite charming mixing old style of Rotshild family & modern artefacts. Cosy bar with original cocktails, gastronomic restaurant Ame, SPA for the parents.Kids club for the children. The staff is very attentive to tour wishes. This place definitely delivers on its promises. Thanks again!!

This place is a disaster. They promise 5 star experience but it’s barely worth 2 stars. Service is horrible - could not get breakfast before skiing - and that’s the least of their issues. Very snarky front desk personnel. The only plus, if there is one, is the shuttle service to/from town. Would definitely not recommend. I shared my thoughts with management and they said it’s a new staff they are training. Not sure why I am paying for a high price hotel experience for them to use as training.

We recently checked into Suite Alice at this hotel, and unfortunately, our experience has not met expectations. The suite is advertised as a two-bedroom accommodation suitable for a family with three children. However, upon arrival, we were surprised to find that one room contains a standard double bed, while the second room has no traditional bed at all—just a sofa bed that converts to a bed using a metal frame and an uncomfortable mattress. While the staff is making an effort to assist guests, it appears they may lack the training expected in a five-star hotel setting. Additionally, we encountered significant delays with room service, with food arriving after an hour and forty minutes, and the quality of the food was disappointing. It is worth noting that communication from the suite is limited, as only the reception can be contacted from the room. Our experience has led us to feel that this hotel does not align with the positive reviews we found online. Unfortunately, we have come to realize that these reviews may have been misleading, especially given that the hotel was previously part of the Four Seasons brand until last this season. Overall, our first night here has fallen far short of our expectations I will come with updates and pictures. Updates: stuff are most of them not speaking English, lack of experience and definitely have nothing to do in a 5* hotel. Food from room service is horrible and my husband got food poisoning something really bad for a hotel like this. Don't get fooled by the pictures. Spa and kids playing room horrible as well.

This place was amazing until I left it. The day I got back to my country I realized I forgt my dyson hair dryer in the drower in the bathroom of our room. I called the hotel and I was confident 100% they will find it and I will get it back. It is a precious gift and I like it so much. The claimed nothing was found in the room and this hit me badly. The experience of the hotel was totally damaged by this incident. Anywhere in the world when we accidentally forget something they call us or they return it the minute we call. It’s really shameful. We had a plan to repeat the experience next year .. after this we will consider another beautiful place in Megeve.
