PLUSES: ||Lovely idyllic location ||Free bikes ||Beautiful surrounding area to explore ||Some kind and very hard working staff, such as Xavier at breakfast and Cyrille who handled the luggage, the pool towels and guests’ cars. Both of these staff members are so polite, super efficient and very respectful and friendly. ||NEGATIVES: ||Reception staff are polite yet passively hostile. Any request is met with a delay and a lot of difficulty. ||No English speaking tv. Although many of the films/dramas are American and or British, they have all been changed to German-speaking and even Russian-speaking voices. Although we asked for an engineer to work on our tv to find a subtitle facility, after four days, we were told this wasn’t possible and instead given dvds - again mainly French. ||No food served around pool -only nuts and olives. No food served after 2.30pm. After that, you gave to wait for dinner. Food in all three restaurants is highly buttered and salty. ||Breakfast variety is very limited for a supposed five-star hotel. Unless you like to eat lots of bread, muffins and cakes you will be disappointed. Although they do offer cooked eggs, bacon and sausage, the food takes ages to arrive and the eggs are generally under-cooked. Although they are happy to re-do them for you, the whole saga becomes quite tiring after a while. Xavier does so much to keep everyone happy. If only there were more Xaviers! ||Anne Laure, one of the female directors, seemed particularly hostile and very unfriendly. On one occasion, a very dear old man had fallen in the the grounds just outside reception. He was bleeding from the side of his head. I rushed over to him and gently spoke to him. As he lay on his side on the stone ground I asked a staff member to fetch a cushion for him to support his back as he was lying rather precariously. I then put the cushion behind him so that he could be more comfortable lying on his side. As I stayed with him gently making conversation, an older lady/employee with grey hair appeared. She stood over him and made no attempt to help him and neither did she show any concern. I since found out that her name is Anne Laure. After standing there she then left and returned with two white face clothes. I thought she was giving them to him so that he could wipe the blood from his face. Instead she ordered a staff member to lift the man’s head and place the white face towel under him so that he didn’t bleed on the hotel cushion. I immediately looked at her in disbelief. Not only had this 90-year-old-man suffered a head injury, he was now being made to feel like he was an inconvenience. I felt so utterly embarrassed for him and I also felt deeply disgusted by Ms Laure’s behaviour. Not only did she show absolutely no empathy toward the elderly gentleman’s predicament she also cared very little about the potential damage she could have caused him by moving him in order to protect hotel property! Fortunately the man in question was allowed to return to the hotel after going to hospital and having stitches. Nonetheless, memories of Ms Laure’s very unprofessional and deeply uncaring behaviour toward the gentleman shall remain with me for always. ||Sadly, this stuffy kind of personality type seemed to be rather prevalent amongst a number of the female staff. That said, Ms Laure certainly takes 1st place in that department. ||Would we return? No! In my opinion, this establishment is an over-priced five-star hotel without any real substance. It’s a bit like a shiny button, pretty to look. Full stop.
