On the Grid : Li-Lac Chocolates

"Li-Lac Chocolates is Manhattan’s oldest chocolate house. In business since 1923, they have a selection of more than 140 chocolates. Every chocolate is handmade in New York in Industry City. I personally recommend their 72% chocolate bar. It’s a good blend of sweet, smooth, and rich goodness. Fun fact: their life-size heel mold is as old as the store itself." - Alisha Austin

Google
Vladimir was wonderful. He gave us a little taste of chocolate. It was out of this world made us go inside and buy some more. This place is wonderful. They are very helpful and the chocolate is amazing.

Google
The chocolate-y smell of this place is heavenly. A chocolate lover’s dream. Delicious everything but our favorite are the chocolate covered orange peels. Next door to the shop is a window where there are holiday themed chocolate “sculptures”.

Google
Chocolates and it’s of it. Had a few pretty good. Some cool displays inside and out. Had to leave or else I’d buy a giant statue of chocolate and eat it right there. Maybe next time i will. But id need to be pretty hungry. And have a glass of milk.

Google
Very nice chocolate shop where you can watch the chocolate being made. The chocolates are beautiful, but expensive. I wish the store had samples. There were chocolates I would have bought if I had been able to taste the flavors first.

Google
Great chocolate shop! I definitely wish some of the pricing was a little more affordable but the quality is great.

Google
Great chocolate factory and store! Amazingly good tasting chocolate made fresh on premise. Molds for any type of occasion. Free samples. they also offer chocolate making tours which is a fun activity for families. Worth the visit when in the neighborhood.

Yelp
i went in to browse. my friend asked where the bon bons were and the guy in the store asked "which one?" my friend and the guy had a small back and forth where the dude sounded irritated. i loudly clarified what my friend meant then the guy replied "oh, here" and gestured at the display case. i couldn't tell if he was having a bad day or didn't know he sounded annoyed my friend told the guy what we wanted then as the guy packed it up softly asked "anything else?" my friend didn't hear him so he asked to clarify and the guy replied in an annoyed voice. he was nice after the transaction was made but the overall vibe of the interaction was that the guy was annoyed. he seemed so annoyed while we were in there that i second guessed if we should even be purchasing anything but they have some interesting new bon bon flavors!! i'm on a chocolate kick these days so we got two bon bons: chocolate bourbon and orange pecan. their other new flavors are matcha passion fruit, citrus pineapple, chai tea honey, and pistachio strawberry (this one was sold out!). the exterior is really cute, with large framed windows like i'm looking into a house. the inside of the store is a decent size and they've filled it with chocolate. the chocolate smell is strong upon walking in. looking past the displays i can see the equipment where the chocolates are made which is cool. the vibe inside is part homey store and part industrial ... which makes sense at industry city lol. inaccessible to customers is the assembly line to the left of the store. there are large windows that customers can look into and watch production but everything was off when i was there

Yelp
I saw this place on some kind of TV program and it was my bucketlist so it was super exciting when I encounter this place when I walk down from Japan Village. Great surprise! kids were amazed by their decorative big chocolate on show window display, and the chocolate machines you can see from the window. We all went into the store. All chocolates were cute but super expensive. So each of us picked what we wanted, two each, from the chocolate display. We bought two chocolate covered orange peels, one chocolate covered marshmallows, two milk chocolate pops, one bar of white chocolate, and two peanut butter cups. It was 20 dollars for everything. Not too bad but now we all have to really enjoy these little by little. haha Great experience to shop at Brooklyn based chocolatier. Updates The chocolate is super smooth and tasty! Our number one favorite was milk chocolate covered orange peel. Peanut Cup was ok. I wish it had more salt.

Yelp
We were in the area for the hot sauce expo and discovered this place exploring the industry buildings. They have NY themed and seasonal shaped chocolates displayed to capture costumers attention. It's kind of an eye sore the way you can see the factory boxes everywhere but at least you can conclude everything is hand made. Some items were way too pricey. We tried a chocolate bar, cherry cardinals, white chocolate, and assorted truffles. I wish the texture was more creamy; my white chocolate bark tasted like I was eating wax, I wouldn't recommend that piece. The cherry cardinal was oversized with syrup, that can be a good thing, but for my small mouth, it made a mess. I have no complaints about the truffles. Overall it wasn't bad, but I had better.

Yelp
If you love chocolate, this is a must! Smells absolutely glorious when you walk in and the chocolate -- ooof. French mint was smooth, marshmallow chocolate melts in your mouth, and the orange peel was the best I've had. Im not a fan of orange peel but my son loves it. We enjoyed the milk and dark--I prefer the dark but both were delish. Great service as well!

Yelp
A classic. Delicious confections and seasonal chocolates. Old fashion vibe sweetly packed. Great gifts

Yelp
Amazing, super chocolate-y fudge. I'll definitely order from here again. I ordered a few pounds for Christmas gifts (obviously one pound for myself). And I was pleasantly surprised by their fudge. I'll be back for sure! I'd been to their store before. But, I'm a chocolate-holic. If I started buying stuff in the store, I wouldn't be able to stop. They have a variety of great chocolate though! I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Li-Lac is such a highlight of the already charming Industry City. After walking around and admiring the murals, verdant courtyards, and delicious smells from Sahadi's, stop by here for a seriously cool look into the chocolate-making process (I'm a huge sucker for places with windows into the kitchen!)--and some impressive chocolates for not TOO premium a price. I was pretty surprised; in some places online, Li-Lac has a $$$ rating. This mostly applies if you're buying in bulk or some of their fancier gift options. I thought that given the decorative, special nature of the treats, it wasn't as cost-prohibitive as I'd thought. You can get raspberry creams or truffles for about $2 apiece, or a bar of fudge for around $5. I tried the dark chocolate raspberry jelly bar, which I was expecting to have a jam-like center--it was really gelatinous, which was kind of fun! My boyfriend and I also thought the peanut butter fudge bar was kind of interesting; it was akin to a block of the inside of a Reese's peanut butter cup, with a more authentic peanut flavor. This is a really cute place to take a loved one, sample some goodies, and enjoy the courtyards on a pleasant day.

Yelp
Chocolate covered orange peels are amazing! It was hard not to buy everything. The chocolates make great presents too.

Yelp
How are you gonna charge people like 20 $ for 20 chocolate pretzels from synder pretzels ... chocolate taste ok too.

Yelp
Wow... I've been to a few Chocolatiers over the years, none made me crave shoveling these sweet creations on sight... Until we went in Li-lac that is!! Just go, scouts honor, you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
He wanted to try the chocolate after passing by twice and trying a sample. The sample tasted like a ball of sugar so I have no idea why he decided to order a bar of dark chocolate. The bar of dark chocolate was nothing special and I refused to waste my calories on it so he ended up giving it away. It was a brick bar and very difficult to break to consume.

Jeannette B.

Yelp
If you want your valentine to think you've sampled the chocolates before gifting, buy the continental assortment. Customer service informed me this was not a quality control issue.

Jill C.

Yelp
Delivery was fast and candy was very well packed. Candy and delivery is very expensive, but well worth it. Will try to get to store in Brooklyn next time but very hard to park there.

Yelp
BEST CHOCOLATES EVER! My personal favorites are the hazelnut squares and any of their creamy white chocolate! My in-laws LOVED the dark chocolate, and my son (4 y/o) of course went crazy for everything we got! Amazing chocolate, you can tell they put a lot of love into it! Awesome customer service too! Love supporting small businesses, it's so important!

Yelp
Love this chocolate place. They offer samples and a wide variety of chocolate bars. They make their own version of peanut butter cups and they are so delicious. Chocolate bars are yummy. They also offer dairy free chocolate bars.

Yelp
Neat that you can see the chocolates being made as you pass by! That said, some of the things are good, others not so much. They had samples of their fudge and almond bark out the day I visited. Their fudge was... not good. It didn't have a rich chocolate taste, and there was something else in it that I can't quite put my finger on that gave it a strange almost gummy texture- maybe a stabilizer? The bark was pretty good, though. I came in for a gift for my mom, a dark chocolate lover. They didn't really seem to have too many dark chocolate options, so I went with a bag of solid dark chocolate leaves. The price point here is also quite high, even for NY. The mint bar pictured was $3.25, and the chocolate leaves were $15 for an 8oz bag, working out to $30/lb. I didn't see any indication that they used fair trade cocoa either, which would IMO justify some of the $$$. It is kosher though. The mint bar was very good- like an aero mint but without the bubbles and guilt of buying from a pretty evil company. Will I be back for future gifts? It may depend on what the recipient has to say on these, but it's a toss up.

Yelp
Went in the shop with my wife and 2 small children, and was asked to leave because they only allow 3 people in at a time, counting small children. We were the only ones in the store at the time.

Yelp
Excellent Chocolates! If you visit Industry City they have the factory where you can also see how the chocolate is made! I had the raspberry truffles- heaven!! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Delicious chocolate factory within walking distance from my apartment? YES PLEASE!! Fun to watch the chocolates being made. Fun to buy fancy chocolate as a gift. Staff is nice. Try to avoid the crowd from the chocolate tours.

Yelp
Bought their craft at Brooklyn crush for my family for Christmas, including some certified gluten free bars- they loved it. And the guys were so friendly. I would def buy it again.

Yelp
Li-Lac is consistently an outstanding product and important to my family life. Every family birthday, anniversary, performance, graduation, vacation, includes a li-lac treat. When my daughter got married, we had a Li-Lac cake topper! The company has been generous about contributing to local businesses. Chocolate is expensive these days but quality of Li-Lac is well worth it. Andrea O.

Yelp
Li-Lac Chocolates are the absolute best. The chocolate is delicious and always so fresh! I highly recommend Li-Lac - I shop there all the time and have never been disappointed.

Yelp
Decent chocolate but prices are 2x better chocolate...being given the wrong chocolates by their employee earned them 1 star

Yelp
This store is amazing. It's a treat in so many ways. Before entering you can see the chocolatiers putting delicious fillings onto a chocolate machine. Then when you walk in you are immediately blown away by the amazing smell of fresh chocolate and greeted with a hello. You'll see a staggering amount of goodies in the chocolate case as well as beautifully made molded items of all shapes and sizes. The location is very trendy. I will definitely go back as often as possible. I also really like that they are a kosher company. It makes for easy gift giving.

L Y.

Yelp
You can watch as the chocolates and cookies are being made. They are included in chocolate tours, however you can go during their regular store hours while you check out the rest of what Industry City has to offer.

Yelp
Ordered the French Assortment box. It was delivered quickly, the box was beautiful and the Chocolates were amazing.

Yelp
This place is amazing! From the second you walk in the door you're mouth starts watering. The smell of this factory location is one of the most pleasant experiences you can imagine. They had a few different samples for us to try as we looked at all of the different sweets they have to offer. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions about the products in the candy case. I will definitely be going here again and again.

Nicole M.

Yelp
It is pricey but you get what you pay for, right? I think this is the best chocolate I've ever had. It is so creamy and decadent.

Joan S.

Yelp
Stopped into the shop to purchase chocolate coins for Chanukah. Asked the clerk if the quality of the chocolate would be superior to what Trader Joe's has to offer. Told it was far superior. Unfortunately it wasn't. Same size bag, same lack of corn syrup. Only difference was the Trader joe item was creamier to taste at $1.99 vs the chocolate shop's $13.00.

Mark C.

Yelp
Wonderful chocolate and a wonderful store! You can see the chocolate being made right behind the counter - it doesn't get much fresher than that. Plentiful free samples and an endless assortment of chocolate varieties makes it hard to leave. After getting a tour of the whole chocolate factory from co-owner Anthony Cirone, I can certainly attest to the quality of the product and process (by both sight and taste!). I highly recommend this shop and their chocolates.

Yelp
The Academy of Medical and Public Health Services loves Li-Lac Chocolates and we are so lucky to have a location in our very own neighborhood of Sunset Park! Every year, during our Health Empowerment Celebration, we raffle off one of Li-Lac's chocolate gift baskets. Every summer, without fail, Li-Lac's chocolate gift basket is the most coveted by the attendees. Thank you for making delicious and high-quality fresh chocolate that our community can enjoy. -AMPHS Staff

Yelp
They had amazing sugar free chocolates.... I can even begin to explain how good they were.... No idea how they make them but it must be magic.

Kate D.

Yelp
While the products here are acceptable, the chocolate cream centered candies (including vanillas, chocolate and maple walnut) are not good. What is truly troubling about this establishment is the dreadful customer service. We were kept waiting for approximately 15 minutes, despite being the only customers present. When we requested a sample, one was provided but I had to discard it due to its flavor and texture. When a subsequent sample was requested, the "clerk" refused us an additional sample despite purchasing a variety of products, we had purchased products before but wanted to branch out. We will never again return to this store and would never recommend it to friends.

Michael G.

Yelp
Bought a box of mint chocolates here at their factory store. A little bit expensive but very very good. Definitely worth the price. Honesty I was not expecting much because of all the chocolate scandals recently but I was pleasantly surprised.
