Another great German food store in the neighborhood: there is an awesome Aldi at Rego Center mall, but with lots of things equal, I would rate this Lidl a bit higher.
Well, first of all, unlike Aldi, Lidl sells beer 😉. Belgian ales, German pilsner. Just that is enough to give it 5 stars and rank it higher.
But in all seriousness, it is a bit better in other areas as well. Pretty much all types of products sold at Aldi, you can find here. Nuts, cookies, crackers, chips, candy, water, juice, soft drinks, meats, cheeses, milk and dairy, vegetables, frozen food, even per food. Selection is vast and pretty much the same at lower than everywhere else prices. You can't go wrong with either store.
But what I found separates and elevates Lidl over Aldi (besides beer, of course), is a bakery. You can get fresh bread, croissants, cookies, and pastries at Lidl baked right on the premises. Just make sure to get to the store earlier. I visited it right before closing time, and almost everything was already gone (you can see it on the photo I took).
Frozen food section is bigger at Lidl with separate stalls for Indian food, Asian food, seafood, and pizza. Aldi has those products as well, but not of this larger variety (Canadian snow crab legs and lobster tails were hit with the family).
Lidl also sells flowers and even soil and seeds for your garden. I didn't see that at our Aldi.
The fruits and vegetables section was also larger, and those products looked fresher.
I will not stop shopping at Aldi (their calzones are great, and I did not see that at Lidl), but Lidl now offers another great spot for shopping, basically eliminating the need to shop at any other places like Stop & Shop or smaller stores.
This is my take, and as the saying goes, your milage may vary.
