"Maybe it’s the foliage in the windowsill or the fridge full of fresh celery stalks, ginger roots, and carrots, but something about Life Alive feels like a forest. This vegetarian and vegan restaurant serves up juices, salads, sandwiches and grain-based bowls with names like The Green Goddess and The Mystic Mountain." - Intrepid

Having spent the whole holiday eating lobster and rich food, this was a breath of fresh air. I had 'the adventurer' which was one of the nicest salads I've ever had. Family had various avocado /green salads that they thoroughly enjoyed. Smoothie/coolers also very good. Felt much better having eaten this for lunch and was able to resume normal service of eating posh nosh and pudding that evening.

Google
Life Alive is that hip healthy crunchy café you usually expect to be turbo expensive and mediocre, but it's actually fairly priced and the food tastes great. And the vibes are nice. The interior of this location in particular is very cozy. My only wish is that they include more fat free options for their hot drinks! Coconut cream is very high in saturated fat.

Google
The Butternut Bisque wasn’t quite what I expected, but the Farmhouse Cobb salad was fresh and delicious, with fresh vegetables. The turmeric shots were also a nice touch. Ashley, the cashier, provided outstanding customer service, she was friendly, welcoming, and truly made my experience enjoyable, so much so that I returned the same day. The atmosphere was also very pleasant.

Google
I love, love, love Life Alive in Salem, MA! It’s my favorite eatery in Salem. The food is fresh, organic, and delicious. It is ‘clean’ healthy food. The staff is friendly and attentive. They seem to enjoy their jobs. The service is excellent. I love how colorful the decor is. They even have poetry on their walls in their bathrooms! The local YMCA is across the street, so my husband and I can stop in after exercising. What more could we ask for?

Google
This place is amazing!! I had the pb açaí bowl and I would highly recommend. Great service too. The person who took my order was super kind and sweet. It wasn’t too loud and food came out fast! Great atmosphere and location.

Google
Great cafe on the main strip in Salem. The smoothie was wonderful, the wrap was good (though a bit plentiful with carrots) and the avocado chocolate coconut was interestingly good. Kinda wish they had a cookie but over all a great experience. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The pumpkin smoothie was a delightful seasonal surprise.

Google
Live Alive Organic Cafe is a fantastic spot for vegetarians! They were incredibly accommodating of dietary restrictions, including gluten-free, nut-free, and dairy-free options, which was much appreciated. The staff was courteous and friendly, making the experience even better. The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh, vibrant flavors in every dish. The juices were a standout—actually made from fresh ingredients, not just from a bottle. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a healthy, satisfying meal in Salem!

Yelp
We came here to try a couple of their drinks as we were walking around Salem for the day. We got the Heart Beet fresh pressed juice and orange cream soda (without thyme). The drinks tasted very refreshing, and fresh. They had just enough sweetness without being or tasting processed at all. The inside has plenty of seating. The restaurant staff was very nice. The theme of this place is definitely very hippie. They have many other drinks and food items that are vegan and hopefully next time I'm back I can try some of them.

Yelp
I wish we had this place on the west coast. The Avacado Greens and Watermelon Poke were delicious. The avocado toast was pretty basic but decent and the Cobb salad was reportedly very good. I also got the Glow Time smoothie which I'll pretend was healthy but it was also delicious.

Yelp
As a vegetarian I was so happy to find this place! I couldn't believe how many options there were! We ordered the Adventurer and the Rainbow Harvest bowls, both of which were so good. I think I liked the Adventurer a little bit more because of the sesame ginger sauce, but I would order both again. The Rainbow Harvest bowl is a bit bigger and more filling. Service was so nice and friendly when I had questions about the dishes. My husband had a mushroom allergy, which is in a lot of dishes, but we were able to find several options for us to enjoy. The ambiance is also colorful and fun. I would definitely come back again to try more dishes!

Yelp
My first time visiting LAO and it happened to be during an incredibly busy day. Still, the person at the register was very sweet and helpful with all the questions we had. I ended up getting the butternut squash soup, ginger shot, and butternut squash latte. Needless to say, everything was fantastic! If I'm ever back in Salem, I'll definitely stop by here again!

Yelp
We stopped by for tea and a coffee, picked up an açai bowl to go, very friendly staff, and a nice lunch or snack menu. Mostly vegetarian, although they do have vegan options.

Yelp
Life alive is amazing. Amazing. I know they have many locations but we've been coming to Salem for years. In my opinion they have the food fully down to a science in a good way, and it's less dry and nutritional-yeast-y than Boston's downtown. The adventurer is a showstopper. Consistent every time, ample portion, I really recommend it. The strawberry shake (seasonal) was good and creamy but the coconut yogurt comes through in the flavor. I like it, but wasn't expecting it. Ambience is fantastic and service is pretty good considering how busy they often are.
google avatar

Yelp
They have subsequently fixed the açaí machine. Still going 3x plus a week. Excellent açaí bowl and honestly the best one I have eat in the area!

Yelp
Excellent option for something on the lighter/healthier side of things. The PB+J Acai bowl is so good that I had to come back and get a second one the next day because it's the perfect size for a light lunch while stomping around Salem on vacation. My wife got different salads and soups, all looked good and she seemed happy, but man, that Acai bowl is magic. Seating is "seat yourself after ordering" so don't wait for a host/hostess. Service speed was definitely reasonable considering how busy they are. My only 'complaint' is I wish they would open earlier so I could have them for breakfast. But they open at 10, so lunch it is.

Yelp
Great service, fresh and flavorful, healthy wholesome food. The Buddha bowl was my favorite! Also had the pumpkin smoothie and the sol bowl. Everything was beyond excellent. I wish there was a location in RI.
google avatar

Yelp
Fresh and healthy options; prices were very reasonable and service was quick. A little complicated to find by car so just double check your map ahead of time

Luna B.

Yelp
Amazing and delicious. Good food that's good for you! Lovely service and people. The ambiance is also super cool, and you can people watch in salem.

Yelp
My sister and I came here for a quick lunch break while we were working in the area. There's a parking lot directly next door which was convenient but does require a payment. Orders are placed at the cash register and brought to your numbered table if eating in. My sister got the Buddha bowl and I had the Adventurer bowl since I was in the mood for some beets. It came out in under 10 minutes and was served still steaming from the kitchen. We both got a good portion of brown rice with plenty of fresh greens and vegetables. Overall, we had a good experience. Staff were accommodating and cleaning as customers left. Bathroom door was difficult to tell if it was actually locked so double check before. It was a comfortable ambiance that I could see myself just enjoying the day there.

Yelp
Salem is filled with fried, bland, tourist food. This place has real food, with actual flavor. I kept coming back for the raspberry tea.

Yelp
Food: "The Romantic" (added chipotle tofu to make it more filling) wrap was AMAZING. With additional hot sauce, some nutritional yeast, this was SO good. Definitely the best breakfast/hot wrap I've ever had. Also, their hot sauce is amazing! Service: Workers were super kind, friendly, definitely a different vibe (seemed more relaxed) than the workers in Boston. Ambiance: The restaurant is really spacious, lots of natural light, and it's pretty and colorful!

Yelp
I am usually picky with açaí bowls, I don't love when they are made with powder. This bowl you could tell was very fresh. I got the PB % J Açaí, it was excellent. Served cold you can get it to go or eat in house. The Blue Breeze smoothie was also great. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Lisa N.

Yelp
The food here is amazing - like visiting twice in two days amazing. Everything we had was tops - the Buddha bowl, southwest sol, rainbow harvest and especially the cauliflower soup. The portions were generous and the menu was clearly marked as to which options were vegan. The space is bright and airy and the service is friendly.

Yelp
Life Alive is a vegan organic cafe in the middle of Salem. They have a variety of healthy options which looked good and made the place smell amazing, but I just needed more of a snack. I got the Blue Raspberry Acai smoothie. I definitely enjoyed it, but $10 for a smoothie, especially one of that smaller size, is a bit much. It also took a while to get someone to take my order. There was a girl at the counter (who worked there but was on her day off) standing in front of me chatting with the cashier, and didn't even order anything. I made eye contact with the cashier several times before she actually called me up to take my order.

Natalie B.

Yelp
Probably some of the best food I've ever had. I had such a hard time choosing what to get, because, I don't eat meat, and 99.9% of the menu was vegan / vegetarian, it felt almost surreal, lol. Anyway, I'd recommend this place to anyone. It's a cozy place, almost like a cafe, with comforting dishes that are healthy, and won't make you feel sick. Portion sizes are pretty good for a quick bite, I managed to finish my plate without being too terribly hungry. I'd recommend the berry kombucha. Ten stars if I could.
google avatar

Yelp
4.5 stars rounded up Ambiance is inviting, artistic, and modern. There's even a cozy corner with couches and (children's) books for people to enjoy while eating their food. Service is a bit slow, but the food and drinks are worth the wait. FOOD: My husband and I got superfood lattes: one ocean blue and one golden milk. The golden milk was overpowered with way too much black pepper. I could barely finish the drink and would not order again. The ocean blue drink on the other hand was so smooth and delightful. Would definitely order again. Our grain bowls were hearty, healthy, flavorful and fresh. It was so nice to enjoy some nutritious plant based food during our time in Salem. Would definitely come back, but skip the golden milk drink!

Yelp
It was my first time at Life Alive in Salem. I ordered the summer minestrone soup and the orange cream soda. The food and service was was excellent.

Yelp
The food at this place was phenomenal! Everybody who worked there was so sweet and helpful. Really funky place plenty of seating. Very fresh ingredients. I ended up eating there two days in a row.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for Bougie coffee, #bestie got the banana oat cold brew which is made with oatmilk, flavored with dates, banana, and perhaps a little cinnamon. I stuck with the traditional iced latte. Both were amazing. Happy to support a local business on our little sojourn to Salem, MA.

Mia W.

Yelp
This place is very cute and fun. But it's HOT in there. Especially after the cool fall air it is quite warm inside. The smoothies we got were very good but it did take a little while to get them when the place truly wasn't very busy. However, the staff were all very nice and respectful.
google avatar

Kristen C.

Yelp
Delicious! So many vegan and non-vegan options. You could come for breakfast or lunch/dinner and a snack or smoothie break as well!
google avatar

Peter K.

Yelp
Lots of options for vegans. None of the entrees have meat. A couple have eggs and cheese but lots of options. Food was good, not the quickest, but reasonable speed.

Carmen M.

Yelp
I went in last night to get a watermelon maki bowl In salem. I went in after working a 12 hour shift at 8:15pm and when I received my order I told the receptionist that the bowl was missing the watermelon and it didn't look like the bowl I always order. She said it's underneath. I went home and it was missing the watermelon, the rice and dressing. It was gross! It's that the way you treat customers before closing. I will never order here again
google avatar

Emma D.

Yelp
Came here for lunch while in Salem. Wanted something quick and easy and they delivered on that. We split the butternut squash bisque and it was good & it warmed us up from the cold & rain. I ordered the goddess bowl and it was really good! Lots of good fresh veggies. I had a matcha afterward and it was just ok. But overall I really enjoyed the food and the place itself. Service was fine. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table.
google avatar

Yelp
I admit that I was positively biased by the fact that it smelled like the first health food restaraunt that I ever loved--The Common Ground in Brattleboro in the 70s. It's clean and has recyclable plastic (thank you!) and has a lot of choice if you're feeling like eating super clean and healthy. I had the spicy thing with the buffalo cauliflower and spinach and a bit of quinoa and some pomegranate seeds. I liked very much as did my daughter. She ordered something that had a lot of avocado and pickled onions and it looked great. Honestly, this area is a bit short on really super healthy whole food vegetarian/vegan options and we were really glad to find this. I'll go back and may have further reportage!

Janice B.

Yelp
Food is okay and great if you are vegan, but a gentleman behind the counter lectured me about asking for a little plate. He told me that the servers would bring everything, which they didn't, but let me take one reluctantly. I watched those plates the rest of my stay and not a single one was used. I have no idea why he felt so strongly against allowing me to use plate.

Yelp
While in Salem I was looking for a good place for a vegetarian and this was incredible. We were enjoying the Halloween festivities and then stopped in here. The food tasted fresh and flavorful. And I was full before I even finished!

Alicia W.

Yelp
Very pleasant experience! Service is excellent, staff is excellent and food was excellent as well! Highly recommend for good açaí bowls and smoothies

Kara K.

Yelp
The pb&j acai bowl is the best I've had ever! Fresh, unique, and delicious. The space was clean, nice, and quiet, and the staff was welcoming and friendly. This might have been my favorite dining experience in Salem.
google avatar

Kristen W.

Yelp
Visited Salem, Ma with a friend and this was one of the places we stopped by to get some smoothies. Very cozy and beautiful place to relax, and the smoothies were pretty good too! The people that worked there were also very friendly. Would definitely come back here again if given the chance!

Yelp
BEST MEAL OF MY LIFE. I literally wanted to try every item on the menu. I got a rainbow grain bowl and every bite was amazing. I wish we had one of these in Hawaii!! We loved our visit in Salem and the vibe inside this restaurant did not disappoint. The high ceilings and lighting were beautiful. The cashier was very patient with me as I placed 3 separate orders - one when we walked in, one when I realized I needed to try a couple more items on the menu, and again when my son polished off his food and was still hungry! Thank you for the incredible meal! We will be back some day. :)

Karenn G.

Yelp
I have always loved Life Alive. The food is fresh and delicious and healthy. Most recently though, I order my bowl and add avocado but the avocado is always missing and I have to call and go back or ask for it again if I'm there. Also, the tamari sauce is not there. Either they forget it or there's a small teaspoon of it in one spot. I use to taste it throughout. They don't mind raising prices but skimp on the food. My sister used to frequent Life Alive but refuses to go back.

Emily R.

Yelp
Be extremely careful if you have any airborne sensitive nut allergies. I have a very weird cashew allergy where I physically cannot be in the same room as them without having a reaction. I ordered a smoothie that was cashew free, however, I had to stand outside shortly after ordering while my partner waited for our drinks due to my throat starting to get very itchy. The smoothie was good and my reaction subsided after leaving, but there definitely needs to be a clearer allergen warning posted somewhere on the front windows or doors before entering.

Debra H.

Yelp
The food is always great. Best place for vegan meals. We always stop by in our way through and have for years.
google avatar

Kitty S.

Yelp
Amazing drinks! Vegan and GF and so delicious! Great staff & ambiance...love the flavor combinations of the smoothies and coffees.
google avatar

Kira D.

Yelp
Menu on yelp needs to be updated for this location - many dishes are no longer available- including signature dishes. Nice ambiance, but dishes were served a significant time apart. Willing to give another shot.

Morgan R.

Yelp
We came to the Northeast for a 9 day vacation, and every single meal we had from Boston to Vermont to New Hampshire to Maine was a huge disappointment bordering on outrage... Until Life Alive. We came to Salem the Saturday before Halloween to close out our trip, and these guys DELIVERED. All of their food was delicious. It was prepared with love, and craft, and flavor. AND, it's vegan - healthier, not cruel, and better for the planet. Ten out of ten. Not only that our food came quickly even in the last half hour of what I'm sure is their busiest night of the year, and the staff was gracious and helpful, though we could see when they let their guard down that they were thoroughly exhausted and ready to crash. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. I haven't written a review I can recall in forever, but this place earned it a hundred fold. Thank you for feeding so many people!
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
We were only in Salem for one day, but stopped here twice it was so good. I had a bowl with horchata latte, which was AMAZING. My husband got an acai bowl that he really liked as well. The service wasn't super fast, but they made everything right there in front of you. I would seriously go here every day if I could.

Hank R.

Yelp
The rainbow harvest bowl is literally the blandest thing I have eaten my entire life. Extra star for good nutrition but like yall this tastes terrible. The only seasoning in this meal is like a dry poof of nutritional yeast in the middle. No salt, tofu completely unseasoned. Strawberry lemonade is watery. What are yall even doing

Jade S.

Yelp
Ok, I would eat here every single day if I could but I was only in town for a week ;) The menu, choices and variety were amazing. So many gluten free, dairy free and vegan choices if that's your jam (it's mine). Husband had the açai bowl both times we went and it was also good. I feel like it's hard to find good açai in the mainland but this came pretty close. It's got a great little coffeehouse vibe and we got seats and food promptly even though October is the busy season. Seriously I would eat here every day. I loved everything I tried.
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
I always love Life Alive whenever I go to any of their locations. This place in Salem is no different with a magically relaxing atmosphere and great drinks!
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
The best vegan selection we found while on vacation. The staff were great and I thoroughly enjoyed everything I ate there. While traveling we always end up eating a lot of vegan comfort food due to the lack of cleaner options at restaurants. This place really saved the day for us. We ate both breakfast and lunch there.

Benjamin P.

Yelp
Soggy wrap, made with paper thin tortilla, dripping wet with every liquid they could salvage. If you order to go, when you open your wrap, you either get a wrap with paper stuck on the tortilla due to the wetness, so enjoy your paper wrap. OR the insides of the tortilla just completely fall out cause the tortilla(surprise surprise) is still stuck to the paper. Just go to "Wrapture" in Beverly it's much better on all accounts.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Good food and reasonable prices. Lacking customer service ( slamming down drinks and no mannerisms )and no order in the front of house. Received other orders, nothing we ordered. And everyone seemed confused. Although they were steadily busy shouldn't have taken 40 minutes for soups and Ramon. But food was delicious
google avatar

Dave L.

Yelp
The Dinner that I had was well done and the management and crew were very friendly, helpful and informative.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
So yummy!! The green goddess bowl is my favorite. And sitting in the window and people watching in Salem is always fun.
