Life Hotel New York

The location was very convenient. The room was clean and as advertised online. Be aware when booking however, that there are fees that are not transparent when you book the room. There is a bogus 'destination fee' of about $150 that is paid to the hotel when you arrive. No mention of this fee when booking the room. When they asked for my credit card at check in, I was told they needed my card only for incidentals. Then voila, the fee remained on my statement. Nice hotel. Just be aware what you will be paying.

A very cozy hotel. Our room is small given that we have two queen size beds - its fine. We stayed for the beds to sleep since we’re always out. Hallways are tight but it’s not a problem. I liked the most are the staffs. ..Very nice, pleasant and accommodating staffs. Location is very convenient to subway and bus and a lot of restaurants open even on late nights.

My first time at this hotel and it was phenomenal for my 3 day stay in NYC! The lobby was so charming, clean and smelt great! I'm all about detail and cleanliness and they were spot on with the room, a spacious king suite! And to top it off the staff were so accommodating and friendly. Francisco is a long time employee and his dedication shows through his work and hospitality. Thank you buddy!

My fault obviously for traveling around the holidays but seeing current, much cheaper, prices while I paid almost $800 for 2 nights hurts. Again, 100% my fault. The hotel is in a good area. Very walkable and safe with plenty of food and drink options, as well as attractions, super close. Immediately upon entering the king room with sofa sleeper my son remarked that it was small. I was also surprised that there was no bedding available in the room for the sofa sleeper. I made the reservation for 3 adults so I expected the amenities to reflect that. The tub drain in the bathroom did not hold water so we had to clog it with a washcloth to take a bath. Water pressure and temp were great though. Housekeeping staff! At 8am housekeeping and our neighboring hotel guest were loudly discussing that it was TOO EARLY for them to be trying to access their room. I quickly got up to attach our DND sign. Lobby is lovely with attached cafe with seating. Hotel provides coupon for 1 free drip coffee or tea for each guest. Not a fancy coffee...just drip. Over all, if you're staying during non-Christmas times it's not a bad place.

The Life Hotel does the basics really well. This is not an over the top fancy hotel with tons of amenities-who needs them? You’re in NYC! The rooms are clean, the beds and pillows are super comfy and you can’t beat the location and value. The best part though is the service. Shabir and Chris S. were the best! Super helpful, friendly and made sure we got a great room. This is my fourth stay here and I’ll be back for sure.

It was quite literally the perfect stay. The service was incredible, friendly; the rooms were clean and nice. Wonderful, spacious bathroom; right in the heart of Manhattan. I was happy every moment. I will definitely stay here again.

Disappointing Stay at The Life Hotel My stay at The Life Hotel in New York was far from what I expected. Unfortunately, the hotel lacks a lounge or any kind of common area where you can relax or get work done. The lobby is incredibly small and offers very limited features, making it feel cramped and uninviting. Worse, the lobby had a noticeable smell of smoke. I understand it's an old building, but the smoke odor was overpowering and hard to ignore. As for my room, it was just okay. It gives the appearance of being clean at first glance, but after a closer look, it wasn't as clean as it seemed. The shower curtain smelled strongly of mildew, like a wet mop, which made showering uncomfortable. To make matters worse, I found hairs in the tub before I even used it, which was incredibly off-putting. If you're simply looking for a place to store your belongings while exploring the city, this hotel might be fine. However, I dreaded returning to my room after a long day of walking around. It was not a relaxing or comfortable space, and I didn't even feel comfortable using the shower. Overall, I wouldn't recommend staying here if you're looking for comfort or a pleasant hotel experience.

We stayed at Life Hotel for a ladies weekend getaway and it was perfect! A great old building that is clean with comfortable beds and pillows. ||But the best part of Life Hotel was definitely the staff- from check-in through check-out, we were always greeted with a smile and a kind word. Francisco was cleaning downstairs while we were checking in and told us a little about the building. His friendliness set the tone for our entire stay. ||Aziz- how can we possibly say enough about Aziz? I’m embarrassed to admit that he came to our room a few times during our visit- a forgotten toothbrush, to set up a cot, then facecloths the next night because we were napping when housekeeping came through. Every single time we saw him, his smile was genuine and he laughed with us. ||Life Hotel NY should be applauded for putting together such a wonderful team. I have truly never seen this in any other hotel I’ve stayed in. ||Thank you all for a wonderful weekend!

Really nice hotel for the price. Lots around it to walk to, the staff was extremely friendly. Beds were very comfy. Only downside was so natural light in the hotel room and the hotel resturant was closed.

I had a great stay at the Life Hotel. I've actually been wanting to stay here for a while now. Check in was a breeze, the room was clean, bed super comfy, bathroom amazing and heat and hot water at its finest. The only reason I could not give it 5 stars was because their single elevator was the slowest I've ever experienced at a hotel. It was so slow I think I waited almost 7 mins just to get up to my room after checking in. Secondly, throughout my stay I ended up just using the stairs because again it was just too slow! Other than that this beautiful hotel is worth a stay and the location is perfect.

*BEDBUGS* I got bedbugs after a stay here and I followed up with the hotel to discuss the situation with management. After telling me they would call me back, no one did. I gave them a second chance and called again and left a message with management but again, no one called me. I've been up several days in a row with extreme itching and discomfort and have scars all over now. I would avoid if you want to avoid unsanitary conditions and poor service. This is health and service issue and they have complete disregard. They also never provided housekeeping services on one of the days I stayed but that's the least of my complaints after this experience.

We came to New York for a weekend and loved this place! It is right outside of Korea Town, and there is an AMAZING coffee place just down the street (Blank Street Cafe). Staff were super friendly and accommodating, the room was clean and included large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The only downside is that the walls are thin and you can hear people coming in and out.

I stayed at the Life Hotel a couple nights ago from a recommendation by HotelTonight app. It was very reasonably priced and very nice. The room was small, but it's New York City, so what do you expect? The hotel is only a couple blocks from Penn Station, so very easy access. The bed was very comfortable, and I think that the best part was that it was so quiet. I did not hear a single ambulance, fire truck, or car. It was so peacefully quiet which was wonderful.

The art above the bed consisted of a handwritten note, "Of course I talk to myself. I consider myself a good speaker and I appreciate an intelligent audience." I can relate to that sentiment. Anyway, if you're looking for a central location at a good price in Manhattan, I can heartily recommend this renovated boutique hotel on 31st between 5th and Broadway. It's not a coincidence that it's called Life as the classic glossy magazine was published in this building from the time it was built in 1895 until 1936. There is a classic vintage feel to its architectural elements beginning with the ornate front awning (photo: http://bit.ly/2Oeq0EW). It was originally designed by the same architects who designed the New York Public Library on 42nd Street. However, the rooms feel quite contemporary with high ceilings, wood floors, and one of the bigger TV screens I've ever seen in a hotel room. For a room with a queen bed, it was $290 per night, a reasonable rate for Midtown. We even took advantage of their second-floor workout room to shave off some of the calories we gathered on our brief vacation in the Big Apple. Ok so Life Hotel "gave me life" by providing the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept on in all my travels!! Seriously - it was amazing. I just wanted to lay in bed all day. It's my mission to find the pillow top they use so I can transform my bed at home. The hotel was Clean. Great location. The have a restaurant and offer complimentary Continental breakfast in the early morn. Easy check in and excellent customer service- helpful, smiling, pleasant. WiFi access didn't give us any problems. Hotel is Located near subway and close to shopping, drug stores, and restaurants. A friend who traveled with us wasn't too impressed with the restaurant so we didn't try it but we might the next time we stay. The continental breakfast was nice though- coffee, juice and a few pastries. Lobby and elevators are small. There aren't very many elevators either so there may be a wait, but it isn't too long. I didn't see any pets so I'm not sure if it's pet friendly. They was always great music playing in the bar/lobby area too which was fun! Casual, upbeat atmosphere. Wine and chocolate restaurant next door!!! I would stay here again and again!!!

Pictures online look nothing like the actually room. Was dull, no light, almost like being in a basement or attic. Air coming out of the A/C smelled bad so I couldn't even use it. I could hear every noise going on outside of my room, front desk people talking, guests yelling, etc. There was also some type of cross breeze happening where it made it move/jiggle the door a little bit, so in the middle of the night it seemed like someone was trying to get in. Wasn't a good experience & would not return unfortunately.

This place is super cute!! It's a great place for social media photos. The art pieces on the walls are witty. This hotel was overall unique and cozy. I loved the experience.

Stayed 4 days and 3 nights. Centrally located near Penn Station, Herald Square, 5th Avenue etc. The room was extremely sparce. One chair at a desk and no other seating except the bed. Plenty of room for a couch or more chairs but there weren't any. The hardest thing was there were also no dressers. Staying for days at a hotel without dressers was an inconvenience I wasn't prepared for. We had to put all of our clothes on the windowsill (it was wide enough). The staff wasn't overly pleasant and although they state the bar and restaurant are coming soon there is no indication that it is actually coming anytime soon (or this year?). However, there are plenty of places to get coffee and food but nowhere to eat if you want to bring it back to your room (unless you enjoy eating in bed which I do not). The price was fine for a NYC hotel but the site should be honest when describing the rooms. Our room had a hardwood floor for some of the room and just bare cement for the rest of the room. There is a big step up to the bathroom (couldn't figure out why) so if you are older or handicap I don't recommend it. I probably wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Brendon and Christian the Mixologist/ wizard will help you navigate the drink menu. Trust him he's a doctor with elixirs and all. If your not sure let him suggest something. You won't be disappointed In the kitchen is one of the most talented chefs in Manhattan All day menu has the most eclectic fusion of soul and home cooking your taste buds will be pleasantly surprised. You will be wondering how did JJ Johnson dream up these heavenly dishes. Bryant was on hand to welcome us and give us a little history about the building and how The Life building came to be. Nice clean hotel in Manhattan and good location. 1am on our 1st night, fire alarm was so loud on hotel building. No one tells me about this and we walk to down from 6th floor to front desk. They said, someone push the button and no problem. Staff didn't' say sorry to customer. Last of day, we asked late check out at 7am in the morning and staff gave us 1 more hour so we our check out time were 12pm. 9am housekeeping open the door by herself, we were still in bed. She opened the door and just closed door. That was so embarrassing. 11:10am she opened again our room door without knocking. "Why you don't go check out?" Ask us. Never say sorry or excuse me. We told her, we have 1 hour late check out, she doesn't understand English. I never got this situation in hotel who came in using hotel's key when we are in the room. This is terrible experience ever.

This is easily one of my favorite boutique hotels in NYC. Life Hotel is sort of an unusual egg. The location is ultra-convenient (I adore Koreatown) and the price is right, but it seems relatively quiet and lacking in the popularity of some competing boutique hotels in the area. That is, in many ways, a very good thing: it means this place is sort of an unkept secret, for better or worse. The rooms here are superb. Ultra-high ceilings, ultra-modern and clean interiors, great room service. The rooms don't have much of a view and lack some amenities (an ironing board, which you can ask for), but that's outweighed by the many positives. The accommodations are simply comfortable, which is above and beyond what many places provide. Needless to say, check this place out!

down a couple stars because of management change and restaurant change. Restaurant Henry was AWESOME and whatever is here in its place....pales in comparison by many many points. Hotel still has clean appointed rooms, but the best part of when I stayed here was the Henry and it's a disappointment to see it gone. I now see hotel workers moving guests suitcases, filling water glasses, running tables and have to tend bar. It's a disaster. if it improves, I'll update, but for now -- the marilyn and the life hotel---are not recommended by me

I'd like to start with the positives. The people at the front desk when you go to check in are very hospitable and sweet. Additionally, the cleaning staff was prompt and efficient. Now for the negatives. There wasn't enough hot water. Even at the maximum temperature, the shower was only lukewarm. The rooms are dark and cold. My room did not have an outward facing window, so I couldn't see daylight at any point when I was inside of the room regardless of the time of day. The walls are very thin so I could hear everything going on outside of my room. The room I stayed in is much smaller the what the 1-person room looked like on the website. The hallways were very dimly lit and down the hall a light was flickering on and off as if it were a haunted house. It was very spooky. Overall my stay here was thoroughly uncomfortable.

I was about to rate this place 2 stars. The courteous smiling woman at the front desk with red hair when I checked out redeemed the rating. I was originally excited for this place because it was super cute, in a great location and a decent value. Here were the things that negatively affected my experience: 1. Housekeeping cleaned my room ANYWAY even though I put up their do not disturb sign. I was so upset because I do that purposely since I don't want people touching and moving my belongings without me knowing. Even if there's some sort of policy where they have to clean the rooms they didn't tell me and it was an invasion of privacy. 2. The bed is TOO SOFT. It dented all the way in and was uncomfortable. I don't think I could've slept on it for more than 2 days. It was like it was made out of bread. 3. The hallways are very very dimly lit. Maybe they were going for a vibe but it felt eerie or almost as if they were not working 4. When I was checking in I'm not entirely sure what happened but a customer was very upset. She asked for the manager but the staff didn't really seem to be acknowledging her or had much urgency in helping her out. I hope she got the help she needed. Certainly didn't give me a good impression of the hotel. The lackadaisical nature of the receptionist helping me at that time also didn't help 5. Minor detail but the entrance had stairs. I get that it's New York and I've lived here lugging around suitcases in the subway but you'd think they'd provide an easier way for guests with luggage to get in 6. I only knew having read some reviews on booking.com but when I checked in they didn't mention anything about the gym or the WiFi. The place is beautiful but I'm not quite sure if I'll stay again.

This place is so new and amazing!!! Everyone was so accommodating, especially Bryant, at the front desk! Our room was beautiful. Service was great. Will def be back here! One lady at the front desk was rude on our last day at the front desk . We asked for water and she said sorry she didn't have any. 5 mins later A gentlemen's brought us some. THANK YOU but didn't ruin our experience

I'm a sucker for a boutique hotel, and this fit the description well. They had a cute little bar and small restaurant that doubles as their lobby. The staff was very friendly and accommodating with any questions we had, save for one person, I'll mention below. We had a double bed room. While it wasn't large, it wasn't super tiny, like you expect most rooms in NYC to be. I was surprised that the bathroom was also a decent size too! Plus, there was a tub if you enjoy baths. AND, I always love when there's a make-up mirror. The beds were super comfy, which is always appreciated! The one morning we woke up and there was no hot water for the shower. I realize that things just break and it's out of their control, but the super cold shower wasn't the best way to start the morning! I'd rather have a cold shower than bed bugs, so there's that! Sadly, I didn't eat there. When I asked if there were any gluten free items for breakfast, the girl behind the bar told me nothing was gluten free, even though eggs were on the menu. I'm not sure if it's all cross contaminated items and they want to be safe or if she didn't really understand what gluten free items were available, but she didn't seem too into talking about it past my initial question. We also tried to go down to the speakeasy bar on Wednesday night around 10pm but it wasn't open. Not sure if they just open super late, but 10pm seems like a good time to open? We got a super good deal to stay here, so it was well worth it in my opinion and I would absolutely stay here again!

I really enjoyed my stay here! It was clean and comfortable. It was modern and just perfect for my stay. The location was cool, there's some nice restaurants around. It's not far from Empire State Building. The restaurant was nice, we didn't eat there but it was always very busy. The drinks were ok but they seemed to close the bar early when we were there. I would definitely stay here again. There's a wine and chocolate bar next store that we went to but we were a party of five and the place was very small. We didn't want to wait long so ended up leaving before we were seated. The hotel was great though and I was happy with the price and the comfort and experience.

We stayed at Life Hotel on our recent trip to NYC this past September. We chose Life Hotel because of the location. Smack dab in the middle of Midtown and walk-able to everything we wanted to see while we were visiting. This is a boutique hotel! So if you like space and some amenities of a big chain or big brand name hotel I would suggest staying somewhere else. The "lobby" is connected to a bar and restaurant and with a group of 5 of us with 2.5 luggage's each. It was crammed. Also there was a group of 5 checking in a head of us which made us feel even more claustrophobic. We arrived well before check in but we were able to store our luggage and hit the town. Once we were able to get to our rooms, they looked just like the pictures. Its truly a hipster's instagramable dream. The room: We had a King on the second floor. The bed was the most comfortable bed I think I have ever slept in. I felt like sleeping on a cloud. We have 1 very small window in our room. It must of been an old window to a fire escape because I could kind of see out of it, but it was blacked out. I wish we had some natural light in the space. Small closet, console with a huge TV completed the space. The bathroom was quite large and worked for just a one night stay. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone who visiting for a night, longer trips require more space. Great location! On the higher end but worth the price (with that bed alone)

Terrific hotel, I would give it a one star if I could to deter people from staying here so the prices won't go up... I had a king size premium room, and though it was a little tight, we were very comfortable. There's a good sized closet and bathroom (I loved the bathroom). A convenient desk and chair. Massive wall mounted TV with Youtube, cable, and other apps. The bed is soooooo comfortable and squishy, so I had 2 wonderful nights of sleep - partially due to the shuttered windows. The other thing I very much appreciated was that the housekeeping came during the evening (while we were out) to clean our space - NOT knocking loudly on the door on the morning/afternoon like I usually experience. Lastly - very convenient location in Koreatown, not far from subways going uptown/downtown. Overall, I'll be seeking this hotel in the future! PS - also, I praise the lighting in the room. Three lights in the bathroom, and three bright lights + 2 lamps in the bedroom. Hello sunshine!

Its new york- i get it.. Rooms are tiny, everything is expensive.. Fine. But this hotel is EXTRA cramped, has HORRIBLE wifi, and NO amenities.. My biggest peeve- horrible wifi. This hotel wins. I travel a LOT. I cant remember a more awful internet connection. 20 -30 mins for one jpg from a gopro to upload. Thats when it had an actual connection. We were here 3 days, and it never improved at any time of day or night. No refrigerator or microwave. Vending consisted of an ice machine and soda machine. No candy bars, food or anything else. This was a big problem because with a family i dont want to drop $100 for every meal of the day, so we traveled with groceries. We ended up using a drink glass to cook hotdogs and ramen in a cup with the hot water dispenser downstairs for our meals we didnt eat out. No breakfast. They put out oat meal packs and instant coffee in the mornings. Theyve pretty much made a statement with the one hot water dispenser - eat and drink somewhere else. Im used to hotels having individual climate controls for each room. Im not new to the NE or Ny areas. They had a 1980's window unit for AC, and it has the standard radiant heater in the corner. We were COLD at night because the building boiler wasnt fired up yet at thanksgiving, so we never had any hot water running through radiator, hence no heat. Front desk didnt care either. Neighborhood- VERY close to good area. But street in front of hotel is scummy and had homeless all up and down it all day. Constant traffic at night and room is not insulated. Outlets- our room had 3 avail outlets, 2 had 2 plugs, one by bathroom only had one outlet and a switch. So 5 plugs total. Traveling as a family where we each had a phone to charge, in addition to two laptops and a couple of cameras that needed batteries charged nightly, this was a huge logistical problem. Parking- ill give them an extra star over the one they earned. Its not adjacent to the hotel or really convenient, but it is ina garage and not horribly far. Its a decent price for in the city too. This is the only real redeeming quality. However it appears many of their guests dont drive in so this may not be of any use to you. EDIT - after checkout i brought rating back down to one star from two over the parking. They quoted $30 a day at hotel, but when i retrieved the vehicle, the third party garage told me it was $80 for two days. Still not bad for the city BUT NOT WHAT HOTEL SAID. Attendant and manager at garage were extremely rude and took 45 min to retrieve vehicle when i was the only person there getting a car. It was cleaner than many hotels ive been to, but overall, its not a good value for the price. It looks "boutique" but falls WAY short of an actual boutique hotel and the service expected from one. If its the only thing left to grab on a last mi ute price deal and your time in the city will be spent mostly out of the hotel, and all you need is a place to crash and keep your clothes from being stolen, it will suit. Otherwise spend $50 more a night and get a GOOD room at the hyatt or sheraton.

+Great location +Helpful, friendly staff +Nicely decorated and very clean +Nice bar and restaurant area -The rooms are SUPER small. I generally like boutique hotels but this room was so small I could barely move without bumping into things and I am fairly petite. I'm not sure if I would stay again for that reason but if you don't think you'll be in your room much then you won't have any issues. -Walls are very thin so any time people were being loud in the hallway I could hear it all.

Rates are hourly at $75.00 for three hours. Hurricane Sandy created wreak havoc for many New Yorkers as it inconvenience me. Receptionist window partition is separated by a two inch bullet proof glass when visitors check-in. Valid photo identification is required for all visitors age 21+ checking-in whether it is one person or a two person party per room. Staff is capable of conversing fluently in Spanish and English. Lobby area is beautiful with a home-like atmosphere rather than a hotel. A restaurant is located on the premises. It is an extremely cramped room with one queen size bed and no surrounding space to maneuver. Every hotel/ motel room contains a desk right? Herald Square Hotel contains a ledge attached to the wall to serve as a desk. There is barely any space to place a book or one's personal belongings on this built-in ledge. Temperature is stifling hot where the heat is hike up to 1,000 F degrees fending a sauna atmosphere upon my entrance and entire stay. The hot water of the shower and sink were dangerously hot as I burnt my little hand. It was impossible to shower away the stains of the daily grime without hot water as it was dangerously fiery hot. One giant HVAC unit sticks out above the room buzzing loudly. One small TV is attached to the wall with bad clarity for image projection. The bed is draped in pure white Egyptian cotton sheets and very firm like new comforters with pinstripe white pillow shams. The color of the bed linens emits the supposedly purity and wholeness of one's stay. Quiet room, clean and bed bug free. Herald Square Hotel is conveniently accessible within the vicinity of Koreatown.

Came in the night before an exam at a nearby center. The lady at the check in made me feel so welcomed, gave me 2 vouchers for 2 glasses of wine on the house and pointed out all the amenities for me. Including where coffee was located Incase I was up late studying. From the check in to the check out everyone was amazing. There's breakfast in the lobby in the morning which had multiple options, from over night oats to the usual breads and pastries. Will definitely come back!!

Excellent hotel in pricey NYC... if you hunt around for deals, one can get a good price for a very nice hotel. When I stayed there earlier this year, my room had been redone and had a bathroom area that was bigger than the rest of the room! Figure that one out... Great coffee machine in the lounge area and free chocolates. A block from Koreatown and a couple of blocks from the Empire State Building. And this hotel appears (so far) to be one of the few in N YC without a bedbug problem. I really checked out the room from corner to corner and found no evidence of that pesky insect that seems to be in most NYC hotels. Excellent staff as well....

Was here for 8 nights. Overall good value for money. Great location, friendly staff, comfy beds, ok bathrooms. Could have had coffee/tea in rooms, but ok. But! Heaters are lousy! Either they fryed us up, or they made loud hammering noises during the night, both preventing us from sleep. Vi switched rooms (thankyou Chris!) which helped somewhat, but not completely. Getting a good nights sleep is the most important thing in a hotel, and I can see others have had the same problem -- obviously the problems aren't being taken care of, therefore I only give three stars.

I had made the reservation early in the morning. Had a friend check in first which was fine. Then when i arrive at the hotel, the receptionist was incompetent. I gave her my I.D. and asked for a duplicate key and she refused and gave me a hard time. She barely spoke English and it was just frustrating overall. How do you decline a paying guest a key to the room they paid for? The room was tiny! Never again!

I was pleasantly surprised by how fun, clean, and trendy this hotel was. I had a week stay and loved every day. Firstly, my room was treated with 5 star service. Cleaned daily to perfect condition (a big perk for me as I'm a sucker for clean living), bed was large and super comfortable. Loved that the floors were bare without a carpet! Tv was huge and quality -fantastic: the HD felt so real. The gym was a great perk for me as well since it was just on the 2nd floor but had the elliptical and weights I needed in between meetings to get my workouts in. The front desk woman with the Italian sounding name who checked me in on Sunday was lovely. I also enjoyed entering a great beat session with very cool art surrounding that had quotes. Lastly, I would do it again and the magnets on the doors were the perfect last add on.

Negatives: - you walk into a busy, tight, and very loud restaurant from the street level entrance. It's an odd reception getting off a flight with luggage. It does not feel like a hotel. - painfully slow elevators, it was faster for take the stairs even to the 6th floor. - the gym is ridiculous, practically the size of a walk in closet. Every morning there are 3-4 people vying for equipment practically working out on top of one another. - no water on the gym level.... - only two bottles of water in the room that are never replaced, and no mini fridge or other snacks in room. - very very very loud- the clanking of old pipes all night long, flushing toilets and showers, people having sex in the room next door, yes you hear it all and unless you're some weirdo none of that is desirable. -neighborhood is not quiet and convenient for business stays, lots of tourists as it is near the Empire State Building and 5th ave. Positives: -Coffee machine on gym level -water in room was free -large bathroom in my room -reasonably comfortable bed

Beautiful hotel. Well-decorated with vintage glam vibes. Great service, very clean. We got a great deal through Expedia and only paid $196 for a $250+ room, and they upgraded us from a Queen bed to a King at no charge. Walking distance from Penn Station. Would absolutely recommend!

My son and I stayed here when we flew up to take in a New York Jets game. This was the best deal I found on the travel web sites. It is not the Ritz, but it's not a crack motel, either. The staff was nice, the rooms small (it IS New York) but it was located within easy walking distance of everything: Penn Station, Times Square, the Carnegie Club, you name it. We used it only for sleeping, which is what you should do when you visit "the city that never sleeps." Beds were comfortable and the AC worked fine. If you want to hang out in your room, this is not the place. If you are taking in the town, and only need a good bed that is AFFORDABLE and centrally located, then this is your place. (The people b*tching about the "small rooms" should visit Europe. That will open your eyes.)

I had such a great experience here! Our room was absolutely beautiful! I'm not sure why some people think the rooms are small because I got the smallest room and mine was not small at all. Not to mention the bathrooms are huge and handicap accessible! The tiling was gorgeous- it all was! They had a lovey bar/ restaurant downstairs and the staff was so friendly. In the morning they have coffee with bagels, muffins, etc. Was such an amazing price for the amenities they have at such a beautiful hotel. I live just outside the city but I often get hotels down there when I want to stay out late and this is by far the best one I've stayed at. Will definitely be coming back!

My girlfriend and I went to NYC for the weekend and were very excited to stay at The Nomad Hotel, thinking we had found an excellent price for such an upscale hotel online. We booked through hotels.com or booking.com or some third party site. However, when we got to the Nomad, they informed us that the hotel we had reserved was a few blocks up the street. While Life Hotel is not a bad place to stay, they were deceptive in their advertisements either of their own accord or through a third party site. Please check the addresses of where you are staying and don't be disappointed like we were!

Just left a stay here. All I can say is WOW. We loved the ambiance and the location. Upon our next trip I will be checking for availability in the Life Hotel! Drinks at the bar, concierge service and all staff. It was a wonderful stay and I can't wait to come back! Thanks to all!

Good boutique hotel in a convenient location. We stayed here when we were in the city for a concert at Madison Square Garden. The rooms vary in size and the higher the floor the better as we were on a lower floor & our windows faced inward across from the kitchen so we could hear the kitchen staff talking & dish noise. Had to turn on the A/C to drown out the noise. Two small slow elevators but there was a easy to access stairwell. The pros: cozy bar in lobby & speakeasy in the basement with a good drink selection, excellent beds, great showers, robes and water in the room, drink ticket for the cocktail of the day when you check in and of course location! Cons- rooms can be small with no views, noisy depending on where your room is, no coffee in the rooms, long wait for elevator but ok if you don't mind stairs.

We were placed on the first floor adjacent to the elevator, front desk, and restaurant/bar. Very noisy at all times. The hotel would not move us to a different room. Small rooms and no windows, which is to be expected. A free "breakfast" of cold half bagels and mini muffins. Still like $180 per night with tax. Probably would not stay here again.

I stayed here last night and it was the worst hotel experience ever. I checked in at 3:00 and apparently my room wasn't ready yet. The entire check in process took forever since the front desk seemed overly confused about where to put me and I didn't get into an actual room until 3:30. Ridiculous, a check in should never take so long! The room I was in was small, had a window that opened to a brick wall, so no sunlight could get in. I was placed on the 2nd floor above the kitchen, so the noise from dishes banging around was awful. The rooms feel like bedrooms in a big house and have ZERO noise control. You can hear every noise in the hallway. Because the rooms were so dark, it gave the feel of a dingy room. I would never stay here again and wouldn't recommend it for my worst enemy. There are plenty of great cheap hotels in midtown!

I wish I could give a more positive review. I've stayed here twice now, because of the proximity to friends/subway/business. But the first time I was awoken by a broken fire alarm at 4AM, and when I complained to the staff they failed to apologize. The second time (a few days ago) the ceiling suddenly cracked and water flowed through onto the bed, forcing me to check out early. The room is also tiny, and Wifi is very weak.

I used Hotwire to book this hotel for our stay in NYC. Location was great, but everything else wasn't. When we arrived to check in we were placed on a floor with no lights (YES the floor had no working lights). When I confronted the front desk he mentioned that he forgot that floor was not operating. When we finally got to our room it was super tiny! Nothing like the pictures I saw advertised on Hotwire. The room felt more like a prison cell than a room with basically 4 walls and a bed. We asked for a refund based on our experience and after much back and forth the manager at the hotel sympathized with our situation and refunded us.

Single worst hotel experience of my life. There were blood stains in the carpet of the room they gave us. The staff was extraordinarily rude and unhelpful through 2" of bulletproof glass (yes, you read that right). I saw actual prostitutes coming and going here. It's a real family place for sure. Oh, and when we refused to stay there they refused a refund. We paid $400+ a night and it was the biggest mistake we have made in terms of travel. Would give less stars if I could. AVOID THIS HOTEL. You'll thank me.

Pros: -The location was convenient for us, close to Madison Square Garden, and right on the edge of Koreatown. -The hotel was clean. The bed was comfortable. -They offer a break on overnight parking at a garage around the corner (call to ask about this). Cons: -Our room was TINY. By far the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in. Nothing like the rooms they show in their photos, most of which are of their renovated rooms. It was also on the first floor, so we had to walk past the breakfast room and all of the mops and cleaning supplies that were stored in the hallway outside our room. One person can sit in a chair, the other person Must be on the bed. There was a folding luggage valet in the room but no conceivable place to put it. -There was a window in our room, but it was boarded up from the outside so there was no natural light. Essentially, it felt like we were sleeping in a bunker. -The air conditioning unit was on its last legs. It was very hot the day we arrived and we needed the air. It clanked and squeaked, it sounded like 2 squirrels were mating inside of it. It did cool the air, so there is that. Made it hard to sleep, though. -The shower had an on-demand hot water system that seemed to work about half the time. Eventually we learned that we had to wait/waste about 5 minutes of water before it would get hot enough to shower. -The toilet was placed so close to the wall that I (with my ample bottom) had to sit almost sideways on the thing in order to use it. WTF? -There were no outlets near the bed so any electronics had to be charged/plugged in on the other side of the room. -The television was 80% static on every channel. -Hmm. Let's see. I could probably go on but I think you get the idea. We paid over $200 a night including tax for our room. Like many NYC hotels the prices change drastically depending on the week and demand. If you can get a room for Much less, it might be a good enough place to lay your head while visiting Midtown. But we won't be returning.

If you're looking for an inexpensive hotel to stay at in NYC and you don't mind a few missing amenities, then I highly recommend the Herald Square Hotel. Such a great deal, especially in NYC during the holidays! I was promptly checked in upon arrival. The lady at the desk in was really nice. When I called in with questions, they kindly answered them, and they also extended my checkout time by an hour and a half when I requested it. Extra bonus points when I found out that this is a family business because I like supporting those. The room that I got was very tiny and quaint. When I first stepped in, it just made me feel like I was really finally in New York City. The queen sized bed literally filled up the room with about a foot of space on either side, and there was a little desk and closet at the end of the room, and a super mini bathroom. The room was highly lacking in amenities, but for that price, that's passable. The four notable things that the room had was a large LG flat screen television with cable, a Sony Dream Machine for playing CDs and for a clock, free wifi, and they also had an Aveda soap bar in the bathroom. Otherwise, it was lacking shampoo, lotion, mints, hair dryer and telephone. I did really enjoy this one amenity in the lobby though: there was a coffee machine with complimentary coffee and bowls of candy! :D By the way, the location of this hotel is great. It's in the Flatiron District by many subway stations, as well as the Penn Station, which was fantastic for me because I arrived by Amtrak from Philly and ended up being able to walk to the hotel from the station. It's pretty hip and happening in the area with plenty of stores, restaurants and people. If you're looking for an affordable hotel in NYC, look into this one.

Right off Broadway with easy access to trains going up/downtown, yet not exorbitantly expensive. Rooms were quite large and clean with a beautiful marbled bathroom. Staff very nice and efficient. Lobby felt like a lowbrow bank: employees behind thick glass, slide your info in the slots underneath. Yet they still let anyone in the place (despite the registered guests only sign: no keys checked, my friend came up without a checkover). Hallways bare and tiled like an old office building. The rooms were sparsely decorated and dated but roomy, I was told this was an "upgrade" so the other rooms must be smaller. Somewhat put off but the employee who provided a free service (getting my one suitcase out of a closet and carrying it 5 feet) but then said "you can tip me whatever you want." Overall a decent, safe option for the price!

This is the worst Hotel in America! They won't refund anything if you change your dates or cancel your reservation. Managment is extremely unhelpful and out from the desk most of the time. Stay away!

Having lived in NYC for a few years I was hesitant to stay in a cheap hotel but I read every review out there and the Herald Square came out on top on my list due to its cleanliness. When we got there there was no line (thank God, cause I was freezing) to check in. We booked the room on priceline. The check in process was very quick.. they have pay when you check out. The lady at the reception desk was very rude though, we never had to deal with her again so whatever. They should make her take some classes on customer service. We took the elevator to the 7th floor to our room. The room that my husband and I stayed in was very small but more then comfortable. It was one of the regular rooms with a double bed. The room itself was very clean, it smelled clean and the bed was so comfortable I never wanted to get out of bed in the morning to the freezing cold. In other websites I read about the room being cold and was very glad to find it a very comfortable temperature since I'm usually cold natured. The thought of taking an extra personal blanket cross my mind but I'm glad I didn't. The bathroom was a regular restroom although a bit on the small size. The Hotel does have a machine that offers coffee, tea, hot chocolate in a lounge are. They were all nasty but I'm picky with my drinks maybe other people might be ok with it. They also offer free wi-fi. I would definitely stay here again, great price and location.

After searching over 50 hotels in the area, I finally settled on this one mostly based on reviews and photos. I have been to NYC several times and by far this was my FAVORITE. Price is reasonable compared to other hotels, and it was sparkling clean. I stayed in a Large New Queen room but I was shocked by the cleanliness and comfort. Also it was only about 2 blocks from Herald square which is great. I will defiantly be returning!

Sound like they may have done a decent amount of reservation when I last stayed here. I remember the room being pretty cramped, where the desk and tv were on a stand that was literally over the bed. When opening the bathroom door you hit said bed. I guess it's hard to beat for the price but sometimes it's just worth paying more to get a solid room unless you're really relying on staying on the cheap.
