The Lift Bridge taproom was easily worth the drive over. The interior is warm and welcoming, decked out in wood, with low long tables or smaller round hightops for your choice of seating. Beer-wise, there are lots of options, from the standard Farm Girl to more seasonal options. We tried the Minnesota Tan, which is a raspberry beer that strikes a great balance between not too sweet, not too tart and not too hoppy. I was shocked when I looked down and realized it was 8.5%. I seriously could have had about four of them.
We did take the tour, which was really a brewery tour geared at history buffs and beer nerds. It was a nice combination of the history of beer and also technical specifics about how the beer is made now -- with a nice smattering of brewery history thrown in. Free samples are given throughout as well, which of course always helps.
I will agree, however, with some of the other comments about the staff. While we weren't carded when we walked in, there seemed to be too much concern about carding me when I actually wanted to drink a beer. My husband went up to the bar to order and then returned to get my ID so that he could get my beer served. While he was up at the bar with my ID, a second person came over to the actual table to card me. Weird. After this, there was actually a guy standing at the door carding people. It just seemed really... zealous. Other than that, there wasn't very much interaction from the staff.
