"Liks is a Denver ice cream institution that opened in 1976, also known as the good old days before California figured out we existed and people skied in jeans. Today, it’s still one of the best places in the city to stop for a cone after dinner or a pint to take home. The flavors change daily, but you can’t go wrong with anything that has cheesecake in it (look for the Cheeseman Park flavor). Also, try the caramel apple or the amaretto cherry chip if you see them." - Chris Stang

"Four decades old, Liks delivers a delicious scoop and a great neighborhood atmosphere. There are classics but also adventurous flavors, including almond roca, amaretto peach, caramel Irish stout, and PB&J. Bonus: There is a location in Conifer, too, that makes a perfect stop for long trips home from the mountains on Highway 285." - Eater Staff

Google
My husband and I just love this ice cream shop! 🩵 We have tried numerous ice cream shops around the Denver area and Liks is hands down the best!! They rotate flavors so you can always try new combinations…so fun! Cones made fresh daily. I can’t have gluten which is no problem for Liks, they can tell which flavors are gluten free and offer a gluten free cone option. Dog friendly too. If you haven’t tried Liks yet, you should!

Google
Great little place with a long history in the neighborhood. Has restrooms with free toilet paper and paper towels, indoor seating, a patio, and free water for hydration purposes. Service was great. The batch of chocolate Ice cream I had was bland. I hope that was the case.

Brent Miller

Google
Liks was a great little stop for ice cream. Our ice cream was smooth and creamy as all made in house ice cream shops should be. Outdoor seating was nice, and when we went there wasn't much of a line. Street parking is available.

Douglas Basnight

Google
This is a fun neighborhood ice cream spot. They have funky but well crafted flavors and all the classics. They make their own waffle cones and my partner was raving about hers. I had a milkshake and it was really well done. Only complaint was that I noticed the staff missed a few details along the way. Like I ordered a small milkshake and got a large (small thing for a busy ice cream shop)

Google
For me, this place is a nostalgic gem that perfectly captures the spirit of colorful Colorado! Growing up, I’d rush over after school for a scoop (or three) of their Strawberry Cheesecake flavor, which sparked my lifelong obsession with all things creamy and delicious. Each visit is a trip down memory lane, where I can still hear the laughter of my siblings and me, and the irresistible scent of waffle cones mingles in the air. If you’re looking for decadent ice cream that’ll make your taste buds dance, Liks is a must-stop. Trust me, your inner child will thank you!

Wendy Rankin

Google
Great location. Wonderful ice cream. Staff was outstanding and patient. Highly recommend. Nice patio!

Lisa J. Shultz

Google
Interior isn’t special but there is nice outdoor seating available and free parking on the street. Their ice cream is fabulous. I particularly liked huckleberry! I like it when I can get two different scoops in one small cup. I got vanilla and huckleberry and ate outside while people watching.

Bronwyn Lehman

Google
Hands down favorite ice cream shop in Denver. Vibes are nostalgic and ice cream flavors are so good and consistent! They manage to combine traditional old school classic flavors with interesting combinations without trying to be “trendy.” It is at its heart a quintessential locals ice cream shop! Love walking here on a hot night with the family!

Michael B.

Yelp
It's hard to say definitely who has the best TASTING I've cream in Denver. But easily the best ambience is here. It's a great quiet neighborhood with lots of fresh air and honestly the lack of children is amazing. If you're inclined there's a bar next door and the ice cream is pretty damn good as well.

Dylan S.

Yelp
Just a couple blocks away from my place. Liks is my go to after a long day of working from home. It's my little "finally off" treat. Tucked away in a small spot in cap hill right by cheesman park. This is a perfect spot for stopping in before the park or even heading home. Very walkable for close by residence. Tons of flavors that do change often. I chose this time the cappuccino caramel and cookie dough. Some of my favorites. Always clean inside and full of happy faces. Tons of seating area outside as well to enjoy the beautiful Denver weather.

Jeff B.

Yelp
Spotted this place while in town for an extended event, so we'll probably be back before we have to leave town, but it's very nice! Throwback vibes. Great service and the flavors of ice cream we got were like you'd expect in a local spot like this. Wish we lived nearby to come back regularly.

Jessica N.

Yelp
I'm so confused by the high reviews! Their ice cream is reminiscent of Baskin Robbins. Not to say Baskin Robbins isn't good, but it tastes as good as grocery store bought ice cream. The waffle cone was also incredibly stale and soggy.

Melanie T.

Yelp
This is a lovely ice cream shop that was a nice walk after visiting the Botanic Gardens. There are so many flavors and you can sample them as well. There really is no structure like a designated line. It really is if you can get the attention of the employees to help. But everyone is really friendly. Most of them are young so be nice and patient. The strawberry flavor was quite tasty to my shock. It didn't taste like fake strawberries. It was thick but not too sweet. A single scoop comes with a ton of ice cream so you do get your moneys worth. If you can't finish it, order a child scoop.

Sophie S.

Yelp
Yea I'm Yelp elite, of course I check to see if there's a menu of ahead of time. Liks is a popular spot with no shortage of food reviews, but you deserve the vibes. I'm definitely adding this spot to my rotation!

Mark S.

Yelp
Great local made ice cream. The Graham Cracker Station is unique and extremely tasty.

Sarah S.

Yelp
The choices! How will I ever decide?! That's whats so great about Liks, so many great flavors, both traditional and non-traditional. Liks is a very popular neighborhood ice cream shop so it's usually busy but it's worth the wait. They have a small seating area inside but they have several tables outside. Staff are always friendly. My recommendation is to go!

Kathy M.

Yelp
Wonderful neighborhood hangout, we never fail to run into a neighbor (and their dogs) there. Hurry to get the graham cracker flavor while it's still around!

Lindy P.

Yelp
I absolutely love Lik's Ice Cream in Cap Hill! It has easily become my most favorite ice cream joint in Denver. It's conveniently located off 13th Street and it isn't too hard to find free street parking. The staff is so kind & helpful, and they'll let you sample so you know you'll be happy with your choice. They have 2 freezers, each with 12-14 flavors! They have the regular options but so many unique ones too. I don't have an absolute favorite bc they rotate their flavors & you'll always find a delicious creamy one you like. The ones with coffee in them tend to be my favorite! They even have pre-packaged pints. And, one scoop on a sugar cone is only like $4 and it's plenty... and they even let you get two half-scoops so you can get 2 flavors in one scoop! Do yourself a favor & get here now :)

Catherine C.

Yelp
Wanted to see why the line was always out the door. Lik is great! It's small but has that old fashioned feeling of home. They have all kinds of classic flavors to funky flavors like "green nerds" and bubble gum for the adventurous ones. I opted for the "bear in the woods" which is a fantastic blend of graham cracker, cinnamon, and honey which makes it pretty sweet but I didn't mind one bit. Everyone is super nice and there are a few tables and window seats inside, but it's much more spacious outdoors. They're also dog friendly!

Laura T.

Yelp
A very cute ice cream shop with a large variety of flavors. Of course they have the basics and a lot of other options as well. Staff has always been timely, making good suggestions, and place looks clean. Pretty small for seating inside but a decent amount outdoors during warm weather.

Joanie W.

Yelp
Love. This. Place. A neighborhood favorite. So many flavors, with some that rotate. Reasonably priced and huge servings. They always have a few sorbet / vegan options. Love the staff (always friendly and working hard!). The outdoor area is also nice for sitting with friends and enjoying your sweet treat.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Great service and vegan ice cream options. I had strawberry and coffee chip, both were yummy.

Tessa H.

Yelp
Yummy ice cream with quick service. It feels like it is kind of tucked into a little area that you wouldn't normally go to, but it makes it more enjoyable than a busy hotspot.

Michael G.

Yelp
I came to this place because it is close to my home. The staff friendly staff and ice cream is fresh. If you can walk here it is even better because of limited street parking. I will return.

Dana W.

Yelp
Little pricey but what do I know. $7.50 with tip for 2 scoops but the ice cream was delicious. The young lady helping us was super knowledge and nice! The patio outside was great under the trees and people watching! Will definitely be back!

Craig A.

Yelp
A small ice cream shop with an outdoor seating area. Stopped in for a come the other night. It was decent. The prices were reasonable and the line was out the door, but moved quickly. Definitely recommended. The place could use a good scrubbing, and a little sprucing up, but otherwise, you'll find it worth the walk.

Portia W.

Yelp
Local neighborhood ice cream place with delicious vegan options! Made in house dairy flavors so yummy with toppings of fudge or sprinkles if you wish. We walk here often & less than two doorsteps from the house! A must local neighborhood tryout after you walk 6miles in Cheesman Park!

Mariah T.

Yelp
Sweet goodness! It's always a good day when you can end it with an ice cream cone, at least in my book. Liks Ice Cream was quite the treat. They offer a wide variety of flavors from classics to Liks special made. I decided to get a double scoop cone with Creamy Praline and Girl Scout Samoan. TOO GOOD, I've actually never tried the Girl Scout Samoan in ice cream form before but I've been preparing for that moment all my life. Growing up my mom would always stack up on the Girl Scout Samoan cookies and we'd pop them in the freezer to make the chocolate hard and the caramel thick. The frozen cookies are great, but the frozen cookie ICE CREAM took me there. I loved every lick. So creamy, with chocolate bits and coconut mixed with the creamy praline and sweetness. The waffle cone was fresh. FRESH CONE. My mans a milkshake man so he runs to the yard for Cookies and Cream lol if you know what I'm saying. Liks didn't miss on the shake. They are located in a quaint neighborhood with outdoor seating so we got our sweet treats and took a moment to enjoy our peaceful surroundings. The day was coming to an end and it was starting to give me Fall vibes, I can only imagine how beautiful the area gets when the leaves start changing. Must go, a neighborhood gem!

Kyle J.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream!! The two workers were very friendly and fast. I will be coming back to Liks :)

Veronica B.

Yelp
While parking might be tricky it's worth it!! I've been eyeing the spot for a bit and can finally cross it off my list. We got 1/2 scoops and boy was it filling. One waffle cone with cookie dough ice cream and strawberry cheesecake. My friend raved about how amazing that strawberry cheesecake was! I got a chocolate dipped and sprinkle sugar cone with vanilla ice cream (yes you can judge I was boring) and mint chocolate chip. The ice cream was smooth and quite filling. Give them a try!

Amy D.

Yelp
Solid old-school, no-frills ice cream shop! I stopped by around 1pm on a Monday, and they weren't busy at that time. They had 32 ice cream flavors available the day I went, and you can view all the flavors in their displays, or you can look at the chalkboard they have on the wall. I saw that you could answer a trivia question to win a free scoop, but forgot to ask them about it. I ended up trying: -Cheesman (Cheesecake Ice Cream w/Graham Cracker, Strawberry Marbles), Graham Cracker Station (Graham Cracker Ice Cream w/Graham Cracker Marble, Chocolate Toffee) (Single/$3.97 + $1.30 Waffle Cone, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=fdV-HCYGT4NtxG08j0CuDw&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): Both flavors were good, but not my first choices. The cheesman tasted like a strawberry cheesecake in ice cream form, but had a little too much fruit for me. The graham cracker station was SUPER graham cracker-y, but a little too sweet. -Salty Butter Caramel & Fluffernutter (Vanilla Base w/Marshmallow, Peanut Butter Marbles) (Single/$3.97, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=E1CFkymWxEEbrDgWoZRlJQ&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): Yum- I enjoyed both of these flavors more! The salty butter caramel didn't skimp on the salt, and I liked that the caramel balanced it out; however, I don't think I could eat more than a half scoop of this flavor. The fluffernutter was my favorite, and I really liked the peanut butter and marshmallow combo- recommended! Their staff were not wearing masks. I really liked that they had a good sized outdoor patio available where you could sit down and enjoy your ice cream. Parking in this area can be challenging, but street parking is available.

Hyun J.

Yelp
Single scoop is very sizable, the flavor is rich, price is reasonable. What more can i ask? There was no sample to try, but she told me the ingredients of the flavors i asked.

Andréa N.

Yelp
Heard lots of rave reviews about Liks and had to try for myself! It was honestly very good but nothing very crazy or impressive. Lots of flavors and some unique ones. They don't offer tasters which would have been nice to help narrow down which flavors you want given their long list. The ice cream overall is good. Could be a little more creamy and soft. Decent portions for the price. Would come here if I was in the area but wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Eilen S.

Yelp
We just moved to this area and I'm not kidding when I say this is one of the reasons I was so excited about our new neighborhood! We've been here a few times now and it's just a solid spot. Every flavor I've tried has been great and fresh. My favorite was definitely the Girl Scout Samoa cookie flavor it's a staple that I get everytime I visit. This place is a very hot spot around this neighborhood and gets really slammed even on week nights. The service is great and everyone is super friendly. Will continue to visit at least once every few weeks! (or days )

Carrie E.

Yelp
It's a great shop! Cute street corner and neighborhood that you want to sit and watch the action.

Sydney S.

Yelp
Actual ice cream was great and dairy free was not good. Service was great! Cute little ice cream shop near cheeseman

Erin K.

Yelp
Awesome small batch ice cream shop. I live on this street so liks is a common stop after a long bike ride. I have never had a flavor I didn't like. They don't do samples (to save on waste) but you won't need one. There are no wrong choices here. I've also had a milkshake that was stellar! It's on the more pricey side but worth it.

Emily A.

Yelp
I love a local business--especially an ice cream shop. However, I recommend the ice cream shop up the street as the stronger choice. Also, I had been to Liks a few times, but when I saw their sign above the checkout that says "Support Your Local Police," I felt sick to my stomach. This was during the height of the George Floyd protests--and when Denver police were famously brutalizing our friends and neighbors. Liks tells us whom they are serving, and I have not been back.

Debbie M.

Yelp
Disappointing. Denver is full of great small batch ice cream shops. In my opinion, Liks is not one of them. My go-to is Sweet Cream, but Liks is a short walk away, and today I thought I'd try it. Sorry I did. I didn't care for the flavors, and the hot fudge was...not good. I threw the entire sundae in the trash. Next time, I'll make the drive to Sweet Cow. Sweet Cow is awesome!

Felipe P.

Yelp
First let me say this...I've been going to this establishment longer then some have been alive. So the wife and I went on a date night to L's. Dreaming about some Jack Daniel ice cream. Full . Don't have it today . Damn. Ok. Spot new flavor. Cherry chocolate walnut. May I try a sample please? Can't do that sir, we apologize. SAY WHAT? In my head I'm sure this isn't about COVID so what the hell?! I'm not spending $5 for a hopeful scoop. But you know where you can get a sample of a new flavor? Bonnie Brae, Walia Creamery,Em's,Sweet Action, Cone Zone, basically everywhere. Called the manager and the reason for no samples is...a supply chain issue?!?! Gthowtbs. That sounds like you being a cheap ass profiteer excuse. All the places I mentioned are organic family owned non chain establishments and amazing. I'm calling shame on you. Get it together.

Madeline P.

Yelp
I had the pistachio and coffee crunch, both were excellent! Massive servings for a "single" scoop and the tasters were larger than normal. Friendly staff too!

Jordan W.

Yelp
Best ice cream in capital hill! The nerds ice cream never lets you down and the service there is always with a smile.

Sonia S.

Yelp
I used to go to Lik's a lot. They have some interesting flavors, and their base isn't bad. It was always on the pricy side, but generous portions. Now, though, you get something smaller than their old children's portion for a "single" price of $4.50. Give me a break. Not sure if I will be back, the value is just insulting. We all know inflation is a thing, but at least give me a portion that's acceptable for an adult. It would be one thing if it was gelato quality, but ... it isn't.

Ekim E.

Yelp
Finally managed to try Liks and it did not disappoint! This place is so, so, so good! If you're in the mood for ice cream and nearby you have to stop by and honestly even if you're not in the mood for ice cream you should still stop by and get a scoop. You can thank me later. They have several flavors each day, good amount of seating outside and the scoop sizes are humongous! We got the espresso almond fudge (beautiful creamy espresso flavor with just the right amount of sweetness) and wild raspberry cheesecake (no words can describe the deliciousness of this flavor - perfect raspberry to cheesecake balance, too) - both were perfection - we hope to be back soon to try other flavors!

Vivian A.

Yelp
We have made it a tradition of stopping here after a visit to the Denver Nature and Science Museum and since we are members there, we come here often (at least 2x/month). The staff is always super helpful and nice and patient when you decide you want to sample everything under the sun! What we have swallowed: BUBBLE GUM: My kids go-to. They order it EVERY TIME. CREAMY PRALINE: Not too sweet, just right.. with yummy pralines. BANANA PUDDING: One of my favorites here, little banana chunks with banana pudding pieces.. yummy! DULCE DE LECHE: This is so addicting, I wish they had it as a regular on the rotating menu but they don't so if it's on there, get it! MEXICAN CHOCOLATE: I don't really steer toward chocolate ice creams but this one I'll make an exception for. Deep, cinnamon-y flavor. So good! PISTACHIO: This one was OK but a bit of a let down. It was more like vanilla ice cream with pistachios so if you're expecting the ice cream itself to have a pistachio flavor, I would pass on this. Again, we're frequent visitors and will continue to be as long as they keep making awesome ice cream!

Joy G.

Yelp
Tasty and reasonably priced. No samples, so hard to tell what unusual combinations/names might taste like. The young person at the counter was friendly and happy to describe flavors. Beautiful walkable neighborhood close to the Botanical Gardens.

Andrea N.

Yelp
Easily the best ice cream I've had in town. All of the flavors that I have tried have been fantastic (loved the apple pie one recently), however I'd like to especially rave about the Jack Daniels Chocolate Chocolate Chip ice cream... I've never had ANY bourbon ice cream that was rich, flavorful, and actually tasted like it had bourbon (and not 'bourbon flavoring') in it! SO GOOD!! I honestly can't rave enough. If you dare, turn your pint into an adult ice-cream sandwich. You won't be sorry. Your diet might, but you won't be.

Judy L.

Yelp
Got a tub of Cheeseman and a tub of salty cookie -- omg, they were both SO GOOD. This was the first time we tried Liks and we were beyond pleasantly surprised. Staff was super nice. Though I'd like to note that I saw someone's long ponytail almost got into an ice cream bucket while she was scooping an almost empty adjacent bucket. Which is why we bought prepackaged pints instead.

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
Stopped in with friends for an ice cream cone. I had the cherry chocolate chip and it was fantastic. Limited, old school flavors, but delicious. Very friendly service, not a long line, but sadly you can't try the flavors. An interesting list of flavors from pistachio to bubble gum. The sugar cone was fresh and crunchy. Much delicious

Nancy Y.

Yelp
We discovered Lik's several years ago on a visit to Denver. At that time, and several visits after, it was the best. On Feb 4, 2022, we walked 2 miles from downtown to get a cone. Oh my gosh! What has happened there? First, one whole freezer was apparently broken, so half the flavors normally available. Second, no tastes. We had ice cream the day before at 5280 Burger Bar downtown. They offered tastes, and there is no valid reason for Lik's not to. I ordered Chocolate Chip. Huge disappointment. It was not creamy, and you could not lick it, it broke off in pieces, like it had ice crystals or something. I had paid over $11 for two cones and had added a gratuity, and was so bummed out by my cone that I did go back in the store to tell the server of my unhappiness, and to hand the cone to her for disposal. Well, the young lady had no idea what to do about a customer complaint, I guess. I thought the ice cream was not good enough to waste calories on. She made no offer of another flavor, or a refund. We will not trek up to Lik's again. We were very, very happy with the great ice cream at 5280 Burger Bar, and it is right in the Pavilion Shops on the 16th St Mall.

Shin M.

Yelp
Hmm now I'm giving this one star because I don't like what the owner wrote in reply to my last comment. Very unprofessional. Not to mention... I am not an ex employee- I have never worked there. You have mistaken me for another Asian girl.

Jorge D.

Yelp
I feel this place has to be one of the best ice cream shops around the Denver area. The main reason is be the service is quick and has a nice and friendly tone. The shop has a good vibe and just has a friendly dose for who ever.

Ellyse L.

Yelp
**Visitor's Perspective** What to get: Jack Daniel's Chocolate Chip, but try other flavors Time in line: 1-2 mins (very fast line) Vibe: Neighborhood ice cream shop and hangout ==The Food== ++Jack Daniel's Chocolate Chip++ Surprisingly, I didn't taste the Jack Daniel's, but I still liked it as a chocolate chip ice cream. It wasn't obnoxiously sweet where I needed a drink to wash it down and when paired with a small sugar cone, it was a perfect treat without being a sugar overload. I love ice cream, but somedays I'm looking for something on the lighter side and this worked out perfectly. ==For Next Time/Final Word== This place is a neighborhood hangout and a small, local shop that is a nearby gem for the residents in the area. There's quite a few flavors that are unique and worth trying, so if I were to come back again, I'd still taste around before picking a (new) flavor.

Fallon R.

Yelp
My favorite ice cream spot in Denver. I recommend trying the salted cookie and the blueberry cobbler. The ice cream here is rich, creamy, and well balanced. I will be back for sure! The single scoop is more than enough for one which can involve 2 flavors. Unfortunately, there's no taste testing the flavors so choose wisely.

Susan P.

Yelp
When we were there it wasn't busy. Girl behind counter was quick , not nice but wasn't rude. Ice cream was good. Waffle cone tasted stale so I didn't eat that part. The Carmel Irish stout ice cream was really good.

Michael L.

Yelp
Refuses to bring back Hot Fudge Sundays. Always out of sleepless. Just going to go to Baskin Robbins and they're going to complain how their losing business.

Hallie M.

Yelp
Delicious! The line goes fast and there's a wide variety of flavors. I loved the gram cracker, but there were a ton of other flavors I was dying to try. We will definitely be back!
