Li’l Woody’s Ballard - Review - Ballard - Seattle - The Infatuation

"If you had to choose between your significant other and a grass-fed burger with a basket of queso fries from Lil’ Woody’s, let’s just say you would need to blast some really, really sad music and start packing your things. Lil’ Woody’s is perfect for a quick lunch or to refuel before a Friday night out—only at the Ballard location, you can’t stumble in at 2 a.m for more (since they close at 11). The menu has a solid lineup of classics, plus more creative choices in case you want housemade pickled figs on your burger." - Aimee Rizzo

My friends and I walked to the Ballard Locks as we parked near this burger joint. I ordered the salmon burger, fries, and vanilla shake. The burger was the perfect size, the buns were fluffy, and the Tillamook vanilla milkshake was well worth the extra calories.

Google
I’m very pro Lil’ Woodys. Excellent location right on Market. $3.50 modelos! Burgers are always solid. Their basket of fries are huge and well seasoned. One of the more affordable meets high quality spots. Ambiance is a little cold but clean and staff is always good. No complaints for a solid burger in Ballard!

Google
I was really excited to try Lil Woody’s in Ballard, especially since I was quite hungry. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be disappointing. I ordered the Cap Hill fried chicken sandwich with fries and onion rings, but none of it met my expectations. The fries and onion rings were particularly oily—practically drenched in oil—making them inedible. The sandwich was just okay; I’ve had much better sandwiches at many other places, and If I could say lots of fast food restaurants have better sandwiches. The chicken was dry and utterly tasteless. Since we couldn’t eat most of the food due to the terrible taste, we decided to order a coffee almond fudge milkshake. Thankfully, it was good, likely because it was made with Tillamook ice cream. Despite the ample seating, casual vibe, and friendly staff, we were not happy with the place and won’t be returning for the food.

I have been coming here since they opened (and Zak's before). This is one of my all-time favorite burger spots. They have an amazing combo of high-quality and creative flavors. I like to hit Lil Woody's before catching a movie next door. My go-to is the Pendleton, but you can't go wrong with their menu. Make sure to get a milkshake as they are outstanding as well.

Google
The diced pickles on the original burger made it pop but it has a classic burger taste that I crave. Atmosphere was laid back and very clean. The guy who took my order was nice and helped me choose what I wanted. Overall great place.

Google
First time trying out this place. Was a really good experience. My wife also enjoyed it, and she is pretty picky about food and liked it a lot. Burgers were flavorful, and juicy shake was tasty! Definitely recommend this place if you enjoy burgers 🍔 😀. Also, they have a burger of the month that is always changing the menu!

Google
I’ve been to this location a handful of times and have always had pleasant customer service. The food arrives timely, hot, and incredibly delicious. Their Seattle burger month special, the deli burger, was perhaps one of the best burgers I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying! I think they should look at adding it to the regular menu, or at least that everything spiced bun! Oh man!! The interior is bright and colorful, nice wood tables. It’s not overly huge inside though, and there is a very small space right out front to dine as well. Their fries and crispy and thin, the onion rings are perfectly battered and the burgers are juicy, flavorful, with fresh toppings and sauces. I don’t understand why this location doesn’t have a high rating, it’s literally the best!!

Google
I genuinely loved my salmon burger, they make them in house which I appreciate. It tasted fresh and had a great texture to it. As a pescatarian I found it refreshing to go to a burger place and find something on the menu aside from an “impossible” or “beyond meat” burger. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is our fries were not salted. We got a basket of fries and there was zero salt. Aside from that we enjoyed everything and will return again!

Yelp
Plenty of sitting space for a small restaurant. I had the lil woody burger. It was good nothing outstanding. $17 for a good size burger and fries. I liked the fries although they were really creasy. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but I would eat here again.

Yelp
Came by around 7 pm one day. Small store with a decent amount of seating. Service was pretty fast; we had barely gotten water and sat down before our food came. Food was just okay though. The only thing that stood out was that the cut of their fries was shoestring, which I haven't really seen too many stores offering. Would come back if I was starving and looking for a real quick bite. We also ordered a milkshake, and it came in a soup bowl? It was more liquid and lacked the thick consistency of a milkshake.

Yelp
The special of the week Brie and Pear burger literally BLEW MY MIND! You wouldn't think to come up with this, but the concept works so well and my tastebuds were tingling with happiness! I was very much satisfied with my burger and I wanted to get a second one. It was just that good! I also picked at some of the fries that my friend had ordered, but this is where it brings the rating down. The fries were extremely oily to the touch and had a sad soggy texture to it. Taste-wise though is was your average potato-y goodness. Would definitely come back again to try the other burgers, but maybe would have to skimp out on their fries. Solid 4.25/5

Yelp
My son and I had a nice lunch. My son LOVES. this place. I didn't love having to pay for parking to get a burger. The prices were reasonable. My chicken sandwich was OK. It was a little spicy and probably a little more fried than I would prefer but my son really loves this place so he was happy.

Yelp
Bad attitude from service here, even while we were busing the table. Maybe next time we should just leave the tray at the table if the staff is impatient about us sorting through trash and compost. The fig burger was also pretty bad -- too much sauce, stale buns, and very thin patty. Needless to say I won't be coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
What a fantastic burger joint that stays opened late in Ballard! Popped in here for a late night bite and it hit the spot. The burger was packed with cheesy goodness backed by a crunchy slight sour pickle. The staff were friendly and the space is very clean. Love it and will be back soon!

Joseph I.

Yelp
One of worst meals I've had in a long time. The salmon burger was greasy and fishy. The fries were a complete disaster - very soggy and soaking in oil. Basically inedible. Not sure what changed here, but I don't remember it ever being this bad in the past.
google avatar

Josh K.

Yelp
The food here is fantastic. The food portion sizes match the price that you pay. It's in a convenient spot in Ballard. But the people that work here...you can tell that they don't want to (or maybe I was there on a bad day?) The ketchup is behind them in the cooler and you have to ask for it. When I asked for it, the person working the register let out a sigh of what we took as annoyance and got it. It made me feel so uncomfortable. But they kept the restaurant very clean, and it's welcoming on that part. Just make sure you ask for the ketchup at the register after ordering.

Yelp
Wow, Lil' Woody's burgers. This place is good. I've been going since they opened the first restaurant years ago. Their fries, though, hit or miss. Last time, I ended up with an undercooked ball of flimsy potatoes--straight to the compost bin. The hamburgers, tasty, yes, but maybe the sheen has worn off?
google avatar

Yelp
If I had to guess the burger pattys aren't thawed properly so they have a flavorless styrofoam consistency to them. The place itself was okay and the staff were friendly so that's something. Honestly you can just go to Jack in the Box and be better off.

Yelp
Lil Woody's is located in Ballard on NW Market Street where there are tons of restaurants, bars, and other businesses. There is no dedicated lot for the restaurant but there is street parking in the neighborhood. They have other locations throughout Seattle including Capitol Hill, White Center, and even one in T-Mobile Park. I had the big woody ($9.50) and the side of fries ($3.50). The burger was good but was nothing mind-blowing. The fries were thinner and not super crispy so you get a lot of smaller burnt pieces. They gave huge portions even for a side though which made up for it. In the past Lil Woody's has partnered with local Seattle chefs to create unique burgers and has also created their own takes on popular fast food burgers. I like the creativity and the new things they bring out and their normal burgers are pretty good too.

Yelp
Lil Woodys used to be a staple and go to for take out but it's food has gone downhill. The fries we ordered were covered in grease and were mushy. The burger I ordered came with mushrooms also covered in grease with a mushy bun. I didn't end up eating the food. A real bummer because I used to love this place.

James P.

Yelp
For the ingredient quality and price this is by far best burger place in this area; it's hard to get grass fed patties elsewhere. Onion rings are also how I like them and the milkshakes are good too.

Antonio S.

Yelp
Wow! The Cap Hill Fried Chicken is Delicious! Service was quick and easy. When you walk through the door you are greeted by music you can't help but vibe to, and a friendly smile. The menu is super legible and makes ordering a breeze. I'm glad I tried this place, you will be too!
google avatar

Rachana R.

Yelp
I enjoyed my burger but I found the fries to be a little too greasy. They were tasty, but weren't crispy at all. Service was pretty fast but the restaurant was mostly empty when I came. Would recommend the chipotle mayo dipping sauce!

Yelp
On my continued unofficial, unannounced burger tour, where I try out all the burger places I'm pointed to or just come across, it was time for Lil' Woodys. The options here off the bat make it appealing, you can get a signature - Lil' Woody or Big Woody, there are preset specialty burgers like the - 'Smoked Out' or the 'Trotter' which of course have their on toppings or sauces and then there is build your own which let's you customize. I kept it simple with the Big Woody - pickles, tomato, lettuce, sauce. Told them to hold the pickles. The burger had that old school, grilled taste. It was pretty good, Not big, or small which allows for focus on all the additions to each burger. That was the case for the B. W. I got. Fresh lettuce, tomato slice didn't overtake the patty and good burger flavor as was the sauce which was like a siracha ketchup. Of course the bacon was good. No issue there. A side of fries in easily shareable and plenty for one. Prices are OK, but off the bat a build your own will be a bit more money, so consider a preset/specialty. They're good but a bit thin. Lil Woodys is solid. The prices aren't old school like say Dicks, but the flavor and presentation is. For a quick burger in the center of town, Lil Woodys has got it.
google avatar

Jared S.

Yelp
soggy fries for a place with "fry shakes" as a big sell isnt cool. also better float presentation would be huge

Suzy Q.

Yelp
Yuck, what happened to Lil Woodys?? The veggie burger is so dry it crumbles to pieces as you try to eat it. The fried chicken sandwich is tiny and flat with 3x the amount of iceberg lettuce to chicken. The fries were so oily they glistened and were soggy. A burger came w/o the bacon. Just bad all around. There are many much better burger places in the area imo.
google avatar

Owen L.

Yelp
everything except the bread and meat was old and wilted the tomatoes were soggy the lettuce was very old the burger patty and bacon was ok not good for 13$ it had little pices of old onion and pickle it was gross
google avatar

Yelp
A burger staple in the NW! Haven't been at any of the locations in a few years and was enticed by their seafood month menu they're collaborating with chefs in seattle. The Frank's oyster house collab oyster burger was absolutely delicious! Only downside that in its cool packaging got quite soggy and thus the 4 out of 5 stars. The sauce and pickled jalapeño was so tangy and has the perfect balance of flavors. I used to always go for the fig and the pig and it used to just hit the spot. Maybe I'll come back soon to retry an old classic. You also can't go wrong with the lil or big woody staples - I have never been crazy about their fries as it's soggy and a grease bomb but if that's your thing, you probably would love it. I noticed that they changed the "crack" to "shake fries" - anyone know when this change in nomenclature occurred?!?!
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Just a heads up for those w/ gluten sensitivities - they do have gf buns available. That said, I went and got a burger on a gf bun and shared fries with my friend. I definitely got glutened. Could have been the fries?
google avatar

Mckinnley C.

Yelp
Honestly one of the worst burgers ive had in years, the paddy was clearly the lowest quality frozen meat available and wasnt seasoned in the slightest, truly an insult to the neighborhood to think they would charge over 10 dollars for this horse shit
google avatar

Wade G.

Yelp
Kind of makes me sad to do this. This lil Woody's has been my jam since we moved to Ballard. Every Wednesday I come here during my lunch break to get a nice little treat for myself. Since I'm gluten free it has been awesome having a good burger I can eat so easily available to me, that was until today. I came in today and got my favorite burger, the Trotter on a gluten free bun, and was very stoked. The heat has been kicking my butt so I was thrilled to just take thirty minutes to myself and enjoy one of my comfort foods. Sadly those hopes were dashed the second my food came to me. Not only was I given a normal bun, but also my burger had no burger. Instead it was just a soggy mess of toppings void a pattie, served in a bun that would cause me to recreate the scene from the exorcist in the lobby of this restaurant. So I go up to the front and tell the dude behind the counter that my burger has no burger and I'm pretty sure the bun is wrong. He apologized, honestly he was good and tried his best the fault was in the kitchen, and told me he'd get it fixed asap. Minutes later, not a good sign honestly, a burger is brought back to me. This burger is on a gluten free bun and does have a burger on it, but the bun is soaking wet and it's obvious from the messy state of the burger that they just scraped all the toppings off the first burger and chucked them on this one. If it was a gluten free bun I'd get it, but your kitchen should know if some one is ordering that they can't just cross contaminate like that. I didn't have time to argue the point so I tossed my burger and went back to work. It just breaks my heart that I can't trust this place any more. Don't eat here if you have any dietary restrictions, this place could care less about people like us.
google avatar

Yelp
We dropped into Lil Woody's today to take a fun lunch break from the Ballard Market. Amazing!! There were five of us having different burgers, including an ultimate burger for our vegetarian. The shared fries and onion rings, one order of each was generous enough to satisfy everyone. I had the Fig and the Pig and it was flavorful and filling. Great place and will definitely come back again!!
google avatar

Yelp
It's seafood month at Lil Woody's. So excited for this sandwich collaboration with Seabird. As you can see what is advertised is not what you get unfortunately. Something has happened with quality control here on a massive scale. I'm giving 2 starts because the queso was the only edible and delicious thing. Fries totally raw. You can tell just by looking at them, but someone decided "there fine" and tossed them in the bag. Same goes for the sandwich. Non-existent fish and slaw. All breading and the few grey pieces of fish I found were dry and hard. Think "Christmas Vacation Turkey implosion" dry. Not happy Lil Woody's! I know staffing sucks right now but come on! I'll still be back for your delicious standards though, maybe....
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
Hands down probably one of the greatest burgers I've ever had. I got the new Mexican and I absolutely loved it. The green chili was on point.
google avatar

Alan B.

Yelp
So I was traveling out of country for a bit and I had a choice of what my last meal in America was going to be...I know being in Seattle, I could've gone seafood or something in that realm but I was compelled in getting a burger. So my friend recommended Lil Woody and after taking a look at their menu I was convicted. I got the Trotter because of the horseradish sauce and of course the bacon bits and I tell you it did not let me down! The meat was perfect and everything seemed to melt in mouth. The fries were hella good too, it went well with all the Trotter drippings, shoot I wish I ordered a side of their horseradish sauce and mayo for them. I'm for sure coming back!

Yelp
I have lived in Seattle for about 9 years and have been to every Lil Woody's location in the city. This is my fav burger place. The Smoked Out is my go to, but I love their burgers of the month/week. Fast food month is something I look forward to every year. Ambiance is very chill, order at the counter and find a table. Staff is always cool too. Love meeting friends here for food, and bringing visitors from out of town.
google avatar

Yelp
Getting take out from li'l woody's for the first time since covid shutdown. I have been to the south lake Union location once before and thought we'd try Ballard location. We ordered fried chicken sandwich, smoke out burger and black bean burger. The taste, I give them 3.5 stars. They are pretty average, not too impressive.
google avatar

Nick M.

Yelp
The server was great and the food was prepared on time. However, when I got home with my food my wife discovered the fries weren't fully cooked or maybe they were prepared wrong. I dont know. But they are burned, beyond greasey, and feel completely uncooked. These were $7. These are the worst fries I've had ANYWHERE, even worse than McDonald's, so that says a lot. I would never order from here again.
google avatar

Angela A.

Yelp
We came here for the first 3 weeks of burger month, and each time we experienced great service and good eats! Highlights: - BURGERS - onion rings - the sauces! Would skip: - fries Both the chicken burger & traditional cheeseburger (week 3 burger ran out) were terrific, as well as the "Bombay Joe". Although they were all significantly different, the proteins were prepared excellently & tasted well-balanced. The first time we tried all of the sauces () and there were so many good ones, but the chipotle mayo & horseradish mayo were the standouts. Onion rings are also excellent - crispy and the onions break well when you bite into them. I would skip the fries (unless you're a fan of thin, limp sticks of fried potato - this isn't an insult, just the most accurate way I can describe them). In summary, stick to the burgers (of all kinds!) & onion rings - sample the fries if you're feeling bold

Yelp
Neighborhood favored and the crew was nice and friendly, helpful and very outgoing. Thank you little Woodies for being so nice and friendly, and the food is outstanding.

Yelp
This place is HORRENDOUS!!!!!!!!!! Have went here multiple times due to my work being near and since Great State closed this is now the closest burger place. The last time I went there was chewed gum in my burger! It sounds so outlandish that you wouldn't believe it, but it definitely happened. The first time I went there the guy at the register wouldn't give me a discount so that I could pay with my only $10 bill. So l had to downgrade my order so that I could afford it, but this time the worker used the employee discount so that he would get a bigger tip since they are not able to give change for cash payments. The fries also are just terrible and expensive just as everything else on the menu is.

Yelp
Great burger oasis in hipsterland usa. I played little league on a team called the woody's lol no relation to lil woody's. I'm not sure if they sponsor a little league team but these cats know how to grill up some cow and deep fry stuff. their house dipping sauce is outstanding. great vibe and customer base. People seem to leave the Seattle Freeze at the door. Thanks Woody, if only the rest of Seattle were as chill as you, it would be a great city.

Yelp
Came here a couple days ago to try the new Burger Month series they are doing at Li'l Woody's. This week's was designed by Chef Kenji Lopez-Alt and was a Korean inspired fried chicken burger. We ordered and sat down in their little patio area out front, which will definitely be a nice place to go as Seattle warms up more, and we were served pretty quickly. The burger was made incredibly well and the chicken was juicy and tender on the inside with a crispy fried outer shell. Although I haven't had the chance to try their normal menu, based on the meal that I had I definitely will be coming back again for more!
google avatar

Lulu L.

Yelp
I've tried a good chunk of their menu and all of it is incredibly good. When you're craving a great burger and nothing else will do, this will do the trick. Also, while I'm not a vegetarian, I frequently eat veggie burgers and theirs is every bit as tasty as their beef options. Wonderfully friendly service, too!
google avatar

Medrese M.

Yelp
I eat here a couple times a month and I'm always satisfied. The queso is my go-to, though I wish the fries were different. I love the special burgers they offer, they're always excellent. My other go-to is the Good Mornin' Woody with a burger patty. The service here is much better than the one in Cap Hill.
google avatar

Caroline S.

Yelp
Lil woody's burgers. Mua~ Honestly chef's kiss! Always on point with 'em juicy beef patties. My friends tried the GOOD OLD BURGER x Canlis restaurant. $10 well spent ;) I m allergic to wheat so I always order my BIG WOODY with lettuce wrap, and let me tell you: it's no ordinary lettuce wrap. Those are some of premium lettuce; I am honestly curious where they got them. Must try if you don't wanna those carbs. They now offer gluten free buns as wel. Also highly recommend the ONION RINGS - not too oily, extremely hot and crispy. Almost no separation of onion and the breading, the indication of bad onion rings. We always get fries. Their CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE is bomb.com too.
google avatar

Leeza M.

Yelp
I came especially to try the burger of the week, which was from one of my favorite chefs, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt. I had really high hopes for this Korean chicken sandwich, and it kind of left a lot to be desired. First, my sandwich had a super dinky piece of chicken, while my boyfriend's was big and juicy. (Photo shown is my boyfriends, the other was mine). The chicken itself was really nicely cooked, but really greasy. I wish that there was more Korean flavor in the breading, and the spice levels were inconsistent. HOWEVER the Gochugaru ranch was insanely delicious. The fries were slightly crispy and very nicely seasoned. I highly recommend the fry sauce! Service was really fast and there's plenty of seating inside. I'm definitely going to come here again to try a regular burger.

Yelp
Going to Lil' Woody's during burger month is something I'd been wanting to do for years, and I can finally say that I did it! Hilariously, I did not get the burger of the week but my boyfriend did. We went during "The Homersapien" week, which was: lamb patty, Port Salut cheese, za'atar spiced chips, chanterelles, whipped garlic, and date ketchup. It was AMAZING! Such an interesting upgrade to the good ol' beloved burger, and the chips gave it such an awesome texture contrast. I had "The Trotter" which had caramelized onions, apples, without the horseradish. I must say that I'm typically not a fan of burgers with no fresh veggies in it, but the quality of the patty in this burger made it extremely enjoyable. I wouldn't call myself a burger connoisseur, but the patties here are noticeably superior compared to other local burger joints! The onion rings were also one of the best I've had, which means I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
I've visited the Lil woodys near capital hill, I never knew there was one near my job in Ballard, Seattle.. the food is alright like 3.8.. no dine-in idk why considering most restaurants are already doing dine-in, maybe this team dont want to clean up, who knows, the scapegoat is covid I'm sure.. They didn't get the memo, CDC says no mask needed, i still old sign from Inslee first order lol... The lady there treated me like I wasn't a value guest, especially a consistent one whose always supporting local business.. but that support was killed by them.. sad to say that my fav burger joint (primarily near capital hill) was killed by this one... I will continue with 8oz burger from now on..

Yelp
Ballard location is lacking quality control. Cheese was ice old and not melted on my burger. Enormous amount of iceberg lettuce. Huge chunks of onion and pickle. I should have taken a picture before dissecting this BS burger.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
As much as I want to support local businesses, I can't with this one. Ordered a Lil' Woody, fries, and chocolate shake via Postmates. It was delivered super fast! The shake was good. The burger was tasteless, had a pre-fab texture, and arrived all squished. I expect delivery didn't help but I want better flavor. The fries are hand cut with good flavor but not fried enough as they looked like soggy worms.

Yelp
For the month of October, Li'l Woody's is dedicating each week to imitating a signature fast food item from popular fast food chains. This week they imitated Mcdonald's Big Mac, and they cleverly named it "Lil Big Mac." The first week was Wendy's Baconator, second was Jack-in-the-Box's Sourdough Jack, and I'm excited to go back next week to try their take on Taco Bell's Crunch Wrap Supreme! Today I went in to try their Lil Big Mac... and if you're a fan of Mcdonald's big mac, you'd fall in love with this, but it's only available 10/15-10/21 since it is only part of "Li'l Woody's Fast Food Month" special!!! Inside the burger were 2 of their grass-fed beef patties, 2 cheese slices, shredded iceberg lettuce, diced dill pickles and onions, as well as fry sauce which i'm guessing imitated Mcdonald's big mac sauce. Built like a big mac, but the quality and taste were 10x better than the original signature big mac from Mcdonald's. I have to say that I'm not that big of a fan of their fries, but they had a good variety of sauces to choose from- fry sauce, tarter sauce, ketchup, bbq sauce, spicy mayo, etc. which were an additional 55 cents each. Their milkshake menu exceeds your average milkshake flavors. I tried their chocolate with malt, which definitely tasted like malt way more than chocolate, and their thai tea milkshake. Although the tea flavor was on point, it tasted too milky for me. Aside from that, the service was good and the place was clean. Looking forward to visiting again!

Yelp
I have been craving a Li'l Woody's burger for about a month and I'm so glad I finally went! I never usually eat beef but I decided to splurge and this is the perfect spot to do so! It was midday and I was happy to get a seat! Wish it was a little nicer out because I would've certainly taken advantage of the outdoor seating! The food came out super quick and everything was cooked to perfection. Just as good as I remembered last time! The restaurant was super clean and the staff were friendly! I couldn't decide what I wanted for a good minute but I didn't feel rushed to order which was nice! This time around I got The Fig and The Pig burger which was sooo good and I got a side of queso and fries! If you're in Ballard and want a good burger this is definitely the spot! All the portions are great sizes and great prices to match the top notch food. Everything always tastes amazing!!

Yelp
One of my goals is to visit every burger spot in Ballard while I live here. So today I decided to try Li'l woody's with my dad. It's a cool little burger spot with a lot of good surrounding food businesses such as coffee spots, desserts, and beer. I got their Li'l woody signature burger which was alright. Honestly nothing special in my opinion and just reminds me of a fast food burger. My dad got the big woody burger and loved it! Honestly I should have gone with that burger. I would like to go back and try the fries and the different dipping sauces.

Yelp
I dropped in to grab Kenji's spicy chicken sandwich and it might have been one of the most disappointing sandwiches I've ever had. No salt, no spice, really overcooked, stringy meat, half of it was so tough and inedible that neither my wife nor I finished them. The standard burger is okay but at $8 there are better burgers around (Burb's, 8 oz, Mean sandwich). Fries are thin and floppy (think Dick's). Overall, disappointing on several fronts.
