This was the best meal we had in Stockholm and we did not have reservations and arrived at about 6 for 4 of us. We did have to wait about 50 minutes and they do not have waiting area for you to sit so be aware of that but you can stand outside or inside corridor and have drinks while waiting It was absolutely worth it as everything single dish whether the bread and butter, the starters to mains and dessert was absolutely fantastic

The common appetizer - ciabatta bread bun with the nutty butter spread was really good. For a vegetarian appetizer, they replaced the tuna in the tuna tartar with broccoli- which was amazing. They nailed the flavor depth and profile. The reindeer steak main course could have been cooked a teensy bit more. The sesame seed chocolate dessert was amazing as well

Hidden local gem in Stockholm! It was my second time here and noticed the menu has changed with seasonal dishes. All the dishes were great, attention to detail. I highly recommend to book in advance.

Great restaurant and a bang for the buck if you’re looking for a fancy restaurant to celebrate a special occasion! Got to know about this place from a friend, and it did not disappoint. We got 2 starters (the tuna tartare and fermented herring), the slow cooked pork belly and the crème brûlée for dessert. We also paired this with 2 glasses of white wine. It’s hard for me to explain why each dish was done well, but I can say that there were definitely no regrets and would order them again! The combination of flavors is exciting and delicious. The staff was very hospitable and always made sure we were well taken care of. There is quite some wait if you did not make a reservation previously, but I’d still recommend giving it a shot.

WORTH THE HYPE. This place was absolutely delicious and inventful! Casual, not stuffy and stylish spot. Had a 9.30 pm reservation and were sat outside. The server was friendly and fantastic. Heads up - Server did tell us that if we planned to eat past 11 we'd have to move inside as its in a quiet residential area. But no need to - the service and food delivery was prompt and we were hungry. My partner had a delicious pork belly main with pickled zucchini. I had the few bites he'd share, and it was mind-blowingly good. I had serious fomo. However, my dish was a steak with a brocolli disc puree on it was standout as well. In addition we had the scallop avocado ice cream appetizer - super tasty. Great service, great food. Don't miss out! I will think about this meal for years to come.

Absolutely fantastic. Every dish was delicious, including the desserts—especially the apple one. The service was excellent, and our waiter was super friendly and had a great sense of humor. As expected for this type of restaurant, portions are small, but it's all about savoring the richness of each dish. If you're looking for a filling meal, this might not be the place, but if you enjoy a refined culinary experience, it's perfect. Reservations are probably needed in advance, but it’s totally worth it. The quality is outstanding for the price. The only downside to the ambiance was the limited space—people kept bumping into my chair. Also, the music felt a bit off for the vibe, but nothing major. If I’m back in town, I’ll definitely return!

We came at 19 without a reservation and had to wait 15-20min before we got a table. The food was simply fantastic. The server was friendly and me and my wife enjoyed the dinner a lot. If you couldnt get reservation, try your luck, it is worth the wait!

Warm, intimate setting. Friendly and attentive wait staff. Food is superb. We had the tuna for a starter, pork belly and beef sirloin for mains, and an apple with sorbet dessert. Their Lilla Ego lager is excellent. We walked in on a Thursday night without a reservation just hoping for seats at the counter. We were greeted amicably by one of The Chefs (!) and shown to their waiting area. Offered drinks in this area and menu is available to browse as well as articles about the restaurant on the walls, mini Connect 4. After perhaps 20 minutes we were shown to a table, amazing. We had an 1:15 time limit but this was plenty of time to enjoy our meal. So glad it worked out for our last night in Stockholm.

Warm and fun atmosphere with stunning food. I will never forget the chanterelle starter! Truly a work of art (I almost never snap a picture of food and I couldn't help but take one it was so pretty). The flavors were amazing but it is quite rich so I was happy to share with my husband this one and the salmon appetizer (also very very good but not as outstanding). The mains were tasty but a bit heavy of the salt (especially the veal). Loved the way the chef incorporated a hit of acidity/fruit in the dishes - especially the witch flounder main. We were too full for dessert (but I regret not trying a bite). We loved sitting at the bar and watching the chefs work. Prices were reasonable and service was excellent. Highly recommend you give this place a visit - NY Times and Michelin were right about this place.

This is what it's all about: a new city, a new culture and its interesting. The inventiveness was off the charts but what suffered was that elusive quality in new enterprises: subtlety. If your taste buds are fading, go here; if you want be served with class and charm, go here, if you want dishes you won't get anywhere else GO HERE.

Got lucky and scored a walk-in bar seating for two after waiting an hour and 20 minutes. We waited at the tables outside along with about 6-8 other people who also dropped in for walk-in. So rest assured you will most likely have company while you wait to be seated. Service and ambiance excellent! Menu was slightly limited compared to what I was expecting, based on previous Yelp reviews. There is only one menu (see photo) and no more tasting menu. The lengthy dessert menu is written in Swedish on the wall (we were too full to get dessert). (Note: they should really translate this to English!) There is also an extensive wine and drink list. Started off with delicious bread and butter. Ordered Swedish strawberry flavored beer, surprisingly strong but not bad and not too sweet. Appetizers we got the blackened salmon and pan fried turbot. Salmon was just okay while the turbot was very tender and very fresh and delicious. Entrees we ordered the leg of a rooster and the cod. Both were delicious. Saw other people order the steak which looked amazing though but we wanted to try the seafood while in Stockholm. Wish they had a larger selection of items and still kept the tasting menu. The food was delicious and carefully prepared in the open kitchen. I would recommend this restaurant if you're visiting and looking to enjoy local fine dining. Especially excellent for a date night!

Food: 5 (really innovative) ambience: 5 (in the casual and cosy category) service: 4.5 value: 5 ($80 USD for a three course dinner including tips) My absolute favorite restaurant in Stockholm at the moment where I can experience top notch Michelin level culinary innovation in a much more cosy and casual way. [Sorry disclaimer: I dislike having to dress up to have haute chic food] The local TV show celebrity chef was in the kitchen and he graciously recommended the Pork or Duck for that night. I opted for the duck which turned out to be outstanding! For the food I had that night, the taste was so complex yet so integrated. It's unique and has strong characters! (Unlike some other Michelin restaurants in NY where they emphasize too much in being balanced and ending up being bland), the food here will definitely get you reach foodgasm!!

Delicious. Did a walk in and was able to get a table for two quite easily. Presentation and food itself was one of my favorite meals in Sweden. Will absolutely return next time i'm in Stockholm.

This place have a pretty high pressure to deliver, when the reviews are more or less flawless and the tables are sold out for the following months. You could easily think that this would make them shiver and maybe make them stumble on the finish line....but they dont! I got lucky and found a cancelled table a few days in advance. The booking was on and all i have to do was make my way here on time. Once i got here we got the prime table right in front of the window and the casual ambience striked me right away. We got the menus together with some recommendations from the waiter which we obeyed. The 3-course dinner was just about right amount of food, and the flavors was fun and different as well. The courses arent anything you will find on a regular lunch menu which makes it a lot more fun. And they siwtch the menus now and then to mix it up a bit. The service is very proper and casual, without being up tight. Those guys really love their job, and the customers can see it. I cant and wont complain about anything, except the fact that the forks ran out in the bin on the table. And if that is the worst thing that could happen, i guess its a pretty awesome food experience!

My second visit was not as obvious as the first. The starter, Oklassisk hästtartar med hasselnötter (Unconventional horse tartare with hazelnut) was exceptionally tasty. I think it hit my culinary ceiling; I can't remember enjoying anything more than this (although I can recall several occasions of equal gastronomic joy). The dessert, a crème brûlée with goat cheese, however, was so salty that it was almost inedible (and I like salt). And the main course was somewhere in between. But I like the idea of Lilla Ego. It is ambitious but unpretentious; that is rare and wonderful. In fact, I would like to write down the inedible dessert to experimentalism, which is a trait I would not want to discourage. So, my five Yelp stars remain untouched. And if I get a third chance to visit, I will not waver.

We arrived early at 440pm on Friday evening without a reservation (they have 9 spots on the bar with a view of the kitchen and the chefs at work), the best spot in the House! The slot was only 2 hours but it was more than sufficient. Food was amazing and good quality. For appetizers, we had the mushrooms and the tuna tartare. Would have definitely tried the caviar starter as well. For mains, we had the veal and the turbot. It was delightful as well.

This was hands down my favorite meal of the trip. I splurged on a half bottle of champagne and the sturgeon caviar. Who knew potato pancakes would make such a great accompaniment to caviar?! Not this lady! But they were light, not greasy, and brought out the flavor of the caviar nicely. I came alone and was lucky enough to get a seat at the bar (this is where you can watch the chef's prepare meals) after a 30 minute wait. Go here, splurge, leave happy.

Amazing. And not even that expensive, at least by my Califoreigner standards. Rumor has it that it takes weeks to get a reservation here, but my coworker and I (traveling on business) decided to chance a walk-in anyway. Are we glad we did. After having a quick drink in what I will call their "waiting hallway" (it's tiny, not a bar, and it's how you get to the bathroom but it does have a shelf for drinks!) for about 20 minutes, we were given a choice of a "table for 90 minutes" or a "bar seat for 2 hours." I had never been given such a choice before, but took it in a good way to mean that they would actually honor someone else's later reservation for the night. We took the table, and used about 89 of those 90 minutes. They had an English menu, but I didn't trust myself to choose "correctly" from it, and my coworker was willing to share some risk! So we did whatever the Swedish word would be for Omakase and asked the waiter to choose a few things for us, with notice that we "would eat anything." And did he ever choose well: for appetizers, he recommended the lobster (which came swimming in a perfectly seasoned sauce) and horse tartare (which was perhaps the most tender and perfect seasoned tartare I've ever had), and for mains chose the lamb (again, perfectly tender and magically sauced) and the reindeer, which was perhaps the star of the night, including - I sh!t you not - a 2mm thick "puck" of solid truffle butter on top, which melted onto the meat below. Almost forgot: all of this was preceded by a fresh roll served with some sort of whipped butter concoction on a mini plate below it. I'm not selling it well, but it made the pre-appetizer roll ritual something special. It's worth mentioning that I'm something of a pro-salt eater, and all of these dishes had what I would call "just perfect" salting. Dessert had to be rushed a bit to stay in our 90 minute limit, but it was also first class - a perfectly executed lava cake. In the end the damage from this including service and one drink each was "only" $80 per person. I'm telling myself it would've been much more in SF. Next time I'm in Stockholm, I'll see if they'll take another walk-in.

This was seriously one of the best meals we ever had. My husband said: "Can we give it 7 stars?" During our recent trip, we weren't able to make table reservations, but the good news is that they keep seats at the bar open for walk-ins. There are about 8 seats at the bar available, and even if none are open when you arrive, chances are some of those seats will open up at least within a half hour. My husband and I were in and out in an hour, but we could have dawdled if we wanted to. We arrived at around 7 and was lucky there were two available seats at the bar. The chef himself seated us! I almost preferred the bar seating as we got to watch the chefs in action. So calm, so precise, so organized. I cannot stress enough how amazing, innovative and unique the food here at Lille Ego was. We pine after their food almost every week. They have ruined fine dining for us, as the food was such a high calibre, their attention to detail was impeccable, but at very reasonable prices given the quality. Seriously, come here - you will NOT regret it. I still dream about their macadamia creme brulee with goat cheese foam...

We had a wonderful meal here. My wife and I had potato pancakes with bleak roe and creme fraiche. The cod entree and the smoked veal were perfectly seasoned. The wine , a Spanish Godello , went with all our food. The service was efficient but not obtrusive.

Yes! This place totally lives up to the hype. We snagged a last min Rez here and made it for a 3 course dinner that was superb. The bread was a bit tough but I'm not sure if Swedes like it that way. The wine was excellent. For apps, I had the asparagus and my husband had the scallops. Then we had the lamb and the halibut. Both were outstanding and the flavor and texture combinations were very unique. Everything was crazy fresh. I was worried the lamb would be gamey and it wasn't at all. Finally, we were stuffed but knew we had to try the dessert here so we shared the raspberry sorbet dessert for 2. Ah-mazing. Do it!

A Stockholm favourite - top notch chef's that surprices you every time. Bookin advance, or sit at the bar and eat - works great also

I couldn't believe it when we walked in and managed to snag two seats at the bar. Pro-Tip: Come around 9:30-10pm if you don't have a 3 month reservation and you might luck into last minute seating. The man at the bar that served as our waiter? Tom Sjostedt. Yea, one of the head chefs served as our waiter. First off, I love bread. This bread was freaking amazing. It came on top of a dish of finely crumbled butter with sunflower seeds grounded on top. I swooned. Then, we had Horse Tartare. It tasted like the finest fatty tuna ever. I was shocked. I couldn't believe my taste buds. I swooned some more. For mains, we had the Ratatouille and the Veal. The chicken and the eggplant in the Ratatouille were mind boggling. Chicken is chicken to me, but they managed to make chicken taste like...No words. Just delicious. The Veal was plated with such precision while we watched, it was exactly like watching a master at work. Tender, juicy, remarkable. And then the LillaEgg Sorbet for 2. I thought my boyfriend was going to dump me and marry this desert, right then and there. There were so many components but they all worked together so deliciously. I've eaten at the best restaurants, but Lilla Ego...they're experimenting here and it's something amazing to taste. Thus concludes the best meal ever in Stockholm. P.S. This is also relatively affordable. Don't disappoint me. Go here.

Got lucky enough to be seated almost immediately at a table for 2 as walk-ins at this highly popular place. I think it helped that we went later at night. Service was great and the interior is very cosy. The start is definitely the food though. We started with the roe that comes with some sour cream and onions and goes on top of their fried potato pancakes. It's pretty price at 25 euros for 2 people, but it was good. Not sure if I'd order it again considering the price, but I understand that stuff is expensive, and the presentation was great. For dinner I had the smoked veal with frozen ramson butter and black morel gravy. This was my favorite dish of my 10 days traveling around scandinavia and the baltics. Every bite was just so damn good. I decided to order desert based on how good the main course was, so I got the creme brulee with macadamia nuts and topped with whipped goat cheese. Absolutely perfect. So glad I gave the thumbs up to dessert. This place is in a quiet neighborhood north of downtown, but if you get a chance to make it out here, you won't regret it. I understand it can be hard to get reservations, but I think this is the kind of place that is worth taking a chance on walking in and being turned away. Seems like you have a better chance if you go after the main dinner rush.

My mission today was to go off the beaten path and then see what top 5 restaurants in Sweden I could get into. I started here as it is supposedly the number one restaurant in all of Stockholm. I was worried I would not get a table so I went to my hotel till a nap and woke up to have late night dinner but it did not feel late since the sun does not go down until like 930 and it's still light at 10. I was worried first that I would not get in and that it was fancy. I was wrong on both. Very casual and I Arrived here on a Tuesday night at 10pm. I was immediately seated at the bar and probably could have asked for a table and they would have given me one. The bar is the place to sit you can watch them prep all of your food at the bar. It's like watching iron chef. I ordered a Riesling, pan fried lobster and chocolate mousse. The food came out very quickly and since I am alone I ate it just as quickly. The Riesling was amazing and they even game me a taste to ensure I liked it. Classy! I then started with the pan fried lobster as I wanted to make sure I could enjoy it all. I have lived in Maine so they had high standards to meet. The lobster was small and I was worried it would be too dry and no taste. I was wrong. It was very sweet, I wish they used less salt but the overall meal was so out of this world that I got past this issue very quickly. Now onto the chocolate mousse which my server at the bar highly recommended. What he did not know is I am a chocolate mousse connoisseur as my mom used to make it for me and I live and die for the best mousse so challenge accepted and I ordered it. The mousse is freshly prepared as is all of the food. The mousse was as good if not better than what my mom used to make for me. I am dumbfounded how this place is not Michelin started but who needs that when you are the number one restaurant on TripAdvisor and Yelp. Best experience thus far in Sweden.

Really good food in a cozy environment. Yes, this is a restaurant in Stockholm that realizes good and innovative food doesn't have to cost a crazy amount. I also appreciate the cozy space. I've been here twice now and would have booked a third time, but the staff wouldn't let me book another table while I was in the restaurant. OK if this is their policy but they let me do it the last time I ate there. The problem was that the man I spoke with went so far as to insult me by saying that they didn't like to book tables directly with people when they were physically IN the restaurant because they have to book a few months' out and people forget and so he imagined that I personally might be "in the club" and then realize (at 3 am?) I had booked a table at Lilla Ego that night and so, yes, that was WHY. I told him I put it directly in my phone upon booking (and really, what's the difference if one books online or in person--months out is months out?) but he refused to let me book while I was there. Weird. This exchange dampened my previous exuberance for Lilla Ego. I do give them props for good food at fair prices, but let's be straight. It's outrageous that Stockholm abides the pricing of its restaurant fare so that a restaurant like Lilla Ego stands out for doing something people should expect--nej, demand. I only hope more restaurants follow their example. And that they settle on their booking policy.

Wow! Words cannot describe how delicious and clever the meal we had at Lilla Ego. It was flawless from beginning to end, as was the service. I cannot recommend this spot enough. It will probably go down as one of the best dining experiences of my life. My boyfriend and I shared three appetizers and two deserts (they just all looked so good, we decided to sample these instead of the mains...however, if we hadn't been so full, we probably would've ordered some as well as every dish that walked out of the kitchen looked astounding. Beautiful presentation and flavours that will have your tastebuds dancing for days.

Best food I have had at any restaurant in recent memory. Have been feeling the spare, Nordic cuisine thing has become more "repetitive" than "played out", it was truly refreshing to eat food prepared in more complicated ways, but with the same excitement of usual juxtapositions and unexpected combinations. The chef is a true master. Can't wait to go back to Sweden this summer to try it in a different season. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

One of the best meals I've had anywhere, with some of the best service! Lovely, funny, charming staff. Totally surprising dishes that are super creative but also delicious and un-intimidating. Definitely have the potato pancakes with roe, and the Parmesan/mushroom dish was fantastic. Creme brûlée with goat cheese was also delightful!

Simply amazing, no fuzz food and drinks. I wish I could eat here everyday. Very friendly and helpful staff, who always help you selecting the best from the menu. Try it!

Thanks to a great tip from our hotel, We checked out Lilla Ego. It was a bit hard to find as it lacks a big sign, which may be in line with the "little ego" mantra. Nevertheless, we were hosted by the chef himself, and although we lacked a reservation, we were seated at the bar where we could watch our dinner being prepared. It felt like we were watching a chef Ramsey show, without the cursing and yelling. The preparation, attention to detail, and validation from the chef was impressive. The food was phenomenal. I had the crispy cod and my wife had the steak. Both cooked to perfection and with harmoniously matched flavors in the sauces. By far, our favorite meal in Stockholm.

Very nice environment and personal. Food is extremely decorative and a joy for the eyes. Personal is helpful with vegan options but the food won't deliver too price tag for non meat eaters.

Got in when all reservations are full for 3 months by showing up at 5:00 with just a party of 2. They seem to have about6 bar stools they give to walk ins and they were waiting outside in line for 30 minutes before it opened to get those seats. The place is not labeled in anyway from the outside. You could walk past it everyday and not notice. We live close and wanted to find a good date place. This was perfect for that. There are 3 little tables for 2 you can get for a quick meal at 1hour20minutes. Being from the US, that doesn't feel quick to us, so we were happy. Had Horse for appetizer, it was good. Had lobster and steak for our meals, they were good. Got cream brûlée for dessert, we didn't care for the goat cheese on top, we found it much too salty. Would have been perfect without that on top though, firm and delicious under the salty foam. We would go back but try a different dessert next time or get the goat cheese foam on the side so it doesn't ruin your dessert if you don't like it.
