Loved this airy, under-patronized space, well worth the hunt for parking. Ordering is via phone app from an online menu, or by a touch screen at the front, and the set up is somewhat self-serve, so there is less service interaction than in a traditional restaurant, but within its aspirations the service was prompt and attentive. All of the food arrived fresh and hot from the kitchen as each dish was prepared.
Our group of five ate family-style with a selection of dumpling, vegetable and noodle dishes. We started with a double order of the very fresh cucumber salad, and were amused to find the cucumbers were spiral cut, making them a bit challenging to divide. It was great that this place has a little 'bar' set up by the water dispenser where you can mix your own chili oil dipping dish from a selection of chili oil, vinegar, soy sauce, sriracha, and probably a couple more choices I missed. The bespoke chili sauce dip made a perfect complement to the cucumber salad, and indeed many of the dumpling and bun dishes as well.
The beef fried noodles were amazing, with a perfect, slightly chewy tooth to the noodles and a light, umami sauce. I was also blown away by how good their vegetable fried rice was -- a simple dish that is often gluey, warmed over, and mediocre, but here it came out piping hot and full of flavor. The dumplings and bao were uniformly excellent as well. The main disappointment of this meal was the General Tso's chicken which didn't have any discernible kick to it at all. It was perfectly okay, not bad in any way, just not very exciting.
We all agreed we'd like to come back and try more dishes, so this was a very happy discovery. The location is unfortunately remote from The Ave, and parking in the area is awkward, but I hope more people will get curious and check this place out, because it's a winner.
