"What It Is: A Detroit-style slice shop on 23rd street in Chelsea Perfect For: A Quick Meal, Serious Take-Out Operation Lions & Tigers & Squares serves Detroit-style pizza (i.e. rectangular pan pies with sauce on top of the cheese) in to-go boxes. You can only order a pie here, which consists of four thick slices and costs around $7. We tried the classic and liked it a lot - the only problem is that there’s nowhere to sit down while you eat. The Verdict: This pizza is good (and filling), so come here with a couple friends when you want an affordable meal." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg, chris stang, matt tervooren
"Located right off 16th and Valencia, Detroit Square Pizza is a take-out-only kiosk that’s making an obvious play for the inebriated Friday night crowd who won’t notice the fact their pizza barely tastes like pizza at all. The focaccia-like crust is made of 98% air, the cheese is almost nonexistent, and the sauce is strangely sweet. At $9 for two slices, it’s not a horrible deal, but that doesn’t matter when you consider that we couldn’t even finish a slice. Instead, walk the extra block to slightly more expensive (but significantly better) Joyride Pizza." - Ricky Rodriguez
"Aptly named after two local sports teams and the shape of their pizza of choice, Lions and Tigers and Squares is the perfect place for any homesick east Michigander to get their fix. Founded by Artichoke Basille’s Pizza co-founders Francis Garcia and Sal Basille, this Chelsea pizza shop offers a slim menu with about five pies, all of which include cheddar cheese." - Andy Hirschfeld
"Just as its name suggests, this counter- and standing-only spot serves Detroit-style pizza. No slices here: Pizza is served by the personal-sized pie, which comes cut into four squares." - Eliza Brooke
"Lions & Tigers & Squares — a Detroit-style pizzeria from the Artichoke Pizza guys — opened in Chelsea in May 2018 with a proprietary roni cup made by Hormel." - Eliza Brooke
