We've been passing by this restaurant on a regular basis in the four years since it moved from i-Park to Dr. Philips. Finally this evening we crossed the threshold and got ourselves a table. And meu deus, it was worth it!
On a Saturday night, the restaurant was full, but not overflowing; Even without a reservation, we were seated within 10 minuted, during which time we dove into the impressive menu, replete with classic Portuguese cod, shellfish and meat dishes. The decor, built around blue and white Portuguese tile-style wallpaper, was pleasing to the eye.
Once at our table, our super helpful and cheerful waitress Jessica helped us choose from the ample selection of at least two dozen dishes. We settled on the FRIGIDEIRINHA DE POLVO E LULAS - sauté of octopus and squid in a cast-iron skillet, accompanied by excellent Portuguese bread rolls. For our main courses, we chose POLVO À LAGAREIRO - broiled octopus covered with onions, tomatoes and peppers, and BIFE À PORTUGUESA - Portuguese Steak and Egg with white rice and fries, plus a vinho verde from the varied wine list - all our dishes memorable, generous and beautifully presented.
Jessica managed to tempt us to split a dessert, the DOCE DA AVÓ - "Grandma's Sweet" Layers of sweet cream, Maria biscuits and egg yolk crème topping, complemented by Lisbon's fine cafezinho (espresso).
We'll surely be back - there are so many other dishes to sample, especially the dozen or so types of bacalhau (cod).
