The 23 Best Restaurants In Peckham

"Peckham Levels is a food hall that can either feel full of life or completely soulless depending on when you visit (go in the evening for more of a buzz). But Senegalese stall Little Baobab and its hearty dishes bring enough soul to fill the entire floor of this ex-car park. The menu feels like it was made with curing a cold in mind: grilled chicken with caramelised onion and golden fish-filled pastries are tempting, but the lamb mafe—slow-cooked lamb in a peanut butter-heavy sauce—is the must-order. The sauce is thick, nutty, and comfortingly spicy, and it’s one of the most wholesome meals you can get in the area." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager, riaz phillips

London's Best Walk-In-Only Restaurants

"On the fifth floor of Peckham Levels, a food hall that depending on when you visit can either feel full of life or completely soulless, is Senegalese stall Little Baobab. Its hearty, traditional dishes with a twist have enough soul to fill the entire floor of this ex-car park. The menu feels like it was made with curing a cold in mind. Grilled chicken yassa with caramelised onion, and golden fish-filled fataya pastries all look tempting, but the creamy, peanutty lamb mafe is a must-order." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager

Our Favourite Black-Owned Restaurants In London

"Little Baobab’s signature slow-cooked lamb mafe makes us use the word ‘wholesome’ like we’re on a shopping spree for cottages and crochet patterns. It’s thick, nutty, and so hearty that you’ll forget you’re in a converted car park. On the fifth floor of Peckham Levels, this Senegalese spot is one of our London dining comfort blankets, complete with grilled chicken yassa, golden fataya, and of course, that must-order lamb mafe. " - team infatuation

This was my first time trying Senegalese food. I got the Dibi special and the quinoa fritters. Loved both. Total was £20. Huge portions, great value. I took about 6 pieces of lamb home since at least 12 came in the dish. Thank you!

UPDATE: Positive company response and was receptive to the feedback. So we look forward to returning at some point, like I said really easy fix and I'm sure they can do it based on their positive response to my review. Changed the service star from 3 to 4. The food tasted good but what we got was a very small portion for the price. I believe we paid around £14 but there was barely any meat or rice, the overall portion was small. It didn’t make sense why we waited for quite some time considering it wasn’t busy at all, we were the only eat-in customer and we saw one driver. We waited around 40 mins, both having the same dish. Lamb Mafe, enjoyed the intro to Senegalese food, just left feeling hungry which is never good. The dish was peanut buttery stew type with soft pieces of lamb, albeit such a small portion that let it down. If the price and size doesn’t bother you, do have a try! Such an easy thing to remedy.

Delicious food with a great view of London! The homemade ginger juice was also great. We will definitely be returning.

Absolutely phenomenal food. First time trying Senegalese food and I’m blown away. The thieboudienne (similar to jollof rice) was so packed with flavour, the mafe peanut stew had some delicious and tender cuts of lamb and the sides were fantastic too. Guy at the counter was also really nice. Highly recommend!

With all the options available at Peckham Levels, seeing Little Baobab offered Senegalese food I instantly had to try. There were several menu options that had me intrigued, however seeing Lamb Mafe which is a combination of the meat in a peanut sauce had me daydreaming about what it was like. When I collected my meal it is firstly presented so well and at a glance will have you want to get stuck in. I like a meal with a good amount of sauce, and with the contrast of colours from the rice and salad it was time. The only other time I'd had peanut in a dish is chicken satay, yet Lamb Mafe is on another level. Whatever was used to flavour this dish, with the combination of the lamb which is clearly slowly cooked with care, makeing this dish something you want more of. This dish makes me smile as did the guy who made it, now Senegalese cuisine needs exploring more!

I ordered the sweet potato fritters, which I have to say, were nice. The issue I had was the small amount of sauce that came with it; I only two out of four of the fritters, being frugal with the amount of sauce I had as there was little of it. I asked the lady who was before cordial and gregarious, how now become cold and dismissive, saying that the sauce comes with the approriate portion size. When I explained that I felt it was a small amount, she proceeded to ignore me, and asked to serve more customers which I felt was very disrespectful. When I kicked up a fuss, she continued to carry on as if weren't there. I don't normally leave reviews but this customer service was exceptionally bad.

Delicious! I had the spinach stew with millet, which was great and especially delicious with a bit of a spicy sauce she gave me when I asked. Would definitely come back for this. Also had the sweet potato and quinoa fritters which were excellent and a big hit with my 4 year old.

My favorite restaurant in London, hands down! Authentic Senegalese cuisine! Not a plethoric menu which for me is synonymous of quality. The dishes are exquisite, staff is friendly, and the place is magic. I love Peckham Levels, nice hidden spot in the heart of Peckham. I am very lucky to live nearby 😁 and I go there every day that I am off of work. Matter of fact, I am on my way there righ now, and will probably go watch a movie at Peckhamplex which is basically located in the same building. Whether you are African like me and misses food from home, or you want to experience real Senegalese cuisine, I can not think of a better place to recommend. ✨👌🏿
