Best Restaurants Near Los Angeles Hiking Trails | Eater LA

"Little French Bakery chef and owner Guillaume Sabbadin worked at Michelin-starred restaurants in France before moving to Los Angeles in 2001, working as a chef at Figaro Cafe and Crustacean for nearly two decades. In 2020, he opened this diminutive but mighty bakery and cafe with his wife, Deborah, in bustling Redondo Beach, expanding its items throughout the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and now offers cases full of pastries, cakes, breads, and more. Make sure to try the buttery croissants and superb baguette sandwiches filled with mozzarella and tomato, or ham and Swiss cheese, all of which work as terrific fuel pre- or post-hike in nearby trails in Palos Verdes." - Rebecca Roland

Finally tried this place, and I’m so glad I did! The moment I parked and stepped out of the car, I could already smell the butter in the air—always a sign that you’re about to walk into something freshly baked and dangerously good. The man inside greeted us right away, which was such a nice touch. I ordered the kouign amann with hazelnut chocolate (officially one of my new favorites!), plus the pain au chocolat, a classic croissant, and the cream cheese danish. Every single item was sooo good. Every bite had that perfect flaky crunch on the outside with soft, buttery layers inside. And the best part? Everything was still warm when we got it. I honestly can’t wait to come back. I’ve been craving that kouign amann even though I literally just had it yesterday… and thinking about it right now is making me drool. :)

Little French Bakery is THE best pastry shop I have ever been to. Having traveled the world and being a fan of delicious food, I am able to taste quality and this place has it by the truck load. Every day the pastries are made fresh, by hand. You will not find any premade, came from a commissary frozen confections here. Everything is delicious. I have tasted all they have to offer and all of it has exceeded my expectations for taste, quality, and presentation. The owners are wonderful, wholesome, and loving people that put all of their efforts into these glorious desserts and savory meals. Come for the delights, return for the love.

I know I had a strange request for the wife's Birthday being that it falls so close to the holidays, but they did'nt act as though i was unusual, and made the most artful cake within my specifications. It's so much better than i was able to put into words, and such a little romantic gesture for a quiet birthday that my wife prefers. And could it really look like art and still take OK? It was so very delish! AND I got a few pastries for breakfast while I was in, and those were like eating a flavorful cloud. I don't think words quite can describe, you just have to try them!

Ham and cheese croissant was solid. Almond croissant was good, but a little too sweet. The baguette was not authentic French, which given the name of the bakery is what I expect them to be going for. I can't pinpoint it exactly. The color felt a little too light and refined, it didn't have the dense crust and characteristic chew, and lacked the neutral to savory flavor of a real baguette--I feel like it had an almost subtle sweet or milk bread like taste.

Nice unassuming bakery with a few tables outside. I tried the salmon puff pastry and it was fantastic. Pastry was nice and light as expected and had a generous amount of salmon. I can’t remember the full description but I think it had a onion and cream cheese spread on it as well. They can toast it up so it is hot and crispy.

The Little French bakery lives up to its name entirely! Although it is small with bakery style counters, the quality of the food is 5 star or even more and lives up to the reputation of calling itself French !! They do not serve coffee and don’t have sitting space inside. However it is located next to a coffee shop that allows you to buy food from this bakery and relax with their coffee in a great ambiance. So it makes the perfect breakfast or just having a good time at anytime. Great even if you want to pick up the food and enjoy it at the beach close by. This bakery is highly recommended and I will be back to try more items there. The team is very nice and polite too.

Extremely responsive and nice. They asked me to pick a cake from their list. I placed an order for a birthday cake and it came out exactly how I imagined it. Not sure if the Chocolate Hazelnut Praline is always like this or if they customized it in any way for me, but this was perfect - creamy, fresh, no frosting, no sponge cake, not overly sweet, just an amazing crunchy layer at the bottom with a rich chocolate mousse. For me it was a huge win. Thank you!!

So many options for both savory and sweet bakery items - I could not decide what to get! Everything from smoked salmon pastry to wild mushroom to apple turnover to goat cheese prosciutto. I decided on the apple cinnamon puff pastry, ham & cheese croissant, cheese danish, and turmeric chicken. Everything was sooo good I need to come back to try one of everything!
