The Best New Restaurants in NYC

"With a $2 oyster happy-hour special, this place is an easy early-date option; the sepia-hued room — brass fixtures, wood paneling, and a massive three-paned arched window facing the sidewalk — reads like an Art Deco escape from East Williamsburg. I stayed for snacks like sausage-stuffed fried olives and a “fritti misti” of squash, sweet peppers, and purple-cauliflower florets that were as big and puffy as beignets. The skin-on fries are cooked in chicken fat, and the kitchen excels at fish: my favorite of the night was a crisp-seared mackerel topped with cracked olives and thinly sliced scallions in a tangy orange dressing." - Grub Street

What a wonderful gem 💎 in the heart of East Williamsburg. Strategically located one block from the Grand St. stop on the L train, (a handicap accessible station) and 1/2 block from the bus stop on Grand and close to the B43 connecting Greenpoint and Bed Stuy, Little Grand is humbly occupying the corner spot of Humbolt. The way the morning and afternoon light shines in on its outdoor seating or front of the house tables makes it feel warm and inviting. The golden accents, the marble counters of milky soap stone, and the unfinished wooden floors feel French or Italian, a nod to its sister restaurants of Hotel Delmano and D.O.C. In Williamsburg proper. The service is professional not pretentious which is exactly what this part of Williamsburg needs. This feels like a welcome addition to the improving neighborhood. As to the food. I’ve only had the burger and fries so far but the burger was one of the best I’ve had in our neighborhood. They also gave me the condiments I requested and the cornichon pickles were so delicious. I’m not a huge fan of shoe string potatoes but I ate almost all of them with the homemade ketchup and aioli. Yum 😋 The cocktails were on par and I can’t wait to see if they add rotating wines from D.O.C. As I’m a huge fan of Sardinian wine and Italian wine. They made my family feel very welcome and I would recommend this place to friends, lovers, and families. It’s just perfect. 😍

We went to Little Grand for brunch and had a wonderful experience! I had the best burger there. The kids loved the brioche French toast and yogurt with granola. The staff is super friendly and makes an awesome cappuccino! We will definitely be back soon.

Cute new spot that just popped up in the neighborhood! Nice and intimate atmosphere, yummy small plates, cocktails are good as well. We went on Friday night and they had a DJ live mixing records which is always lovely to see. All in all, great spot! Not the cheapest but good quality stuff.

We came in for a birthday celebration last month. I was blown away by the interior design. Michael was there and he took time to show us all the neat custom furniture and fittings he designed for the space. Every table, chair, lighting fixture, bathroom sink, etc is a sculpture fit for a museum. We just told chef Salem Williams to bring us her favorite dishes. It was a feast. Shrimp, clams, steak, deserts were all wonderful. I didn’t like the green beans but that might just have been the produce. The bar scene was hopping. Lots of young folk’s. reminiscent of Elaine’s in the 80’s. DJ adds to the fun. Bartender showing off his moves. My only complaint was the bench seating on the wall. There is a chair rail that kept pressure on my upper spine. That’s an easy fix. Also, the restaurant is hard to find. There is no sign on Grand St. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates very fine food and great atmosphere at a reasonable price.

This place is a little Gem in the heart of Brooklyn. As soon as I stepped inside I felt transported another time.. somewhere my artist self would have visited 100 years ago. It’s cozy, the big arched windows let the outside in just enough.. it’s a great place to go on a date, they have a full menu, from oysters to steak! That dry aged steak is going to hunt me. paired perfectly with a nice Matassa red wine… I’m an old school New Yorker and this place feels like the good old days. You must visit. They also have DJs some nights.. can’t wait to go back for that. Bringing all my friends!

Had Sunday evening dinner with three friends here. The place itself is really nice and the staff was great, but once the food arrived, we thought it was a joke: Two friends ordered the chicken skewers under the “Plates” section, assuming it was a main, but each of them got just one skewer on the plate. It was very basic and pretty salty. I had the steak tartare and it was also extremely salty and tiny portion for the price. I always try to support new businesses, especially when the service is good, but we walked out disappointed and honestly feeling robbed considering how small and simple the portions were. We were still hungry, which doesn’t make us want to go back anytime soon. Maybe cutting portions is their way of saving on costs and resources, but it came across as greedy and overpriced. It’s a pity because we live close by and everything else about the place was really nice. If the restaurant reaches out or wants to make this right, we’d be open to trying it again. Otherwise, we wouldn’t return by choice.

Fantastic drinks and bites in a lovely setting. The bar seating is great. They were less than half full the night I visited, but we still struggled to get staffs attention whenever we wanted to order. Hopefully they’re just working out the kinks and the service will improve as the bar settles into a rhythm.

Yelp
Great bar and restaurant with a very relaxing atmosphere and a skilled bartender. I didn't try any food, but the small menu makes me hopeful that they will meet my expectations.
