11 Exciting Things To Do In NYC Between July 21st and July 25th

"You may think you know the deal with this new tourist-infested, human-made lifted landmass now plopped in the Hudson River, but we have some tips. The best way to experience Little Island is to arrive between 6am and 12pm - that way you won’t need to reserve a free timed ticket ahead of time. Plus, they won’t kick you out once the timed ticket entrance period starts. We’d also recommend checking out their events calendar and booking timed tickets during late-night hours." - hannah albertine

Yelp
I truly loved this Floating Park. After my 4miles run in the morning, this beautiful place was my finish line. I am in love with every details of their landscape and appreciates the beauty of it. This Little Island is just awesome for me. Thanks to Staff who worked hard to maintain this

Yelp
I heard about Little Island and wanted to see what the hype was all about. It was just awesome. I was in wonderment on how much work went into the planning and building of the structure. I just had to sit and take it all in. It's an artificial island that protrudes into the water. It is made of concrete pillars and sitting on top of the pillars look like tulip structures. At first, I thought the tulip structures were someone's behind because it is so well sculptured. It It is a public park with manicured lawns, mini parks and assorted plants. It is well kept and maintained. It was once Pier 54.

Yelp
Another NYC spot that totally lived up to the hype! I'd spotted Little Island during a ferry ride on a previous trip and haven't stopped thinking about it. This time, we set out to experience it. As we approached, the park is simply stunning: architecturally satisfying, with little nubs on stilts (I'm sure this is the proper terms for these) making a green park above the water at the end of the pier. It was so fun to walk up on a Saturday morning and see so many other folks running, walking with family and friends, and taking photos here - but wasn't too crowded to enjoy! We walked through the area and it felt compact yet expansive at the same time. They have a cute little amphitheater in the middle with a view of the water that I see they have performances at. There are a few other areas of interest - viewpoints, smaller stages, etc. throughout. The foliage here is so stunning, and we caught the start of fall colors. What a wonderful green space with inventive layout in the heart of the city!

Yelp
On my most recent visit to NYC my friend and I had Little Island on our bucket list. It did not disappoint! It was such a fun little spot to enjoy the sights and sounds. It was a gorgeous day so it was very busy and that did make it hard to enjoy it as much as we wanted to, but we still enjoyed finally being able to see it in person and how it's suspended from the water.

Yelp
I recently visited Little Island in the fall and its a visually fantastic experience. The landscaped lawns offer a gorgeous array of colors in a breathtaking range of shades. The place was incredibly busy on the weekend afternoon and evenings expect to wait for those choice shots if you are a photographer or just looking to capture the moment. If you haven't been yet, I definitely recommend checking it out. Surely I will be back!

Yelp
The thing about little island is that you have to go during sunset to truly get the most out of it. If there is free concert even better and you will stay longer. Otherwise, you are going to think I've waited this long and that's it?

Yelp
Little Island at Pier 55, between 13th and 14th Streets. This pier/ park has quite the backstory. Little Island was built from the remnants of Pier 54 which used to be owned by the British shipping/transport company Cunard-White Star. The pier served as the arrival and departure spot for Trans-Atlantic voyages, and some famous ships stopped here including the rescue liner carrying survivors from The Titanic. In 2018, work began on creating a $260 million Little Island. The structure is supported by 132 of these "pot-structures", emerging from the river and creating the garden's foundation. wowww, and you think this is just the park ;) Pier 57 rooftop offers a great view of this little island with WTC as a backdrop. The sun sets over the Hudson River, so if you come before sunset you'll be rewarded with a gorgeous view! Upon entering the garden (at the park's lowest point), is an area with plenty of expansive lawns for seating, sunning, and playing. Surrounding these lawns are tasteful play equipment for children and a 700-seat amphitheater. From afar, it appeared to float in the Hudson River! It is located between Chelsea and the Meatpacking District on the Hudson River, at Pier 55. It's easily visible from New York's Highline and is a short detour if you're walking along the Highline.

Yelp
Although I've lived nearly 15-20 minutes from NYC all of my life, I can't help but feel like a tourist. That's the beauty of the city, though... There's always something new. This past weekend I got the chance to visit Little Island, a public park in the Chelsea neighborhood. The park is a FREE attraction that offers a lot depending on what you're looking for. It's great for taking a stroll after eating at one of the many delicious restaurants in the area. You'll be able to enjoy the views of the city and NJ, so there's plenty of photo opportunities. The walking trails have gardens and mini "activities" like spinning chairs, dance chimes, and jump ropes. There's also an amphitheater that hosts free performances during the summer. If you're hungry, there are food kiosks in the playground area. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
The Little Island in NYC is definitely a must-visit spot. Located on the Hudson River, this floating park offers a unique blend of nature, art, and stunning views. It's an innovative public space with gardens, walking paths, and performance venues, all set against the backdrop of downtown Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. The views from the island are breathtaking, especially when you get a clear line of sight to Lady Liberty. Whether you're there for a leisurely stroll or just to enjoy the beauty of the landscape, Little Island provides an experience unlike any other in New York City. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore a new, scenic, and tranquil side of the city.

Yelp
This was a cool free attraction in New York! The times I've been here, this hadn't existed so when I found it, I made sure to check it out. My wife and I walked around and enjoyed the atmosphere and views. Really cool to see and hang out!

Yelp
What a great addition to NYC, I mean they really ADDED space. We strolled there after dinner at Chelsea Market. (Walking around here would make an EXCELLENT first date spot!). We lucked out and happened upon a musical rehearsal of an upcoming jazz show. With the water and the boats in he background this place is truly magical. If I lived in NYC I would subscribe to the shows -- which I believe are pretty reasonable at about $25/ticket. We then hiked the whole island and took some great photos. There are a bunch of stairs to get to the top, but it is still pretty if you are not in the shape to do the whole island.

Yelp
A great place to walk on the water and see amazing views of the city!! They have a small amphitheater too!! They have it fully designed where you can do the stairs or ramps. It can get pretty crowded especially on the weekends.
google avatar

Teresa S.

Yelp
This is a beautiful attraction in NYC that needs to be visited at least once. I've been several times now and never get bored. From the city and water views and artwork there's alot to keep your attention. They have different areas to sit and lounge. There's a small stadium like area for events and concerts. There are few vendors to get drinks or light snacks. Every time that I've visited its packed with people. However, it's very big so you don't feel like you're on top of each other. They keep the areas clean and it's something for all ages to enjoy. Definitely a must see for locals and tourists.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Little Island. It's a really interesting little place and I enjoyed my visit here, even if it was on the crowded side. Opened in 2021, Little Island is a reimagined Pier 54, with unique architecture, lovely gardens and great views. They also offer entertainment, currently featuring The Marriage of Figaro ($25 per tcket). The island isn't large (thus the name), but definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Probably one of my favorite sites while visiting NYC. I just can't help but to love looking at the giant concrete planters above water. The park is a hub for events, sightseeing, and taking a nice stroll. Really great free stop in NYC to check out.
google avatar

Yelp
A wonderful way to walk off some of New York's finest foods! Little Island, located on the west side (lower portion) of Hudson yards offers, free admission into a beautiful viewing platform of the city and Hudson River. Concerts are offered on a regular basis throughout the summer in the small amphitheater for reasonable prices. Check schedules and ticket availability. A great place to relax and people watch or listen to folks as they stop by and play on the piano situated right in the middle of the park.

Yelp
Nice place for New Yorkers to visit on leisure! Like a mini botanical garden :) Live band and Summer venue and feel there's a lot more potentials!
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
Gorgeous island right next to the high line! It's about a 5 minute walk and well worth the visit. I went there when they were having rehearsals for their musicals/shows throughout over the next few months. Their shows are only $25/person! Will definitely come back to see their fine-tuned performance! Mix of dancing with jazz music.

Yelp
Such a gorgeous waterfront park! Perfect way to spend a day exploring Manhattan with the Chelsea Market, Pier 54, The High Line, Starbucks Reserve, and Little Island all be within walking distance (from each other. Little Island is very much a modern contemporary park, that hosts a windy trail leading to a lookout point, a small amphitheater, and little playground area. Very well kept and many pretty flowers in bloom. If you want to skip the crowdedness, try visiting on a rainy day midweek so you can enjoy most of the park with unobstructed views.
google avatar

Glen N.

Yelp
The third-best park in Manhattan is not a must-see, but I would ask everyone in the area to make it part of their day trip when visiting Pier 54, the Whitney, High Line, Chelsea Market, and Starbucks Reserve, all within 800 feet. Barry Diller spent $280 million on this park. I appreciate having a beautiful, free park, but next time, don't get the guy who spent 1.9 billion on Ask Jeeves to be in charge of the budget. Basically, the 2.3 acre artificial island is a nice walk, with winding paths going uphill with seasonally changing, contrasting gardens (350 different species of flora), congregation areas, a small stage, lawns (2 small, 1 main), the 687 seat "Amph" amphitheater (the investors made sure 51% of ticketed events were under $30), observation points, a "secret garden" (all white flora), and art fixtures, including the Glockenspiel Sound Board, which plays six flat notes when stepped on. Think the piano from "Big"... blowing a booger out its nose.

Yelp
Boy it's hot It's never this hot in Brooklyn It's like Africa hot Tarzan couldn't take this kind of hot One of my favorite scenes from the film, Biloxi Blues NYC has been experiencing a month long heatwave. Since this was near the Chelsea Market and the Whitney Museum, we decided to take a stroll at this little osais in this concrete jungle. The paths are easy to walk with many plants and flowers to admire along the way. Not too much shaded spaces so make sure you put on that sunscreen and stay hydrated. When the sun sets, it offers a prettier ambience when the lights come on. The design is unique and seems to fit the NYC landscape. It kind of reminds me of Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. This was a good way to soak in some vitamin D and walk off all the goodies we ate. Fun Fact: Construction of the structure began in April 2018. It was opened to the public in May 21, 2021.

Rachel S.

Yelp
This place has it all, entertainment, food, playgrounds and views!! So cute and such a unique look and they always have events going on.
google avatar

Mayra I.

Yelp
Beautiful place over looking the Hudson River. You can watch the sunset too which was beautiful to experienced. There's a lot of walking and steps just to get to different areas of the park. They had a shows for youngster which it was nice and educational. You can sit on grass and enjoy the day. Read a book or just chat or play games. Around the area they have a man made beach. Benches, beach chairs and white sand. Keep in mind No Swimming Prohibited!! on the Hudson River! But nice to enjoy the day. Dog friendly too. Will return. No parking available!
google avatar

Yelp
Little Island is a place I would see from the Highland. But would run out of time or get caught up doing something else. Now, I know I was really doing myself an injustice. I found myself enjoying my time and not wanting to leave. There are many different stairs and twisting paths leading to something to do, like a musical instrument, and, of course, to some amazing views. It's plenty of sitting and nooks to tuck away and relax; people watch and watch the boats on the Hudson. Don't worry about food and water; there is plenty in the area to grab something and picnic. It's a spacious place, a beautiful place, so take your time and enjoy every inch of it.

Yelp
Little Island is a lovely spot to go for a "little" stroll. They have trails you can follow with little fun things to do or find on certain corners, like those spinning arts, music tiles and a couple more. If there are no events, there isnt really much to do here other that walk around, chill and enjoy the view. We loved our fall visit as the weather was fine and of course we get to enjoy the colours of this "garden". I actually like that it was just a simple, no-pressure and stress-free visit. Plus in just an hour or so, youve pretty much have explored the whole area. Great addition to NYC for sure.
google avatar

Alan L.

Yelp
I'm not sure why this was built but the Amphitheater is excellent. The Amphitheater is on the Hudson River with unobstructed views. The seating is comfortable with ample legroom and large rise between rows. The grassy area outside the Amphitheater can get crowded.
google avatar

Nicki M.

Yelp
Love this little park out on the water. Great place to hang out, walk a bit, grab a snack, see a performance, etc. It was super crowded over the holiday weekend so maybe go on a weekday.
google avatar

Coy W.

Yelp
I heard about this man made island in NYC and wasn't sure what to expect. So I did the only thing that a curious tourist could, come investigate. It's a really cool addition to the area. It's not that large but has a few things on it. There's a walking path that leads to a few view points to take pics in and around the river. There's also a area that looks like it's made to put on plays in the park. Outside of that there was an area with some seating and a food truck. If you came by to chill, this isn't like the other parks in town as seating seems limited but it's a cool drop in and out until you hit up other sights in the area.
google avatar

Ryna D.

Yelp
Definitely the latest best public park attraction in NYC! I've been a couple times and it is very nice in the summer. I would love to watch a performance here also.
google avatar

Jocelyn L.

Yelp
Cute place with a really nice view of downtown and NJ. Market 57 and city winery are right next door and make for a fun date night. In the summer the host concerts ($25 a ticket). We came during a week night and it wasn't too crowded. They had rehearsals for one of the shows so it was nice. There's activities for kids along the way as well.
google avatar

Olivia N.

Yelp
Overall rating: 4.9 As a local, I was a bit hesitant of this place. I don't know why it's so close to Chelsea market! This area has enough traffic. But I finally went for a play and it was so pretty. I felt like I was separated from NYC but still close to it. I'd love to experience the place for a folk concert. During the week it's a lot less crowded and less tourists. Definitely bring your own water bottles and cookies! The fo od is not worth it. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
This park is no longer requiring timed reservations (they did earlier on), so it is easy to just come and go when you wish. You get a great view of the Hudson, the skyline, and the Statue of Liberty in the distance. They have a few musical features throughout, such as a piano you play by walking on it. The plantings are nice and seem to be attracting some butterflies! There are also tables to sit at if you bring your own food or drinks.
google avatar

Brandi I.

Yelp
It's a great little getaway if you want to momentarily leave the noise of the city behind. It's very green with a good view of the river. It can get a little crowded, but it's worth it if you've never been. It's a great place for the whole family.
google avatar

Yelp
I always say West Village is like Disneyland, but this place is actually Disneyland adjacent. I mean this of course, my dear reader, in the highest regard. I LOVE Disneyland. It's free to walk on and explore and I currently find myself sitting alone in the middle of this beautiful little concrete rock floating in the middle of the Westside Highway, RIPPED off a full body cigar just posted and people watching. Stevie Ray Vaughan's Little Wing cover currently gracing my wired apple headphones. Vibing so hard rn. You can do a short hike to the top and get full unobstructed views of the city, and there is NOTHING like an nyc skyline view. Granted it is Sunday night and it's packed, but nothing could kill my vibe rn. I have been rigorously scanning the interweb for the past 10 minutes to get a "why" on why this place was built, but can't find much. I kinda F with that tbh. Heatherwick Studio SNAPPED on designing this thing. It's like nothing I've ever seen before. It's FILLED with greenery that makes you feel like you are in a little safe haven of nature in this brutal concrete jungle. This is something I imagine Howard Roark would design, and that is about the best compliment I can give. Thank you Thomas Heatherwick, you have inspired this young chimp. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Yelp
It's a cute place to walk with friends. The island architecture is quite unique. You can also walk on it too and the garden is really pretty to walk through.
google avatar

Tiffany P.

Yelp
Honestly, the best thing I did here was stand on the dock to admire the Little Island from a distance. Its unique architecture rising out of the murky Hudson River piqued my interest.  Unfortunately, venturing onto the actual island was quite underwhelming. We strolled in a tiny park, glanced at interactive art, skipped the overpriced food stands, and checked out views of the NY skyline. The few shaded areas made it difficult to escape the heat, so perhaps don't come here on a hot, sunny day. Note: Public restrooms and water fountains are available on the island.
google avatar

Garett S.

Yelp
Little island is one of the nicest coolest parks in all NY. This is one of the coolest newest attractions. Located in Chelsea just across the street from High Line Park. This is the perfect place to grab a coffee or some food and just enjoy the New York skyline. The park has various levels and look points. All the plants really look nice. There are numerous paths to explore. There are couple play things for kids to play with though no dedicated play ground. There are a couple of rock paths for kids to climb. There also is a great amphitheater.
google avatar

Ann G.

Yelp
LOVE it! Interesting! Very small. Best to come early in the morning (like 7am). Great to go for a run along the water after (or before)
google avatar

Helen Z.

Yelp
Beautiful little artificially constructed island park that is great for walking around and exploring. Great views of the water and NYC on either side of the park. There's an amphitheater that was showing some kind of performance when we were there. Very clean, photogenic space.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this little park . Especially in the summer where there is a lot of different little shows around the park . A very nice experience. Recommended !
google avatar

Don C.

Yelp
Hey it's another crowded island in the Hudson but it's greener, cleaner and no cars. Think of it as a cool park with cooler local food vendors. Lots of free shows some ticketed events but a nice escape. Check out events calendar in advance. Off 13th st. Privately funded by billionaire Dillon is the interesting fact here - and the sunsets.
google avatar

Yelp
Little Island is an artificial Public Park funded by the Diller-Von Furstenberg Family Foundation & Hudson River Park Trust. Designed by Heatherwick Studio, 132 pot structures that resemble stiletto heels form the base of the Island, which is located on the Hudson River. My friend thought I would appreciate it, since I always wear heels. Of course, I loved it! (That day, I also walked with him from the Meat Packing District to Times Square while wearing 6-inch heels.) This lovely urban oasis is such a nice retreat from the hustle & bustle of the city. It's so peaceful and serene. It is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature and art, have a picnic, chill with friends, or meditate in the beautiful garden. There are three concession stands that sell food, drinks, & custom cocktails, an arts & craft center for families, scenic walking trails, and a 687-seat amphitheater. Events include artist performances, late night DJ's, Drag Bingo, & dance parties. Most of the events are free or low admission as part of the agreement made by the Foundation & Trust with the city of New York.

Hunter S.

Yelp
A relatively new spot at Pier 57. They have outdoor events and art exhibits. Lots of public open space and nice views of the water and skyline. Plenty of seating. Pier 57 is the real feature here. I've already reviewed Pier 57 and City Winery. You could make a whole day of this by checking out art galleries, the Whitney, then heading to either City Winery and Pier 57 food hall for snacks and drinks. Then visit Little Island. And then end it all with a relaxing time on the public rooftop garden above City Winery. Great alternative views of Little Island and beautiful view of the city skyline. And another fun fact for history nerds: This is the pier where Titanic was due to arrive. The original pier gate is still there. And just so you know, the Jane Hotel is across the highway. That's where the Titanic survivors stayed. The club is no longer open to the public (lame developers and investors made it private and expensive), but the hotel is still opening.

Yelp
Little island is a cool trendy park on the Hudson River at 13th street. The park features an amphitheater for concerts, scenic walking trails with views of NJ, Hudson River, and Lower Manhattan. The park is very busy on weekends. Be prepared for crowds. Highly advise bringing your own bottled water, or be prepared for high prices once inside the park.
google avatar

Kitty H.

Yelp
Next to Pier 57. Ate at 57 food hall, went to rooftop park then walk over 4 min to come to little island. Arrive on Sat 8 pm. Very comfortable. No tickets needed. Just walk in. They happen to have a live concert going on but the seats were full. The entrance to the performance area was blocked off but you can hear the music without seeing the band. Very relaxing. Two food stalls selling eatery with sandwich $12 and hotdog $5 etc. will definitely come back if I'm in this area.
google avatar

Kai C.

Yelp
Visually beautiful, easy to walk through the entire island, impressive by the man made island with all the height variations. It's very peaceful quiet, even have vendors during weekends nights there is patio tables and shade on the courtyard and two different stages one of the stage is fully built with lots of seating for shows they also have modern bathrooms built into the ground level
google avatar

Glenn G.

Yelp
I had read about Little Island in a guidebook and hadn't really planned to go there. However, as we were walking the High Line on our last day in NYC, we looked over and saw it across the street. We walked over and enjoyed the design, the grounds, and the interactive artworks. There's a performance area and what looks like another bar or food demo area. Anyway, it's a cool spot for the view and the layout/design/architecture. While we were there, someone was playing on the outdoor piano, so that was a cool vibe as well.

Yelp
Very beautiful park shaped like an island!! Lots of colorful tree's throughout! There are different pockets of the park too. Vendors were selling food and drinks! Sat at an amphitheater to cool down, and had a lovely view of the ocean!! Could see New Jersey too! It was very busy when we went; but there were still lots of spaces to sit and enjoy the park! It 's also free!! Would highly recommend for everyone of all ages

Yelp
Little island is where nature & art meets in this fairly new urban oasis along the Hudson River. Its a very interesting structure, its like an island within an island. Theres a lot of beautiful spring blooms when we visited last week. A small park but so much to see. It's also overlooking the Hudson river with a view of the down town sky scrapers. Theres a mini amphi theater and we saw some rehearsal going on when we visited. This place is perfect to hang out on a sunny day. Theres a bathroom on site & near walking distance to some good restaurants in the hudson river.
