Where to Find Barista Competition-Worthy Signature Coffee Drinks Around Los Angeles - Eater LA

"Chris McColl teamed with entrepreneur Jerrod Clancy on this fashionable coffee bar by Venice Beach that extends to a wooden parklet across the street. Little lunch is what people call recess in Australia, which is Clancy’s home country. Gold Coaster, named for a particularly vibrant beachfront region near Brisbane, is a knockout latte made with warming spices like turmeric, cinnamon and cardamom that they sweeten with vanilla. Maca root is an Andean superfood that’s supposed to provide an added energy boost, which completes the vivid beverage." - Joshua Lurie

Passing this cute cafe for uncountable times, I finally made my way there. Yeah, it's always tricky visiting places at the busiest spot of Venice Beach - joy of finding parking spot in LA! Besides they mostly looked pretty busy on weekends, probably great stop to make while enjoying the stroll by the beach. Their interior was nothing but SLAY. Period. Contemporary retro vibe, with great ambience to just sit killing time or even get some work done. For the cup size, the coffee was quite pricey yet the great taste made it worth. I loved their Salted Caramel Latte, which was more on the sweeter side. I have been eyeing their pastries but unfortunately they were all gone when I arrived.

Google
Hands down the best coffee spot in Venice. The coffee and drinks, staff, ambiance, everything about this place is perfect. Come have a drink and sit down, play a game, do some work, or just chill. This is the vibe. Love the coffee, but love the matcha with pistachio milk, of trust me pistachio milk is the best.

Google
Great vibes! Food selection is average in size for a coffee shop, I would say. Limited availability of some of the food but you can find something. Good place to sit and work/study for hours if you can handle slightly loud millennial throwback music. I personally welcome it.

Cute little set up for coffee..snacks or lunch.nice feeling talking to the staff. Just hopped in to check about bus and also restrooms facilities. I was told to go to public toilet as only customer of little lunch can use theirs. I wanted to pay and use but outcome was not in positive...they let go customer.

Such a cute lovely place. Tried their turmeric latte and omgggg it’s so good!! Def a must try. I didn’t stay to enjoy the vibe, but I would have if I had time 😊

Being a coffee critic from Australia, it was paramount that I’d find a place that was even close to the quality we get back home. I was recommended this spot by one of the lovely hosts (that is a fellow Aussie) at the nearby accommodation that I was staying at. I was pleasantly surprised that the coffee was up to the standard we would get at a local cafe back in Australia Staff were friendly and hospitable too. Such a nice and chilled vibe which is good to socialise with people or if you’re on your own — the perfect spot to do computer work too. Highly recommend this spot and it’s only a short walk from the boardwalk too.

Google
I came here years ago and they’ve expanded into having a larger seating area with merchandise for sale and an arty vibe. Great espresso and chai, chill service, and a solid seating area make this a killer spot to meet up with a friend for coffee.

Google
Amazing service, ambience and FUN specialty drinks! The specialty drinks are definitely worth the try and they’re as described! The only thing is that you can’t get a sweetness adjustment on those specialty items. This is also a great spot to sit and work either at their outside seating or cozy inside! The kindest and lovely baristas! Thank you for being a wonderful start to my day!

Yelp
Use to be one of my favorite coffee shops in Venice but it truly has gone so downhill in the last year or so. I find most of the baristas to now be aloof and impersonal whereas before they were friendly and professional. If you enjoy real matcha, don't get it here. I've had it many times and I've stopped trying to "give it a chance". They are clearly using crap matcha and it shows. Once it was like yellow and had my husband not ordered it I would have given it right back to them. If you're going to come here, stick to the espresso drinks then walk out promptly.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop with lots of open space to study or hang with friends. Parking can be tough on the weekends but I think they have their own small lot here. Matcha latte was good, nothing special but did the job! It was nice that they don't charge extra for non dairy milk alternatives :)

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop! Little lunch is a cute coffee shop right off of Venice Beach. The workers are so great and they have a fun holiday menu with festive drinks. There is a ton of working space to enjoy your coffee, hangout and free WiFi. They also have benches across the street to sit and enjoy your coffee in the sun. All of the coffee and snacks here are delicious. I got a gingerbread cold brew which is a seasonal drink and it was delicious - not to sweet which I loved.

Yelp
Great coffee spot a couple of blocks away from the boardwalk Good service and nice ambiance

Yelp
I used to be a regular at the cafe that used to be in this spot, so when I saw that Little Lunch opened in its place, I wanted to give it a chance. I got a latte and the bacon breakfast burrito and both were pretty good! Back when I went, they were still waiting to add more to the menu. The space is great with lots of natural light and nice seating. Service was pretty quick, too. Parking is on the street and relatively easy to find.

Yelp
Every once in a while... there's a lil westside magic. I don't really understand how this place works... great useable space, great coffee, wifi. It all makes sense but this close to the ocean at these prices... in a corporate coffee world of order, pay ,and get out of here. Lil lunch coffee is a remote work caffeine oasis with comfort and customer service. I don't want to blow up my spot so I can't sit and work but others need to see what a coffee shop should be. I hope this gets to last a while be kind to it.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute cafe! Baristas were kind and drinks and food came out fast. The matcha was average which is to be expected as they don't specialize in matcha. There was lots of space to work inside and was able to be productive. There were also a few designated parking spots outside which is very convenient. Friends enjoyed the breakfast burritos but said it was a bit dry. I would still come back again though!

Yelp
Little Lunch is a vibe! It's one of my favorite spots to grab a coffee and get some work done. There's plenty of indoor space, but it's popular, so you'll want to snag a spot earlier in the day. I've tried almost every drink on their menu, and they're all amazing. The coconut cold brew is one of my favorites--it's not too bitter, and the macadamia milk adds great flavor. There's a parking lot across the street with a 45-minute limit, I believe. The baristas are super friendly too.

Yelp
These guys have good coffee and tea. I had the pleasure of trying them both. Taste really good and fresh, I didn't really have a interest in the sweet treats here. But we had simple coffee and all. It was a good experience.

Yelp
RAF took care of us. Great customer service. Everyone that works there is a vibe. Great crafted drinks

Yelp
I visited this cafe after trying a drink for a brand promo with bio.me. I figured I'd stop in and try Little Lunch Coffee since the colab was so good. I'm glad I did! The cafe is very big and super cute on the inside. Plenty of space to sit and hangout. I thought the baristas were very friendly and my drink came out delicious. I ordered an iced vanilla latte. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
I haven't had a little lunch yet, but I've had my fair share of coffee here. This is a cute Venice place to grab a cup of coffee and get some work done. You can grab a cup and go, or bring your computer as there's plenty of tables, chairs and two comfy couches.
google avatar

Yelp
Quaint coffee spit with a spacious seating area. I had the gold coaster with turmeric and it was delicious and not too sweet. They have all the right things going for it-- word of mouth, requisite drinks (cortado, flat white, espresso, etc. ) and a few bites. Thankfully there's free parking across the street.

Yelp
Moved to Venice and I was excited that there was a cute coffee shop around the corner. I have loved it here for months and I always bring my friends and out of town visitors as well! The baristas are extremely friendly and my favorite part of this place is their seasonal rotating menu. Also I love the study area here! FYI, there's parking and more seating across the street :)

Yelp
Drink: Venice Fog (a variation of the London Fog). Comparing London Fogs I've gotten before, I should've known it's a bit sweet for me. Maybe it's the Tache Pistachio Milk they put in there. (I haven't tried the food yet, so I will update the next time I do) Ambiance: I came here to study in the morning to pleasantly discover other people on Zoom for Hybrid work. The sun burns behind my back so badly that I have the urge to pull down the blinds, though none of the other guests seemed to mind. However, there was only one outlet in the back behind the bench - that would be the spot I aim to sit next time LOL. The area is an interesting mix between a shop and a study lounge, which is something I've never seen in a cafe. (I am a Ktown/DT cafe girl, and those are build for studying. But things are different in Venice and Santa Monica as these are more tourist spots). Service: You pretty much pick up your order from the counter, so there isn't much to evaluate. The staff are very friendly. It's a crowded doorway and a line to order. As it advertised on the website, the cafe does carry a sense of local community. I saw two posters showcasing local events happening in the cafe (one about a girls only lunch and the other about silverware workshop). I will definitely check those out!

Yelp
Cute coffee space in Venice. The parking lot for this shop was being utilized for an upcoming event so we found street parking a couple blocks away. I ordered a honey oatmilk latte; I wanted lavender but they don't have that flavor. Latte was delicious and cost $7, the honey flavoring added an extra $1 but I was pleasantly surprised to see no extra charges for my oatmilk. At this point, all milk costs about the same so I wish all coffee shops did this! Space is also pretty roomy inside with a large back room with tables and seating and nice ambience. The service? I ordered my drink and it was provided, nothing noteworthy or exemplary. Curious how long this spot will stay open: this corner has seen so many different businesses in the last few years. But they do have a parking lot which is hard to come by in this area.

Yelp
Little Lunch Coffee is right up the street and around the corner from my place, boardwalk adjacent on Venice Beach. It's def def a hidden secret here in Venice. Amazing tea lattes, seating inside, And outside and such awesome parking. None of these are easy to accomplish stand-alone and as a melange, it's hands-down a rare bird. The fun of Little Lunch is it's menu is always fresh, seasonal, new. Lots of new pumpkin lattes variations at the moment since autumn is setting in. I'll try them all, eventually. In the meantime, ordered the Venice Fog, tea latte iced. So yummy! It carries a fruity undertone and it's creamy. It was a toasty autumn day today at the beach, so this hit just right. I'm looking forward trying the tacos and the pumpkin chia seed pudding. And another Venice Fog, because I love the real thing, and this local staple of a beverage.

Yelp
This is a great coffee shop in Venice. What's not to love about available parking, lots of indoor and outdoor seating, and being steps away from the beach? Plus, there is wifi available if you're trying to work (but be warned that outlets are few and far between). The coffee was of good quality and the prices are what you'd expect at trendy coffee shop. Food and snacks are available as well. Note that if you're in a rush, this is not the place for you as I stood in line for ~20 min on a Friday morning. Otherwise, it's a great place to come and enjoy some coffee and relax!
google avatar

Yelp
Super cute coffee shop in Venice. You can tell the baristas know what they're doing. On a busy Saturday there were only two employees working, however they managed the line great and got out everyone's drinks and food in a timely manner. I got a cold brew and really enjoyed it. There is a spacious seating area slightly removed from the ordering area which is super aesthetic and has a variety of seating options. There's also a bathroom which is nice as well. Parking is a struggle around here, but I suggest getting there a little early to find easy street parking. I had a great experience here and definitely recommend to anyone!

Yelp
great spot in santa monica to grab a quick bite and lounge in a really well decorated interior!!! i love how it feels like i'm sitting in a living room. service was great and if you're seeing this during the fall season you HAVE to try the pumpkin donut, 10/10!
google avatar

Heeju S.

Yelp
I absolutely love Little Lunch! They have really good coffee and a cute space to hang out or do some work in. It's a huge plus that they have a small parking lot so parking isn't usually an issue. The baristas here are friendly too and it's just an overall great coffee shop.

Yelp
This corner spot in the neighborhood finally found its niche: a conglomerate coffee and tea shop offering a wild array of daily curated offerings in addition to fantastic matcha green latte hot tea . I've since then switched my morning coffee shop/lunch spot and look forward to meeting daily dose of rich, smooth tea and the occasional pastry . I plan on buying the pistachio nut milk as well as the almond one up for sale. Merchandise is utilitarian: mugs, mug and saucer sets, swimwear, hoodies, halter tops, tees as well as sun protection products and music, etc. The games provided by the place designed for families and community is a wonderful gesture and use of the large dining space, which is much bigger than the order and pick up station. I will say this though: watch out for your orders as staff is quiet and very busy attending to their faithful customers. Your order will usually sit on the counter until you pick it up yourself!

Yelp
Nice place for work or meetings. Super friendly baristas and decent coffee. There are not many food options, but breakfast burritos are good :)
google avatar

Jailene G.

Yelp
Really cute but small building not very much space to sit but it's more of a grab and go place since it's so close to the beach :) !

Tomer O.

Yelp
Great Ambiance, just near the ocean, super friendly stuff. Oh, and great coffee. Recommending it for sure

Yelp
Great food and service. I definitely recommend stopping by on your way to the beach! Get a vanilla latte!

Yelp
#21 in my SOCAL COFFEE SHOP SERIES Super cute coffee shop in Venice! They have a small parking lot which has a little area for outdoor seating right across the shop. Cute interior area, I wish there was more seating but nonetheless super aesthetic with a few tables and a communal table and couch. They also have super cute merch from local businesses and their own business as well. I got the Best Mate ($7.25) and I thought it was going to have a thicker consistency because of the oat milk but it didn't. Other than that, it was tasty! A subtle hint of vanilla and cinnamon. Not too strong but definitely got an energy boost.
google avatar

Min Seung K.

Yelp
I go here at least 3 times a week. Their "best mate" vanilla oatmilk latte is one of the best coffees. Seating and vibe is great. Love the workers too. Super friendly
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
My regular coffee shop closes early for the holidays, which ended up being a blessing because I found a drink I love here. I've been obsessed with the peppermint mocha at little lunch coffee. The baristas are friendly and the shop has a chill vibe. THEY ALSO HAVE A PARKING LOT.
google avatar

Kaitlin D.

Yelp
Cute cafe with a considerably large lounge style space with plenty of comfortable seating. Service was great and they offered recommendations for their seasonal menu. Ordered a paradise iced tea ($5), a little high considering the size of the cup and was a little bitter. But I'll still probably come back to enjoy the cafe for a bit longer and try one of their lattes next time.
google avatar

Urvie P.

Yelp
Was in a Venice for the day and needed a pick me up / treat! I got the salty caramel latte with half sweetness and I thoroughly savored it bc I didn't want my coffee to be finished! The half sweetness was perfect hint of the flavor combined in the latte still being able to taste the espresso! The quality of the coffee was very smooth and biscuity roast I would say. Also the barista that took my order was very patient with me and understood the type of drink I was looking for hence suggestion of half sweetness. I didn't realize till I left but I'm a side room was a while seating area away from the main entrance where you place your order. It was a unique layout which I've never seen before you almost don't see the ppl ordering so you're not distracted by ppl going in or out! I would def stop by again if I'm in the area I wish there was another location near me!

Yelp
I honestly wanted to like this place more based on reviews... the staff are very friendly!! And willing to explain everything on the menu. The working place seems nice and open but like SUPER CROWDED. on a Tuesday. At 10 AM?? I sat outside in the cute tables across the street but the WIFI was so terrible and literally unusable. I got the co co cold brew (3/5) which was tasted like sweet watery coffee for $7.50. I feel like this place had a lot of potential but missed the mark... TLDR: go super early like 8-9 AM if you want to even think about getting a seat inside to work. Wifi quality seems extremely variable (it was unusable for me lol)
google avatar

Mikaela R.

Yelp
10/10!! We are from out of town and came 2 days in a row to get the Best Mate, super delicious! Also the inside is super cute and vibey. Would definitely come back again!
google avatar

Isaiah C.

Yelp
Cutesy little place. Nice selection of coffees. Beautiful ambiance and space. Wish there was more seating options though.

Yelp
Ducked into this cute coffee shop on a rare rainy day in SoCal to stay dry and get some work done! Super adorable decor at the front where you order, and a more urban vibe in the adjoined working space, which feels a little cold and industrial for a coffee shop and could possibly use a bit more seating. Many patrons were sitting on cement blocks along the wall working on little tables. As a former barista, I'm usually a plain oat milk latte girl so I can taste the espresso, but upon recommendation of the baristas here, I tried out the chagalatte since I've tried something similar, the "chagaccino" and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the hot matcha chagalatte with oat milk wasn't my favorite. It was lukewarm and it was quite unbalanced, with all the sweetness of the monkfruit and the other grounds sinking to the bottom, so it was quite earthy and grainy -- I ended up chewing a good portion of the drink. However, the rest of the shop was pretty cute and just a 3 minute walk from Venice beach with free parking, so I'm not opposed to swinging back around to try some of their regular drinks.
google avatar

Astrae Lucia F.

Yelp
amazing vibes, amazing coffee! I ordered an iced oat milk mocha while my partner ordered the same thing but hot. both are superb. I'm always looking for a coffee shop that serves lattes in which you can really taste the espresso, and this is one of them! staff was super warm and welcoming, 10/10 :) the chocolate donut is also bangin'.
google avatar

Eric J.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience!!! I was wandering around the area and in need of nourishment when I stumbled upon little lunch coffee + snacks. What a remarkable discovery!!! I opted for a Iced Matcha (dirty of course) and I asked the barista to surprise me when asked which milk I'd prefer. Well, she nailed it with the Macadamia Nut milk!!! Quite possibly one of the best I've had. They also had a delicious Falafel Sandwich that I devoured at the picnic sitting area outside. All around fantastic service, product, and atmosphere. Highly Recommend!!!
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
The ambiance was nicer, now the place seems like it's turning into a department store with the amount of clothes racks around. There was a barista guy dressed more to be a bartender, the interaction with him seemed hostile, and he was annoyed. The environment did not seem welcoming. Too bad, as I am a local to the area, I usually avoid Little Lunch because of the mediocre coffee, but I occasionally come by for the ambiance. Now that's gone, the only convenience is the free parking.
google avatar

Gohar K.

Yelp
Accidentally ended up here after a walk on the beach. Didn't like the location much but the coffee was really good. I got a iced coco bru and loved it very much. My sons iced mocha was as delicious. They also serve light lunch items and sweets. We just got coffee this time but next time we will definitely try the food. Customer service was ok.
google avatar

Gina I.

Yelp
i get cold brew from every coffee shop i try. and i hate to say it, but the cold brew was soooo bad. it tasted like bitter water. i threw it out after 4 sips. it was truly undrinkable for me. if you're interested in cold brew, you'd be better off at a chain like blue bottle or intelligentsia. heck, even starbucks cold brew is more palatable than whatever the heck was in my cup. hate to leave a negative review, especially since it was a cute space and i didn't try anything else on the menu... so three stars! (but the cold brew was a 0)

Patty C.

Yelp
After hearing great things about LittleLunch and knowing it's close to my gym, I finally visited today. The guy at the front was helpful with my questions about the drink I ordered and told me the barista would ring me up and make it. I tried to make small talk with the barista (blonde girl with bangs), but she barely responded and seemed uninterested. I asked about the seating layout and bathroom, and even though I smiled and giggled, she didn't return not even the slightest smile. I couldn't help but notice she was very friendly and chatty with a group of Caucasian women waiting for their order. I waited for my drink, expecting to hear my name or the drink called out, as they usually do in coffee shops. After sitting for about 10 minutes, I finally checked the counter and found my drink had been sitting there the whole time. She saw me waiting but didn't bother to let me know it was ready. The overall experience was rude and, as a POC, I didn't feel welcomed. It's disheartening that POC are still treated differently, even through subtle actions. The matcha drink and pistachio milk were good, but friendly and kind customer service matters more. I'll make sure to tell my friends of color in the area that this place isn't very welcoming. Do better.

Jay T.

Yelp
Prices are absolutely unaffordable. Don't get sucked into this tourist trap. Midget burritos for $14 Little lunch is a perfect name. Better yet, little lunch big wallet.
google avatar

Alyssa W.

Yelp
The coffee here was so good and the wait staff were all super nice. We went for a pre-marathon event and they seemed happy to host us in their open seating area on a Friday morning. There were a few people working on computers and using the space for co-working which was nice to see. Great location right near the beach!
google avatar

Margaret P.

Yelp
I came here on a Friday morning. There was a line of people. They have a cute little patio area and serve up your typical cutesy coffee drinks with latte art if you order the right drink. I ordered a black iced coffee and a breakfast burrito with crispy bacon. As simple as it sounded, I gotta say this was by far one of my favorite breakfast burritos that I've tried to date. The damage was about $22 bucks for a coffee and breakfast burrito. I think their burrito is also from the Great White!

hannah b.

Yelp
super cute! great coffee and food. my only complaint is the music is so. gosh. darn. loud!! people come here to get work done, read, etc., all while foster the people and two door cinema club are screaming into your ears the whole time. I'll be back for sure, but I will also be bringing noise canceling headphones next time

D L.

Yelp
Came here to meet friends and taste this new drink they collabed with a brand for. I was hungry and decided to buy a breakfast burrito. I got the Little Los Angeles Breaky Burrito. It was awful, almost only potatoes, literally no egg and a strand of kale. Paid 15 plus tax. Never coming here again.
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
The coffee was okay but cold. The service was fast, there is a space for seating but every seat was taken. This is more of a take your coffee and go walk at the beach shop. Also the seats are very uncomfortable.
google avatar

S G.

Yelp
Really good spot. The shamashiri streak sandwich was delicious, also their Vietnamese coffee was delicious. The atmosphere was great and the service was AMAZING. The place was clean, with clean tables and clean bathrooms. Will be coming again.
