The Best Restaurants in Prospect Heights | Eater NY

"The neighborhood’s best Caribbean food is found at Little Miss Muffin, a small bakery with no indoor seating. Flaky, baked patties come in several flavors — curry chicken, barbecue chicken, and spicy beef — for a few dollars each. For something more filling: There’s roti, oxtail, jerk chicken, and rice and peas." - Eater Staff

Where to Find Generously Stuffed Jamaican Patties in NYC | Eater NY

"Prospect Heights’ best patties are found at this bakery that also sells steamed fish, oxtail, and goat roti on weekends. Beef and chicken patties are baked throughout the day and are plenty flakey, even after an hour out of the oven ($2.50 to $2.75). Despite this store’s name, the thinner patties sold here lack some of the “stuffin” found in others on this list, but well-seasoned fillings — spicy beef, curry chicken, among others — more than compensate." - Luke Fortney

Google
I had the mild beef patty in the curry chicken patty. Both were really delicious. I would go for them again. The lady behind the counter was really pleasant.

Google
Wonderful staff, great service and delightful food. We are fans of the curry and jerk chicken patties. I just had a wonderfully crafted bake and shark that had a delicious mango salsa - perfection! So very happy to support this small business

Google
World’s tiniest portion of Macaroni pie for 3.09 not worth the buy at all. Beef patties are great in flavor however and great price just don’t ever get Mac pie expecting to get a good amount for your money, the portion isn’t even half of its container it’s in😭. Even asked the two workers if they can give a more decent portion for its price or up charge but no…

Google
Food is very good but the staffs awareness of how to move a line is insane. There can be 2 people ahead of you and you still spend over 15 minutes waiting for just one patty while there are multiple people on site doing basically nothing and no one trying to move the line quicker. I just spent 20 minutes waiting for 1 patty with one person ahead of me. While there’s one lady taking orders fluffing order and a gentleman who usually serves me just sitting on his phone. Literally zero awareness of how to get people in and out the store.

Google
Patties are amazing. The spicy beef was the perfect amount of heat and the jerk chicken had so much flavor. They come out hot and fresh. The muffins are also delicious, good sized and fresh

Ayana Austin-Depay

Google
My go-to spot for a jerk chicken patty! Authentic flavor but it is not spicy. It costs around $3 but it is packed with flavor and meat so you get your money's worth. It is better to go earlier because they do sell out of some of the patties like the jerk chicken and veggie. I went around 11:50am on a Monday and there was no line. This place typically has a line so if you are looking for a good time to go, I suggest Monday during the early afternoon. I will definitely be back because I am always curious about the food. They have roti and other traditional Caribbean dishes like oxtails and stew chicken.

Google
Arguably the best patties in Brooklyn. Definitely, the best I've tried. Other dishes are great also, including the curries. Their annual (?) Curry Q is worthy of taking the trip, especially for the mango curry. August '23 Lines are still long but they are moving much faster. Patties are still great, curry and roti is still solid.

Google
Bake and Shark, and also their patties curry chicken and veggie are amazing. Their coconut cookies and chocolate chip are sensational

Yelp
I'd rate Little Miss Muffin N Her Stuffin four and a half stars. We shared a chicken curry patty. The pastry was thin and sturdy. Not flakey. More pocket like. The star was the savory filling. It was a great value at $2 and change. Service was quick. Takeout only.

Yelp
GET THE BBQ CHICKEN. I asked the person working which was their go-to and they pointed me here and it was so good. The price point is perfect and it's a great little to-go lunch. This spot feels authentic and homemade. I felt the love in this food and can't wait to come back on my next walk to the park.

Yelp
Stopped by here on a walk. Always willing to try a place that makes fresh beef patties. So many places serve frozen or mass produced patties and the flavor suffers. When I entered the aroma of freshly baked cookies filled the air. It was really nice. I ordered a spicy beef and a veggie pattie. The spicy beef was really good. Reminded of Jamaica but I think the patty had a less fat which i prefer. It wasnt too spicy either. The veggie patty was meh. But I would definitely return for the beef.
google avatar

Dee B.

Yelp
While I love their Pattie's and cookies this Roti was the worst. Dry as hell and where is the potatoes and Channa? I asked for extra gravy which I didn't get obviously. The only reason I ordered the curry chicken roti because so many people were ordering rotis. But never again and $10 nah ! That's why they say stick to what you know! Patties and coco bread always fresh and on point!

Yelp
I was first exposed to beef patties from a pizzeria in Staten Island over 20years ago. With that said, Little Miss Muffins made me relieve the joys of discovering a new food all over again!! The Pattie's are flavorful and are a good size for the price. Will eat here again !
google avatar

Payal P.

Yelp
Patty's are delicious!!! I'm always craving a patty so stopping by a spot like this is great. They have different types of chicken patties too.. jerk curry and bbq. I tried the curry and it was so flavorful and flaky! I've never tried the beef but I'll have to come back and try them all!

Yelp
We stopped by after our trip to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Although there were a number of food trucks in front of the garden, we really wanted some patties. Little miss muffin is just a 7 min walk away and it was more than worth the walk. I ordered a curry and a mild beef (because they were out of spicy beef). The patty crust was perfectly flavored and just the right texture as the patties we would enjoy in Jamaica visiting my family. The curry was delicious and the beef was great as well. I tasted a bite of my sister's jerk patty and that was definitely the favorite amongst our entire group. Some flavors may be out, but I personally think you'll enjoy any of them!

Yelp
Little Miss Muffin N Her Stuffin was a highly recommended local spot to check out from a fellow Brooklyn Yelp Elite member (thank you). This lil shop is located right on Washington Ave and serves Caribbean food. I came in on a Tuesday really excited to try the food and found out that they only sell patties on that day :( My heart was a little broken but I was also happy to see they weren't sold out of the patties. I ordered the beef and jerk chicken with a Jamaican Kola. Prices are fair, staff is friendly and I'm team beef patty over jerk chicken #classic. Only 4 stars because I didn't try any of their other food.

Yelp
Exactly what I was looking for!! No line and service was quick. Not much room for seating inside, definitely a takeout spot. The muffin has a crispy sweet top, and moist in the middle. I got the blueberry muffin and my boyfriend got the chocolate chip cookie which was also good. They were out of several flavors (corn, chocolate chip) which is a bummer since today was my last day in town - I'll def come back tho.
google avatar

Lydia L.

Yelp
I recently moved to the neighborhood and discovered this gem. The best blueberry muffin I've ever had. The meat pies are really flavorful as well. The prices are really affordable at around $3-4 per muffin. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area, only a 10 minute walk from Brooklyn Museum / Prospect park.

Yelp
Don't be turned away by the relatively bare aesthetics and the somewhat empty glass cases in this establishment. The patties here are fantastic! After seeing numerous people walking in and out on a Friday afternoon and then again on a random Monday evening, I decided to give Little Miss Muffin a try. I ordered the curried chicken and jerk chicken patties, two of their most popular flavors, each for only $2.75. Given that empanadas are often $3+, this is a great deal. The patties came out fresh. The outer crust was perfect, somewhat flaky with good structure, while the inner fillings were flavorful. The ratio of shell to filling was spot-on. The jerk chicken was spicier (which my partner preferred). Besides patties, they also sell muffins, scones, croissants, cookies, and hot cross buns. On weekends Little Miss Muffin serves hot food specials. A return visit is in my future!
google avatar

Dre G.

Yelp
Their patties are legit delicious! The freshness of the dough and filling are top tier. If you're anywhere in the Prospect Heights/Downtown Brooklyn area, buy their patties. You won't regret it.
google avatar

Thanh L.

Yelp
Thoroughly impressed. The spicy beef & jerk chicken patties ticked all the boxes for a perfect afternoon snack (handheld, no fuss). Also got the oxtail to eat later. So good!
google avatar

Lora R.

Yelp
It's been some time since I've had patties from this establishment, but I definitely recommend Little Miss Muffins. Generally, I order patties and have never had the opportunity to have Trini Saturday's menu items, but I can say the cookies/baked goods are delicious! The beef patty (spicy) is as expected, SPICY... not half-assed but the scotch bonnets are not to be ignored. Nonetheless, the level of spice does not compromise the savory flavors. The bbq chicken patty is not as spicy. The sauce is somewhat sweet with a little heat. I would recommend that you make the effort and judge for yourself, but it's 5-stars for me!
google avatar

Gavie V.

Yelp
These were good! Like so good I'm so happy it's in Brooklyn and not anywhere near me in Harlem. The spicy beef patty was spicy, the curry chicken patty was bomb and flavorful. My Bf and I bought 2 each and it's a shame they closed early so we couldn't get more! Didn't get a chance to try anything else since we were on our way to dine elsewhere, so didn't expect much from the staff, just quick in and out. I will definitely come back if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Neighborhood favorite. Discovered this place few years ago and decided one day this would be my dream hood one day. Here I am, and it's still a favorite, one of the places I have to take all friends and colleagues when we're nearby. Curry chicken and spicy beef patties are my favorites, but there's also jerk chicken and vegetarian patties too. Nice assortment of drinks including Tropical Rhythms sorrel (pro tip: KILLER mixer). They also have bake, pastries, and staple entrees like oxtail and stew chicken that are good when you've got a big appetite. Cash only!!

Tanya M.

Yelp
Yes, the curry chicken patties are the stuff of legend, but have you tried their curry que specials?? Once a month or so, they will have a curry que fest on a Saturday afternoon. Don't sleep on this! Curried duck, curried crab and dumplings, curried mango... have you ever tried curried mango?? Neither had I. You're missing out! My dreams are now filled with curried mango. All wrapped in steaming hot buss up shot, otherwise known as paratha. And don't sleep on the pumpkin. Trinidadian style mashed pumpkin is amazeballs. The nexxus between Trinidadian food and Indian food are where my dreams are made in heaven. You're welcome.

Yelp
Currently my favorite Jamaican patty spot but I don't think they are Jamaican, they are either Bajan or Trini so I might lose my Jamaican stripes for saying their Patties are the boom dynamite. I used to love Tastee patty in brooklyn but they have fallen off in taste or are usually out but this place always have Patty's. I usually get the curry or jerk. my mother in law is from Kansas and always asks me to get her beef Patty's whenever she visits & I go to Brooklyn. I have also had their bake & saltfish 4/5, curry chicken roti 5/5 & their muffins are pretty good too. The upside is no stink attitude like the Jamaican restaurants so that is plus. They have other food items that I haven't tried but definitely get the patty's and the roti., you will not be disappointed, they are great.
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
I love going here whenever I'm in the neighborhood, although I bypass the muffins and cookies and go directly to the hot food section. The food here is cooked and seasoned perfectly and the value is perfect. I'm a big fan of the curry goat, and the spinach rice. The cookies and muffins are fine too, but the hot food really is the star of the show.
google avatar

Cecile Y.

Yelp
Came in for patties & a sorrel - both great even though the sorrel was very sweet! Had the jerk chicken & spicy beef patties and they were flavorful and delicious! Will be back!
google avatar

Lynn D.

Yelp
Does NOT disappoint!! This is my third or fourth time here and I must say the food continues to be SPECTACULAR!!! I get the same thing which is corn soup and patties. Once I got a goat roti...OMG DELISH!!!! Today, I tried the veggie patty and well it was overwhelmingly good. Everything is home made, made with love as my granny would make. It is a small spot but the food packs a big punch!!! Must try and enjoy!!!
google avatar

Tresha W.

Yelp
The food from this spot is on point! Someone shared the menu and we decided to give it a try -- this place did not disappoint. The 2 meat combo with 2 sides was a great deal. The food was flavorful and the portion was generous. The selection of meat and sides had all the hits-- curry crab, curry shrimp, curry chicken, goat, channa and potatoes, dahl, etc. I got a side of the mango chutney and it was deliciously spicy and sweet. The place is a bakery so we also got a sample of cookies and they were delicious! My favorite were the chocolate chocolate chip (not a typo) and the red velvet chocolate chip. I'm not sure if the menu was a special thing for the weekend or apart of their regular menu but we'll be back for sure.

Yelp
I'm in love with this place. I'm not a BK girl so when ever I come through it's a must that I stop by. One of the only places I know that has a variety of Uber Delicious Chicken Patties (sorry I don't eat Beef/Pork). BBQ, JERK & CURRY Chicken so hard to decide. So I always come and buy 2/3 of each and just pop them in the freezer. Like I said I'm not from BK so I gotta rack up. The only sad part is the patties are so good that I know the food has to be great but I have never had the opportunity to try it. My focus is always on the the greatness of the Patties. I have tried the sweets the cookies & muffins are oh so Delish as well. Try the Red Velvet Muffin & Cookie... Yummmm! The place is clean, nice & cozy, the people are always welcoming and pleasant and the patties are a must!

S B.

Yelp
Was curious to try their beef patty given the hype but it fell flat. The patty was fresh, hot, and soft no crunch on the outside which is usually common. The filling however lacked salt. Would I come again? No
google avatar

Lindsey O.

Yelp
I know I give a lot of 5s out (I love a lot of places) but Goddamn this place is a solid 5. Their cookies are some of my favorite in the area - fabulous chocolate chunk, sugar, red velvet, and oatmeal. The muffins are also quite good - I usually go with orange or carrot but they have poppyseed, pistachio, blueberry, cranberry, red velvet, and more. I have yet to try their Roti but it looks fabulous. They have a few non bakery item offerings to make for a real meal. What really amps this place up for me on top of the terrific flavors is the wonderful service. The ladies at the counter are always so sweet and friendly. It's a very welcoming place. So much love for Little Miss Muffin!

Kieren B.

Yelp
Came for the cute name and stayed for the patties. Nothing to hate about flavorful food, good texture, and kind service! I will definitely be back again soon

George M.

Yelp
This is my favorite place in New York City. I will take everyone who visits me from out of town to this amazing bakery.
google avatar

Deirdre L.

Yelp
My favorite party spot in the neighborhood! You get to choose from jerk chicken, beef, bbq chicken, curry chicken & more. They also have delicious cookies! Perfect for lunch or a snack!
google avatar

Art C.

Yelp
They should try smiling once in a while, but they make the best patties we've ever had (keep in mind our background with this cuisine is limited). We had several, all hot and flavorful... Actually I think I might run out and get a couple right now. You should too...

Lorraine D.

Yelp
I Never Leave Reviews However I Had To For This Place, I Had A Herk Chicken Patty For The 1st Time Today & Let Me Tell You, I'm Going Back Tomorrow! Absolutely Yummy!
google avatar

Victoria Q.

Yelp
Exactly what I was looking for. Muffins should be crunchy at the top and moist all the way through. My favorite place for muffins is baker's dozen but they're in Greenpoint. So happy to have found little miss. They're so friendly and happy to serve you. I played it safe and got the corn and lemon Poppy but will try all of their other flavors now that I know how delcious they are. Thank you for existing!!
google avatar

Alyssa R.

Yelp
I fell for Little Miss Muffin n Her Stuffin my very first visit. I ordered up two of their patties: jerk chicken and curry chicken and now I find myself craving them. The jerk and curry are both amazing with their golden flaky crust and I love them both equally. Don't make me choose between them - b/c I won't do it! The jerk is spicy but not too spicy to send you home cryin'. It has just the right amount of heat in each bite. And the curry? It's got this warm smokiness to it. It's gotta have some cinnamon mixed in there which takes the curry to the next flavor level. There's so much depth in these little patties. Patties are $2.50 a piece and when I say little I don't literally mean little. These guys are decent in size. I'd say one is a good sized snack and two could easily work for a meal. Anytime I know I'm going to be in Prospect Heights I make sure I've got cash on me so I can pick up a couple patties. If you haven't tried them yet - please do! But save a couple for me b/c chances are I'm on my over there right now. ;-)
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Got the patties. Best I've had. Taste freshly baked and favors inside were really good.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Great stop for lunch/quick bite after a morning at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden! I got a jerky chicken patty and a vegetarian patty. Both were so delicious and flavorful (spicy!). The crust was delicately crispy and the filling was warm. I felt uplifted by this pocket full of goodness and the lively Caribbean music. Definitely want to come back and try more of their menu!
google avatar

Taylor A.

Yelp
Best Trini that in food in town. Everyone I bring comes back how is it that I'm from Connecticut and found this golden gem and these people have lived in Brooklyn their whole life they serve food Wednesday through Saturday tell about 7:45 but come early because they sell out quick Their bakeries off the hook they have cookies made daily along with beef patties and Coco bread
google avatar

Christin M.

Yelp
Miss Muffin has the best patties in the Crown Heights neighborhood (and there are many places to hit if you have a patty jonesing). If you've lived your life feeling satisfied indulging in patties sporting the yellowish, cracker-like shell, your mind will be blown when you try the homemade deliciousness of Miss Muffin's homemade dough/pastry. It's soft flakiness surrounds and perfectly complements the meaty, juicy fillings. I love the spicy beef and jerk chicken varieties - but they have many options. Their goods are always fresh and they do run out. So stop in on the early side, or call ahead. And bring cash.
google avatar

Anni K.

Yelp
I went to a super fun retrospective show #piercardin #brooklynmuseum. After the show, I went down the street to Miss Little Muffin to grab a dozen of Jamaican beef patties and curry chicken patties. The minute you walk in this place, you know it's gonna be GOOD. OMG They are out of this world!!! Thin crust juicy beef, melts in your mouth, what a killer combo!!! I always plan for double dip, art/food is my top favorite (you heard it! Not shopping/food... #happybelly

Sinead W.

Yelp
My favorite place for trini foods! They have a wide range of foods and it tastes amazing! they have the best service!
google avatar

Serina J.

Yelp
Little Miss Muffin in her Stuffin is a small jem located in Crown Heights. They specialize in pastries and muffins but you can also buy things like salt fish bake, roti and patties. I have only gotten patties from there which are always fresh and good. I think I will try the salt fish baked next time and let you guys know how it was.

Samantha B.

Yelp
This place is the worst, No customer service skills at all! They literally take forever to serve one customer. Employees will look at you and won't even ask if you're being helped. I will never go in this establishment again.

Yelp
I stopped working in this neighborhood in 2012 and recently returned. This is the best new addition to Washington Avenue. These are the friendliest West Indians at a West Indian restaurant. If you have had any experience with this, then you know exactly what I mean. But that is just a small part of the pleasant experience at Little Miss Muffin N Her Stuffin. The beef patties are the very best patties I have ever had in Brooklyn. The very best. Homemade and perfect. The meat: so perfectly seasoned. The crust- flaky with just a hint of sweetness. Yes, these are the very best. Fridays and Saturdays they serve the hot meals. I first tried the bake and tilapia after smelling my coworker's absolutely amazing brunch. You have to get it fully loaded. The tilapia is well seasoned, the bake is better than any bread you could ever have for a sandwich. This is what Summer weekends are supposed to taste like. Now, I wanted to write this review after eating the bake and tilapia because it was the best thing I ever ate. That is, until I had the bake and saltfish. *sigh* The day I came in, the lovely girl behind the counter told me they had coconut bake that day. I'd never had coconut bake, but this is a place where you can try anything and you will be pleased. Pleased is an understatement. The slight sweetness of the coconut bake juxtaposed with the saltiness of the fish, marrying the spice of the pepper, against the cool crispness of the cucumbers, lettuce and tomatoes was a culinary symphony in my mouth. Tears literally sprang to my eyes as I devoured this sumptuous delight. I have never had anything so absolutely perfect to eat. This is Food Network worthy. I can't say enough about how good it is. They also have an awesome ginger lemonade and ginger mango that are so refreshing for these crazy summer days. I'm not a sweets person, but I have had a cookie, red velvet cupcake and blueberry scones, all of which were good to excellent. This place is worth every penny. (cash only) Enjoy your time here with good food, good customer service, and lots of love. Their food is made with lots of love. I know, because my heart wants nothing but the best for these people. Go and eat there today.

Emma S.

Yelp
This place is the best!! I've been coming here for years and every single time it's so good. Everyone who works here is kind and friendly. This is what this neighborhood is all about. Try the: - jerk chicken patties - curry chicken patties - cranberry muffins - chocolate chip cookies I haven't tried their roti or other curries but they always smell amazing and I'm certain are just as delicious if not more! Thanks for being such an important part of our neighborhood
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
I've been going here since I was in high school I think when the old location was park place and sterling. Now that's it's in my old-new neighborhood I'm still a patron of their food and still love their mild spicy beef patty (it's my favorite). I hope they stay opened for as long as they can, because they actually are a staple business in the community not a new business like most in prospect heights. Keep making good food guys.
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Took a walk here to get a very late breakfast on a Monday. Had the curried chicken and mild beef patties, which were out of this world. The crust is deep golden flaky deliciousness, and with just the right amount of filling. The flavor is too good to describe, and I couldn't decide which one I liked better. The curry was a sweet curry with a good amount of chicken, while the beef patty was a saucy ground beef that is indescribable. We tried to order some food to take with us but sadly told they only have food on certain days of the week (I can't recall which days). I'm just disappointed in myself for not taking more patties for the road! They have every muffin flavor you could imagine, and while I went savory over sweet, the muffins do look really good- and big! Will certainly come back here on our next trip to Brooklyn.
google avatar

Sokari E.

Yelp
Stopped by for a late pick me up late lunch. We thought we were going to eat a couple of patties but ended up with a small saltfish roti & small vegetable roti. Both delicious and filling. Clean quiet but the man serving was over enthusiastic about asking us for a bill we had already paid and failed to apologise when he realized the error. Sad as it soured an otherwise great little meal in local.neighbourhood. 4 stars for good 2 stars for service

Jessie S.

Yelp
I only had a patty and my friend a goat roti. The patty was good and the roti which I tasted was also good. So why the 3 stars? The attitude of the server. I'm from Trinidad so I'm used to poor customer service (sadly) which is usually tolerated by many because the food is so good however that was the past. With so many choices especially in Brooklyn ain't nobody tryna hear that. See you never Little Miss Muffin
google avatar

Sakira M.

Yelp
One word...DELICIOUS!! I used to go to their prior location but was saddened when I heard they had closed down. I jumped for joy when I heard they opened a new location on Washington Ave. Pros: Affordability, location, cleanliness, great customer service and last bit not least their fresh baked patties. I tried the following: jerk, curried an BBQ chicken and I must say they were ALL AMAZING!!! Cons: I wish they opened on Sunday
google avatar

Donna S.

Yelp
Good prices. Service was just ok. Will be back for the spicy beef patty. My sister had an oat muffin and loved it.
