The Seattle Karaoke Guide - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Maybe you’re a professional wedding singer and you need to rehearse some Earth, Wind, and Fire before a gig. Or, maybe you have another karaoke night coming up and want to build your confidence. In either case, Wednesday night karaoke at Little Red Hen in Green Lake is the perfect spot for singing without fear of embarrassment because nobody pays attention to what’s happening on stage. However, since this country-themed bar has line dancing lessons right before karaoke, don’t be surprised if people do the two-step while you perform “Gangster’s Paradise” without inhibition." - aimee rizzo

14 Fantastic Green Lake Restaurants

"The classic honky tonk is alive and well in Green Lake, complete with line dancing, live music, and well-priced cocktails. There’s a daily happy hour from 3-6 p.m., which knocks off a dollar for all regular-priced drinks. When hunger strikes, stick to the basics: burgers, wings, and tater tots are all solid choices. The Little Red Hen offers line dancing lessons on Mondays." - Sarah Engstrand

Went on the last Friday before the end of their lease, just in case. Sure hope they win in court, it would be a shame to loose LRH to money grubbing developers. Anyway, best night in a Seattle bar by far. Can't wait to go dancing again

mehul shah

Google
Superb energy in middle of the city at the best location around green lake! Also bonus, they teach you line dancing for free on monday night!

Google
There are so few dive bars left in Seattle and this place is an absolute gem. Expect simple drinks with a lower price point. I got two drinks and fries for $18. Amazing. The teachers are chill and the dancing is fun. It's a whole entire scene. Hella people came out to kick their boots up. They also let you bring food in. Which I didn't know but will keep in mind for later.

Google
Im sure this place is great and I probably will be coming back but on a different night. I wanted to country dance and Wednesdays is free range karaoke so not always country songs. Also the cider was not good. But I bet they have better stuff. People were very friendly

Google
I’ve been coming here sporadically on Sunday nights for years now and never thought to write the review this taste of Tennessee rightfully deserves. Serious musicianship happens here where people take brave risks, encouraged by the usually regular crowd and encouraging supporting environment. The bar is staffed by the best bartender ever and even the door man picks up a bass guitar and rocks out. Delightful surprises are common here and I’m so glad there’s a haven for folks like me.

Google
The bartender was really rude and told us to hurry up and make a decision. We were all together, and one of my friends wanted a drink that the bar was out of. In just 10 seconds, the bartender told her to hurry up and decide. Then he walked off to help some other customers, leaving us hanging at the bar. I get that my friend took about 15 seconds to figure it out, but that doesn’t give him a reason to be rude and just walk away. We also noticed on the way out he was wearing Ray Ban video recording sunglasses which is really creepy. The bartender was a white dude in his 30s with a limp. I don't think we will be coming back to this place.

Patrick

Google
The short boy bartender with the bad hair was immediately aggro, for no good reason. I'm just trying to get a draft, you don't need to give me attitude dude. Fix yourself. It's a shame because I've been here many times and had a good time. Losers trying to gatekeep a good time are pathetic.

Google
Really nice place with live music, had a great time here with friends. Food is really good so if you'd like to get some fried chicken and fries with a beer, you won't be disappointed. Make sure to bring your cowboy boots and a hat 🤠🎶

Yelp
Help save The Hen! This is hands down the best dive and dance bar in the Pacific Northwest--maybe even the entire U.S. If you love this place as much as we do, please take a moment to support it by signing the petition: https://chng.it/DWDgKJGWKd

Yelp
So my review heavily depends on why you are here, if it's for the dancing/dance lessons then absolutely this is the place to be especially Thursdays and the weekend. They had live loud music and people were loving it and wow it got packed quick The staff here is super friendly and although I didn't get a chance to try the food, the drinks were strong

Yelp
Love this bar in Greenlake, and I go every Thursday night (that I can) to two-step night. Really fun, vibrant dive bar with some very kind bartenders and staff. French fries are great, and they have a nice drink selection.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
If you're here for the food you're doing something wrong. The dancing is a blast and the live music is fun. Lots of strangers and partner swapping on the dance floor. Busy on the weekends. The fries are tasty and they'll even make you a White Russian.

Yelp
As an Appalachian native living in Seattle, this place is a slice of the best parts of home. People are friendly and welcoming if you treat them the same way. Drinks are affordable and good bang for your buck, don't expect a craft cocktail, get your vodka redbull or your modelo and take it easy. Line dancing on Mondays is so fun and very busy from what I've seen. Karaoke on Wednesdays is always a blast. Took all my coworkers of many different ages and backgrounds and everyone had a blast. These are good people and this is a fun place!

Sadie M.

Yelp
Low class place !!! Greenlake is much better then this place. Unfortunately we have no were here in Greenlake for live music so they settle.

H L.

Yelp
While the free line dance lesson was okay, it was very fast and only catered to the regular dancers returning week after week. This is NOT a place for beginners and doscourages you from simply dropping in to try it. The regular dancers here are very territorial and highly rude to newcomers (they even ask you to move!). As a seattleite I felt super uncomfortable and not welcome here. Subpar drinks. Very disappointed!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Staff and patrons are all Democrats pretending to be country. Not a real country bar. But it is Seattle after all, so I don't know what I was expecting. Ice tasted like mold too, so order your drink without it if you go. And don't bring up politics in conversation, especially your second amendment right to defend yourself.

DJ K.

Yelp
I like the ambience there. if you ever want the BEST cheesesticks, they are SO good. might also reccomend the chicken teryaki. So yummy. fun place. highly reccomend you check it out. Drinks are strong and people are very kind!

Ashlie I.

Yelp
I love love love the little red hen. I highly suggest taking beginner two step lessons on Thursday nights to start. You may just fall in love with the atmosphere and the dancing. I pretty much always go to lessons alone, and because you dance with everyone during lessons, staying is a blast and you can dance with your new friends. The staff is always very kind and the service is great. Your drinks will be strong, you will hear great music, and have a blast dancing.

Yelp
I came on a Saturday night for some live music where cover was $10/person. They were accepting cash or card for the cover. Drinks were crazy inexpensive for Seattle - 2 beers, a whiskey ginger, and a cider were only $24. Cover was definitely cheap to factor in the live music and the cheap drinks. As a lady, it would definitely be easy to come without a partner as there are many regulars that are really great at dancing and can swing you around. I'd definitely come back for some line dancing on other evenings!
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
I went for Sunday Open Mic night hosted by Billy Bodacious. I don't frequently listen to country, but was refreshing to hear the local Seattle musicians play a mix of country classics and original songs. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming for me jumping on stage and playing some original songs. I stuck around for the evening and got to play a second set of songs, backed by a bunch of great musicians who more than did a solid job keeping up with my songs and making them pop.

Yelp
Always love visiting Little Red Hen, I have so many memories from going here in college and my early 20s. Lots of great music and dancing. I wish they cleaned up the seating areas a bit though - the front was pretty full so we sat in the back section away from the bar. There were chairs stacked in the corner, a little messy all around. This place is a lot of fun but would be even better with some simple upgrades to the atmosphere. Will definitely be back on another night with live music though!!
google avatar

Ariana Q.

Yelp
Zero stars. Rudest staff I've ever encountered. Refused to take an order and female bartender was openly talking shit about customers. Wouldn't recommend.
google avatar

Adrian B.

Yelp
My boyfriend hates country but I love it. A good friend of mine lives nearby and we were here on Sunday open mike which had some local musicians playing, all seemed pretty good. Kind of your standard dive bar. They have dance lessons which I'm dying to get boyfriend to do with me but so far no luck, lol. I think the crowd here is nice usually but you get some pompous folks (as you can tell by some of the yelp reviews here, geesh, get a life) I can get the boyfriend to come back because the beers are cheap here. Hopefully we'll get to those dance lessons.

Christine K.

Yelp
Dropped in here on a Saturday around 6pm, long before the crowds arrived (I presume?). Some regulars at the bar, and eventually the band loaded in & set up. Bartender was friendly and efficient; someone recently off-shift who was hanging out pitched in & brought us a to-go box for the fries we couldn't finish. Standard fare. Overall B plus?
google avatar

Amin F.

Yelp
Great food and service. Only downside is it's small and you'll almost never get a walk-in table. Mimosas are great
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
Fun place if you enjoy country music. Have come a couple of times for line dancing Monday. Place is a tad too small for the amount of people that come out for line dancing. Place has great and nice bartenders! Good looking people come out as well, don't have to be worried about the wrong crowd being here. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
This place is disgusting. The picture I attached is from a wet paper towel I wiped the table with. There were rings of dirt around our beer glasses. I get that this is a dive bar but this is just disgusting. Beers are cheap and the music is fun though.

Jena B.

Yelp
Disappointed in the lack of country music at the country bar on line dancing night. That's all
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
Loved this place... it's a dive bar, country for that matter. Service was good overall, but don't expect to find your favorite beverage. It's pretty basic, but I guess to be expected. It's got a cool vibe and the karaoke is bumping till Tuesday, then live country. It's a fun spot, I'll come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Really good wings!! We loved the buffalo and garlic flavors (bbq is OK, did not try sweet chili). This was the perfect snack for watching Seahawks Sunday night football at home. Ordered via Grubhub for delivery, which showed up 30 minutes late and the food was cold. Luckily wings reheat really well! Would not blame the Little Red Hen for this- it looked like the order was ready on time, but got picked up late. Will definitely order again- could be our new gameday go-to!

Yelp
i originally went there to just review the place, it was recommended by another person at another pub. i learned that they have western style dancing nites. i like to dance! they have a nite, thursdays, when they have lessons. so i went the next thursday & began learning how to western dance, that instrutor, informed me they also a western line dance class on monday nites, i lined dance back in the`80`s. so i went to that too. re-learned some of the steps, and did a photo review! haven`t ate there there yet. did order a white russian/no rocks. what i got cost me $12.00, & it did not taste right. next time i`ll only order beer. i am also a contra dancer, been doing that for 30 years, with 3 different wives. a slow walzter too. the ambiance of the place is awesome, parking tho, can be a challenge. it`s located in a business-residencial area, so parking is at a premium. this pub has different venues every nite of the week. check it out online & you`ll see ......

Yelp
I personally love this little bar. They have live music most nights, dance lessons on Thursday's, and affordable drinks.

Yelp
Friendly service, unfriendly crowd. Beer on draft is cheap and honky-tonk tunes sorta remind me of good times back in Austin. HOWEVER, The Red Hen has only the gildings of a honky-tonk good time because the typical SEATTLE FREEZE and SNOBBY cliquishness consistently kills the vibe. I gave a 4 star review before, but I realized now I gave this place WAY TOO MUCH benefit of the doubt. LOCAL and REGULAR are preconditions to dance here. Everyone else need not apply. Seattle newcomers and Texas expats GTFO!!!!! If you come for the lessons, don't bother staying when they open the floor. You'll just want to leave after and hone your skills elsewhere (God knows where in this town...lol) because if you come alone and want to lead, you will most likely be turned down--Guaranteed honky-tonk DISAPPOINTMENT. TL; DR -- good music and cheap beer but HORRIBLE crowd. Bring your own partner bar (for those who want to lead). Another observation: a lot of people like to come here, especially on weekends, and gawk at other people dancing while whispering about them and not dancing themselves. I would say the gawkers outnumber the dancers. Maybe because a country bar is such an oddity here (I did not see much of this behavior in Texas). Lol The only utility you could get from here is if you wish to punctuate your boredom from going to too many coffee shops and listening to too many mediocre underground bands...maybe with something unusual like country music played by a mix of half real country bands...and the other half by pseudo hipsters yearning for some roots authenticity in a rootless town where everyone seems to speak in newscaster's English.

Yelp
A very fun little country bar outside of Seattle. The drinks are well made and reasonably priced; they have live music and a tiny dance floor to get your two step on! The band that we saw was great and they did a nice mix of covers and original songs. There's more seating than there is room to dance but was a great time! Just a heads up there is t a lot of parking and we paid a $5 cover.
google avatar

Kristen B.

Yelp
I stopped in on a Monday night to check out the free line dancing lessons and escape the heat ... First of all it was so cold it felt so good compared to outside.. It was happy hour and I ordered some hot wings and a draft IPA.. The wings were delicious perfectly sauced and only $5 for I believe 8 with some ranch and celery and carrots... Line dancing was fun I stayed after and even sang a song for Monday night karaoke.. Totally friendly crowd a mixture of all ages .. Both bartenders were dolls especially Mimi... I can't wait to go back I love this place !

Yelp
Country dancing! Live music six nights per week! Large screen TVs What more could anyone want? Affordable drinks in Seattle! Typical bar food that is GREAT! Dance floor is small and full of excellent dancers! Atmosphere A+++ Bathrooms are old and a bit smelly but I don't care! I highly recommend the Little Red Hen! Come dance with me! LIVE MUSIC WITH GREAT BANDS!
google avatar

Yelp
5 stars for staying in theme all the way through. This place is a relax and come as you are kind of place. No frills and no problems. (Leave them at the door) Always affordable if they have a cover charge and always fun and reliable for dancing/entertainment. The staff is always helpful and attentive with great drinks! I've frequented this establishment these past 7 years and it's always been a blast to come by for good times! Thank you!

Yelp
Little Red Hen is the perfect dive bar in Greenlake, good appetizers and affordable prices.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
Gone n' dunnit! I found Mecca. I'm really not sure how I managed to live in Seattle my entire life and never go to The Little Red Hen until last night. I am forever changed. First of all - it turns out line dancing is my calling. It's what's been missing in my life. Second of all, the nicest bartender ladies in the world. Third of all, friendliest wackadoo bar crowd in Seattle. And finally, an entire night of drinkin' and dancin' and I only spent $20. Now, if that ain't somethin', I don't know what.
google avatar

Inna B.

Yelp
This is no fancy pants gourmet spot, but it's not trying to be... and it's a good place to chill out with a beer and some standard bar eats near Green Lake. I hear it can get much louder and crazier when there's a live show going on, but I've (thankfully- because it's not my kind of thing) never been there at such a time. The first time I came here, I was craving a burger. Sadly I was craving a veggie burger, and they don't have those. I was craving a burger badly enough, however, that I decided to have the beef one. It wasn't fabulous or bad. It was good enough, and pretty much what I expected to find at a neighborhood cowboy-ish bar. The second time I came here was for a beer with a friend after finding a happy hour meal elsewhere. Most of the other customers were much older than me, but they were all having a good time and plenty of them seem very chatty and up for an amusing conversation. Good times!
google avatar

Karynne T.

Yelp
Are you looking for that dive bar that you can sing great or terrible karaoke and line dance your heart out while wearing some cowboy boots all while in a dark lit room in the middle of the city? Then you have found the right place! This little place tucked in Greenlake is your spot and you can come here all the time, because everyone might eventually know your name (no reference to cheers at all...=)) But, this is a great little dive bar that I would highly recommend for those chill evenings with friends. It is a hit or miss on the liveliness of the place and it all depends on who is around.
google avatar

Joe H.

Yelp
Cheap drinks and good vibes! Always a good time at the Hen! I get the Margarita or Moscow Mule, and a Manny's on tap. Tater tots are crispy and delicious, the rest of the menu is just ok but gets the job done when you're drinking and need a bite.
google avatar

Trisha F.

Yelp
This $#!&ing bar. Austin is absolutely the $hit. He defines service with a smile and is professional and knowledgeable. Aside from that staffing note, this bar has multiple personality disorder. Family friendly restaurant by day, divey little country bar by night, karaoke and college kids on Wed, live bands most of the weekend. Crowd varies widely, so plan ahead!
google avatar

Victoria T.

Yelp
The band was okay. The three stars are for the fact that there is something resembling twang in Seattle. I'm from Kentucky, I'll take what I can get.

Yelp
I went to sing July 3rd and was staying in Seattle for a trip for my birthday. No one with me..usually have a good time anywhere. When I put my name in the DJ said it "would be about 25 singers". After 1)TWELVE or so, including a dark-haired young lady named Gabby was pit up about four times in the same set, I went back up to him. He's said "18 more singers." I replied..." But I was 25 singers , twelve singers ago. " He just said ,"well now you're EIGHTERN".I thought maybe he took bribes so I asked the guy sitting next to me. He said I don't think so because I gave him $10 and I'm still not up and it's been awhile." I waited two hours. I have never in my life waited two hours and not been put up to sing. I'm originally from Dallas and even though the DJ's there did take bribes with the exception of one who was an amazing DJ and pretty much spoiled me, it seems that this DJ has a particular frame of mind when it comes to putting up new singers. After 2 hours watching young people dance and listen to a lot of them sing off-key, I kept thinking this is going to be great as soon as I get up there to sing Because I've been told I'm a good singer. In fact sometimes people cannot stop themselves from coming up to me and going on and on about how good I am. So I was looking forward to just having a good time and everyone else have a good time too. I love singing classic rock... bands like Led Zeppelin, Journey, and more recently Foo Fighters, Audioslave, ACDC. And when I want the crowd to sway and feel good icing journey and usually like to warm up with Fleetwood Mac and so on. Sometimes it's about listening to a good singer and letting that be your good time. But whatever...after 2 hours I left feeling dejected and disappointed. So that's wy this review happened. If it's karaoke disguised as a dance party, why not just play dance music.

Yelp
The line dancing lessons are fun, though the regulars can be really territorial. The bartender is a cut-and-dry kind of lady: give her your order and she'll give it right back. Nothing fancy, no frills, just outlaw country over the speakers and Martina McBride karaoke. I will echo some of the other reviews that complained about the cleanliness of the tables. By the end of the day, they can be pretty sticky, but I didn't see any hygiene problems with the glassware.

Kevin B.

Yelp
We saw this place a few weeks ago and thought it would be cool so we came back today. They open at 3 we were there at 3:05 and the door was locked. A regular patron who called them by name knocked on the door. The bartender who was opening on Saturday 12/18 thought it was us and so after she told us to wait 15 minutes because she wasn't ready, proceeded to tell us how annoyed she was with us. First of all, it wasn't even us, but also, who does that? We left and the business owner probably lost out on about $200 because we drink a lot. We went from being excited about it being our first to leaving within 20 minutes. Next time, maybe the bartender should show up on time and be ready to open when she's supposed to - if she did, none of this would have happened. Lame.
google avatar

J K.

Yelp
Years ago this was a kitschy dive bar for old Green Lake locals. But now it's a little oasis for young hipsters and recently graduated frat dudes. (I have nothing against frat dudes, since I am a frat dude myself.) The place has a great energy to it. Relaxed. Nice customers. Responsive bartenders. Cheep prices -- relative to other Seattle venues. Awesome fun karaoke on Wednesday where people actually dance to the songs. The place is sorta dirty. The bathrooms are a little nasty. The drinks and beer come in plastic cups. But that just reminds me of the frat days. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
My fiance & I have been meaning to go to Little Red Hen ever since we moved to Greenlake a couple years ago, and finally made it out here a couple weeks ago after dinner at Lucia across the street. Now, this bar is GREAT at what it does: it's a country dive bar, often has a live band, and a great dance floor. It's a bit boisterous and a little grimy around the edges, but it's also what makes this place feel so authentic. My group had such a blast!
google avatar

Cindy F.

Yelp
It was my first time going to a country bar/ dance bar and I had an AMAZING time. Live music, lots of people dancing and cheap drinks. What more could I ask for. I definitely recommend this place for any country lover or people that just love to dance.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
My first review was from a karaoke night, and I had a blast. This review in reasons to a typical Saturday night. It was still fun, but the dance floor is a lot more "exclusive". Basically, if you don't know how to line dance you can't dance. As one of the only country bars in Seattle, this is disappointing as not everyone wants to. I came with three other girls and we were shunned if we weren't dancing with a male partner. This was annoying. Besides that, it's always a great time here.
google avatar

Kristine H.

Yelp
Excellent service with a sometimes eclectic menu, I stopped in after a massage/facial in the area and I was not disappointed with my late lunch. My side salad was massive and my homemade onion rings were plentiful. I chose a hamburger steak with grilled mushrooms and onions with creamy mash and gravy. There was a LOT of food. Had I known the onion rings were so many, I would have skipped it. I ended up bringing half of my main dish home for dinner later. Country music and stiff drinks with a healthy dollop of people-watching as the place began to fill up. I had fun and would return easily with friends to split some apps and drink.
google avatar

Lindy C.

Yelp
I'm not sure about this place... I'm from Texas so I do have a standard for county bars and this didn't meet it. It is however probably the best your gonna get in Seattle area. Lots of fake cowboys and wanna bes, which makes for great people watchin. Staff was friendly however food was just ok. Is worth coming to watch and the live music is huge bonus!!! Wouldn't come for anything else.
google avatar

Wes J.

Yelp
Best bar in Seattle period ! Icon . Dying breed . Best Country bands in the PNW . Cheap booze and great atmosphere ! My kinda place . Many many great memories here I think .. It's a country bar and folks should not come here and expect Hip Hop or rock/rap .. that's what makes this place special .
google avatar

Robyn H.

Yelp
Every up and coming neighborhood needs a dive bar to keep it real and The Little Red Hen is Greenlake's reality check. Local country and bluegrass bands rotate through this cozy bar on a weekly, or even, monthly basis. Free country western dance lessons are Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. Even if you don't dance, hang out and watch the folks who have the courage to try. A true local's refuge, their motto could be, "Service with a Sneer". Don't try to carry on a conversation with the surly bartender on Tuesdays, just take your drink and get the hell away. Breakfast and lunch are served till 2:00pm but you'll have to review the food 'cause I've never tried it.
google avatar

Yelp
A real-life country honky tonk in Seattle's Greenlake. In a town filled with irony and ersatz, the Little Red Hen is a bite of a real thing, albeit plunked down quizzically in Seattle, right off of Greenlake. This place has real cowboys, real country folks who wears there pressed Wrangler's, boots and hats. And then they dance! dance! dance! It is so cool to watch people who know how to dance do it, and these guys do. Two-stepping and all sorts of couple dancing, as well as line dancing in the middle of the dance floor. If you are a girl, you'll get asked by some 70 year old guy to dance, and he'll be a gentleman, and show you that he knows better than your 25-year old boyfriend how to dance. Then he'll say thank you and go back to his beer. They have live music very often. Dance lessons at least one night a week. Beer, full bar and food. A great place for a party. But it's for having fun, not making fun of (ya feel me?).

Yelp
Is there any way I can give it a zero out of five stars? Terrible place. Bartender was rude to my friend and I. Won't be going there anymore.
