The Ride-Along Report: First Takes From Last Night’s Dinner - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"What It Is: An all-day Australian spot in Santa Monica Perfect For: Casual Midweek Dinner, Coffee And A Light Bite, Breakfast Little Ruby is yet another Australian cafe, and this new Santa Monica spot serves mostly stuff you’d expect: avocado and vegemite toasts, healthy sounding bowls, and of course, excellent coffee. On our visit, we didn’t see a whole lot that differentiates Little Ruby from the rest of the Aussie cafes in LA, except the fact that it’s open at night, when they serve burgers and pastas. Overall, this is a good option for breakfast in Santa Monica, but if you’re specifically looking for an Australian cafe, there are better options around. Verdict: A fine spot for daytime food, but not the best Australian cafe around." - Jess Basser Sanders, Brant Cox, Brett Keating

11 Australian Coffee Shops for Laid-Back Morning Vibes in LA - Eater LA

"Breezy Australian import Little Ruby checks all the boxes for a relaxed afternoon meal in Los Angeles. A neon sign-adorned patio that begs for mass Instagramming? Check. Unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean and avocado toast? Check and check. Put it all together, and there may be nothing more quintessentially LA than snacking on that toast made with Gjusta bread while taking in the millennial-approved surrounds." - Crystal Coser, Farley Elliott

"The jump to open Èlephante comes on the heels of (and just around the corner from) Little Ruby, his collaboration with the Ruby Cafe folks out of New York City." - Farley Elliott

We were really excited to try it here given the great reviews and how good everything sounded but we were really underwhelmed. The location is great and the service was prompt and friendly but that was the best part of the experience as most of the food was bland and underwhelming. The banana bread with passion fruit spread was the highlight and the most flavorful thing and we enjoyed it, and the spicy sausage pasta was really good but nothing that I couldn't get elsewhere. The fried chicken burger had no flavor, and the crispy rice bowl was almost inedible. It was hard crunchy rice, like a combination of undercooked rice and savory rice crispies with vegetables. At $25pp for burgers and pasta I expected more flavor.

We really enjoyed our meal here. We had the grain bowl and the crispy rice bowl, both were really tasty. The prices were fair, the staff was friendly, and the vibe was pretty cool. If you’re in the area, I’d recommend it. Try to get a seat outside if you can!

Good brunch spot to hit up if you're ever in Santa Monica. It's an Aussie-style cafe that serves salads, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and grain bowls. This joint gives you a very relaxed and local vibe. It has a very cute little patio and has a great location right by the ocean. MUST TRY - chicken burger, truffle fries and watermelon juice. I really enjoyed their chicken burger. The chicken was tender and crispy and paired perfectly with the coleslaw. Their truffle fries were also on point. My boyfriend got their cheeseburger and it was ok. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't amazing. The thing that I absolutely loved was their watermelon juice. It was super refreshing and super yummy.

I love this cute little cafe in Santa Monica that is right near Ocean. This is an Australian style cafe that has really trendy vibes. I'm such a plant lover, so all of the plants on the tables and outside I find so adorable. The menu has a lot to choose from. The brunch options are great, but they also have yummy lunch options as well. The avo toast with egg is plated so beautifully and very delicious. The egg sandwich is amazing as well. I sub the bacon for avocado which is delightful. Their fries with truffle aioli are seriously amazing as well as the sweet potato fries with sour cream & sweet chili. Get some for the table. You will not be disappointed. The pastas that I have tried here were very satisfying as well as the healthy bowl options that they have. Everything looks delicious and tastes just as delicious. This is a perfect place to come and then hit the beach on the weekend.

The sweet potato fries with the crema and sweet chili drizzle were to die for! Also the chicken sandwich has been one of the best I’ve had, and I’m from the South. ;) The watermelon alcoholic bevvie was good, but didn’t seem to pack any sort of punch 🥊

I did not expect that LA also has Ruby, the food quality is the same as New York, the children love their classic cheeseburger so much!!

Great little lunch spot! My mom is gluten free so she's usually stuck with ordering a salad, but Little Ruby has lots of gluten free options and GF bread and pasta. My sister and I both got the fried chicken burger, my mom got the BLT on a GF bread and we all got the strawberry basil lemonade. Food, drinks, service, everything was excellent. Highly recommend and I'll definitely be back when I'm in town visiting!
