On the Grid : Little Neck

"This casually classy seafood restaurant is a date night favorite and a shellfish's nightmare. Hearty beach fare like fried whole belly Ipswich clam roll, classic Maine lobster rolls and a unique clam chowder sandwhich are balanced with lighter options like pea shoot salad and chargrilled broccolini. Enjoy it all in the New England nautical-themed dining room with an ice cold beer or an original cocktail. Don't care for fish? Try the chicken & waffles or the cheeseburger with bacon jam." - Hyperakt

NYC Restaurant Closings, February 2023 - Eater NY

"Littleneck Outpost has been temporarily closed since last August, when the owners papered over the windows to renovate the space. The business will be replaced this year by Oh Mercy, a cafe. Partners Aaron Lefkove and Andy Curtin opened Littleneck Outpost in 2014; it was an offshoot of their Gowanus seafood restaurant Littleneck, which is still open." - Luke Fortney

Google
Quite disappointing experience. Food arrived in a to-go containers so the cool photos of chic dinning didn’t match what we had experienced . I got the kimchi bowl which was not good and my partner had the sausage eggs and cheese sandwich which was quite big but bad- it was sweet . In addition to all my oat milk pistachio latte was way too hot.

Google
What a cute little gem in Brooklyn, New York. Located on the corner with a few tables inside and outside this place has a great vibe. Variety of healthy and tasty food is great. We had breakfast sandwiches for the second time this week and they have been absolutely delicious. Good coffe as well. Service is good and kind. Prices are very reasonable. Will be back here for sure.

Google
Great lunch spot, genuinely creative and tasty salads and sandwiches that are a step above the norm. The google description is weird though, I would not call this a 'New England style seafood spot' at all. It has a variety of options including salads, sandwiches, chicken, pork, vegetarian, etc.

Google
Cute place with nice variety of food, but don't get the broccoli rabe sandwich. Truly one of the weirdest and worst sandwiches I've ever eaten. It's literally just a row of broccoli rabe logs on focaccia. It's not cooked soft enough that biting it will break it up, so when you take a bite you'll pull out entire whole pieces of broccoli rabe. And it was bland. I'll probably come back to try the other items, but this was such a bad sandwich. Really not sure why it's on the menu. edit: love the passive aggressive response from the owner! sorry that this sandwich sucks. ✌️😎

Google
Sounds of the 80’s and shades of green on a Saturday - my new simple pleasures prompt. Definitely worth a visit, and I will definitely be back for another mushroom sandwich and matcha latte very soon.

The Brothers Buoy

Google
This place is just plain lovely. While a bit pricey, the quality of ingredients and light filled atmosphere are definitely worth it. Definitely try the avo toast, any of the egg sandwiches and the roasted beer salad.

Google
Ordered a turmeric latte and matcha latte. They charge an extra 0.50 to make a latte iced which I find very annoying and gauche. Good lattes and service. They also sell small kitchen goods, like sardines and hot sauces from a small pantry.

Google
Love the sandwiches. Actually I just stole a couple of bites from my friends pimento sandwich but its two pieces of bread piled on with cheese and relish(?), so flavorful and so satisfying. The place is small and cute, there are a lot of people sitting around in just laptops and doing nothing else, but if you go at a good hour it’s very low key and quiet.

Yelp
TL:DR- Good working cafe, WiFi was strong, but they close at 4 and reopen at 5. Food: I only had an Americano, which was fine (I was more focused on the ambiance and working conditions, but I'll try food next time) Service: the barista was nice, no complaints Ambiance: cute cozy interior and there's a nice backyard

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee/breakfast shop in Greenpoint. I love the vibe in here. I like that you have the option to swap out bread for grains to make any of the sandwiches a bowl. The coffee stamp card is also a fun idea. I lived in Greenpoint for the past year and am moving tomorrow, and I'm sad that this place is no longer going to be a part of my neighborhood routine. Definitely check this place out. They have a cute outdoor patio section in the back, too!

Yelp
Not sure why this place doesn't have a higher rating. Very cute and cozy vibe inside. The food is super fresh, large portions, and they have hot sauce/olive oil/salt/pepper you can easily add to adjust the food to your liking. I usually just get an iced oat chai but I needed to try one of their breakfast sandwiches because everyone else in the cafe had one, and they looked absolutely delicious. I got the avocado sandwich, just a classic breakfast sandwich on nice ciabatta--softly scrambled eggs with cheddar and avocado. Added hot sauce. Devoured in a matter of seconds. I would like to try their beyond sausage breakfast sandwich which seems to be one of their most popular items. The high quality bread they use makes a huge difference. Menu is very extensive for a small cafe. Staff was very friendly and made my order immediately.

Yelp
I got SEC in between two pieces of focaccia. The bread was really what made the sandwich a delight. Enjoyed the maple syrup which was delicious to eat with the thick piece of focaccia! There's about 6 tables inside (in addition to some tables outside)? That seat two ppl each so seating is limited inside but ppl seem to tend to go in and out pretty quickly after they finish eating so finding a spot shouldn't be too bad! Really enjoyed the gigantic windows -- so much gorgeous natural light that made the place a joy to dine at and read in! A great place for a quick weekend brunch if you're on the go or want to briefly catch up with a friend! I'd come back and try more of their sandwiches! Coffee's not bad too!

Yelp
I spend many Sunday mornings here. Love the breakfast sandwiches (the mushroom one is fav!), and the granola bowl are delicious. Good coffee, big iced tea, and wonderful service. It's gets full around 11-1, but earlier it's pretty easy to snag a table outside and enjoy watching the dogs and babies passing by

Yelp
Their tuna sandwich is so good (4.6/5), one of the best I've had in the city. It's a cute little cafe. I would come here during the weekends after a game of basketball for a coffee and a sandwich. The bread is fresh, and they can make anything to go.

Yelp
While wandering aimlessly through Greenpoint, I stumbled upon Littleneck Outpost and was pleasantly delighted. It's a cozy and cute coffee shop offering a healthy array of breakfast and lunch items. I ordered a tuna sandwich for $12. The tuna salad sandwich usually comes with ciabatta bread but I substituted the ciabatta with focaccia bread. The focaccia was warm, crisp, airy and delicious. The tuna was tasty and was complimented well with tasty green olives and fresh greens. Staff was very friendly.

Yelp
Not sure why this place isn't rated higher? The sandwiches here are amazing. I also forgot my water bottle here and they kept it for me'

Yelp
Great spot for sandwiches and bowls. Quick service and great location on a corner on Franklin
google avatar

Yelp
The barista is "not allowed to let customers use the bathroom." Nevermind that I purchased something expressly to use the bathroom--a perfectly functional WC. Is it a crime to need a toilet at a coffee shop? Won't be back.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Littleneck! I used to go the Gowanus location a fair amount but now I'm a Greenpoint stalker. I don't live in the neighborhood but I really should. I'm in Greenpoint allllll the time! After attending one of my favorite events of the year, Bustcraftacular, I was famished. And I've been so weird about food lately. That's what's absolutely fabulous about Littleneck. They took me out of my food funk and made me incredibly happy. The space was packed. I threw my bag down. The tables are tight. As I squeezed in I accidentally knocked the table next to me which caused some hot chocolates to spill. A debacle that I quickly cleaned up. I ordered the smoked trout toast..I know...no avocado toast!? No. I needed out of the funk. Something about smoked trout makes me happy. This place makes it with creme fraiche, micro greens, shaved watermelon radishes and pickled mustard! I had to top it with a perfectly poached egg. I believe they cook the eggs before hand and then place them on the toast. My meal was chill. It came out as a work of art and it tasted heavenly! Everything complemented each other and had the right amounts of creamy, smoky and salty! I will undoubtedly return for this toast with a hot cup of coffee and a spot by the window sans hot chocolate debacle. This place is the reason Greenpoint is so great. It makes you feel at home.

Yelp
Littleneck Outpost boasts a menu with simple, tasty, and for the area, pretty fair-priced fare. I frequently get the avo toast with egg and the beet salad. Both make for filling and semi-healthy lunches. They've also got baguette sandwiches (ham and butter or egg and cheese) that look very tempting. The pricier side of their menu includes shrimp and lobster rolls. The establishment is adorned in cute wares, cookbooks, and canned things (sardines, etc) that you can buy. They also serve coffee and ice cream sandwiches from MELT. Service can get a little slow around lunch, but if I order ahead and walk over (~5 minutes), it's usually ready by the time I get there. Dine in (they've got a few tables) or take your lunch to the park across the street...or the waterfront just a few blocks away. Perfect picnic fare.

Great neighborhood spot! Good vibes all around, delicious coffee and interesting and tasty menu. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Love this place, cozy with a great vintage vibe. Sausage egg breakfast sandwich is delicious, substantial, savory & sweet

Yelp
Im glad I did not read the reviews. We were looking for a quick bite in this neighborhood and stopped in yesterday. Our compliments to the staff who worked Saturday afternoon. The service is incredible. The sandwiches were phenomenal. Everything was warm, fresh, excessive, and full of delicious flavors. It was a pleasant surprise, one the best treats I ever had.

Yelp
Cool little coffee shop about a block off of Greenpoint Ave. Not too much seating here. About eight or nine two seat tables. Some of the seating are benches which are comfortable. Big and tall Windows which is great on a sunny day. There's a counter for orders in the back. Coffee and tea and a limited menu for breakfast and lunch. I had a egg and sausage and peppers on a breakfast roll. The sandwich was really good. Sausage and the peppers were cooked just right and tasted great. They also have juices and pastries as well.

Jennifer J.

Yelp
When I think about it, I didn't really like the food. It was cold and the texture was weird.
google avatar

Maggie D.

Yelp
I went in for a quick bite and decided to get a sandwich with just cheese, roasted tomato, and garlic mayo. It was on 2 big pieces of focaccia bread, which tasted great, but the whole sandwich was cold and nothing special. The tomatoes didn't have any flavor and didn't add anything to the sandwich. My stomach also hurt a couple of hours after eating. For a drink, I ordered an earl grey tea, which was not great. I think going to Starbucks would have been better. The ambience is at least cute inside with items you can purchase like chocolate, sauces, etc.

Yelp
After a one year boycott for rude service I decided to give them another chance ...My bowl came out so poorly cooked I kindly asked for it to remade, the cashier said that's just how it comes and refused to have it corrected. Very sad was once a good lunch spot that I regularly frequented. I attempted twice to contact the owner / manager without a reply.
google avatar

Caitlyn C.

Yelp
I'm honestly not sure why this place only has a three star rating. I've been in here many times for coffee, snacks, food, beverages and I am always satisfied. It's definitely overpriced, but I think most places in NYC are and atleast here the quality is very good. The avo toast and grain bowls are great here! I also really love their espresso!
google avatar

Victoria H.

Yelp
I got food poisoning here. This cafe was a recommendation from someone who lives in the area. I walked over Saturday afternoon without looking at reviews. Big mistake. All of the people who left reviews about this being a spot run by careless hipsters are, unfortunately, spot on. The service is non-existent. I was not greeted by the cashier, and he didn't make any eye contact. Female server who brought out food orders slammed them down on customers' tables. She never smiled, didn't reply to anyone's "thank you"s. In general, not an welcoming environment. And yes, the food quality wasn't there - see first sentence of this review.

Yelp
I really like Littleneck Outpost, been going here since 2017. However since Seth left management it hasn't been the same. He was one of the main reasons of me going every morning. Oh well.. other than that what I've tried in terms of food always delivers, particularly the chorizo sandwich and the sausage, egg and cheese sandwich. I used to love the granola bowl and the avocado toast but it's sad they got twice as small since the first time I tried it, for the same price. They can also improve on cleanliness.
google avatar

Louise R.

Yelp
I was extremely annoyed by the fact that I asked for a lobster roll and for a lettuce wrap rather than a bun, it was thrown on a bed of arugula and it was 21$ for lobster that didn't even taste that fresh and was about 1.5 oz of lobster meat. In addition there was a choice between CT and ME style and I wasn't notified about or offered an option. When I asked the cashier about it, she said oh it's either with butter or mayo. I was like well then I definitely prefer butter. She must have selected one on my behalf rather than asking me and not notifying me of my choices really gets my goat. My friend ordered the "new" grilled cheese and it was very bland on pumpernickel. This place is pricey and the food is below mediocre. The decor reminds me of eastern long island which is nice. They sell artisinal items on the side. I wouldn't come back here.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
Their egg and avocado sandwich is amazing. The sourdough bun was super fresh, and overall, it made my morning. I also really enjoyed the granola, but next time I will get it without the spicy honey. (It was too much for me.)

David S.

Yelp
Honestly some of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had. They do their eggs perfectly. Fluffy and not cooked too fast.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
I love this place, the sandwiches are great, the coffee is great. The vibes inside are awesome, lots of very cool design, and the outdoor seating is very nice in the sun as well. Highly recommend. I go almost every day.

Yelp
I REAAALLLY like this place, so much that I contemplated eating lunch and dinner there today when I had already eaten breakfast there this morning. I can truly say this is my neighborhood spot for coffee and breakfast sandwiches. It's located only a few steps away from my apartment so it's very convenient. The place is very cozy with a few places to sit. They also have free wifi, just ask them and they'll give you the password. Sandwiches I have ordered: Sage & Eggs: usually served on focaccia bread, what I love about it is that it also has scallions/green onions on it. Egg, Sausage & Cheese: this is one is my fave, what's special about this sandwich is that they drizzle maple syrup inside so its got that sweet & savory taste. Smoke Salmon: served in a ciabatta bun with cream cheese, dill, and arugula. I like the salmon, it was just too big of a bun for me. Regardless, I still enjoyed it! Mini Egg Salad Baugette's are also really yummy, they're my go to when I want something quick!
google avatar

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
The coffee is trash. Go across the street to Home Coming for a coffee that's brewed properly and pay the same $5 bucks. The food is below average - i had a sausage egg and cheese on focaccia. The focaccia wasn't toasted and there was no cheese. They drizzled both pieces of bread with maple syrup, which I get, but even that was done poorly. The restaurant itself is filthy. Legit one of the most filthy restaurants you can step foot in. Littleneck Outpost makes your neighborhood good dirty Chinese joint feel like the Four Seasons. From the floors, to the menu's (the MENU was filthy!) and all the way back to the kitchen, which you can see clear as day from the register. It's incredibly clear that ownership has no intention of taking care of their establishment. I'm not really too sure why the hipsters of greenpoint like It so much. There are over a half a dozen breakfast spots in the neighborhood that are light years ahead of this dump. Oh, and their music choice is excruciatingly painful to listen to.
google avatar

Oliver S.

Yelp
Ordered the country ham, which was EXTRAORDINARILY salted, to a degree that was inedible and obviously a mistake. Rather than take it back and refund me, they said "that was the way its supposed to be." After asking the person to try the sandwich, they refused. How can you make that verdict without at least trying it? Definitely never ordering from here again. Their sandwiches are overpriced for their size and they definitely do not take accountability for their mistakes, which I take as a sign of really immature customer service. Also the wait time for a tiny sandwich is ridiculously long (like 20 minutes at least).
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Just spent a week in Cape Cod and had to come back to Brooklyn for a quality lobster roll. Big chunks of fresh lobster and a sauce that does not over power. Lightly toasted bread and a nice portion of chips fill out the lunch. Compwtilvely priced for the area a solid lunch. Free wifi is a plus and relaxing music choice pits this on my list of lunch stops Ill come back to
google avatar

Justyna K.

Yelp
It's a cute spot, I've tried coffee here, which is very good and avocado toast. It was very simple and very tasty. As much as I enjoyed it I wouldn't come here for lunch because the portions are too small to be lunch, it's more of a snack place but at a price of a meal.

Alison C.

Yelp
The food was great, the vibe is cool, but it honestly was sooo dirty that I got really grossed out. I'm surprised that not more people have talked about this. Just look up at the ceiling. It makes me wonder if the front of house is that dirty, what does the kitchen look like? Please just hire someone to clean this place.

Lauren B.

Yelp
This place keeps me alive. Their breakfast sandwiches are unreal, it's nice and calm in there, solid coffee. I'm not even vegetarian and I would rather have their mushroom egg and cheese breakfast sandwich than a BEC. Potato egg and cheese is also great if you don't like mushrooms.
google avatar

Charlie R.

Yelp
I've come here three times now. The first two times the service and food was great. I got the grain bowl and the portions were large- really hit the spot. The last time I came here ( a couple months ago) the youngish girl behind the counter was rude, stand-offish, and had some serious attitude. She seemed like she didn't want to be there and was really arrogant. Not wanting to be there is fine, but having attitude towards customers isn't cool. Having said that, this alone wouldn't really bother me. In addition to the 'tude, the portion size of the grain bowl was about half of the previous two times. It was tiny and I was still hungry afterwards. I'm going to give this place another try and update after.

Yelp
Loved this special place in Greenpoint. Great coffee, background music, and overall vibe. We dropped in while walking around from our hotel, William Vale. It reminded us of S&S Corner Shop   in East Hampton. Perfection. Also - loved discovering Lonesome Woods candles. http://www.lonesomewoods.com

Yelp
Delicious espresso drinks, creative sandwiches and baked goodies, lots window seats to hang out, and wi-fi to get some work done.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. This spot has a delicious beyond sausage breakfast sandwich but I am compelled to write this review and give them one star because the last 5-6 times I have either ordered my sandwich or tried to order it have been frustrating and negative to say the least. 3 times when upon arriving to pick up my breakfast sandwich (after giving them a solid 40 minutes to prepare it) I was told me they were out of beyond sausage but they could make me something else or refund me. After this happened 3 times, I started trying to call in advance to ensure they had beyond sausage so as to avoid wasting my time and theirs - and every time I call, their phone rings UNANSWERED for minutes. nobody ever picks up except for one time when the woman who answered made it highly apparent she was irritated that I was calling to ask if they had beyond sausage as she was extremely busy, and informed me I needed to order via the app. I explained that I was happy to order via the app (as I always have done) but that most of the time my sandwich order hasn't been ready for pickup when I arrive because they don't always have some of the ingredients. her response was rude and short and exasperated explaining that they were extremely busy and she did not have time to answer the phone. This place has really yummy food but overall my experience trying to get breakfast here has been consistently awful and beyond disappointing. :( There are also constantly issues with their website / app you order through, which they mention when I arrive (pls fix?) and so every time they have apparently not had ingredients for the sandwich I ordered, there is no notification or email alert or communication from them asking if I would like to substitute for anything else. Every single time, I have only found this out when arriving at the store to pick up my order. As I don't want to substitute for anything else, and this experience usually wastes 40+ minutes of my day, leaving me hungry and irritated, it is pertinent for me to call and have a 5-second conversation to find out if they have beyond sausage that day. when you're paying $11 for a breakfast sandwich and $6-7 for a plain iced coffee (which you can't even order on the app by the way, you can only order any coffee beverages in the store, upon arriving to pick up your other food - for god knows what reason) the bare minimum I believe you should be able to expect is a friendly storefront person who will pick up the phone and take 5 seconds to answer a simple question. I tried so hard to love this place and their beyond breakfast sandwich is incredible - but jumping through hoop after hoop and being treated rudely while doing so, just to order a sandwich, is ridiculous. I have the most negative opinion of Littleneck Outpost out of every single breakfast place in NYC I've ever been to, based on how I've been treated when trying to patron this restaurant.

Yelp

Yelp
As a Greenpoint resident, I'm thrilled to no longer have to travel to Gowanus for the best lobster roll in NYC, at the Littleneck Outpost's parent location. Which, believe me, is always worth the trip. Out of curiosity, I went for the spicy shrimp roll this time which was just as outstanding. There's something about the rolls they choose, really delicate and fresh with a hint of buttery flavor, just barely toasted to give the texture a nice crispy edge. Truly the best. This beautifully crafted boutique sandwich shop offers a charming New England atmosphere with nautical touches to relax by the bay windows and enjoy the elegant, peaceful vibe of the place while you eat. There are delicious artisinal snacks as well, and a well arrayed choice of drinks. The staff was cool and attentive, the crowd was stylish and well composed. I recently discovered they have a breakfast menu as well which sounds outstanding. So I'll definitely be checking that out. I love the food here, and it's a great neighborhood hang out spot. It's also an excellent value for the top quality seafood that they offer. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Eh. I've been to Littleneck Outpost for coffee a few times, and it's usually underwhelming and bland. And today was the first time I stayed for lunch also. Had a braised beef sandwich and a crab roll. The crab roll was decent, and I enjoyed the avocado twist. I likely won't be back for it though, especially with Lobster Joint just a few blocks away and is way better. The braised beef sandwich was disappointing. It just wasn't well braised or marinated or spiced. Beyond that, everything just seemed way overpriced. $50 for lunch isn't cool. Cute place, but oh well.
google avatar

Shelby V.

Yelp
I like this place. When I started working around here I wanted to find the best coffee in town. Definitely tied for number 1. The wait time is the only issue- one guy in the kitchen is tough when a Postmates order for a whole office comes to their door- only time to walk away. But get the food. All of it. Breakfast and lunch. Yum.
google avatar

Victoria O.

Yelp
This is the cutest best little place near the Brooklyn Expo. Cape Cod meets Brooklyn. The scrambled eggs with some chili and avocado (added after the eggs place on the artisan role, so not hot) was out of this world. And like 8 or 9. They have lobster rolls and more expensive sandwiches. But they also have lots of breakfast stuff for a reasonable price. Coffee terrific. They sell books, t-shirts, and other little gifts. The girl is a bit stuffy (cashier). But I was delighted to find this because there weren't too many options in this area. I'd go here all the time if I lived in Williamsburg, even if I were closer to Bedford. Also they sell that cucumber soda water in a can (I don't know the brand, but I don't see it in NY much). And they have expensive, delicious, high-protein, low sugar yogurts. I forget the brand (not Siggi's though they sell that too). But one was elderflower. Yum.
google avatar

Isabel U.

Yelp
Two words: Avocado Toast ...and the coffee is the best and cheapest in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
This place gets 2 stars for presentation & atmosphere but the food is so, so, so bland. I've given it a few chances but sadly will not be returning. I wish they would use some of that Old Bay seasoning in the lobster roll because it desperately needs some flavor. The guy at the register was a bit of a space cadet too. The cheese danish was stale as well. They are way overpriced too.
google avatar

Sierra L.

Yelp
So so yummy! I always get the chickpea sandwich and they never disappoint. They're super quick too so if you call in, the wait is like 10 min
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwiches in the neighborhood. Cute interior, lots of light for relaxing. Not the best place for working, but a solid choice for a coffee date.
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Honestly the best coffee in greenpoint. I always get their iced oat milk latte. The guy at the front is so nice. I also love their bread and their aioli sauces. Yum
google avatar

Kiki R.

Yelp
We try 5 breakfast sandwiches. None of them worth the price. 10$ for a deli quality tuna salad. 13$ for short ribs that taste like boiled chewed meat. 12$ for tasteless salmon smothered in cream cheese 22$ for the worst lobster salad I had in a long time 8$ for the most bland ham and egg sandwich. Really one egg and a slice of ham, 8$?! Except for the lobster roll which came with few sad chips the other sandwiches came alone, there sitting in the plate looking all sad and is not even they are that bad, they just totally lack flavor and for that price tag you should want something much better in your plate.

Debbie P.

Yelp
I've gone to Littleneck Outpost a few more times and have to say my opinion hasn't really changed. I still think the food is great albeit pretty expensive but the last time I went, the cashier kept scratching himself and picking at his ear before making my coffee. Safe to say I will not be returning!
