I went there on a weekday during lunchtime, and the line was already quite long. The restaurant itself isn’t spacious, old, and the seating is a bit tight, but it did earn a Michelin star in 2018 and 2019. I ordered the Braised Beef Noodle Soup. The beef was flavorful, and nicely tender. The noodles were chewy and generous. The broth had a solid beef flavor but wasn’t overly heavy on the Chinese spices that are sometimes used in this type of dish, so it felt more suited to foreign tastes. I also tried the Marinated Bean Curd , but I found it overly salty and not particularly flavorful. On the table, they provide vegetable, fermented soybean, chili oil, and a chili-based seasoning. These helped add some spice and depth, especially since the noodles are quite thick and can taste a bit bland on their own. I think adding a little of the fermented soybean works well when eating the noodles without the beef or broth. The service was good, although the food took a bit of time to served. The place was busy and packed, so I couldn’t stay too long with the constant flow of people waiting outside.

A very famous Taiwanese beef noodle was hiding in the back street. If you want to go there, prepare to wait for a long queue for 30 mins as a lot of people are hoping for this popular noodle. I would say the beef and the broth are my type but I also would not eat another bowl as it was too big.

You can smell the rich broth the moment you approach this old timey stall in the tiny alleyway~ We ordered both the “clear” and “braised” beef noodles. I actually liked the clear broth better, but the braised beef was more flavourful. They are served in large portions, so for us three ladies, we wished we had ordered two bowls to share instead. We arrived when it happened to be raining heavily at about 4.30pm, so we were served a table instantly in the otherwise full dining area. By the time we were slurping up our noodles at 5pm (the rain had lightened up around this time), there was a long queue of 15 people in line. You can order extra side dishes at the restaurant but they ran out of everything except boiled peanuts by the time we arrived — so come earlier (perhaps for lunch) on weekends if you’d like to order something other than beef noodles!

Google
Tucked away in small lanes, this small noodle house oozes really old school style charms. They can seat less than 25 at max capacity but the queues moves quickly. The insides are fully air-conditioned and is comfortable even in summer. We all prefer the braised version and that's what we ordered. The beef was really tender and the soup was delightful to our family's tastes buds. Will definitely return.

Google
Liushandong Beef Noodle offers a delicious and authentic Taiwanese beef noodle experience. The beef is tender, and the broth is rich, flavorful, and comforting. The noodles have the perfect texture, not too soft or too chewy. The restaurant's cozy atmosphere and friendly service make it a great spot for casual dining. It's a must-try for anyone craving a traditional Taiwanese beef noodle dish. Highly recommended for both locals and tourists!

Google
We waited about 40 mins in line. Its better than average, which is always a plus. Small restaurant . Depending on table might have to share . I'd definitely give them a shot again if the wait wasn't so crazy. Maybe try going at an off-peak time. Takes about 10 15 mins after ordered to get food

Google
Located in alley way. Very popular. Queuing. We got there around 10.20am on a Monday and there was a queue of about 10 people ahead of us. We waited 20 mins before getting a table. Beef noodle is good. Share tables. Cramped seating. Relatively small restuarant

Google
First meal on my trip to Taipei! I was expecting it to be amazing but there was a long line and the shop is so hot, squished, and full of flies. The beef noodles were average, it didn't wow me... May have been due to the long wait or the eating environment not being ideal. The staff were super nice though!

Yelp
the beef noodle soups were worth the hype and wait; wish there was more meat for the amount of noodles and price, but the red braised beef and pure braised beef were very tender (the red braised beef was more flavorful in my opinion). the broth was delicious too, and the green onions were really fresh

Yelp
HUGE Portions! Food was delicious. Share if you can. We came at the time of opening and it was already a full house. Fresh mustard greens in the morning and you can put as much as you want in your noodle soup. We ate this for breakfast and it filled us up until later afternoon around 2-3PM.

Yelp
This spot was really hard to find, it's tucked away in the corner of the basement in an unassuming building. We walked around the basement twice before asking someone if they knew where it was. We came around 4pm and it was really full inside but there was no wait. We shared a large braised noodle and a plate of dumplings. They have a self serve area where you can grab pickled vegetables, chili oil, sesame sauce, etc. The broth here was on the lighter side while the noodles were the hand pulled knife cut type. I wish they added more protein to the large size because it looked to be the exact same amount of meat as the normal size. The cucumber salad was refreshing and very garlicky!

Yelp
We got there just in time so we didn't have to wait. We ordered 2 different types of beef noodle soup. It came quickly. The beef was very dry and chewy. The soup lacked flavour. Wouldn't return to this restaurant.

Yelp
Solid beef noodle soup with thicker, round noodles that have a great texture. The beef is very tender, and each table has a big bowl of pickled mustard greens to customize your soup. Located in a narrow alleyway in a busy part of Taipei, it's a popular spot worth visiting!
google avatar

Yelp
This was a hole in the wall Beef noodle place with a line out the door that moved quite fast. Definitely no frills. We ended up waiting for about 30 minutes. We shared the cucumber salad which was very refreshing with a huge amount of garlic. I was sad that it came in such a small portion size. The beef noodle soup was nothing special. The noodles were not soft or bouncy and lacked any flavor. I don't think it was better than the prepackaged noodles you get at your local Asian supermarket. The beef and broth were good. But I've definitely have had better beef noodle soups in NYC. In fact, I've made some really good spicy beef noodle soup myself before. Not a bad option for a cheap lunch but not sure why it's gotten so popular.

Yelp
Prior to trying out Liu Shandong, we had tasted 4 other beef noodle soup in Taipei in a short span of 2 days. However, we couldn't really leave without trying out the most popular Michelin recommended Liu Shandong so we waited in line on a Wednesday afternoon (~5:15pm). They took our order and payment when we were second in line prior to seating us. The restaurant was booked frills and crowded with shared tables & condiments - typical of other small establishments in Taipei. The 15 minute wait was shorter than expected. It took roughly 7 minutes to get our orders. The orders were served at the right temperature and portion size for the noodle soup was decent for one hungry adult. The side order of only beef is quite small so I'd recommend to just order a full bowl of noodle soup given the price, if you can still eat more. The clear beef broth was rich and flavorful - best out of the 5 places we tried. The beef slices were tender but not as fatty as we like. The soy sauce beef was a bit salty so we recommend just getting the pure beef one. We preferred Yong Kang's beef texture and flavor. The noodles is where we were super disappointed- the shape, texture and taste is like a tougher al dente udon missing the qq chewy texture. It was our least favorite noodles in our trip. Overall, I still recommend trying it out to expand your culinary experience for beef noodles soup in Taipei but I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in a little alley. It's pretty well known in the area for their beef noodles. Service is excellent. Our waiter even speaks English. The noodle soups are so good & flavorful. They get both local & foreign customers. My experience there is good. I wish they would blast the AC since it was so hot in the summer.

Yelp
Everyone has their personal preference on a delicious bowl of beef noodle soup, and in my opinion, this one was okay-- the broth was tasty, the meat was okay, and the noodles were not good at all for me. (And of course, the ambiance and wait time are less than desired, but you come here expecting that!) The broth itself comes in "light" (lighter colored soup) and "braised" (more traditional dark colored soup. Although not at the top of my list, the broth was tasty, savory, and just a tad of that medicinal/Chinese herb flavor. A little on the oily side. The meat pieces were small but tender, not much flavor to the meat itself. The noodles were way too soft-- there was zero bite to the noodle (not QQ), pretty disappointing. Overall, fine but not getting again. My parents enjoyed the bowl though, saying it was very good-- so everyone has different tastes! I also tried the Zha Jiang Miao (meat sauce noodles), which were pretty lousy. The meat sauce tasted only like salt and for some reason tasted like tuna fish. Again, the noodles made me sad. My parents said they shouldn't be selling this dish. The pickled veggies / Taiwanese kimchi side dish was a little too raw and bland (maybe not soaked long enough), and the tofu noodles were okay but not much flavor. Overall for the price, taste, and sad sad noodles, 2.5 stars. Probably mostly tourists here, but my Taiwanese cousins had strongly recommended trying them out too. The wait was about 40 min on a Friday morning around 10:30 am, and be prepared to share tables with others!

Yelp
Great food! Friendly service. Very small place, fills up quickly. There's usually a line but it moves quickly. We all ordered their most popular beef soup, cucumber salad, tofu, and pork chops. I'd definitely eat here again

Yelp
I am visiting Taiwan for the first time in 35 years after moving to the US, and this is one of the beef noodle shops that has received great reviews. This is one of the food items on my list to revisit, and I'm glad my brother and my parents decided to take me to this place. The soup was so flavorful and the beef was perfectly braised. You can add the preserved vegetable to change the flavor profile, which I did. The preserved vegetable added an acidic umami that cut through the savory broth. They also recommended chewing on some fermented black beans to change the flavor profile as well, which I also tried. Chew the black beans 3 times, then chew a piece of the beef 3 times, and then sip the broth. Everything was so good. This is a small, hole-in-the-wall place that has a great review. We waited in line for almost 30 minutes but it was worth it. The service was pretty good and they brought the soups and the side dishes that we ordered within 2 minutes after we were seated (they get your order while waiting and they put them in as they are directing you to your table). Have I had better beef noodle soup? Sure. Is this worth it. I'd say so, but it depends. I'm here for the first time in 35 years (my parents and siblings have all been back several times without me) and everything is worth it to me. If I visit Taiwan again, I will definitely stop by this noodle shop again.

Yelp
Another quintessential beef noodle spot to try if you ever visit Taipei, Taiwan. This place is located near Taipei Main Station and in the middle of an alley. The dining area is pretty small so don't be surprised if you end up sharing tables with other customers when you visit. We decided to drop by around the time they opened (at 8 am) because the lines can get pretty long throughout the day. I'm sure glad we did because we got the last two seats available. We ordered their Braised Beef Noodle Soup, a side of bean curd strips, and a side of boiled peanuts. I don't care what other people say about their broth, I thought it was delicious. Typically, a braised beef noodle broth would have a heavier soy sauce flavor profile. Their broth, on the other hand, had a lighter flavor which in my opinion allowed more of the natural beefy flavors to come through, which I appreciated. Most places would typically use a thinner noodle however they use a thicker "udon"-like noodle which had a chewier bite, which I enjoyed. The beef was tender and flavorful. Our side dishes were a delightful accompaniment to our noodles. Definitely checking out if you are in the area. Service was fast and casual. Cash only.

Yelp
We were recommended this spot by our Airbnb host as some of the best beef noodle soup in Taiwan! It was a very short walk, and when we arrived there was already quite a long line outside. However, we only had to wait about 10 minutes before getting seated. We all got the braised beef noodle soup, and also shared the shredded tofu appetizer. The noodles came out soon after, and the bowl was MASSIVE. It was filled with the thick, chewy noodles which I love and plenty of beef on top. The beef was tender and cooked so perfectly, and also had great flavor! I loved how they gave a whole mountain of green onions too. The perfect bite for me consisted of a bit of soup, noodles, some of the fermented beans, and a tiny bit of chili. Such a comforting and filling meal!

Yelp
This spot is well known for the Braised Beef Noodle Soup. Ended up having breakfast here twice during my visit to Taipei. We came early around 8AM to avoid the wait both times. There was a queue when we finished and left both times. Beef was prepared well, the broth is super rich. As good as you would expect it to be.

Brianne C.

Yelp
Stopped into Liu Shandong Beef Noodle as it was very close to our hotel. The line went pretty quickly, everyone seems to eat and leave which moves things along nicely. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup which only had one size option (and it was pretty large, too big for me) but I gave it my all. I will just say, I really mis beef noodle soup now that I'm back home. The soup was so rich and the noodles extra chewy. So many scallions! I could eat this soup every day. The meat was good, smaller pieces then previous shops, but it soaked in the flavor beautifully. All in all, it is definitely worth a try, but we felt another shop had a little more depth of flavor and more tender beef.
google avatar

Kristine Y.

Yelp
Expect to wait and perhaps even share a table but it's worth both in this area! This restaurant is literally a hole in the wall in an alley off the street. The noodles are udon style and the broth is rich and yummy! The food come out fast and hot.
google avatar

Shirley C.

Yelp
Food is inexpensive and amazing. The venue needs a bit updated! No ambiance at all. If is like quick meal with great food.

Joseph H.

Yelp
Our family got the pure braised beef noodles and the braised beef noodles. Both of these noodle soups were amazing. To elevate the flavor of the dish you should consider adding the pickled vegetables/ 酸菜 as well as the chili oil. The restaurant itself is hidden away in an alley. The seating is quite tight and there isn't a lot of room. We waited outside for about 10 minutes but the line moved quite fast. I suggest to go as a group of less than 5 because the tables are small and crammed together. Overall this place was an amazing experience and the food was just as amazing.

Yelp
Very good. Best beef noodle so far in Tapei. Ask the security guard for the location, if you cannot read Chinese. LOL.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the bedrock beef noodle establishments. It had a line but it was long and over in five minutes. I needed Wi-Fi to leave here. Uber ride. They claimed they didn't have any. I made a small stink and they produced the password. All is forgiven! Large happy staff. Outstanding Beef Noodle Soup.

Yelp
So , this is the famous beef noodle place that the YouTubers and review recommend . We came here in around 11:50 AM and it was packed and the line was around 2 streets . They move the pretty fast and was quickly seated after 40 minutes . 2 of us shared a table with another couple . We tried the traditional beef noodle soup . And a plate of tofu strings. 170 NT per bowl + 30 NT for the side dish. The beef noodle soup base taste good , beef was tender and good , noodle was on the thick side ( I did see others ask for thinner noodle). The preserved veggie was not sour enough and I didn't like it as much in my noodle soup than the preserved veggie from other establishment . Over all , it was just ok, and I will not line up for this , it's not worth the wait . I had better. Maybe I was expecting it to mind blowing but it did not live up to all the hype . Mark off my list , onward to next . Btw this would consider a hole in a hole in the hole in the wall. Did I mention a hole in the wall?

Yelp
Great soup best for breakfast! It's a Michelin rated 2018 2019 2020 , get the Hongshao beef noodle
google avatar

Krysten I.

Yelp
I really like this place because it opens early and I can get noodles for breakfast!! Yum! The first time I came here a few months ago, there was a wait to get in. There are only a handful of tables squeezed together and tables, even 4 tops were commonly shared by multiple parties. This time I went, in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, there was no line and we did not have to share a table because there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant. The beef noodle soup is the popular thing to get here. It's delicious. The broth is flavorful and there are several pieces of beef. I also tried the pork chop soup noodle with pork broth and it was tasty as well. The noodles are thick, like udon, and you can top your noodle soup with mustard greens and chili sauce. The walls are covered in menus, pictures of celebrities who have dined here and Michelin stickers. There isnt much in terms of service and you pay for your food when it comes out, not after you have finished dining. They do kind of rush you out, especially before, when the restaurant was packed.

Yelp
My kids were hankering noodles so we found this popular local spot on Yelp. It's located in a small side street that resembled an alleyway, but we were encouraged by the long line of locals. Definitely not a place for folks who prioritize ambience, but the service was efficient and the food was delicious. We were seated relatively quickly, but had to initially split our group and share tables because the restaurant was so busy. However, table mates for one of our groups finished and we were soon sitting together again. The menu is simple and we had 2 orders each of their original beef noodles and pork chop noodles. The broth was flavorful and just the perfect temperature. The noodles were a thicker style that was soft had a nice chewy texture. The pork chops were nicely marinated and had a tasty ginger flavor. Portions were generous and we left happy with full bellies.

Yelp
Ok this place is super good. It comes out piping hot, The meat is small and bit sized and super tender, not mushy soft but flavorful and easy to eat. Overall top spot for us this time and had to go back for seconds a few times

Yelp
Worth the short wait when we vacation !!Its was simple yet so delicious and comfy ! Large portion and so affordable , love the green mustard garnished , garlic and vinegar !!Beef noodles just don't taste the same here in US

Yelp
If you are looking for light soup base then this is the place. Beef is tender. Will come back again.

Yelp
You will be surprised. This is a Michelin Star restaurant located in the back alley. I am not joking. The outside and inside looks very dirty. There is a lady outside washing the dishes and that looks weird. Everything is so run down and old. But this restaurant has really good broth soup. It is definitely a must try. There is a long line up of people when we arrived at the restaurant. Like all good things in Taipei, there is always a lineup. We were seated at a tiny table shared with two other people. We ordered the Braised beef noodle soup. The beef was super tender. The broth was delicious. I like how the restaurant has a menu with English translation and pictures. The noodle soup costed about $150 NTW for each bowl but it was definitely worth it. Overall, the food was delicious and I highly recommend visiting this place.
google avatar

Jenny Y.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by how old and dirty this place may look. Probably one of the best beef noodles I've had in Taipei. A lot of other beef noodles restaurant serves oily broth. Whereas this place has a clean, strong yet not overwhelming taste of beef. The noodles also come to you scorching hot, very fresh. They are closed on Sundays and expect this place to be packed. You pay when you get your food. Located in a small, hidden alley. Definitely a hidden gem. If you're ever near the Taipei Main Station, give it a try!
google avatar

Rod M.

Yelp
Wow!! This is a true hole in the wall spot. Located down a little alleyway, so unless you know the spot you're unlikely to come across it. However, if you do turn down the alley you'll like find a group of people lined up waiting to her a seat at this little noodle shop. On your table you'll find a few containers filled with garlic, mustard greens and chilli sauce waiting to be added to the noodles that you are about to order. The menu is pretty straightforward, they serve noodles and it seems that the beef noodles are the most popular dish. Your noodles will be served in a metal bowl in a wonderful soupy broth. Don't forget to pile on those toppings. It is all so simple yet so amazingly tasty. There is something to be said for an establishment that focuses on one thing and does it so well. Clearly the restaurant has been here serving noodles for decades and they certainly know what they are doing. This is a must go spot for any visit to Taipei.

george k.

Yelp
Great bowl of beef noodles. You can get a couple different variants but the broth has an old school cooked for days flavor. Don't forget to load up on the self serve side dishes and sauce station.
google avatar

Yelp
Not having Beef Noodle Soup in Taiwan is like missing out on Buffalo Wings in Buffalo and this Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand recipient for 2018 is not fucking around! We waited in line for 30 minutes with the server even taking our order while in it. The food was brought out almost immediately after being seated, and I dove into Liu Shandong's $5 beef noodle soup with dark broth ASAP. Not only is the broth full of comfort and magic, but the chewy udon-style noodles and big, tender, juicy chunks of beef were total bliss! Delicious!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
A hole in the wall spot + Michelin star restaurant that's located in a little alley. Hands down my fav beef noodle place in Taipei. This place is authentic and homey and it has been here for decades serving amazing beef noodle soup. I took a taxi to get there and my taxi driver (who's in his 50s) told me this is the best beef noodle place in Taipei (and I couldn't agree more). I always order the beef noddle (clear broth version) and you will find garlic, mustard greens and chili sauce on the table for you to add to the noddles if you want. This place is super busy- lots of dine in customers and to go orders. It's a simple meal yet so so so delicious. Already looking forward to my next visit here in Taiwan.
google avatar

Sonia S.

Yelp
Super great place to check out! Amazing hand-cut noodles with great flavor from the beef. Definitely would recommend ordering the 牛肉麵 for 150 NTD. Well worth the price and will definitely be visiting again when I head back to Taiwan! The place is small, so be prepared to wait in line. I'd recommend getting there on off-hours.
google avatar

Yelp
Liu Shandong is a small, authentic shop was featured on the Michelin Guide, most notably for their Beef Noodle Soup. When I was in Taipei, I made a note to try out their soup! This place is very busy - I came here during what's considered a "late lunch" and it was still packed. However, you may end up having to share a 4-person table if you come as a party of 2 (which I ended up having to do). The noodles overall were very thick - almost udon-like. The beef here was also super tender as well. As for the broth, it was VERY clean. To add some additional flavor, they do have a variety of seasoning on the table to choose from. My favorite seasoning was the homemade green one - which I think was some type of garlic? Either way, that made the soup taste SO good.
google avatar

Steph C.

Yelp
Hello travelers! This place is open at 8am and is thus one of your best bets for your redeye hunger. Plus, it's the best broth I've ever had in maybe my whole life. The noodles are flour - almost like udon, but not as springy. Interesting quirk: you pay when the food comes, like the bowl is steaming in front of you and you're losing your mind and then they ask you to pay first. So maybe get a head start and pay when you order so there's no speed bump to your food!
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
This was the best beef noodle soup that I had in Taipei. Simply amazing and great value. It's not the cleanest/fanciest place but definitely a hidden gem. We got the dark broth beef noodle soup. The noodles were similar to udon with a good amount of beef. The beef was very tender.
google avatar

Yelp
Probably one of the highlights of my taipei food trip. They serve heaping bowls of the Taiwan staple, Beef Noodles. What sets them apart from the countless beef noodle joints is that they use beef breast instead of the usual beef tendon. For NT$150, you get a large bowl of thick noodles topped with generous strips of beef and fresh scallions and a flavorful beef bone soup base that gives an intense meat flavor and herbal aroma. No wonder they have a Bib Gourmand from MICHELIN. They also have a few condiments to enhance your soup such as chili paste, chili flakes, chili oil, garlic cloves, and pickled mustard greens. If you don't know Mandarin (like me) but you're planning to eat there, it's better to do some research and decide beforehand what you want to order. Although they have an English menu, the lady manning the waiting line will give you a very brief time to decide before she leads you to some vacant seats and quickly takes your order. Also, payment is done by the time they serve you the food. As for the queue, we went there at around 1PM on a weekday and the turnover was pretty fast. If you're not a heavy eater or you're just going there for some tasting sesh, it's better to share a bowl between 2-4 people. We kinda underestimated the bowl and got one each .

Yelp
A little background: Opened in 1951. Won several competitions for taiwanese beef noodle soup, at least one of the competition was international. Famous people come here to eat including Taiwan's last president. You know a place is good when it's small and in it's original state. It's down a small alley and a little hard to find but it's definitely the busiest restaurant there. We went for a late lunch at 3pm and there were still people coming and going. We ordered two beef noodle soups and one jajang mien. None of their bowls are spicy or salty so you have to add all the sauces on the side which is nice because people can adjust to their tastings. My mom appreciated the broth but as Americans, my sister and I added a lot of sauce and chili oil. The jajiang mien wasn't really jajiang mien but ground pork noodles. I added a lot of chili oil and black beans to make it taste right. In the end everything tasted delicious and just right! The food for the three of us was $15 USD :)

Yelp
This noodle place really reads like a neighborhood establishment. When stepping into the alley it definitely felt like tour groups would not be stopping by. Only about 10 seats in the entire place. We ordered from a nice English menu a bowl of pure beef noodle soup and beef noodle soup. The only difference appeared to be the cut of beef slightly was leaner in the pure beef. The salty pickled mustard greens balanced the slightly sweet soup. The chewy udon like noodles were amazing. For me one of the best beef noodle soups I've ever had . They also had pork chop noodle soup and some side dishes i would like to try.
google avatar

Yelp
Place is super busy all the time. The noodles are the thicker kind which is pretty good. The soup is very flavorful and they give you a decent amount of meat and pickled mustard greens. Priced pretty well too. Would recommend.

Yelp
Feel like just normal beef noodle with higher price. Not bad but just soso. There must be better choices around this area. I left some noodles in the end since the beef is okay but noodles are just fine.

I am quite impressed. My brother recommended this place it is located in an alley. We went in the morning, no line. From order til serve do take 15 mins+ Broth are tasty. I love scallions. Beef are so soft. Pickle vegetable on the table taste great too. The pork chop is one of the famous item. It is good but I just don't find it very special. Will go again for the beef noodles!

Yelp
One of my favorite bowls of beef noodle soup in town. Get the clear broth beef noodle soup for sure. It has one of the richest, deepest beef broths I've tasted in Taipei (it's almost like using pho stock to make beef noodle soup). The noodles are al dente and extremely thick and chewy, like udon. Setting-wise: be forewarned that it's sort of dirty and impossible to find, and at all hours it's mobbed by old people and nearby businessmen coming for lunch, but take all these as signs that it's a bona fide local gem ;). Last I checked, they were closed on.... I think Sunday or Monday? Be careful of this.

Yelp
A friend of mine from Taipei told me this was his favorite beef noodle shop, and when he heard I was moving there, told me I had to try it, but warned me it was not one of those "fancy" places. So I dragged a couple of friends to find it. It's located in an alley. First of all, I was really impressed by the lady who works there. My three friends had barely turned the corner and had just inched past the (bustling) shop, and we weren't even totally sure this was the place, and she shouted out, "三位!這裏有位子!" and we were shown a seat. Yeah, for visitors who feel squeamish about more "local" type places, it's not necessarily super sanitary looking or whatever, but I tend not to care about those type of things since I think if a place has a lot of people, you can't really go too wrong. And often times these places have the best food. Anyway we all got the same -- the darker broth beef noodle soup (they do have a lighter option but I like the more heavily braised version in general). It was SO GOOD. So flavorful. The noodles were more like udon noodles, and just a TAD overcooked (I like a chewier noodle) but besides that, it was really wonderful. Deep, rich flavor, meat that was cooked to tender perfection. I did add a bit of chili sauce bc I wanted it to be spicier, but we ate quickly and felt very satisfied. At 140 NT, it's a pretty great deal, esp compared to the overpricedness of Yong Kang Beef Noodle Soup (which I'll review at some point, separately).

Yelp
Took my parents to Taiwan for the first time and had our first breakfast there. The beef noodle really impressed us and we went back again before we left Taiwan.

Yelp
劉山東牛肉麵 Liu Shandong beef noodle soup more of the lighter broth with the udon like noodle and good beef, demonstrates the depth and variety of beef noodle soup in Taipei. just like the breadth of ramen in Tokyo. I think I lean towards Tao-Yuan Street shops.
