Liza

"Originally from Beirut, Liza Asseily gives pride of place to her country’s cuisine. In a contemporary interior dotted with Middle Eastern touches, opt for the shish taouk or mechoui kafta (lamb, hummus and tomato preserves). Dishes are meticulously prepared using fresh ingredients. A real treat!" - Michelin Inspector

27 Best Restaurants in Paris, According to Locals | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Lebanese diaspora in Paris is well-documented, and while there are a plethora of casual Lebanese restaurants, few are as well-known, and as stylish, as Liza. Don't be surprised to dine alongside Lebanese visitors, or locals with Lebanese heritage: It's a veritable destination that draws big groups—its spacious; something of a rarity in Paris. Pair Lebanese wines and arak or homemade orange blossom lemonade with the mezze. Think black-lemon labneh, codfish hummus, and riz au lait (rice pudding) developed with the help of L'Ami Jean chef Stéphane Jego. Everything is meant to be shared, so go for the mixed plates if you can't decide. Don't leave without trying the grilled halloumi, served with sesame-coated tomato jam." - Sara Lieberman, Lindsey Tramuta

Liza - Review - 2nd Arr. - Paris - The Infatuation

"Whether or not you catch the energetic Liza Asseily hanging around her 17-year-old Lebanese restaurant, be prepared to eat a lot because just about everything on the menu is worth prioritizing. You’ll see classics like perfectly crisp falafel and beef kébbé (served with the most addicting tabboulé chimichurri sauce), along with more creative flourishes - like adding black citron and hazelnuts to labneh and sweet tomato marmalade alongside grilled halloumi. Under no circumstances can you skip the riz au lait with orange caramel and rose petals for dessert, and to help you get over feeling a little fuller than you might like, order a café blanc (“white coffee″), aka hot water and raw fleur d’oranger made in a French press." - Sara Lieberman

A true gem that delivers authenticity, flavor, and heart. Whether you’re a Lebanese food aficionado or a first-timer, this place is not to be missed. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with warm hospitality and the rich, spicy aroma of traditional dishes being lovingly prepared. Please do not miss the dessert ! The best ever!

The mezze was pretty good but the meat was only okay. The atmosphere of the resto was nice. Service was friendly. Probably a good place for a group meal.

This review is mainly for the food! The restaurant has a cool atmosphere and great service, however way too expensive for the quality of the product. Most importantly, if you are craving traditional lebanese food this won’t hit the spot. I got the hummus, which was very silky but lacked flavor. The fattoush which was awesome, probably my favorite. The beef kibbeh which I didn’t like because it came with a sweet basil sauce that I just didn’t understand. For the main we got the mixed grilled plate: chicken was nice and juicy, kebabs were flavorful but a bit dry. The star was the garlic sauce. So overall decent food, but extremely overpriced. I wish their flavors were more traditional.

Google
Absolutely incredible meal! The tasting menu had a wide range of food and were all phenomenal. We left absolutely stuffed. The wine pairing suggestion was also quite good. Possibly the best meal I’ve had all year.

Google
Very disappointing, overpriced for the quality of the food and service. We were really looking forward to this meal, but it turned out to be a big letdown. The chicken was extremely overcooked—dry and hard to eat. The staff never mentioned that every dish already came with potatoes, so we ended up with a full table of extra potatoes and we ordered potatoes that we didn’t need. It was boiling hot inside—no fan, no AC, no windows or doors open during the Paris heatwave. To make things worse, they had candles lit at every table, which, while romantic, just made the heat worse. The tables are way too small. My chair was practically touching the one behind me, and there was no room for the shared dishes. It felt cramped and uncomfortable. At the end, they asked us to leave a tip—something that’s not customary here. Every waiter was extremely rushed. I’ve had better fast-food Lebanese in Paris for a quarter of the price.

Wow is this place busy. Highly recommend reservations although we didn’t have any and they seated us as we had arrived just at open (7PM) but a few walked in later and were told the wait times may be a bit long. The service we experienced was a little slow but the food made up for it. We ordered a few mezze dishes including the labne, arayus and the kibbeh (fried) and they were all tasty and well spiced. Mixed grill and the beef grill came out shortly after with some french fries and everything was juicy and delightful and not overcooked. Ambiance was nice and relaxed. Highly recommended. Make reservations. You’ll enjoy it.

Yelp
We absolutely loved our meal at Liza. We had the buffet service and everything was authentic and so well made. It's not my must have meal when in Paris.

Yelp
The food is upscale Lebanese with a twist. It has a cool atmosphere and great service, however way too expensive for the quality of the product. Yelp
Such a beautiful and romantic setting with food like my Lebanese grandmother! Perfect kibbee naya, authentic bread, crunchy fatoush salad, perfectly spiced and juicy grilled chicken. Warm, caring, genuine service. We did not have cash for our taxi and the driver did not take credit cards, so the manager rushed outside and to the scene - he covered our fare! Who does that? This hidden gem is worth every cent. If you want a true taste of Lebanon from their table and hearts to yours, visit Liza!

Yelp
I've been going to Liza on annual visits to Paris since about 2011 and have found the quality of the food to have grown better over the years. Yelp has been sleeping on Liza since I noticed there weren't many recent reviews. Last week I had my typical order which is various mezze and a couple meat entrees. The presentation of the food looks great and the taste is even better to give me a satisfying Lebanese meal that I've only had equal in Beirut or Dubai. Service can be a bit spotty but that goes for about anywhere in Paris. The environment can be a little casual so also good for well behaved little kids, my toddler has been a few times and we ask to sit on a seat with a padded bench for her rather than a chair.

Yelp
This was a wonderful dining experience. My kids enjoyed the entire experience and we were pleased with our meal and wine. The wait staff was attentive and courteous. We had falafel and a vegetarian dish with traditional accompaniments (hummus, babaganoush, etc). We devoured every bit.

Yelp
I had Liza for a professional lunch, and I was so impressed. The restaurant has two spots next to one another, one is a sit down more formal restaurant, and one is a 'fast casual' section with products to go. The menu has a large varieties of manoushé and Lebanese sandwiches. I went with the classic zataar manoushé, and it was divine. The sandwiches were made quickly and carefully and were a great deal (around 5-6 euros per manoushé, and were quite big). On the side, I had a date juice and for dessert a crème de fleur d'oranger... basically orange goodness pudding. They had many appetizer sides and Lebanese classics like lebneh and taboulé. With some flatbread it's heaven. It was very busy as it was a week day at lunch time, but I was impressed with the smiling staff and their ability to still serve the food quickly. I plan to go back and try every sandwich since I miss Beirut so much.

Yelp
Some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. Go!!! I had the mixed meat kabob. Also the cocktails are great too!

Very good Libanese restaurant! The have an extensive tasting menu but also a lot of choice in separate dishes. The taste of every dish is very flavoured and according to Libanese standards very authentic. Good experience, Nice people, good Food!

Yelp
Paris has such a wide selection of restaurants offering libanese food and I hav tried a few, but this place is still my favorite - when I lived in Paris and when I return I always go here for dinner. Make sure to make a reservation. Personally I think I have tried everything on the menu, I also go with a few people and we order a lot, all the portions are served as small sharing dishes. All of them amazing, can´t chose which ones I like the best. What I in addition enjoys about this place, is the non existing tourist - it´s kind of a hidden gem away from the big streets. It is also the best service I have ever gotten in Paris, and yes that is a rare thing and the waiters speak perfectly english, so I don´t have to speak my very bad french. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is very cosy and white, not typical Lebanese. The prices are a bit high but I think the food is worth every penny.

Yelp
I have been going to Restaurant Liza for over five years and it has become my second kitchen. When in town, I go at least every two weeks, often more! The refined Lebanese food is delicious and the menu provides plenty of options for vegetarians, carnivores, picky eaters and everyone in between. The fixed price lunch 'plateaux' are an excellent deal for a working lunch. The dinner menu is more elaborate, and one needs to be careful not to over-order as the quantities are generous. My all time favorite mezzedes include spinach with onions, artichokes with peas, the Fattouch salad but all of the options are tasty and made of high quality ingredients. All meat and fish main course dishes are excellent and daily specials keep things particularly interesting. The grillade is exceptional as well. Brunch is served buffet-style with a nice, colorful presentation and special traditional Lebanese dishes that are not served during the week. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, fresh and modern. The service is efficient and friendly without every lacking in professionalism. Reservations highly recommended!

Yelp
I read a lot about this place and how good it was. It NOT. I had the worst falafel I have ever had. It cute enough with nice lights and decor. But it's a restaurant so the food should be good not horrible. My mom and I got the veg plate, two falafel a salad and a mint tea. The veg plate was 16 € with an lentil and rice salad witch was cold and looked like a blob of mush. The hummus had so much tahini it was hard to eat. The salad was dull. The spinach was slimy and I don't even know what the veg of the day was. The falafel was 9 each for four of them and had too many sesame seeds. What are sesame seeds doing in a falafel anyway? They were also dry and unseasoned. The pita that was served in a plastic bag (no joke) resembled and tasted more like cardboard than bread. The total bill came to 75€ for just two people. I will never return and hope you save your life saving and don't ether.

Yelp
Their sandwiches are not even sandwiches as they're impossible to eat. The meat was okay, but the veggies were so so and the pita not tasty at all. I also got some hummus and babaggannouj, they're simply bad, not comparable to so many other Lebanese restaurants in Paris. A real disappointment.

Yelp
At last there is a modern Lebanese restaurant in Paris. Named after its owner, Liza, this place goes beyond conventions and is very refreshing compared to other old and classic similar venues. The interior is a mix of contemporary and traditional design. The dominant colors are white and turquoise. It is very relaxing. At our arriving we got some "amuse bouche" which were in fact cuncumbers with a yoghurt sauce. We ordered a glass of Kir (white wine and blackberry liqueur) and a glass of Arak which is a kind of Lebanese pastis. Like the French beverage, you have to pour some water in it. We ordered then Baba Ganouch (Grilled eggplant dip with citrus juice and shallots), two portions of Fatayer Djej (Chicken rolls with garlic and Lebanese pickles), Kebbe Nayeh (the Lebanese version of a Steak tartar - this is raw beef with cracked wheat) and Kafta Samak ( Sea-bream tartar with dill and chive). It was a festival of Lebanese mezze dishes. They were light, delicious and creative. As a main course we had a Kharouf Mehche (five spice lamb confit with rice) and a Daoud Bacha (meatballs with rice - in fact, the meat used is mutton mixed with pine kernels and onions). The two dishes were full of delicate spices and were worth every penny. It was so good that we even ordered some ice creams (rose, almond and pistaccio). All this was accompanied by a bottle of Chateau Ksara, reserve du couvent, 2004 (22 euro). We ended this perfect dinner with some mint tea. We had a great experience and I'd really like you to have the same so.... Go to Liza!

Yelp
There are tastier lebanese joints to be found. The place is nice but too expensive for what they put on the plate. Apparently their sunday brunch is a better value.

Yelp
I had lunch with two clients at Liza today Tuesday 12 Jan. The restaurant was quite empty. The staff were helpful and friendly. I ordered and the quality of the food was good but not particularly inspired or inventive, quite traditional Lebanese food which, given the modern styling of the physical space, was quite a surprise. The starters I ordered arrived but, alas, the main course did not; my French is decent so this was a big disappointment as I am quite sure I ordered it. As a result, I have rated it two stars.

Aasiya A.

Yelp
Worse value for money. Expensive food and tasteless. Though the staff was pleasant and friendly!
