I will say, I came here for a nightcap and some whiskey (yes, both things), so I did not try the food that everyone is raving about on here. But I can speak to the vibes, drinks and the staff. All superb. If I lived in Philly (I grew up here but I did not come of age here, sadly), I imagine Lloyd would be a frequent haunt of mine. It's warm and low-key, and there happen to be a few TVs if you like your bourbon with a side of NBA. Sit at the bar, feast your eyes on the whiskey selection, stay until closing.
I came here at around 9:30 on a Sunday night with my partner. We were going for one cocktail, but I knew I'd wind up trying some whiskey as well. It seemed that we were both in a banana mood after dinner, as I ordered the
Banana-Walnut Old Fashioned (rittenhouse bonded rye, creme de banane, walnut & angostura bitters, twist) and my partner got the Banana Pisco Sour (pisco, tempus fugit creme de banane, lemon, egg white, angostura bitters). Both featuring that decadent tempus fugit creme de banane, the richer cousin of Giffard's banana liqueur. I tend to like my pisco sours more citrusy, but the banana notes were solid. Definitely a bigger fan of the old fashioned, as those flavors made much more intuitive sense to me.
I did need to try some whiskey, which involved a very long conversation with the bartenders about everything on their menu, because I am a pain like that. I ended up splurging on the Barrell Seagrass Rye (Rum, Madeira, and Apricot Brandy Finish), which I had never heard of prior to this night. It came highly recommended, and for good reason. This is something special, and it's a label on a mission -- part of the proceeds of each bottle purchased go towards marine conservation efforts. So really, I was drinking to heal the planet. Not a bad deal!
Overall, this is a down to earth spot with a great atmosphere and friendly staff, a place you could easily post up at for hours on end, sipping and lounging and chatting.
