The Key Decision in Tuscany

"Seamlessly expanded from its original farmhouse, this stay pairs contemporary interiors with rustic architecture—rooms could pass for modern urban apartments were it not for half‑timbered ceilings and views of the working farm—yet it’s the olive groves, gardens, and pool deck that remind you why you’re here instead of in the city." - The MICHELIN Guide

Ten Authentic Tuscan Farmhouse Hotels

"Locanda Rossa’s original structure has undergone a modern expansion, but the seams don’t show a bit. Contemporary interiors meet farmhouse architecture in the rooms and suites, which, if not for the half-timbered ceilings and the views of the farm, could easily pass for modern urban apartments. Then again those views of the olive groves, not to mention the gardens and the pool deck, are why you’re here and not in a modern urban apartment in the first place." - Mark Fedeli

Locanda Rossa, Near Capalbio, Tuscany - Explore & Book

"As we approach through winding lanes fringed by sun-dappled hedgerows, we know that this is one of those places that just gets it right. Even with the later additions to the original historic farmhouse making 33 rooms and 4 villas altogether, Locanda Rossa preserves an intimate yet luxurious vibe that had us feeling immediately at home. Set among lush greenery, the hotel’s group of deep red buildings offer the perfect blend of beautifully designed rooms, relaxed lounge areas with outdoor armchairs, and well-manicured gardens to enjoy. The sweeping views take in its 3,800 olive trees and a classic Tuscan landscape beyond, while long, sandy beaches are just a short drive away. Most rooms have a private roof terrace or garden, so guests have a real sense of privacy, tranquility and space. With 2 outdoor pools, an on-site spa, tennis and padel courts, and a play area for children, this place has appeal for both couples and families. The restaurant cooks up delicious dishes that celebrate local ingredients from land and sea, and has an upmarket, romantic feel, while the stylish wine bar serves refreshments day and night. Service is infectiously warm and always professional, and there’s so much to explore in the surrounding area – that's if you can tear yourself away from lazing by the pool... Highs You're in the beautiful Tuscan Maremma, close to splendid beaches and the medieval village of Capalbio Helpful and welcoming multilingual staff, particularly the vivacious manager, Barbara Great for families: there's a second pool and a play area to keep kids busy Lots of local activities and places to visit, from island-hopping to a park of mosaic sculptures The restaurant is a delight and the breakfast spread - we're still dreaming about it Lows The Locanda Rooms are small and, although comfortable, don’t have a wow factor – we recommend upgrading if you can A steep entry fee for the spa – although i-escape guests will receive a free 'Spa Path' as a thank you for booking through us Prices for extras, such as drinks, are on the high side You'll need a car to get here, to explore the region, and to reach other restaurants" - Abigail Blasi

Locanda Rossa (Capalbio, Tuscany) 10 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Maremma, the coastal region where Tuscany meets Lazio, is a bit of a Johnny-come-lately as a holiday destination, though you’d never know it from looking at it today — here a once-impoverished agricultural region has been transformed into, well, a not-at-all-impoverished agricultural region, and one that’s as well known for tourism as for produce. And this fame is due in no small part to a wealth of independent hotels, places like Capalbio’s Locanda Rossa." - Tablet Hotels

Undoubtedly one of the best “boutique hotels” I’ve stayed in. It’s going on my top fav places ever. We only stayed one night, we’ll return to enjoy all the facilities (spa, padel court, tennis court, probably renting some bikes). We booked on booking and I got the feeling that the hotel is much better than announced. Breakfast is excellent, staff is exceptional and the hotel has exquisite decoration. We had dinner over the pool bar and everything was great. The rooms are over the moon comfortable and the bathroom was incredible. Everything was clean and tidy. Loved the branded products. We also got an upgraded room when we got there. Thank you so much for everything, we’ll surely be back!

Our stay at Locanda Rossa was absolutely beautiful. The property is breathtaking, the staff took excellent care of us, the food was amazing - it could not have been more perfect. We also enjoyed the nearby beach resort and close proximity to the train station. We would love to visit again some day!

We had a wonderful time in a part of Tuscany we had never visited before. The hotel is hidden away in the picturesque tuscan countryside. It felt rural, whilst only being an hour away from Rome and within easy reach of the historic towns of Capalbio (10 mins drive) & Orbetello (30 mins). The coast and some fantastic beaches also within easy reach. The hotel has an excellent restaurant for evening meals with a very good local wine menu, together with an all day lounge bar with separate food menu, which is also varied and with much locally sourced products and ingredients. The hotel restaurant hints at a farm to fork ethos, which is commendable, but I think more could be made of this point and the wider sustainability benefits this brings. There is a decent gym onsite, two pools, padel and tennis courts. A very helpful concierge who very quickly and efficiently made arrangements for our requests for activities and restaurants. Overall an excellent hotel and memories made. We wouldn't hesitate to return and to reccomend a stay here.

This Hotel is perfect, silenze, beauti and good food. We have been here 5 times. Love it! They have 2 pools, warm and good size. They have tennis, padle, gym, spa, sauna, good roads to jog. Very quiet Hotel with elegant look. Also good to bring children here, if you want to have a quiet vacation.

Idyllic and relaxing hotel, with amazingly large rooms that were very well cared for, comfortable and thoughtfully designed. We had a huge kitchenette in our room. The property was fantastic. Great food, breakfast buffet, relaxing and approachable vibe but definitely 5 star quality. 2 amazing pools, one for adults and one for kids.

Fantastic place, perfect location and lots of help from concierge. The shop in the hotel Is lovely and all facilities are great. Loved the room with and the beautiful little garden, very tranquil. Be mindful of travelling during school holidays, the hotel is very popular with young families with children although the adults only pool is helpful in that respect.

Wow, wow, wow! This place was amazing! I was in Italy for a cooking course. I wanted to split up my trip back to the Rome airport and this place was convenient. When I checked in, they told me they were upgrading my room. What? Really? Wow -- that NEVER happens to me. I'm a solo traveler and can almost guarantee that hotels will put me in the absolutely worst room. The hospitality industry doesn't treat solo travelers very well, but that's another topic. Anyway, when I got to my room -- holy moly -- it was probably the most beautiful room I've ever had. A nice entryway, walk-in closet, huge room, huge bathroom, and a private back patio and yard. The grounds are also beautiful and there were little pathways that made for nice walks. I didn't use the pool or spa, but they looked nice. Probably my only complaint -- the Red Bar changes their menu after 6:00 and it's very limited -- I wish they offered the lunch menu all day -- it had a lot more choices. Everyone I encountered here was very nice and I would definitely stay here again.

What an amazing boutique hotel with a country home feel in the middle of the countryside AND with easy access to the beach! The hotel grounds are immaculate and the pool was simply perfect. The food at the restaurants were also 10/10, as was the welcoming staff. It's the perfect home base to explore Maremma (still quite a hidden gem). Capablio town was incredible as was the nearby beach. Highly recommend this hotel for the beautifil hotel itself and access to the beaches of Tuscany!
