Le Balcon

"Chef Jean-Philippe Gauthier is upholding the traditions of this former coaching inn, which has been in the family since 1951. House specialties include: terrine of quail with plums and armagnac and a knockout trolley of matured cheeses. Meals are served in an interior that blends character and authenticity. Charming welcome and service. Rooms for overnight stays." - Michelin Inspector

We loved our lunch, Poulet aux Morilles au Vin Jaune is incredible, the Cheese platter is fantastic, and we loved the desserts ( amazing profiterole)

Driving through the village, one notices the hotel but not necessarily the restaurant that I discovered by chance while staying at the hotel. The welcome is warm and attentive, the hosts are overflowing kindness. Gourmet, classic and generous cuisine of very good quality, where fresh and local ingredients are privileged. Everything is homemade, the menu is varied and also offers prix-fixe menus for every budget. A pleasant surprise was the large trolley of cheeses, explained with care. Attentive and welcoming service. Very good selection of wines. The chef is a passionate awarded Maitre Restaurateur (fresh and local homemade cooking) and listed in the Michelin guide. The room was well equipped and quiet. Breakfasts are copious with homemade yoghurts. I asked for scrambled that were done immediately and perfectly done. A very good stop over to keep in mind

We stayed here overnight in June .We had not travelled this way for a while but had always found the rooms comfortable and the food excellent. There is also free garage parking. Our meal was better than we remembered. The home made bread and aperitif pastries were excellent as was the terrine of rabbit, fillet of beef and the dessert. The extensive cheeseboard as excellent too with a delicious marinaded goats cheese. The menu also included an amuse bouche, sorbet and pre-dessert! The coffee came with some lovely petit fours. It was not cheap ( however we found all French restaurants expensive ) but it was a real, if rather large treat! We will certainly visit again if we pass this way.

. . . but dinner at a price. Hotel positioned on a good road 30 mins. east of Langres and about 4 hours from Paris. Free garage parking. Pleasant rooms with bath or shower. Ours had a double washbasin & separate wc. (€75 in high season) Some overlook the road. No fuss wifi. Elegant restaurant where quality takes precedence over quantity. Homemade terrines and good choice (around 30) of cheeses. 3 courses á la carte cost €113 for two + wine. Fixed price menus would work out cheaper. Wine also by the glass. Selection of petit-fours offered by the house after the cheese. Standard petit déjeuner at €9 p.p. Friendly staff. We will stay again.

This is a very small village in the middle of a countryside area full of similar small villages, quiet, not very touristic area. It was exceptionally hot, and the hotel has no air conditioning. Nice and friendly people, a family business. Cleaning people a bit rough: I found my pijama that I left folden under the pillow trown on the floor. Some problem with the bathroom window, blocked. Good breakfast, possible to have it in the small terrace outside, pity it's on the main road (but there aren't tons of cars). Restaurant must be good, but we didn't try, we had other arrangements.||Large room and double bed.

This traditional hotel on the main road of Combeaufontaine offers quiet rooms to the backside of the hotel, an excellent breakfast with local products, friendly familiar service and an very good restaurant with local cuisine, good wines and a 15 year old Marc de Bourgogne, which I will not easily forget.
