La Table du Lion

"At Le Lion d'Or, the chef works his magic with produce sourced in Normandy that he embellishes with Asian flavours. An unexpected culinary marriage inspired by his travels in Asia, particularly Japan and Thailand. This is a lovely hotel and the location is great. It is walkable to many restaurants and shops. The staff at check in were very friendly. There are some parking spaces available for guests. The restaurant for dinner was superb. Lots of very innovative takes on dishes and service was top notch. Breakfast at hotel was pretty terrible. Everything was very undercooked and the eggs were truly inedible. There are several places in walking distance that are cheaper and significantly better for breakfast.

Useful parking in central Bayeux, including an electric charger. Very pleasant, helpful, staff. Room comfortable, but on the third floor, with no lift. TV had no English language channel, which was very surprising. Buffet breakfast was fine, though with a small hotel we might have hoped for personal ordering. Very good restaurant, but not open on Sunday and Monday, which is also surprising, being inconvenient for guests.

It’s a lovely place the staff is responsive. There is no elevator so if you’re tired or carrying packages, get ready for a climb up narrow and winding stairs. The room was more spacious than our other rooms so a big plus. And the bathroom was also very nice. If you have an early tour you have to rush through breakfast because the restaurant doesn’t open till 7. The location in town is excellent. You can walk to most places easily. I would stay here again.

This hotel is lovely!!! Service exceptional!! I had such a nice room that looked on the courtyard. I gave four stars to room because is there is no air conditioning. The room does come with a fan and bayeux usually cool outside so the windows open were lovely! The location is amazing as it is an easy 5-10 minute walk to any sight. Literally right on Rue St Jean--the street with all the shops and cafes. Excursion meeting point for most tours a close five minute walk away. Highly recommend !!!!! And Bayeux is truly a beautful town!!!!

Great stay at the Lion d'Or in Bayeux. We had a triple room with a great view. We also had the nicest meal of our whole trip at the restaurant downstairs - it was worth the splurge! Breakfast was also great. Nice location in walking distance to lots of sights and restaurants in Bayeux.

Whilst the hotel has history, and is in a great location for exploring Bayeux, there were a few frustrating items. The comfort room is very basic and there is no air conditioning. You have to pay even for basic soft drinks and sparkling water and a very small Toblerone in the basic mini 'bar' unless you pay superior rooms. Which are a lot bigger. But not much else being a benefit. Parking. Book in advance! Or you are left with hoping for a (thankfully) free space on the streets, but be prepared for being up to 400-500meters away. Breakfast was very help yourself and OK but nothing compared to some of our smaller hotels visted in other parts or France. No real extra options, some privisions slow to restock, and basic machine coffee. Found the attitudes from many locals in the area very much different to quieter parts of France like Saumur where they couldn't do enough. We did find a lively local restaurant having been scattergunned with 20 odd options at reception which was nothing more useful than doing a Google search really. Barman did make a great french 75 and great other drink options in evening. Handy place to stay, but not sure it's completely worth the money. Didn't try the restaurant.

Google
I definitely do not recommend this restaurant, a totally inappropriate attitude of the waiter. Although I made a reservation mentioning that we were coming with a child, on the spot they were disturbed by the behavior of my child (I mention that he was not crying, but actually playing normally), telling us directly that if he did not shut up to leave. Bad manners, unprofessionalism, lack of tact you can find them all at Restaurant La Table du Lion

If the Lion d'Or were a person, it would be Brittany Spears: a hot mess. My wife and I chose the hotel in Bayeux because it was centrally located and had a bar and restaurant on the premises. The hotel is beautiful, to be sure, and the location is fine. But there were four major problems with the property: (1) it was understaffed. There was no bartender so the receptionist filled in when she could leave the front desk. And that wasn't often. (2) Although the property advertised the bar as an amenity, they literally kicked my wife and me out of the bar to hold 'private functions' ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS! (3) Management was invisible until I complained about the bar closure. Then the hotel manager stood inches from my face in a poor attempt to intimidate me and basically told me in a loud voice that he would do whatever he wanted. He refused us access to the bar but offered to serve my wife and I a drink in a small, claustrophobic sitting room with room for no more than four or six people. (Goody.) Overall, he was obnoxious, insensitive and crude. And lastly, (4) the restaurant itself was hardly open. And since it was closed at the same time the bar was closed for the 'private functions,' I asked the manager why that location wasn't used instead of the bar for the function? In response all I got was a stare and a 'humpf!' ||Avoid this property if you visit Bayeux. There are plenty of other hotels where they value their customer.

Yelp
Great rep, underwhelming tho. Slow service for one (each course took ages). Food was more odd than good. Oysters not fully severed. Fish covered in what seemed like granola. Nice location and room. Good wine (as usual - France). Weak gin and tonic. Too strong old fashioned with no cherry or orange. No repeat visit for me.

Yelp
They have clearly updated this hotel. The public areas are very pretty and well thought out. We felt that the staff was a bit pushy, when we checked in, about having us make a reservation for both dinner and breakfast. We didn't eat dinner there. We tried breakfast but regretted it. By the time we got there for breakfast, the scrambled eggs and sausages were dried out. It's an average hotel. There are many other hotels in the area. The price was right. So we stayed here. Make sure you reserve a parking spot. There aren't too many.

Yelp
Stayed 2 nights. Acceptable. Good and friendly service. Great location--I walked to the Bayeux Tapestry museum, the D-Day museum, the reporters' monument, the Saturday outdoor market at Place St-Patrice, the British Cemetery, the Cathedral, and many restaurants. Reliable hi-speed Wi-Fi internet connection (maximum of 2 devices at a time per room). Average bed. No elevator. Preserves the WW2-era atmosphere that made it a favorite of Dwight Eisenhower. My room had a slight cumulated odor of past times; initially I opened the window despite the cold. Real keys for the room door that one turns in at reception when going out. When I checked in there was a loud repetitive thumping from the room above me. Initially I feared it might be the hotel's washing machine (though a strange location), but then realized it was the bed creaking at increasing frequency--the sound ended suddenly and was (somewhat sadly) not heard again during my stay. Other than that, I never heard sounds through the walls from other guests. The parking lot was torn up, so--to my disappointment because this was one of the top reasons I chose this hotel--resourcefulness was needed to park my car. Fortunately I was lucky as it was a weekend. On Saturday night I was able to grab one of the 3 non-torn-up interior parking spaces--free. Not possible on Sunday night because construction on the parking lot was resuming Monday, but I was fortunate in quickly finding a spot on the street just outside the driveway. No cost--(as the hotel receptionist let me know) street parking is free on Sunday, until 9am Monday.

Yelp
Clean, so that's good. Updated. Service is non existent. NON-EXISTENT. They do not have bell boys or bartenders. The front desk will sometimes help at the bar. It's a shame because the bar is quite cozy and a nice place to chill. The location is superb and the price is good. The town is super charming.

Yelp
It was our first time here. The hotel has a lot of history. Rooms are small, but remodeled and clean. Use your room key to access electric just inside the door. The croissants offered when we arrived were excellent post train ride. The restaurant food here was not bad, it was unique. The staff was excellent. I would for sure come back. Loved walking the streets in this town.

Yelp
Summary based on 1 two night stay: --good location, near sights, restaurants, and a market --easy to book from US --English spoken --ok, free Wifi --decent rooms, but no aircon --no lift --parking extra --breakfast good early on, but selection limited later. Moderately expensive. Alternatives nearby.

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant only. I do not recommend eating at this hotel restaurant. The food is mediocre at best and the service is the worst I experienced in all of France.

Yelp
For options in Bayuex this Hotel is great. Great location right in the heart of the main street, short walking distance to main city sites and train station. There is no elevator which isn't an issue for me, however some might need it. The room was nice, clean, good view of the courtyard. No a/c which also wasn't an issue we stayed in early May weather was in the 60's August might be different. The "king" bed was just two twins pushed together. The breakfast was a bit over priced for what was offered. Staff was friendly and spoke English which was helpful. Overall I would stay again.

Yelp
Centrally located, charming hotel with wonderful staff. The public rooms are lovely, including a historic lounge filled with autographed photos of famous guests. We stayed at a recently renovated room which had card-access door (the keys described in earlier posts are gone), a pleasant courtyard view and a nice bedroom - small by US standards, but typically-sized for France. The newly remodeled bathroom was spacious but dark (due to green-measures I think). No elevator, but not an issue for us. Good wifi and parking (spaces indicated with signage listing guest name). The staff were terrific.

Yelp
We had an amazing time dining at this restaurant last night. The portions were perfectly sized with amuse bouche between dishes and drink. I cannot say enough about our waiter/sommelier who was enthusiastic, lighthearted and provided us amazing recommendations on wine to pair with our meal.

Yelp
The hotel was very nicely maintained. There is no elevator, so be prepared to carry your luggage up some narrow steps! There was NO air conditioning, but fans (table, not ceiling) in the rooms and the windows opened. However, be aware there are no screens and there are pigeons that I swear were inches from flying in! The staff was very pleasant. If you eat breakfast, you have to tell the front desk so they can charge you. There are no waitresses. It is definitely different from the US, but pleasant once you get used to it!

Yelp
The good: Location The bad: The parking lot is tiny, if you want a space, you have to pay for it. No elevator Hotel smells of whatever they served for dinner each time you walk through the door. No ice available 2 small bath towels and two hand towels were provided, no washcloths. No a/c The bathroom floor is so cold that it feels like you are being stabbed with each step you take. No shower curtain, shower head is about 5 feet high, fine for me, not so much for my other half who is 6'3 They give you actual keys, which you are supposed to turn into the desk each time you leave. If you go out at night, be prepared to be back by 11 or they lock the gates. Room was cute and had bed and breakfast type of feel, but it stunk. It smell like it was full of mildew. Two twin beds pushed together to make a king sized, oh how I love sleeping on the crack. The walls are thin and the floor creaks, we were able to hear the people above us walking around most of the night. The wi-fi is awful. It goes on and off and you have to keep signing back in. The username and passwords are random letters, numbers and characters. Its a pain. The ugly: Lets start with my favorite: Around 1:30 a.m. the fire alarm starts going off. a few minutes later there is a knock at our door, due to no peephole, we open it. There stands a man wearing all black, does not identify himself, but barges into the room to ask if we are smoking. We assure him, we are not. He then says he is going to check the room and goes into our bathroom. He tells us that because someone took a hotel shower, we caused the fire alarm to go off. This makes no sense as it was a 5 minute, lukewarm shower. This situation scared us both, we had no idea who this man was (and still really don't) but for him to barge into our room with no apology was extremely inappropriate. We took a 2 hour day trip to another city, but I wasn't feeling well so we drove the 2 hours back so I could rest. We got up to the room only to find that some type of construction was being done below us. They were using a jack hammer and drills pretty much non-stop. We ended up having to get up and just go wonder around the city as the noise was more than I could handle. And finally, the first night we got there, we were celebrating a birthday. We asked for 4 glasses and ice from the front desk, they wouldn't give us either. We asked for 4 champagne flutes and they didn't want to give them to us unless we bought the champagne from this. Needless to stay, we will never being staying at this place again and would recommend other to stay away!
