We went to Lombardo's tonight to celebrate a special occasion. The guest of honor wanted to try it as he had never been. My wife and I have eaten there several times over the years and it has ranged from very good to disappointing, inconsistent would describe our experience. We sat down tonight and waited, and waited and waited. When our waiter who was very pleasant, finally came by he took our drink order. 25 minutes later we still didn't have our drinks. Two tables nearby came in after us by 10-15 minutes and had their drinks and appetizers before we finally received our drinks. He apologized for the delay, we ordered apps, salad and dinner and he brought the app's quickly. It's how you recover right? The Apps were of high quality and very good, Calamari, grilled Octopus and the figs. We also ordered the table side Caesar Salad which was not edible due to way too much vinegar in the salad dressing. It was awful. Now we waited for our pasta and again it took way too long. I was curious why he set my place with a steak knife when we had ordered pasta. Finally we were served and two of us ordered the Carbonara and one the Fazoletti. The Fazoletti was liked by our guest and he enjoyed it, the pasta in both orders of the carbonara was way too overcooked and mushy, way too starchy. It was not enjoyable at all, and very disappointing. We were there so long and our experience was not positive at that point, so we decided against coffee and dessert and asked for the check. When our check came back we were overcharged for several (6) items we didn't order and the bill was almost double what it should have been. I circled and/or check marked the charges that were not ours on the bill. We brought this to our waiters attention and he agreed and apologized and said he would fix and bring right back. When he came back after another 10 minutes there were still three items on the check we didn't order. He apologized again and said he would correct it. The table behind us also informed him that their check was incorrect by several items. Another 20 minutes passed before he brought the check back which we paid and finally left. I understand that things happen and it's how you recover that matters, but the incredible wait and poor quality of the salad and two of the three entrees was incredibly disappointing for a fine dining restaurant. We really wanted to love it here but it was a very big disappointment all the way around.
