The Best Pizza in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"The interior of Lombardos is airy and austere, a lot of glass and cement and cans of tomatoes, with little in the way of seating. The minimalist decor speaks to the intense focus on the product, and the results more than make up for a lack of battered vinyl booths. Lombardo’s does North Jersey pies, including cracker-thin bar-style and traditionally inverted tomato pie (the sauce goes on top of the cheese for a deeply roasted burst of tomato). For extra seating, visit the Chill and Fill cart pod across the street, or camp out at nearby Philly bar Lombard House for the true East Coast experience." - Ben Coleman

Bob is such a great person and his pizza is the BEST! Thin crust, bubbly dough and cooked to perfect crunchy perfection!! Thanks for such a great Pepperoni pie!

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean and uncluttered it was. There were only 2 guys working and both were super nice and helpful. I walked in on a Sunday and placed the order; it was ready in about 30 minutes. The pizza itself was delicious! A nice chewy and crisp crust, plentiful fresh toppings and a very flavorful sauce. I got the prosciutto with green olive, and it was incredible! I wish I would've snapped a photo but it smelled so good we started eating before even thinking about a photo. With all the amazing pizza in Portland this place definitely has a spot on my roster from now on.

I live on the far east side of town so I'm never by this place and now I'm going to have to find excuses to get here. The guy making the pies all by himself made sure to let us know he was over an hour out for a pick up Solo pie. I had heard good things from reliable sources so I waited. It was worth it. Some places go light on toppings so there is a balance of flavor, I get it. I like a little more bold flavor. The pie I got had a very healthy amount of toppings, the sauce had enough body to shine through as did the cheese. The crust was well cooked, not burnt but had color and crispy. Today I ate one of the best pizza I've had in Portland and probably ever really. Go buy this pizza!

Google
Wow. David Portney would rate this pizza a 10/10. My bar pizza was on point! Perfectly crispy, great ratios of sauce/crust/cheese, and friendly staff. I also enjoyed a beer while I waited and even my dog was welcome. The only problem (for me and my waistline) is that it's only a half mile away from me 😅

Google
The best pizza in Portland! - Crust: crisp on the outside, chewy and soft on the inside - Sauce: all about the tomato (as it should be) - Cheese: just the right amount As Kevin McCallister would say, 'A lovely cheese pizza just for me'.

Google
Well-made, tasty pizzas. Very balanced…not too much cheese, for example. You either have to order online, if available, or show up and order/wait. NO PHONE ORDERS as of this writing. I get it saves $ on staffing, but it takes a looong time waiting for takeout pies. Dining in facilities are bare bones. There are a few picnics tables outside that will be good in summer.

Google
The Pizza is awesome, the chef is super kind and so is the cashier, the pizzas price was fair and the pizza was really good too! It takes a while sometimes for pizza to get ready but it’s understandable since it’s one person making the pizza! Definitely will be coming back soon

Google
-Food-everything is practically homemade and not overly complicated. Allows a person to really taste the flavors. He has a simple menu, but has mastered it. -location-This place has a simple design and yet elegant approach. It’s not easy establishing a business. The fact he could turn a dry cleaner place to a beautiful pizzeria is amazing. -service- a very nice impatient person. Also, very good at explaining what you are looking for in a pizza.

Yelp
It's perfect. We're so lucky that Lombardo's is in our neighborhood. It's a perfect pie. Full Stop.

Yelp
Really solid NJ style pizza in north Portland! Located right across the street from the food cart pods it has a parking lot which is awesome. Came on a Friday night based on a recommendation from our neighbor and it did not disappoint! Rookie mistake coming on a Friday afternoon and not call on in ahead as the wait was 40 mins - which is why I docked a star. Lesson learned! They have picnic tables so you can grab a drink to kill the time, go to the food carts, or wait in the parking lot they have. Really cute shop when you order as you can also purchase grocery items like pasta and drinks from their fridge. They do half's for pizza but with only cheese as the other option. The whole pizzas will cost you around $30 each but they have quality ingredients. Definitely need to come back to try the other flavors but the pepperoni was not skimpy at all and so delicious. Might not be the healthiest meal but tons of toppings and crisp crust to hold it up and not be soggy. Yum!!

Yelp
Just one guy throwing down amazing pizzas. Great outdoor seating, and even some wine and other italian mart items for sale. A definite must try in St. John's.

Yelp
Finally got my timing right and was able to snag a delicious pizza from Lombardo's. Thin crust with yummy pepperoni and sauce. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
Horrible!!!!!! Stores closes at 8 walked in at 7:19 and said I couldnt order for the night ridiculous!!!!

Yelp
Did I like this pizza? Well I crushed 6 slices before I even got home so yeah I liked the pizza. I ordered the pepperoni pizza and the bar pie, which is an extra thin cheese pizza. I don't know what NJ style pizza is, but I loved the pizza here. The bar pie is very thin, but not floppy. Perfect bake on both pizzas. The cheese and sauce had great flavor. The pepperoni pizza was definitely thicker than the bar pie, but still thin like NY style. Very simple operation, only the owner was working and I was the only customer (not surprising since I picked it up at 5:15pm). I will definitely be returning here. Outsiders don't know this, but Portland is one of the best cities in the world for pizza. I've eaten at over half of the spots in town and Lombaro's is definitely in my top 5, maybe top 3.

Yelp
Amazing pizza! Delightful sauce on perfect thin crust. Pizza is foldable for easy eating. We sat outside and enjoyed our meal on a moderate temperature evening. There is limited indoor seating. We had the Soppresata and Banana Pepper pie. Ingredients are top quality, soppresata is one my favorite cured meats and it was delicious. The banana peppers were excellent and the fresh basil on top was nice. Great service from the owner and his employee. I loved how simple the menu is also, to me it expressed how confident he is in his product and he should be as the pizza is one of the best I have had. Price was very fair for the current market. We have 1/2 our pie left for a second meal! Looking forward to another visit and trying one of his other creations.

Yelp
Jersey pizza! And, yes, legit pizza. A guy from Patterson, New Jersey moves to St Johns and wants to bring a bit of the east coast to the northwest. Let's make some really good pizza. I frequent Lombard House down the street and Brian, the owner, and several others that I know kept telling me about Lombardo's pizza and that I should try it. So, game one of the Eagles this season, a bunch of us planned to do just that. But the website didn't work. Fast forward to yesterday and I made it over and explained to the owner about that day. Turns out he opened later than normal and was by himself. So making six pizzas wouldn't have worked anyway. Lombardo's has a small menu but I liked what I saw and really enjoyed what I got. Tomato and garlic, basically a margarita. It looked and smelled correct. A little char on the bottom and bubbly crust on the top. As for the taste? Definitely a pizza that I grew up with. The slight sweetness of the basil and sauce, the mild saltiness of the cheese and the crust was spot on. Chewy and crispy in the right places. Yeah, this place will do just fine up in St Johns. Big space, few indoor seats and some more outside, but being that we're heading towards the rainy season, we'll probably get the zah to go and enjoy it at home. Enjoy and support local PDX.

Yelp
This is the best pizza I've ever had. Truly remarkable and life altering stuff in this pizzeria.

Yelp
Already ate halfway through the pizza before I could snag a minute to write a review! We got the prosciutto and green olive and it was DELICIOUS. This place doesn't skimp on the toppings so it had great flavor. We've also had the tomato and garlic, and the pepperoni, both amazing. Sometimes you can't place an order online and you have to go in, which can require a little planning- but worth it! A great spot for pizza, will definitely be back!

Yelp
With limited hours and menu 3-8 pm and 8 pies. This pizzeria won't be for everyone. Having said that, the pies are pretty good. The crust decent, the sauce excellent and the ingredients fresh. The staff is friendly, the pies reasonably quick. There is take out only or you can enjoy the pies there on some nice picnic tables. Those tables will work well till fall comes, then we'll have to see if they bring them inside to use. Anyway you slice it, Lombardo's is a nice addition to the neighborhood.

Pamela D.

Yelp
We are visiting from California and had a craving for pizza. Lombardo's was recommended on Google so we pulled up at 7:15pm. Hours on the door are 3:00-8:00pm. Perfect there's still time right? WRONG. We walked in and the guy told us they are no longer taking orders. At 7:15p??? Wtf? So disappointing. Terrible customer service.

Yelp
The best pizza in Portland! I'm from NY and I can't stop getting pizza from Bob! The crust is thin and crispy and he uses high quality meats and cheeses. His flavors are amazing!
google avatar

Daniel F.

Yelp
Hands down amazing! We came up to Portland to purchase a vehicle, after being disappointed by other restaurants earlier in the day, and discovered Lombardo's. Usually we drown our pizza in ranch, but man, the prosciutto and green olive pizza was so divine it needed nothing more! Thank you Lombardo!

Patti T.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza. The crust was amazing. Prices are in keeping with the quality of the ingredients and the generosity of the serving

Yelp
Loved it. We're from NY. This is pretty close to perfect NY pizza. Friendly service. Thin crust and flavorful sauce. We'll be back.

Mary T.

Yelp
Ordered a pizza on Wednesday night, went and picked it up asked if I could get cold tomatoes on the side and you would've thought I asked for the cooks first born. Pizza was overcooked and salty, tomatoes would've greatly improved it. Not wasting my money anymore at this establishment.

Yelp
Yummy pizza! Didn't notice much of a difference between the NJ Bar and cheese, but both were tasty. My husband thought there was a little too much parmesan, but when I asked him if he would order from there again he said yes - I would too! Definitely try it!
google avatar

Spencer L.

Yelp
Amazing New Jersey style pie. Not to mention Chill and Fill right across the street. Can't wait to see this business grow!
google avatar

Zachary L.

Yelp
Solid Jersey style pizza. Super friendly owner. Nice location. ABOUT THE PIZZA We got the Bar Pie and a pepperoni pizza. Both were solid, I do wish the bar pie was a little thinner for sure but being from Jersey I am biased cause I used to get super thin bar pies from actual Jersey bars and it's just a different beast, and I don't know what other peoples perception of bar pies is. But I know there multiple different versions of bar pies. ABOUT THE SPACE Lombardo's definitely seems like the inside of the place is getting its i's dotted and its t's crossed. It's awesome to see a place at its beginnings, so many places push it to the limit and go "too hard in the paint" but I really like the DIY beginnings. It's shows passion and hard work. Hopefully there will be a dining space in the future on the inside, cause I'd love to sit down and crush a couple slices.
google avatar

Matthew P.

Yelp
As a New Yorker, I wanted to love this pizzeria, but I can't do it. Love the owners passion being from New Jersey. The pizza just doesn't do it for my NY palate. The biggest takeaway was the sauce's lack of flavor and too much Parmesan being added to the pie.

Yelp
I was visiting from Los Angeles and stayed around this area. I was walking by and spotted Lombardo's, which looked like a ghost kitchen. However, this was one of the best pizzas I've ever had! I hope this will be a staple in Portland and I look forward to the next time I visit! Thank you Lombardo's, it was worth the wait ;)

Carl S.

Yelp
Oh, this place is so legit! Great East Coast style pizza. Complex flavor on the crust with a great chew and crunch. Sauce is not too sweet, just right. I don't know what cheese they are using but it's perfect too. Everything topped just right with quality ingredients. It took a bit to get the pie but the guys told us that when we came in and made sure we were OK with that. It was a busy Friday and they only have so much space in their oven. I hope they find great success and can soon afford another oven or two. I put this pizza right up there with the best in Portland!
google avatar

Skylar A.

Yelp
This pizzas good... I'm kinda of a pizza freak so it's not fair..ish.... It's not exactly what they advertise by saying New Jersey Pizza. It's not... it's a Portland pie that is good. Little too floppy to be perfect. Sauce and crust not from Jersey..if you know pizza then you know what I'm talking about.. Nonetheless!!. Staff were rad and friendly absolutely no issues with anything. I had a pizza and beer, got full and enjoyed myself. I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Lannie K.

Yelp
Holy shit this pizza is good. The most 'Portland' pizza shop ever in a pristinely clean vintage building that looks like it might have been a former gas station. A bespectacled tattooed former punk rock lead singer throws fresh dough in the air and stretching it thin over his hands like he was born doing the motions. The pizza itself is spectacular with thick pepperoni slices and the most perfect salty cheese mix ever. If you are looking for a pie sans meat try the ricotta with red onion and fresh basil, it's a winner.

Yelp
The pizza is meh. The crust was ok. But waaaaay overpriced. There are 5 other pizza options within a half mile. $25 for a small?!? Do better.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Excellent pie - flavorful sauce with a crispy crust. Nice thick pepperoni. When you pick it up it doesn't collapse like some other soggy bottoms you'll find across town. Good stuff. Welcome to the neighborhood!
google avatar

Rod J.

Yelp
Yum! So glad to have a good pizza option in the neighborhood! This was my first time, I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Frist time eating here and won't be the last. The pizza was delicious and the owner was very kind; overall great service.

Liz G.

Yelp
The best pizza l've had in NW!!!! Very kind staff and quick service. The inside is cool too. This is my new go to pizza spot. The pepperoni is soooo good, very real sausage. The pizza is made fresh to order.
google avatar

Felicia R.

Yelp
If youre looking for thin crust, amazing sauce, thick cut pepperoni, or even Prosciutto, Capocollo and Sopressata, then this is your new place. Im obsessed with this place. Its such a small mom and pop place right now. Every time Ive come in its the owner making all the pies and making sure its all perfect. They get back to basics with pizza, no frills but the quality is spot on. They only have whole pies right now but I eat it for a few days. I hope they do single slice soon!!! Until then, its my favorite pizza in Portland and im stoked i live right down the street

Ethan H.

Yelp
Crust is thin but still perfectly chewy, sturdy, and flavorful. Some of the best pizza I've had in town, plus the authenticity and service are hard to beat. The sauce could have a review of its own with the way it perfectly balances each component of the pies. Simple menu, no frills just good pizza. You can't really ask for anything else.

Ian S.

Yelp
One of the best Pepperoni pizzas I've ever had. Thank you for putting more than ingredients in your pies.

Sam L.

Yelp
Super good food. Worth the wait. Really nice staff and great location. Pizza crust is crazy good; I wish they did calzones too. If they throw some sports games on TV and get some beer on tap, this place will be a Portland staple

Bruce R.

Yelp
Love this place! Great NJ-style pizza from a Jersey native transported to Portland. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
Average pizza, pepperoni is a little to thick if you like crispy pepperoni. Sauce is average, too little cheese and almost no basil. Kinda meh, not good but not bad.

Lena H.

Yelp
The best pizza crust in north Portland!! It falls apart in your mouth. I can eat a whole pizza by myself and not feel weighted down. They use really good quality ingredients and you can tell!

Amber M.

Yelp
This pizza is sooooooo delicious!!!! Amazing crust! The sauce, toppings and cheese were perfect! We had the pepperoni! Must try!! The owner who made our pizza, was on the spot when we walked in! Friendly! Professional! Awesome!!

Delaney L.

Yelp
So grateful Lombardo's is in the neighborhood!! The pizza is delicious, you won't regret it. Also recommend the chocolate chip cookies!

Alex H.

Yelp
Best in the neighborhood! The tomato pie has "red gravy" on top and I highly recommend checking it out. It's such a great style that I've never experienced before. I'll be ordering from here often!
