Lone Owl Pub Review - Wicker Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Lone Owl (or, The Bar Formerly Known As Pint) is a Wicker Park spot that has the spirit of an Irish bar and a menu channeling the Pacific Northwest. On the surface, not much has changed since Lone Owl took over Pint’s 20-year run in the neighborhood. There’s still a large dog-friendly patio out front and a bright-red phone booth marking the entrance. Inside, besides a few TVs for game days, this place has all the warmth of your favorite pub—cozy nooks, brick walls, and low amber light. But Lone Owl happens to have some unexpected bar food. Yes, there’s a burger on the short menu, and inexplicably, a bulgogi hoagie. But there’s also a variety of hit-or-miss seafood starters and mains like underseasoned lobster corn dogs, and a surprisingly tasty pan-seared salmon. Count on eating your meal in peace because this place can be pretty deserted, especially on weeknights." - Veda Kilaru

I absolutely loved this place - the atmosphere, food, and drinks were all fantastic! And the prices? I was pleasantly surprised to find bubbly for just $10. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
This place certainly has potential! We went the day before their official grand opening and really liked the vibe and decor. Service was a tad slow, and our food took a bit to come out despite the restaurant not being busy, but I'm chalking that up to being a brand new operation. We liked the Pacific Northwest themed menu, and the cocktail list looked interesting (it was lunch, so we skipped drinks.) We don't have a lot of gastropubs in Wicker Park so I think it'll fit in well as something different. We ordered the salmon tartare, crab cakes, mac and cheese (side order) and seafood bisque. The crab cakes were pretty good, but one of them wasn't seasoned as well as the other two. The salmon tartare was really interesting, it looked like something out of a Michelin star restaurant where they get experimental with the food. It tasted pretty good, but didn't have a lot of salmon or roe for the $20 price tag. The mac and cheese was delicious and hot! The seafood bisque was tasty, but it wasn't nearly as hot as the mac and cheese, which makes me think it was sitting in the kitchen for a little bit. All in all, if we had had this experience at a restaurant that had been open for months I would have been disappointed, but seeing as it had only been open less than a week I'm willing to chalk some things up to just how new everything is. Our server also acknowledged that the kitchen was a bit slow during their soft opening. I really think this could be a well-loved place if they tighten up their kitchen and get a host stand.

Google
This place is a true GEM! Bar were “bar” food is elevated to a completely different level. Dishes are unique pretty and most important super tasty! Service is top notch. Attention to details are very visible. From the Decor to lights, comfy chair and upstairs areas for a private parties. Great choice of background music and of course cocktails that are pretty delicious and generous! Can’t wait to come back and try more food. Picture of a good looking man with a little bird is my brother who saved that baby bird from cars. Birds are a good luck and I wish the new owners a lot of LUCK!!!

Google
Wow, stop the Press Vicky Vale, this is a spot in time, warm atmosphere, most excellent staff, food that will make your mouth want more and share everything on the table. Lobster Sliders out of this world. Tattore tatts that compete with Daily Bar and Grill!!! The drinks specials should not be missed warms and spice , to dessert banana martini to end the night. Hannah is my recommended server, tip well visit often!

Google
super cozy bar with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend the Lychee Martini! Our server was incredibly sweet but very busy. They have trivia on Wednesday nights at 7 pm! Definitely on the pricier side but they have decent deals throughout the week The chef’s pasta is delicious and we really enjoyed their Buffalo chicken wings

Google
Food and service is great! Music is a little too loud and lame but besides that, pretty good gastro pub. I've been craving the Owl Komova cocktail after a week because its so good, will return

Heather

Google
Stopped in for cocktails..very reasonably priced. While here, we met the owner, who made a point to ask our names. Staff was courteous and efficient! Upstairs mezzanine is a vibe! Will definitely return!

Google
The chicken sandwich was amazing, and the fries were so so good!!! The meals are around $20 a person, but pretty good size. The churros are good, but the best thing ever. Drinks are more on the expensive side.

Yelp
Hit up Lone Owl Pub in Wicker Park last weekend and it was a straight banger, dropped around $70 before tip. Went for the Lobster Corn Dog, Sticky Fried Chicken, and a Lychee Martini plus an Owl Komova cocktail. The corn dog was loaded with lobster and that tandem of chicken and noodles was crispy‑sweet fire, while the Lychee Martini hit that classy sweet note and the Owl Komova was a refreshing knockout. Staff were super chill and walked me through their seasonal lineup and that dog‑friendly patio is massive, perfect for summer hangs. Cozy interior with lots of seating nooks made it feel like a home away from home. Can't wait to swing back for happy hour and try more of their rotating craft cocktails.

Yelp
Despite walking by this place for the past few years while living in Wicker Park, I have yet to step in until today. Boy have I been missing out. Their Smashburger was delicious, and their french fries were very tasty. Their rotating cocktail menu is a little pricey, but incredibly flavorful and clearly a lot of attention goes into it. The service was very kind, particularly because I brought two young rambunctious toddlers with me. It's kind of a cool vibe, it appears to be going for that English pub setting, plenty of TVs for sports, and they have a few board games you can play. I will definitely be coming back, as the chicken wings at the table next to me looked quite delectable...

Yelp
Better than expected to be honest. I mean I knew I'd love a proper Guinness at any proper pub, but the food was way better than expected, the vibe of the place with the couches and fireplace, and the service was great too. Classic pub menu options, but all executed better than expected. Looks like such a standard bar from the outside but really expands on the inside, love the elevated tables like a proper pub and then the couches and fireplace make for a very homely meal on the other side. I had the french dip with giardiniera which was really good. The fries were super crisp and despite not being overly hungry, I cleaned my plate. My wife did the same with her meal. The wings were solid too to start. Our server was very attentive as well - he came over multiple times to make sure drinks were full, we had the food we needed, and given how quickly we put in food, he clearly made sure the kitchen got us our food quickly given how hungry some in our party were. Would definitely return!

Yelp
The perfect pub to hang out with friends in Wicker, the music was such a throwback to the 2000s! Both the cocktails were boozy for the price, so worth it. Just wished the cauliflower was crispier and not soggy from the buffalo sauce, the chicken and veggies were the perfect mix. Our waitress was attentive and constantly checking on us. Will be coming back for sure

Yelp
I've always passed by this place, and it was always closed. We went here last night and had a great experience. Super friendly staff, unique cocktails and cute space- what's not to like? We ordered a peanut butter White Russian that was amazing. I can't wait to try out their other cocktails next time!
google avatar

Yelp
Great staff, awesome patio, cute inside seating in the heart of wicker park. Only ordered the fried pickles but they went craaaaazy. Super tasty, they didn't last long. Decent selection of beers on tap. Great quick stop after work!

Yelp
Trivia night on Wednesdays! Our server did a fantastic job and gave great drink recommendations. Lone owl is a elegant and quirky place that has something for everyone - including delicious food. I was surprised at how good my shrimp tacos turned out! I recommend stopping by if you're in the neighborhood. The patio is very nice as well! -AT

Yelp
This place was a really nice find. We came here for trivia and got a few beers as well. The Shiner Summer Shandy was amazing. Also the pimento cheese balls will change your life.

Yelp
I don't dislike this place. Nice setup & atmosphere. Friendly and efficient service. The chicken sandwich was tasty and on a delicious bun. The accompanying waffle fries were excellent. However, I was sorely disappointed by the Brussels sprouts. They were not at all hot/warm and on the hard side. I took them home and cooked them some more to make them better. I had the sauce & bacon on the side, which I prefer. The sauce was a bit spicy for me but good Would return and maybe try the mussels.
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
I don't know how we've missed thus place! Cool ambiance, efficient and polite service and extremely fun and substantial menu! Peanut butter white Russian was the standout and Anna was just the sweetest. Solid burger too. Will be back for sure!

Yelp
My friends and I just walked into this bar to enjoy a few drinks on a Sunday afternoon. This is atypical PNW pub with some amazing music though (Kudos to DJ Dave who was playing on Sunday afternoon) The Dj played some very good tech house music. Good music along with good drinks was icing on the cake. We ordered a Lychee Martini, Wasabi Martini, and Owl Komova. All the drinks were really good! Wasabi Martini was quite creative, it didn't have a smoky spicy taste as much, but wasn't sweet at all which was good! The service was good as well. Our server was grooving to the music and taking our order which I thought was pretty cool! They have a lot of seating space, an amazing bar, couches around a fireplace which was nice. This is a relatively newer place and they have exciting offers over the weekdays; look out for tips on my Yelp profile to learn more if you're interested. Overall, a decent place in Wicker Park. I cannot comment on food as we didn't try any! P.S. I earlier thought this place is an English pub as it smelled of fish and chips and there's a large telephone booth right outside at the entrance, although, after reading reviews I realized it's a PNW themed bar which honestly isn't that evident.

Yelp
Came here to cool off and grab a drink on a super hot day in Chicago. Let me say it is nice and cold in here my god. Such a save for us from the summer heat. We had really good service, sat on some very comfortable couches, with great drinks. Service was excellent our guy was super attentive and friendly.
google avatar

Jillian B.

Yelp
Cute spot with a ton of delicious cocktails. I really liked the interior because of the varying types of seating for groups of different sizes. On Wednesdays, they have $2 off drafts and signature cocktails!

Yelp
This is a great new addition to the neighborhood! We decided to go on a whim as we used to go to the previous spot, we checked out the menu and were super excited. Came here on a Sunday and there was a live DJ performing and it was a great time. Additionally, the food is amazing! We got the lobster corn dogs, the lone owl burger with fries and the mussels. My boyfriend said these mussels are his second favorite in the city, the butter served was so delicious, garlicy, and creamy. Our server was great and attentive. Her and the bartender were the only two front line members and rocked it out of the park.

Yelp
This is a fun bar with a really unique layout and many quiet nooks to hang in. It made a few expats feel like we were at our local. Great beers on tap. It was only drinks for us. So, Mosh Pit for me and a glass of Oregon Pinot for my wife. Wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it with my own eyes. In walks this Svengali looking dude on a random Sunday afternoon and he's leading around a girl on a leash. Bring out the gimp

Yelp
First time checkin it out since the rebrand. It was slow for a warm Saturday. There is cute seating up top but so hot! We moved on down to the main floor. Service was pretty slow here as well. I ordered the sticky fried chicken and the elder fashion, my friend choose the lobster corn dog and lychee martini. There was a menu change so the sticky fried chicken comes with noodles now instead of rice. I wish it was with rice instead of noodles. It was definitely a big dish. The elder fashion was super strong but I was able to swap it for a lychee martini. Overall cool place.
google avatar

Yelp
Been coming here for nearly 15 years, ever since it was Pint. Place still looks the same inside, and the menu, while some modifications happened, still has some of the foods from when it was Pint. Still a good place to go for drinks and bites in Wicker Park.
google avatar

Yelp
Atmosphere was typical for a pub. It was a little loud inside put that is my personal preference. Service was good, server was polite and knowledgable. Food was very good, tasted delicious, portions were on the larger side. I got the lobster Mac, very rich, a little too oily. Fish and chips was good, would have preferred more fish and less chips.
google avatar

Rita M.

Yelp
Went here for a date and they have 2 diff seating areas. Their mushroom dip and pierogis were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Lychee martinis were YES PLEASE. Will def come here again
google avatar

Georgia G.

Yelp
I'm so glad we decided to check this spot out for lunch one day bc its def one of the best Pubs around. It has such a cozy vibe yet its a pretty large with multiple sections. The waitstaff were all so friendly / welcoming & the food is top notch. Honestly, the Best Fish in Chips I've had in Chicago, thus far & I've lived here my whole life! The Fish was so fresh & perfectly fried, plus the meal was HUGE I took leftovers home and still had some remaining when I was full. We also ordered a salad which had great fresh ingredients as well. Although, we went for a quick lunch and beer, it seems like a great spot to hang with a group of people considering the size and overall vibe of the Pub. We will definitely be back!

Taylor C.

Yelp
Horrible service! Stopped to get a drink and quick bite on a Friday at 6pm and we ended up being there for 1 hour to get 2 drinks and an app. Hardly anyone was there and we sat outside. The servers kept switching between the 2 on staff, went inside for the bathroom and it was hardly busy in there too. We ordered 1 beer and 1 Moscow mule, it took close to 30min to get those. We also ordered the mushroom dip and it took 45min to get, when the server came over to ask if we ordered the fried pickles so we knew something was up. When the dip finally came, the melted cheese on top was hard - I went to dip the bread in and it literally just hit the top. We had to use a knife to get it out and it was cold and solidified, I couldn't even eat it since it tasted so bad. We were going to say something but it took so long for them to get the check and I was just over it at that point. Maybe you'll have better luck, but I've told everyone how horrible it was
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
I wanted to get out by myself to feel good because I'm going through some tough times. I heard about this place and saw the rave reviews about their burger. I'm a big burger fanatic and a PNW guy. I sat myself but I think reservations are recommended. I started off with a beer and wings. Wings were spectacular. Some of the best I've had in a while. Then came the burger. I wanted to like it but it just wasn't for me. Kind of bland. The waitress was so great. But would I come back again? Maybe.

Yelp
Striking and inviting, the Lone Owl Pub is impossible to miss in Wicker Park. We sat outside and our waitress was chill, but attentive the entire time. We ordered the fried pickles and my partner got a mojito which was very refreshing. As for the pickles, they were thick slices, making the juice dampen the tasty, but thin breading. The star of the appetizer was their house made ranch. I COULD DRINK IT...if I were in the comfort of my own home. (It's that damn good) I got their house burger and he got the cubano. Both were sadly lack luster. The burger was tasty, but there was too much bacon jam that overpowered the balance of the burger. The cubano could have had more seasoning and less cook time. We enjoyed the vibe and would come back, but I think they need to fine tune some items.
google avatar

Neva M.

Yelp
Lone Owl was very accommodating to our party of 6. We had a large booth that worked well for us. The space had neat owl decor and a chill vibe. The food and drinks were really good, as everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The burgers were made perfectly and the salmon gnocchi was delicious. We ordered the Parmesan wings as an appetizer. They were a little too "wet" for some, but the flavor was good. No complaints whatsoever. Would definitely visit again when in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Stellar service! Came here twice (because my first experience was so great!) with my pup and the staff made me feel like family! They all came out to meet Paco on his second day at Lone Owl- which had to happen because it was so good the first time! This is true hospitality. The food is also delightful- but the true stars are the staff.

Patrick H.

Yelp
Nice local spot with a good vibe and good service. Brussel sprouts were underwhelming and a little under cooked but the beer was cold.
google avatar

Lane P.

Yelp
The vibes here are great. Love the wooden/stone finish to everything, it makes it feel cozy and comfy. There was a live DJ playing some pretty rad reggae music. It's a great place to have a quiet meal with family or watch a game with some friends. I didn't get to try the cocktails, but the bar has some nice liquor options but is limited (mostly quality cocktail bases). Beer taps taste well maintained and good local options. The appetizer was fantastic (salmon tartare on crystal bread) and unique. The entree was pretty ok (PBX Crab sandwich), the fries were more of a highlight than the sandwich. Service was great! the people working here were fun :) I would come back, but I'll probably choose a different entree option next time around!

Marc R.

Yelp
I like the vibe, the wait staff was great, good drinks. The food is not great. Hamberger was Meh, but the lobster sliders had no taste what so ever. A bunch of goop. Have drink, eat somewhere else.
google avatar

Claudia R.

Yelp
Highly recommend the salmon gnocchi, mushroom Swiss burger and tequila sunrise mocktail! I love the decorations here as well, it has a great vibe. JP is a great server!

Dave H.

Yelp
The service was just bad. To accommodate our party they put two tables together and told us they would get shims to keep them from rocking. Three requests - no action. Six meals came out in five waves. Two were wrong. They forgot drink orders. So to be honest I was so turned off my experience of the food was mediocre at best. Be better. It really shouldn't be that hard to do that.
google avatar

Yelp
So glad this place opened up in the neighborhood! Met the owner last week when I popped in with my buddy who was visiting from Los Angeles. We both loved the place, and they make some killer espresso martinis. Great bar with vintage appeal and moody design vibes! This will be a great spot for Halloween with all the spooky decorations they have. Love the upstairs seating area and that railing detail. Tons of great high lacquer paint work throughout as well! It's pretty big with two sides available to guests and large bar area. Planning to stop in again soon and try some lite bites. Hoping to plan a motorcycle meet up here before the season ends as well. So if you ride a Harley, let's make it happen! Braap! Lastly, and probably most importantly, everyone we met there was super upbeat and cool. Nice folks! Welcome to the neighborhood Lone Owl and good luck with everything. We need more businesses to open up since being shuttered post Covid. I love Wicker Park, and Bucktown, this is always going to be home for me. Best wishes!

Joseph A.

Yelp
Ordered a Grey Goose Martini Extra Dirty, I think they believe dirty means the main ingredient should be vermouth. Terrible for a place that has a martini listed on posters throughout the bar!
google avatar

Nicholas W.

Yelp
Honestly I feel so bad for this place. The service isn't bad, and neither are the food or drinks. But nothing pulls me back. It isn't interesting enough, the bar doesn't look stocked, the personality isn't there. It's cocktail menu is short and sweet and most of the drinks are more "interesting" than tried-and-true. The PNW theme is so uncommitted, you wouldn't know unless you saw it on social media. And it barely looks open. Nothing about this place makes me want to come back. It is all just *fine*. I really hope something changes, I want to root for this place, but if they don't change something I can see this place closing very soon, unfortunately.
google avatar

Katie K.

Yelp
The vibe is chill and cozy. Plenty of TVs at the bar, but then there's also a more secluded area upstairs. Pretzel and beer cheese were amazing. Our server was super nice as well.
google avatar

My-Kim T.

Yelp
We are visiting Chicago and stumbled upon a gem! This place was so warm and welcoming. We were unsure if this place was baby friendly but as soon as we stepped in, we were warmly greeted at the door and the owner gave us multiple seating options that would be great for our babygirl. Our server Carla was very sweet and gave great service as well. This place had the coolest decor. From top to bottom it has such a cool ambiance. We originally just wanted a drink but after seeing the menu, we opted to get food too. The mussels were so good. Great place, delicious food options, and amazing service from everyone there. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Jonathan Y.

Yelp
Food; a few misses but overall was pretty good, with a wide variety. Not exactly baby friendly but staff was still very accommodating. Cocktails were fun and tasty.
google avatar

Mariah M.

Yelp
Really great service! Enjoyed the open seating area selection inside and the plentiful outdoor seating. Drinks were creative and tasty. I'm a southerner by origin, and they have hands down the best ranch dressing I've had (that's saying a lot). Went for light snacks (fries/pickle spears) and drinks, but after this experience I can't wait to return for dinner! Highly recommend. Very chill vibes!
google avatar

Nick L.

Yelp
Such a great stop for us! Probably not the typical clientele they're expecting (parents with a 7 month old) but they made us feel welcome and at home! The weather got real cold on us and our daughter needed to warm up and get changed. They sat us down on their comfy couch and got us situated real quick. Our server, Carla, made our baby girl smile so much, the GM made sure we were warm, bussers and bartenders said hi, and we had the pleasure to meet the owner who was so welcoming! The mussels were delicious. The tequila was chilled. The beer was tasty. Great setting for folks who want a great pub with a classy lounge feel!

Yelp
I went on Sunday during the Wicker Park fest, unfortunately they weren't serving their cocktails due to the fest so instead I went with a regular vodka lemonade & ordered the seafood empanadas which were delicious and full of flavor. I'm excited to come back!!
google avatar

Lily A.

Yelp
What a lovely bar! The food is delicious, I personally recommend the sticky chicken sandwich, and they have free trivia night every Wednesday with a phenomenal host. JC the bartender provided me and my friends with excellent service and was extremely attentive and friendly. The decor is beautiful and it's so cozy inside but also has high energy and spirits. The staff is full of great people. This place is awesome!

Yelp
What an incredible place ! starting with the service, friendly and attentive, to amazing cocktails, and most delicious Salmon gnocchi. The dish was so creative, executed with attention to detail, and such a joy to eat. Loved it and we'll be back!

Haley H.

Yelp
I love this place and went 2 twice in 2 weeks lol I'm not sure why it took us 6 months to try it. The service was really good. The owner was even there helping run food and checking on tables which I really appreciate and you can tell he cares about your experience. the atmosphere was really good too and the place is so nice! the library area is so cozy! the food and drinks were great too. They offer mock tails which is awesome since I dont drink and usually have to ask what non alcoholic fun drinks places offer. I got the cubano sandwich and mussels, loved! Definitely will get the Cubano again and it was huge!! The mussels were good but needed more of the sauce/juice. I will be returning!

Gorica B.

Yelp
Me and my husband went there with another couple. We were impressed with amazing see food, service, and drinks. We told our friends about this place and can't wait to go back . We live in suburbs but enjoy dining in Chicago restaurants. This one is one of my favorite places in Chicago!
google avatar

Jessica E.

Yelp
Food was amazing and very affordable! Great atmosphere and even has outdoor seating. We will be coming back for sure!

Christian B.

Yelp
Lots of potential here, I'm excited to see how well this brand new PDX-inspired gastropub improves after they've been open for a while. The food and service were good, occasionally great, but again I'm willing to cut a lot of slack since the place has literally just opened. Great cozy gastropub atmosphere and solid pacific northwest-inspired New American cuisine. Our crabcakes were slightly overseasoned/salted, and one of the three was completely unseasoned (I guess the chef forgot?) But they were still tasty and the crab tastes fresh. The salmon tartare was delicious and fresh and served on truly novel rice puffs. See for yourself, I can't describe them! The seafood bisque was creamy and full of flavor. The mac & cheese was also delicious, exactly the sort of upscale take on mac that you'd expect from a Wicker Park gastropub. Overall, this place would be 3 stars if the food and service they provided was coming from a restaurant that'd been open for, say, a few years. But considering the staff is still learning menus and layouts etc it was a 4-star experience. Definitely worth checking out if you're around the Wicker Park/Bucktown area!

Yelp
I used to walk by this place all the time and didn't think anything of it. I saw it was undergoing renovations and learned that there was new ownership taking over. Last weekend I walked by and all of the outdoor tables were full - I also saw the food on their table and it looked delicious so I figured, why not, let's go here on Friday night. We walked in around 730pm on a Friday, sat ourselves at a nice high top right by the windows. The service took a minute to bring our drinks, but our waiter ended up being pretty friendly. As I was looking over the menu, I couldn't help but notice what a diverse and exciting menu that they crafted. I could have ordered about 5-7 things. Ultimately, we settled on the Lobster Corn Dog and the Lone Owl Burger. I didn't quite know what to expect with the Lobster Corn Dog, but as soon as I saw it on the menu, I knew we had to order it. It came out relatively quickly with an awesome house sauce that was great to dip into. The fried layer around the lobster pieces was fluffy, light, and perfectly crisp. Inside, it was filled with a ton of lobster that was nicely seasoned and quite tasty. The Lone Owl Burger was also impressive, they had a nice chuck mixture that had a nice distinct taste, the bread was good, the cheese perfectly melted. It was almost as good as the Gretel burger up in Logan, which is high complement to the chef. All in all, wonderful addition to the Wicker Park neighborhood, looks like another great restaurant has moved into town.

Yelp
walked into this British pub and felt right at home. great food, wonderful staff. incredible ambiance. we played trivia and won $20 off our next meal, but when we told our waiter that we were living Chicago the next day, he arranged to have the discount applied to our current meal. how wonderful is that. if i ever return to Chicago i will definitely return. thank you from the Canadian Gootes

Alexis N.

Yelp
First time there and will go back again! Lobster corn dogs are a must! Coming back for the soups! Thanks for the great service!
