Wife and I went on Sunday for brunch. I had pork chops and catfish I got the Black eyed peas with green beans. The wife had the oxtails meatloaf greens, red beans and rice. Pork chop was season well so with the catfish catfish could have been cooked a little harder. Oxtails was real good. Meatloaf sauce was a little salty Greens were good Red beans and rice was good too.

Food was ok. I don't like feathers sticking out my meat. If they really clean it, they pick them out. Green beans - no greens around 1:30 or so, lol. I don't like burnt stuff round my mac. You can't tip employees with debit card. I'm not likely to recommend or return soon.

We gave a Birthday party yesterday and had 22 people so we worried about seating. They had a wonderful back room the Customer service was always gracious. The Jazz band and vibe was delightful. The food was excellent!! My family had a great time. Thank you for the experience.

Google
Tried this restaurant for 1st time with two friends, we were all very pleasantly surprised! It’s a large space, and every table was full with diners, there is a very lively, joyful energy in this space! Everyone on the staff from the Servers, the busboy, even the Security guy assisting with parking out in front of the restaurant I give 10 out of 10, so welcoming, big smiles, very attentive, all good! The restaurant is obviously very popular, but the wait for a table is not long. All the patrons seemed to be enjoying the good food, live music, and good vibes in this place. The Owner is on sight, mingling with the guests, and adding more positive energy! Highly recommend this spot! Try it, you’ll be glad you did!!!

Fresh, friendly and modern with a down home menu. Friendly atmosphere, friendly Host, Christopher, made you feel right at home. Young waiter and waitress were very attentive and professional. We talked to the owner about having an event there in the future. Her down home hospitality had us feeling like she was our Aunty. Definitely a place to enjoy. ALSO: Friday night Jazz, Saturday Karaoke, and Sunday Brunch.

Google
Lonell’s got it right! The food was seasoned to perfection and not overly salty. The atmosphere was relaxed, service was great! We’ve been searching for great soul food all through SoCal and finally found it! We’ll be returning

Yelp
From the moment I walked into Lonell's Soul Kitchen, I knew I was in for something special. Even though I was just picking up lunch, the staff treated me like a VIP. The host greeted me with a warm handshake and walked me personally to the counter, letting the staff know I had arrived for my order. The chef welcomed me, asked what I ordered, and assured me it would be right out. A few minutes later, the lovely waitress brought my food with the biggest, friendliest smile. She double-checked everything in the order and was so pleasant that I'm pretty sure I was blushing. Everyone--from the host to the chef to the waitress--smiled and wished me a great day as I left. Even the security guard wished me a blessed day. I walked out feeling like a King. When I opened my box, the aroma alone told me I was about to enjoy a true home-cooked meal. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, red beans and rice, and cornbread. Everything was delicious--one of the best meals I've had in this part of town. I'll definitely be back, and next time I'm bringing my girl on a Friday or Saturday so we can relax, eat, and enjoy the live music. I've officially found my new spot!

Yelp
I love that this is in the neighborhood. I had been driving to Carson to M&M's and Fixin's in DTLA is just a pain to get to so I was glad when I saw a review on Instagram this morning and had to try it for lunch. Be smart and call ahead of you're ordering to go. There was plenty of street parking and I received a "Welcome!" and a smile from a dapper gentleman as I entered the establishment. It's warmly decorated, good music and I would've sat down to eat if I wasn't on a time schedule. The server was friendly and immediately helped me with my order. The food was exactly what I wanted and a little unexpected. I ordered Turkey Chops (w/ green beans and mashed potatoes), Oxtails (w/ Red beans & Mashed potatoes), Catfish (w/ Mac & cheese and Red Beans) and a side of yams. I have not had better tasting gravy from a soul food restaurant in LA. The catfish was fried beautifully, the red beans were flavorful and Mac & cheese (I ate them with gravy on top) was chef's kiss. The yams were perfectly sweetened. I ordered the Turkey Chops and the Oxtails for my parents so can't comment on them but they look goodt. It's a place I will definitely return to.

Yelp
I'd been hearing about this place for a while and had been wanting to support the black owned soul food restaurant. The ambiance was nice inside and the service was wonderful. The food was pretty good with the greens being a bit salty and reminding me of mustards and the banana pudding was not my favorite. Overall, we wished for the price we received 3 sides like the photos showed but the food wasn't bad and the owner and managers were friendly and warm. We definitely are keeping in mind it's fairly new and hopefully it'll get better and better in the months to come.

Yelp
Nice decor. Friendly owner and staff. Security guard at the front door. (Not in the best location of LA). Staff was attentive and followed up with us often. Four of us ordered a variety of dishes to share "family style": oxtails, short ribs, catfish, chicken wings, fried shrimp with sides: greens, mac n cheese, green beans, red beans & rice, candies yams, French fries and corn bread! Everything was tasty. Drinks were good as was the music. (Difficult to have conversation when the band was playing).

Yelp
Today's order-Lunch plate- Oxtails with yams and collards and baked chicken with mac and cheese and yams. Okay, okay, okay I have to give props where props are due!!! Lonell's Soul Food Cuisine is in the building- the lunch specials were perfect. The baked chicken, tender, seasoned to perfection- no dry spots- really good- mac and cheese you cant get no better than this-- this mac and cheese is hittin'- the yams are sweetened perfectly- not overly sweet.. but perfect!! Jaylin took my order very sweet, pleasant .. provided his personal suggestions on the food!! Nice ambience, very lively with a waterfall in the corner!! The customers were feeling the vibes in the restaurant -- servers were attentive to the customers requests. Nice, relaxed atmosphere!!! Jazz on Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm-9pm My apologies the picture of the oxtail plate was blurred didn't upload it.. just picture a beautiful oxtail plate..

Yelp
Checked out Lonells on a Friday night and they did not disappoint. Some may be skeptical because its in the hood on 85th abd Vermont, hood folk know thats where the best food is. When I entered the place I noticed it was small but had a great vibe. The resturant has a private room in the back for parties, which I thought was really cool. I didn't expect that. Restrooms were clean. Ambiance was great. The staff was friendly and accommodating. There was a 3pc band that night that played some of the best music. The FOOD was jamming. The yams, macn cheese and greens were delicious. I had fried Turkey chops which were Amazing fried well and the flavor was there. My husband order the shrimp basket and opted to order another one because the shrimp was that good. Definitely will encourage people to patronize this restaurant.

Yelp
Yesterday's experience at Lonell's was wonderful from the service to the food. Myself and my 2 Sisters enjoyed everything, and felt like we were at home because of the warm welcoming service we had. The food was delicious, I had the Turkey chops, greens, mac and cheese, rice and gravy, and a slice of pound cake to go and peach cobbler to go when I say everything was on point I mean everything. So I definitely will be returning to this establishment . Thank you for a wonderful experience !

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place! Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. After a long wait to be served, the staff seemed dismissive and uninterested in helping. No one checked in during the wait, and when i asked politely, seemed to be met with resistance and forced assistance. Customer service really matters, and sadly, it was lacking here. I hope the management takes steps to improve. AND reserves a dedicated hostess... After 15 minutes, had a lovely woman finally take my order. Had a catfish basket with fries. Fries were hot and tasty, catfish was moderate with a nice cornmeal batter. Ummm, guess I didn't need a fork so, I used my fingers! Great company around me and some live music. I'll give it a 2 out of 5 stars. It is a lovely spot!

Yelp
I ordered the fried pork chop, black-eyed peas and rice, and mac & cheese, and let me tell you -- this plate tasted like Sunday dinner at home. The vibe inside is welcoming. You're greeted like family -- not rushed, not brushed off. You can tell this is a place that wants you to sit down, take your time, and enjoy your meal.

Yelp
Lonell's Soul Food Cuisine is A Hidden Gem in Our Own Backyard! If comfort food had a home, it would definitely be Lonell's Soul Food Cuisine! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm, welcoming staff, and full of flavor literally and spiritually. It felt like dining at your favorite cousin's house who just happens to be a five-star chef! We ordered catfish, greens, yams, mac and cheese, and mashed potato's and let me tell you, every bite hit like a Sunday hug from Grandma. The catfish was perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The greens had that slow-cooked, smoky love flavor, and the yams? Whew. Sweet, buttery perfection. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy just the way it should be; not the boxed kind, but the real baked goodness. And then came the pound cake... moist, rich, and gone in seconds. We tried to share, but let's be real, that didn't last long. The cherry on top? They have karaoke every Saturday night at 7:00 PM! The energy was everything! We were laughing, singing, and cheering each other on. It's the perfect spot to eat good, vibe good, and support a neighborhood gem. If you haven't been to Lonell's yet, stop what you're doing and go. Bring your appetite, your friends, and maybe your best singing voice. #SoulFoodDoneRight #NeighborhoodVibes #LonellsGotTheFlavor

Yelp
What went well...Let me tell youuuu, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING! The food, the service, the cocktails, the atmosphere, the live music!!! Absolutely everything went well! Lonell's even has fresh flowers on each table. Lovely place for friends, family, out-of-towners.. You must stop in and experience it for yourself. This is a true gem!

Yelp
Left church in Pasadena .....ready for some soul food brunch....driver dropped me off ....security at the front door says "We closed early for a private party" whaaaaaaaaat!?!?!?

Yelp
Let me start with the amazing customer service! Our waitress, Holly, was so sweet, kind, and professional (and she had the most beautiful skin). My husband and I went after church. When we first arrived, it wasn't too busy, but within 30 minutes the place was packed. The music was going, the vibe was cool, and the energy felt great. Now, let's talk about the food. I ordered the oxtails with collard greens and macaroni & cheese. My husband had the fried chicken with red beans & rice and yams. Everything was on point! My husband didn't really care for the red beans & rice he's a picky eater so we swapped: he took my mac & cheese, and I took his beans & rice (which I thought were good). The food was seasoned very well, my oxtails were tender, and the whole experience was enjoyable. I also ordered the hot water cornbread, but it was hard around the edges so I didn't eat it. I mentioned it to the general manager, Miss Q, and she immediately took care of it. Her professionalism and customer service were a perfect 10! The ambience was nice, and I could see this being a cute first-date spot. They even have an extra room in the back that would be perfect for meetings party or church gatherings. Everyone was friendly, the prices weren't bad, and I really think if they keep up this level of food and service, this place is going to be on the map. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
What a beautiful venue in the heart of South Los Angeles! The food was yummy with generous portions. The live entertainment was enjoyable and engaging! Lonell was on-site greeting his guests, obliging picture requests and we felt so welcomed. The staff were friendly. I recommend this location to a person looking to enjoy fresh quality soul food in an inviting environment. This was a great way to kick off my husband's birthday weekend! We will return.

Yelp
Had feathers on the chicken wings gross and my neighbor had meat loaf on another day and it was soggy

Yelp
The food was excellent; I had the oxtails, collard greens, and red beans and rice. The service was great, Lonell and his staff made sure our needs were being taken care of. The atmosphere was warm and friendly.

Yelp
Always want to support a black owned business first. My husband had catfish, Mac and yam. I had fried chicken (white), collards and red beans and rice. We asked for hot water cornbread, but our waitress said they didn't have any today, more on this later. My family had take out and said, I would love it because everything is salty, so I was actually looking forward to a little seasoning. Funny thing, the seasoning is selective. And even for me, it was too salty. The chicken and fish batter could have used some of the extra salt they put in the bollards and red beans. First, the Mac & Cheese was immediately returned to the kitchen. The flavor was off and the cheese wasn't fully melted, like it wasn't even baked. I tasted my husband's yam, sweet like candy - Yes, YAM not yamS, because it was one chunk of yam in a bowl of sweet juice - and he tasted my collards. So, he got collards in exchange for the Mac and I ordered my own yam chunk. The red beans were not cooked all the way and crunchy. After a while, another waitress checked in and we explained how we were looking forward to the hot water cornbread and disappointed they didn't have any. She said they did and put in an order. We should have stuck to the first answer. The hot water cornbread was the blandest, seasonless, and greasiest hot water cornbread I've ever had. It was dropped, not turned or fried on both sides, thin and all you tasted was the oil. Whatever oil they fried it in, was not it. After complaining, my husband saw one of the guys adding something to the batter in the bar area. Now I don't know what seasoning they had behind the bar, but the hot water cornbread was nasty. Why an entire paragraph, because the is no other word, or nice way to put it. It was nasty. Pros: The staff was friendly and fairly attentive, just enough for my liking. I enjoyed the softness and flavor of the cornbread muffins. The Muddy Water stole the show. Very tasty and not too sweet. I can say we went, and check it off on the list. It will not be in my Soul food list, and unfortunately I wouldn't refer anyone here. But, they were packed so best of luck.

Lynay T.

Yelp
I enjoy the pork chop lunch with the mac and cheese and the black eye beans and rice on point and the gravy and rice and oxtails was nicely smoked... I was very surprised with the what we ordered on November 4 ,2025 .

Yelp
I enjoyed everything on my plate ... The Yams are the BOMB!!!! I went on Sunday and they had a LIVE RnB band that made the experience even better! Chef Lonell knows what he is doing and I suggest supporting this Black Owned Restaurant cooking with Love and Flavor!

Yelp
I have ti say the good was good but took along time to get. When we got seated I had to ask for water 20 min after sitting down with my family on Sunday brunch. When they brought the orders out they didn't have the correct orders and slightly came out warm. They ran out of catfish, and took along time to get my bill when I did , I had to ask for senior discount which states on menu all seniors get the discount. The person looked upset when I ask for it.

Joann J.

Yelp
I made a reservation for a large group on Sunday. we arrived on time, but they weren't ready for us, so the group was seated at separate tables. We all placed orders at the same time but, our orders came at different times plus our wait for everything was 2 hours, with our cornbread coming when we got ready to leave. our meat orders were great, but the sides were over-salted ( couldn't eat them). Our waitress was very nice and tried to accommodate us, even gave us free dessert. I'm making this review because I want "Lonell"s to do better. I've eaten here before and everything was perfect, maybe they shouldn't take reservation for groups over 6. While we waited a number of other guests left because the wait was too long. I will eat there again, but maybe not with a large group on Sunday

Yelp
Lonell's is LA's new addition to the culture. Conveniently situations at the corner of Manchester and Vermont, they offer abundant parking in front and on the side. They have even established a working relationship with the bank next door for additional parking. The atmosphere offers a perfect combination of soul, class and contemporary vibes wrapped in cleanliness and the right amount of hospitality. Simply put...inviting to people from all walks of life. This is my second visit and I must say, it's even better today. Today we came in for fish, but shared the short ribs and indulged in almost all of sides that were repass certified. The chef and one of the owners walked around continuously checking on guests and even cleaning tables as soon as other guests would leave. We were served by Jaylen today who is fairly new on the scene but far from new to making customers feel like their table is the most important in the restaurant. It was refreshing to hear one of the owners, Dwaine Jackson and Lonell greet and say goodbye to customers by name. They offer live jazz on Friday nights and open mic on Saturdays. By far, one of the best experiences I've had here in LA at a black owned and operated establishment. Family vibes on a celestial level.

Yelp
Had the Sunday brunch and it was great. I would recommend the chicken wings, cat fish, or turkey chop for proteins and green beans, greens, and yams for sides. The muddy water is delicious.

Yelp
Great place to dine after church services or anytime (except Monday..closed) come with a appetite the portions are hearty food is good home made cuisine. The atmosphere is very pleasant and very comfortable and relaxing place to dine.

Beverly N.

Yelp
Service was outstanding! The ambiance was good. But the food has to improve. I had turkey chops, Mac and cheese, and greens. None of these items tasted fresh. The corn muffin was good. Also, finding street parking within walking distance of the restaurant is slim.
google avatar

Yelp
Live music! Delicious turkey chops. The yams and mashed potatoes are seasoned perfectly and made from scratch.
google avatar

Yelp
Omg!!! Another beautiful, professional & wonderful restaurant in our community. You know it's special when the owner comes to introduce himself at your table. The ambiance, staff, and prices are great! They will have live jazz on Fridays feo

Yelp
The customer service was wonderful!! Very greeting and it was genuine. The young lady we started off with was Wonderful but I don't why we were changed to someone else but he was good. Mecca took our order said it should be out within 15mins but it was pretty busy so I didn't expect it but when one of the managers or owner saw we hadn't got our food he(bald gentleman) went and said something and our food was out in the next 2 to 3mins. Attentive!! Luv it!! Now the food was good they can give Dulan's a run for their money! You get 2 proteins - I requested friend chicken wings and beef short ribs greens yams and Mac & cheese, then you get a dessert- I chose peach cobbler(but haven't eaten yet) they have a drink called Muddy Water OMG!!!(non alcoholic) They had a DJ playing there perfect music Jazz. I will definitely go back again

Yelp
Great first impression. Security guard saw me park and held the door open for me. Very courteous. Take out was not delicious. I arrived at 4:00 pm and was promptly informed I would be having dinner, not lunch. Gentleman working the Front of the house was less than warm and welcoming especially as he was on his phone. I placed an order for fried chicken dinner comes with 3 sides. I asked legs and wings. I was told there were no wings but all legs would be fine. I received two legs and a breast. The macaroni and cheese was not appetizing nor tasty. It appears to be the last of a pan left to dry out. The red beans and rice was the best part of the meal. I enjoyed them. The sweet potato's were okay but looked soupy. I ordered collared greens as an additional side. They were okay. I was so disappointed as I have been looking forward to trying this location. My church members and coworkers have posted on social media about this spot. I will not make any additional posts.

Yelp
Visited Lonell's Soul Food spot and I'm tired of giving people time to get it right. My suggestion is, don't open until you are A1. Had 6pm reservations walked in at 5:45pm and stood there. No one to greet us and every table was taken. Sooooo, where is my table..NO WHERE! Welp, we sat at the bar.. and THEE BAR is just the picture of Costco bottles.. needless to say that they had limited drinks. The food was meh.. I asked if Glory did the greens and Mac n cheese was gone, (probably a good thing). I opted for beans (canned) and rice. Now the meat was seasoned and tender. (YAY). The lemon cake (Costco) was cut specifically for an ant to eat!!! (Left it right there.) The pudding in the banana pudding is from a can. The live music was good but it could be heard at Sofi. So forget about having a conversation with who you came with, my ears were ringing when I left. All in all, it's a no fah'me dawg!

Krystal T.

Yelp
The food was fire, I don't eat everyone black eyed peas with rice! Nor oxtails! If I tell you it's a must! It's a must! the service was good, friendly and hospitality was good! The ambiance was cozy, I said I'll be back and tell others to try it out! The portions of the food is amazing, I was able to have dinner and remind you this was lunch meals. I can imagine what the dinner looks like I couldn't get a picture of my sister nor my niece food! They was already eating they had pork chops, black eyed peas, yams, mac & cheese
google avatar

Osia S.

Yelp
I am glad you're restaurant is full and your employees are working. This is the second time I visited your establishment once in person and the other was phone order. Both times the black eyes peas were burnt and this time old and overcooked. The cornbread was stale and old. The meatloaf had way too much filler. Hardly any meat. If you care about longevity and reputation, fix these issues as expeditiously as possible or I'm afraid that one day you won't be there to care. I also called to order the food and they asked me to call back in 5 minutes. The volume of the music was so loud to take my order I had to keep repeating myself. Not asking you to be perfect just better not below average.
google avatar

Keisha J.

Yelp
Sunday brunch is great. The oxtails and smoothed pork chop is very tasty! The owner is very cool!
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Attentive staff, exceptional food and a pleasant atmosphere combine to make Lonell's a great new dining destination. The Sunday Brunch has free flowing champagne and generous portions. I think you'll agree with me - Lonell's is a a great find!

Yelp
THE BEST C.O.N.C.E.R.T FOOD EVER!!! Comfort, Outstanding, Nourishment, Caring, Elegant,Rich, Toe curling, Baby, listen the amount of service great customer service at that that you receive at this place is amazing. I have not been to a soul food establishment in a long time that had such a southern feel to it. The owner himself came out and greeted us as we ate. We had an amazing waiter by the name of JAYLEN. He was kind and he was very patient And very sweet. So from the front to the back all around amazing service great cook great host great place great great people just in all around greatness so if you were looking for a place to go any day, including Sunday, this is the place you want to go and bring all your friends your cousins and them

Dee B.

Yelp
Wow, what a fantastic experience! The food was absolutely incredible, and the service was just as amazing! Even though I ordered to go, both waitresses radiated friendliness and were super eager to take my order, which set the perfect tone for the meal. I decided on the catfish dinner and the turkey chop dinner, loaded with sides of greens, yams, and macaroni--and let me tell you, the food is nothing short of extraordinary! The yams are like a taste of Thanksgiving at Grandma's house--not overly stringy but perfectly sweet and absolutely delightful. The greens are bursting with savory flavor, and the macaroni and cheese? Pure comfort food heaven! The portions were enormous; we actually took two days to finish both dinners! It's so exciting to discover great soul food in the inner city--finally, something new and delicious! I'm officially a fan and can't wait to visit again and again!

Yelp
This has been on my list to try since they open in May. Finally got there today my order was turkey chops, greens, Mac& cheese, hot water cornbread and the muddy water drink....the turkey chops were flavorful but on the dry side....the greens were ok.....mac & cheese was delicious....hot water cornbread was a salt bomb and fried to long.....the muddy water was ok.....I will go back to try something different I was told the meatloaf is good I shall see.....the price is good....im glad it's in walking distance....it was clean inside....the wait staff was friendly and my food came out timely nice and hot.
