We were referred to this by a friend and we were not disappointed. everything was excellent, good tasting food and huge portions, the service was professional polite and efficient the owner came to our table to introduce him self and welcome us to his establishment, it's clean and comfortable we were able to park within half a block of the restaurant you need to give it a try. bona petite

Food was fantastic, server was attentive, and atmosphere was lively. On holidays it can get a bit packed but food was well worth the wait. Room in back of restaurant for bigger groups/ events if you call to reserve in advance. Plenty of street/ metered parking. This spot's flavor goes toe to toe with any soul food spot in LA

Great restaurant, good food, and a wonderful addition to the community. Private meeting room was perfect for our L.A. South Chamber of Commerce meet-up. Definitely check them out.

The restaurant was clean an beautifully decorated. There We're fresh flowers on the tables. They were beautiful, the the waitress. Was polite respectful, Add patient with all our orders and there were 12 of us. I am very picky About my food and I was Very happy. The ambiance, the food... 5 star

In the area for car maintenance, stumbled upon this hidden GEM. 💎 Right off the main interaction of S Vermont and W Manchester Ave. Great service and ambience. Clean and ready for go! Self seat and dive right into the menu! *being from the south I had expectations* Fried cat fish was DELICIOUS BASICALLY MELTED IN YOUR MOUTH. I COULD DRINK THE COLLARD GREENS (they do use turkey instead of pork which was new for me) but NOT DISAPPOINTED would still drink it from the pot. Red Beans and rice, sorry Popeyes you’re not touching this 🫡 THE LEMONADE YALL. They have house lemonade in one of the drink dispensers, NO ICE sitting in dispersers SO IT DOESN'T GET WATERED DOWN. 👏🏽 Y’all might not even know this hack 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ THEY DID. 10000000/10

FOOD: Excellent & delicious! SERVICE: Servers were very nice and attentive. Catered to all our needs. AMBIANCE: Dined in their private/ banquet room; very classy. Overall, the restaurant was very, very clean with the smell of delicious food filling the atmosphere! Definitely will return! Sunday brunch is kicking!

I went here for my first time on Juneteenth and the food was amazing I got the baked chicken dinner and mashed potatoes with gravy, Mac n cheese and yams the yams was very sweet and tasteful the Mac n cheese was seasoned very good. The service was amazing they were very polite and well mannered it made feel like I was at home they offered drinks while wait and made sure I was very well taken care of . The ambiance of the place was very welcoming everyone was nice and friendly.

Today's order-Lunch plate- Oxtails with yams and collards and baked chicken with mac and cheese and yams. Okay, okay, okay I have to give props where props are due!!! Lonell's Soul Food Cuisine is in the building- the lunch specials were perfect. The baked chicken, tender, seasoned to perfection- no dry spots- really good- mac and cheese you cant get no better than this-- this mac and cheese is hittin'- the yams are sweetened perfectly- not overly sweet.. but perfect!! Jaylin took my order very sweet, pleasant .. provided his personal suggestions on the food!! Nice ambience, very lively with a waterfall in the corner!! The customers were feeling the vibes in the restaurant -- servers were attentive to the customers requests. Nice, relaxed atmosphere!!! Jazz on Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm-9pm My apologies the picture of the oxtail plate was blurred didn't upload it.. just picture a beautiful oxtail plate..

What went well...Let me tell youuuu, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING! The food, the service, the cocktails, the atmosphere, the live music!!! Absolutely everything went well! Lonell's even has fresh flowers on each table. Lovely place for friends, family, out-of-towners.. You must stop in and experience it for yourself. This is a true gem!

What a beautiful venue in the heart of South Los Angeles! The food was yummy with generous portions. The live entertainment was enjoyable and engaging! Lonell was on-site greeting his guests, obliging picture requests and we felt so welcomed. The staff were friendly. I recommend this location to a person looking to enjoy fresh quality soul food in an inviting environment. This was a great way to kick off my husband's birthday weekend! We will return.

The place was spotless the food well seasoned I especially loved the mashed potatoes and peach cobbler.

Had the Sunday brunch and it was great. I would recommend the chicken wings, cat fish, or turkey chop for proteins and green beans, greens, and yams for sides. The muddy water is delicious.

Great first impression. Security guard saw me park and held the door open for me. Very courteous. Take out was not delicious. I arrived at 4:00 pm and was promptly informed I would be having dinner, not lunch. Gentleman working the Front of the house was less than warm and welcoming especially as he was on his phone. I placed an order for fried chicken dinner comes with 3 sides. I asked legs and wings. I was told there were no wings but all legs would be fine. I received two legs and a breast. The macaroni and cheese was not appetizing nor tasty. It appears to be the last of a pan left to dry out. The red beans and rice was the best part of the meal. I enjoyed them. The sweet potato's were okay but looked soupy. I ordered collared greens as an additional side. They were okay. I was so disappointed as I have been looking forward to trying this location. My church members and coworkers have posted on social media about this spot. I will not make any additional posts.

The customer service was wonderful!! Very greeting and it was genuine. The young lady we started off with was Wonderful but I don't why we were changed to someone else but he was good. Mecca took our order said it should be out within 15mins but it was pretty busy so I didn't expect it but when one of the managers or owner saw we hadn't got our food he(bald gentleman) went and said something and our food was out in the next 2 to 3mins. Attentive!! Luv it!! Now the food was good they can give Dulan's a run for their money! You get 2 proteins - I requested friend chicken wings and beef short ribs greens yams and Mac & cheese, then you get a dessert- I chose peach cobbler(but haven't eaten yet) they have a drink called Muddy Water OMG!!!(non alcoholic) They had a DJ playing there perfect music Jazz. I will definitely go back again

Lonells Soul Food Cuisine is a great restaurant to enjoy great food, great atmosphere and great drinks. The amazing ambiance adds a special touch to the dining experience. I have been a regular guest there for the following: lunch, dinner, Friday & Saturday Jazz Nite and Sunday Brunch. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone with would like to enjoy food made with Love and SOUL!!!

YUCK! Why would you disrespect soul food like this?!!!. Canned, canned and more cans. Beans floating in water, yams are packed in sugar and canned and the cornbread needs help. Out of control expensive and down right a joke. The place is clean but parking is bad. Location, food quality and parking are all thumbs down. Start over and do this right please. Go back south and do more research because this is not acceptable.

It was a pleasure meeting Lonell today. The hospitality and customer service was excellent. The food was very good with good portions and well seasoned. Turkey chops were on point for my 1st time!!! I'll definitely come back and recommend this business establishment to others.

Wow, what a fantastic experience! The food was absolutely incredible, and the service was just as amazing! Even though I ordered to go, both waitresses radiated friendliness and were super eager to take my order, which set the perfect tone for the meal. I decided on the catfish dinner and the turkey chop dinner, loaded with sides of greens, yams, and macaroni--and let me tell you, the food is nothing short of extraordinary! The yams are like a taste of Thanksgiving at Grandma's house--not overly stringy but perfectly sweet and absolutely delightful. The greens are bursting with savory flavor, and the macaroni and cheese? Pure comfort food heaven! The portions were enormous; we actually took two days to finish both dinners! It's so exciting to discover great soul food in the inner city--finally, something new and delicious! I'm officially a fan and can't wait to visit again and again!

Excellent food and service! We had oxtails, rice, catfish, shrimp & grits, friend chicken, eggs, red beans, corn bread, machine & cheese, peach cobbler, pound cake....it was all delicious! The servers were friendly and attentive. The proprietors continuously checked on customers. The restaurant is fresh & clean! Great experience.

I ordered the oxtails with greens mac and cheese and red beans and rice. Everything was delish and very flavorful..I can't wait to go back

Well this is my first time eating here not enough gravy on the meat and speaking of the meat I purchased short ribs and oh boy the meat was over cooked and greens horrible he was a nice man the owner I met out of 5 stars he gets a 2 I say try again and get back in the kitchen not enough experience I should have just went to Dulin's my bad

Lonell has always been a master chef and so happy he has now gone from a successful catering business to having his own restaurant! You definitely will not be disappointed the food is made intentionally with love.

LONELL!!!! Yes, I am shouting because that food was amazing. The short ribs were so tender and flavorful, the oxtails fell off the bone. The catfish was seasoned perfectly and the Mac n cheese, Yams and Greens beans were seasoned and yummy. Now... that Peach cobbler... goodness! I have no words. Simply delectable. I loved the chill ambiance and service was good. They rotate and continued to check on us to see if we needed anything. We will be back.

Love the jazz bands on Fridays and Saturdays. The fried catfish was amazing! The servers are friendly and the environment is relaxing. I'm looking forward to Gospel Sunday Brunch!!

First time here...awesome food, great service, and gracious owner! Definitely going back.

This was my first time coming to this place. Unfortunately I will not be returning. I came on a Sunday which was $50 per person. I had mac&cheese,rice & gravy,pork chops,oxtails and banana pudding. When my food came out the rice and gravy was cold. The server did bring another one that was hot. My oxtails were warm to the point it was almost cold my fried pork chop looked baked I asked the server if it was baked or fried, I was told it was fried. I pointed to the turkey chops they had which was fried an crunchy with crust as if they put flour on it and fried. I stated this is how I want my pork chop to look. The server looked confused not sure why, a random man said to him she wants it crispy with crust. The server then took my pork chop back to the cook to fix the mistake. The same pork chop came out no crust but burnt. All they did was throw the flourless pork chop back in the grease and overcooked it. When I tasted the burnt chop it didn't even have a hint of pepper let alone seasoning. I packed my food to go and left the nasty burnt chop there. When the server brought my banana pudding out I was out done it looked as if it was prepared separately, like the pudding was made separately the cookies wasn't layered between the pudding an set over night so the cookies could get soft. They put cookies in the container and the pudding was placed on top of the cookies. I'm upset I didn't have the picture of the pork chop. Last thing The server never brought us condiments but everyone else had some at their tables. The server did say they took off $10 my tab was $115 plus I left a $25 tip. I hope my review doesn't get taken down because I paid my tab to able to give my honest opinion review.

The food was not up to my soul food standards, the service was very slow but I do understand but it not acceptable when people wait and worker walk pass you and you have to ask for service 2 people after me ask me after standing do they sit or stand smh, ambiance nice waiter nice apology for not having items on the menu, (Mac and cheese , dressing,)I did not care for any of the food I got, can sweet potatoes, thick mashed potatoes instant, blackeye peas scorched muffin smh. I read reviews I'm not sure if I went to the same place. I apologize but this is my truth.

This place was recommended by my partner's co-worker and ii looked at the reviews and was so excited to try. We ordered Oxtails with rice gravy greens mac'n cheese yams. The oxtails were overcooked dried out and not seasoned well and the mac 'n cheese was straight up burnt like they scraped the last in the pan after it sat out all day. The rice needed to be cooked longer it was grainy and the yams were runny.. We took a few bites and trashed the entire dinner.. $28 a pop for each dinner it should be great eating. I will never ever eat at this place again. The 5 stars must have been made by customers who ate in.. TAKE OUT GETS SCREWED - DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I ate at Lonell's for the first time. Food is amazing, service is outstanding, prices are more than fair for the amount of food they give. The restaurant is very nice and clean. I had the fried pork chops, yams, Mac n cheese, greens, and for dessert the butter pound cake. All I can say is delicious. If you want some delicious down home soul food all roads lead to Lonell's soul food at 8501 S Vermont in Los Angeles.
